Groundbreaking Disney Junior Series ‘Doc McStuffins’ Celebrates 10th Anniversary

Disney Branded Television is adding new titles to a growing slate of premium original programming for kids, tweens, teens and families across Disney+ and Disney Channels. Disney Branded Television President Ayo Davis announced these projects along with some key casting news today during the Television Critics Association’s Winter Press Tour, where she welcomed the press and delivered an overview of the brand’s legacy, values and content pipeline.

The titles that were announced today across the live-action, unscripted and animated space underscore Disney Branded Television’s commitment to serving audiences with exceptional, imaginative and aspirational stories from fresh, diverse voices and talent.

Davis also announced that GRAMMY® and Tony Award® winner Daveed Diggs will narrate the “The Crossover” series. Announced earlier today, Tony and Academy Award® winner Catherine Zeta-Jones joins the cast of the “National Treasure” series, and Michelle Yeoh stars alongside an international cast in the upcoming series “American Born Chinese.”

Davis said: “With each one of these projects, we see an opportunity to build upon the strong foundation of storytelling that is a hallmark of the Disney brand. I am so proud to be working with some of the most creative and diverse talent in the industry, both in front of and behind the camera, to bring these fresh, inventive and impactful stories — new and reimagined — to life for our audiences to enjoy, regardless of platform.”

Additionally, during today’s presentation, Davis announced a milestone as Disney Junior’s groundbreaking animated series “Doc McStuffins” will turn 10 this year. Since it premiered in March 2012, the Peabody Award-winning series — the first animated series for preschoolers to feature a Black female lead — has helped open the door for other representation breakthroughs in media and even inspired some entries to the medical field. To celebrate the anniversary, a new animated music special inspired by the pioneering series is in the works for a debut later this year, and Disney Junior will air episodes daily throughout the month of March, including a marathon on Wednesday, March 23, the anniversary of its premiere. In addition, Disney Junior will unveil a new 10th anniversary Doc McStuffins doll from its licensee Just Play, and Walt Disney Records will debut a new digital single, “The Doc is 10,” performed by Laya DeLeon Hayes on Friday, March 18.

New greenlights announced today:

However, Mandy keeps her eyes focused on a different goal: her lifelong dream of attending Harvard. The determined ensemble includes Dulce, Andy’s best friend and archery expert; North Pole conspiracy theorist Lewis; daredevil “wheel woman” Ha-Yoon; animal whisperer Rose; master-of-disguise Jon Anthony; adorable charmer Albert; and Andy’s older sister, Laurel, a talented gymnast seeking to regain her confidence. Andy also enlists the help of Bruno, a disgruntled cargo pilot who claims to have witnessed Santa’s sleigh. However, in the process of finding their gifts, the gang begins to realize that Christmas is more about giving than taking. “The Naughty Nine” stars Winslow Fegley, Camila Rodriguez, Anthony Joo, Clara Stack, Imogen Cohen, Madilyn Kellam and Deric McCabe.

“TINY TRAILBLAZERS” (Disney Junior Original Series)
Produced by Hello Sunshine in Association With Disney Junior
Executive Producers: Reese Witherspoon, Claire Curley

Partners from National Geographic are consulting on the project. Academy Award-winning actress Reese Witherspoon (“Little Fires Everywhere,” “The Morning Show,” “Walk the Line”) serves as executive producer and will voice one of the mom characters, Fern, a wildlife specialist. The main characters are two girls, an adventurous city kid named Tilly and the more risk-averse Birdie, who befriends her when Tilly’s family moves to a campground while her scientist mom is doing field research on forest streams. As the girls observe their mother’s careers and interests and begin to explore and discover the magic of nature all around them, they develop a supportive friendship and a deep understanding of and appreciation for the natural world. The series also highlights age-appropriate social and emotional lessons about thoughtfulness, self-esteem, good instincts and trying new things.

Farley Drexel Hatcher, his 3-year-old brother, aka Fudge. Fudge isn’t just a problem; he is a tornado, a tsunami, a superstorm, an arctic bomb of chaos and destruction. And when Fudge runs away under Peter’s watch, an epic family adventure across NYC ensues. One that ultimately brings these two together just as their world is turned upside down by the arrival of a brand-new problem — an infant baby sister — reminding us all that nothing is ever constant … except change.

Under Wraps: Lead Sheet & Fact Sheet

Under Wraps: Lead Sheet
Malachi Barton (“Stuck in the Middle”), Christian J. Simon (“Sydney to the Max”), Sophia Hammons (“The Social Dilemma”) and Phil Wright (“Disney Fam Jam”) star in the contemporary comedic remake of the 1997 Halloween classic “Under Wraps.” Made for kids ages 6-14 and their families, “Under Wraps” was the first-ever Disney Channel Original Movie, launching a blockbuster franchise that now holds a library of more than 100 titles.

The reimagined story unfolds when three 12-year-old friends, Marshall (Barton), Gilbert (Simon), and Amy (Hammons), sneak into their mysterious neighbor Kubot’s spooky basement. There, they stumble upon an Egyptian mummy (Wright) and accidentally expose the amulet around his neck to moonlight, unexpectedly bringing him to life. When the kids come face-to-face with the live 4,000-year-old mummy, they’re surprised to learn that he is kind and gentle. They befriend him, all agreeing that he will come with them and hide out in Marshall’s room until they devise a plan. Marshall immediately forms a bond with the mummy and learns that he enjoys hot sauce just like his Grandpa Harold, and with that similarity, decides to name the mummy after him.

When the kids pay a visit to Buzzy, the manager of Ernie’s Eerie Emporium store, they discover that Harold’s amulet gives him a three-day pass back into the world of the living, with the catch that he must return to his resting place before midnight on Halloween. Meanwhile, Kubot, who deals in stolen antiquities, is out to find his missing Egyptian mummy and grows more and more suspicious of the neighborhood kids. He catches up to them at their middle school’s annual Halloween Carnival. Things go awry when Kubot barges in, spots Harold on the dance floor and captures the mummy. With Buzzy’s help, Marshall, Gilbert and Amy inconspicuously follow Kubot to an abandoned ice cream factory where they must face off with Kubot and his fellow criminals and rescue their new—but rather “ancient”—friend.

Filmed on location in Vancouver, Canada, “Under Wraps” taps into warm color palettes and earth tones to reinforce the Halloween season. The IW Group consulted on the film.

Also starring in “Under Wraps” *is Melanie Brook (“Buzzy”), Brent Stait (“Kubot”), Jordana Largy (“Diane”), Jaime M. Callica (“Ted”) and Karin Konoval (“Ravensworth”). Produced by MarVista Entertainment, “Under Wraps” is directed by Alex Zamm (“Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2”) and executive produced by Todd Y. Murata (“Sightless,”) and Fernando Szew (“16 Wishes”). Based on the original movie written by Don Rhymer, the writing team for the remake is William Robertson (“Inspector Gadget 2”) and Zamm.

DISNEY CHANNEL SET FOR A CONTEMPORARY COMEDIC REMAKE OF THE FIRST-EVER DISNEY CHANNEL ORIGINAL MOVIE, ‘UNDER WRAPS’

A talented cast is set for the contemporary comedic remake of the 1997 Halloween classic “Under Wraps,” which will begin production in Vancouver this month. “Under Wraps” was the first-ever Disney Channel Original Movie, a blockbuster franchise with more than 100 titles. The re-imagined story follows three 12-year-old friends, Gilbert, Marshall and Amy, as they accidentally revive a mummy they discover in a neighbor’s basement a few days before Halloween. Daytime Emmy® Award nominee Christian J. Simon (“Sydney to the Max”), Malachi Barton (“Stuck in the Middle”), Sophia Hammons (“The Social Dilemma”) and Phil Wright (“Disney Fam Jam”) are set to star in the comedy. “Under Wraps” is slated for a 2021 premiere on Disney Channel.

The story unfolds when Gilbert (Simon), Marshall (Barton) and Amy (Hammons) happen upon and awaken a mummy, which they affectionately name Harold (Wright), and must rush to return him to his resting place before midnight on Halloween. Along the way, the team narrowly escapes a nefarious group of criminals intent on selling the mummy to the highest bidder. When Harold is inevitably captured, Marshall, Gilbert and Amy must band together to stand up to the criminals, face their fears and rescue their new—but rather “ancient”—friend.

Lauren Kisilevsky, vice president, Original Movies, Disney Channel, said, “‘Under Wraps’ introduced a generation of kids and families to what has become the backbone of our programming across the globe: Disney Channel Original Movies. We are excited to welcome our audience back into the Halloween spirit and celebrate the unlikely friendship between three kids and a mummy as they embark on an adventure and ultimately save the day.”

Produced by MarVista Entertainment, “Under Wraps” is directed by Alex Zamm (R.L. Stine’s “The Haunting Hour: Don’t Think About It,” “Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2”) with Todd Y. Murata (“Sightless,” “Best. Worst. Weekend. Ever.”) and Fernando Szew (“Back of the Net,” “16 Wishes”) as executive producers for MarVista Entertainment. Based on the original movie written by Don Rhymer, the writing team of the remake is Zamm and William Robertson (“Inspector Gadget 2,” “Woody Woodpecker”).
