Groundbreaking Disney Junior Series ‘Doc McStuffins’ Celebrates 10th Anniversary

Disney Branded Television is adding new titles to a growing slate of premium original programming for kids, tweens, teens and families across Disney+ and Disney Channels. Disney Branded Television President Ayo Davis announced these projects along with some key casting news today during the Television Critics Association’s Winter Press Tour, where she welcomed the press and delivered an overview of the brand’s legacy, values and content pipeline.

The titles that were announced today across the live-action, unscripted and animated space underscore Disney Branded Television’s commitment to serving audiences with exceptional, imaginative and aspirational stories from fresh, diverse voices and talent.

Davis also announced that GRAMMY® and Tony Award® winner Daveed Diggs will narrate the “The Crossover” series. Announced earlier today, Tony and Academy Award® winner Catherine Zeta-Jones joins the cast of the “National Treasure” series, and Michelle Yeoh stars alongside an international cast in the upcoming series “American Born Chinese.”

Davis said: “With each one of these projects, we see an opportunity to build upon the strong foundation of storytelling that is a hallmark of the Disney brand. I am so proud to be working with some of the most creative and diverse talent in the industry, both in front of and behind the camera, to bring these fresh, inventive and impactful stories — new and reimagined — to life for our audiences to enjoy, regardless of platform.”

Additionally, during today’s presentation, Davis announced a milestone as Disney Junior’s groundbreaking animated series “Doc McStuffins” will turn 10 this year. Since it premiered in March 2012, the Peabody Award-winning series — the first animated series for preschoolers to feature a Black female lead — has helped open the door for other representation breakthroughs in media and even inspired some entries to the medical field. To celebrate the anniversary, a new animated music special inspired by the pioneering series is in the works for a debut later this year, and Disney Junior will air episodes daily throughout the month of March, including a marathon on Wednesday, March 23, the anniversary of its premiere. In addition, Disney Junior will unveil a new 10th anniversary Doc McStuffins doll from its licensee Just Play, and Walt Disney Records will debut a new digital single, “The Doc is 10,” performed by Laya DeLeon Hayes on Friday, March 18.

Disney Channel has picked up a second season of its time-travel mystery series, “Secrets of Sulphur Springs.” Since its Jan. 15 premiere, the series has reached 8.4 million total viewers, ranked as the #1 series across all television with Girls 6-11, and the #1 live-action series on DisneyNow. The announcement was made today by Reena Singh, senior vice president, Development and Current Series, Disney Branded Television. Production on season two will begin in June.

“Our brilliant executive producers, Tracey Thomson and Charles Pratt Jr., along with a supremely talented cast and crew, have truly created a captivating series that keeps our viewers guessing,” Singh said. “Now that the disappearance of Savannah has been solved, we look forward to a season of all-new puzzling plots and storylines for kids and families to unravel in the mysterious southern town of Sulphur Springs.”

Filmed and set in Louisiana, the first season of “Secrets of Sulphur Springs” followed 12-year-old Griffin Campbell (Preston Oliver), whose world has been upended by his father, Ben (Josh Braaten), after he moves the family from Chicago to take ownership of an abandoned hotel property, The Tremont. Now, the family—which also includes Griffin’s mother, Sarah (Kelly Frye), and his younger twin siblings, Wyatt (Landon Gordon) and Zoey (Madeleine McGraw)—live in The Tremont in hopes of restoring it to the lively vacation destination it once was. On his first day at his new school, Griffin hears rumors that the hotel is haunted by the ghost of Savannah (Elle Graham), a girl who disappeared decades ago. He soon meets and befriends Harper (Kyliegh Curran), a thrill-seeking classmate, and they discover a secret portal that allows them to travel back in time and uncover clues about the town mystery.

Season two will take a deeper look into Harper’s family history and their connection to The Tremont hotel. What will start as a fact-finding mission will soon turn into a high-stakes adventure that could forever change her friendship with Griffin.

The first season of “Secrets of Sulphur Springs” is currently streaming on Disney+ and available in DisneyNow.

“Secrets of Sulphur Springs” is from creator, writer and executive producer Tracey Thomson (“The Young and the Restless”). Charles Pratt Jr. (“STAR”) also serves as showrunner and executive producer. The series is produced by Gwave Productions, LLC, and carries a TV-PG parental guideline.

Secrets of Sulphur Springs: Season 1 Lead Sheet & Fact Sheet

Secrets of Sulphur Springs: Season 1 Lead Sheet
“SECRETS OF SULPHUR SPRINGS”

Disney Channel’s “Secrets of Sulphur Springs” is a live-action, time-travel mystery series for kids ages 6-11 and their families. Set in the fictional Lousiana town of Sulphur Springs, the series follows adventurous 12-year-old Griffin Campbell and his bright-eyed, thrill-seeking friend Harper as they come across a secret portal that allows them to travel back in time and uncover clues related to an unsolved town mystery.

Griffin’s world is upended when his father, Ben Campbell, moves the family from Chicago to Sulphur Springs to take ownership of The Tremont Hotel, an abandoned property that has been vacant for decades. The Campbell family, which also includes Griffin’s loving mother Sarah and his younger twin siblings, Wyatt and Zoey, moves into The Tremont in hopes of restoring the dim, cobweb- and dust-filled hotel back to the lively vacation destination it once was—a cheery bed and breakfast complete with an onsite summer camp and nearby bubbling-water springs.

Not long after Griffin begins his first day at a new school, he learns that the hotel he just moved into is rumored to be haunted by the ghost of a girl named Savannah who, without a trace, disappeared decades ago. There he meets Harper, an artistic and mystery-obsessed classmate that he soon befriends. She is fixated on the legend of Savannah and is eager to visit The Tremont to dig into the hotel’s past.

Upon visiting the hotel and meeting Griffin’s family, the two sneakily explore The Tremont and soon stumble upon a secret portal that transports them back in time to a previous era. The portal gives Griffin and Harper a glimpse into The Tremont Hotel during its heyday and, most importantly, Savannah. Committed to solving the mystery of how she went missing, Griffin and Harper embark on a time-travel adventure that puts them face-to-face with a sequence of thrilling escapades and run-ins with younger versions of people they have come to know in the present day. Soon, they wonder if the key to solving the mystery may, in fact, lay with those around them.

Starring are Preston Oliver (“Chicago Fire”) as Griffin, Kyliegh Curran (“Doctor Sleep”) as Harper, Elle Graham (“Swamp Thing”) as Savannah, Kelly Frye (“Criminal Minds”) as Sarah, Josh Braaten (“American Horror Story”) as Ben, Landon Gordon (Disney Channel’s “Coop & Cami Ask the World”) as Wyatt and Madeleine McGraw (“Outcast”) as Zoey.

Tracey Thomson is writer and executive producer (“The Young and the Restless”), and Charles Pratt Jr. (“STAR”) serves as showrunner and executive producer. “Sulphur Springs” is a production of Gwave Productions, LLC, and carries a TV-PG parental guideline.
