Paper Girls on Amazon Prime 7/29

Paper Girls on Amazon Prime

In the early morning hours after Halloween 1988, four paper girls—Erin, Mac, Tiffany, and KJ—are out on their delivery route when they become caught in the crossfire between warring time-travelers, changing the course of their lives forever. Transported into the future, these girls must figure out a way to get back home to the past, a journey that will bring them face-to-face with the grown-up versions of themselves. While reconciling that their futures are far different than their 12-year-old selves imagined, they are being hunted by a militant faction of time-travelers known as the Old Watch, who have outlawed time travel so that they can stay in power. In order to survive, the girls will need to overcome their differences and learn to trust each other, and themselves. Based on the best-selling graphic novels written by Brian K. Vaughan and illustrated by Cliff Chiang, Paper Girls is a high-stakes personal journey depicted through the eyes of four girls, played by breakout leads Camryn Jones (“Tiffany Quilkin”), Riley Lai Nelet (“Erin Tieng”), Sofia Rosinsky (“Mac Coyle”), and Fina Strazza (“KJ Brandman”). Ali Wong also stars as the grown-up version of Erin, with Nate Corddry as “Larry,” Adina Porter as “Prioress.” Paper Girls is from Amazon Studios and Legendary Television, in association with Plan B. The series is executive produced by Christopher C. Rogers, Stephany Folsom, Brian K. Vaughan, Cliff Chiang, and Plan B.

“The Expanse” actor accused of sexual assault on social media

Cas AnvarCas Anvar (who stars in “The Expanse” on Amazon Prime Video) is the latest celebrity to be accused of sexual assault…at least on Twitter.  A woman named Lorena started the accusations, saying that two friends of hers – fans of his from the video game “Assassin’s Creed: Revelations,” where he voiced the character Altaïr Ibn-La’Ahad – had been invited by him to meet up “aggressively.” She says that one did not go, but the other one was assaulted. Other women then replied to her post, posting about their own creepy encounters with the actor.

A woman named AJ went into great detail about how he “pressured” her into going to his room when she was 17. When she told him how old she was, he allegedly replied, “That’s close enough to 18.”  She claims that he also tried to give her vodka, that he groped her, and other disgusting details.

User Iro posted, “I am disgusted. I am outraged. But I am not shocked. I have been holding friends’ stories of Cas Anvar harassing them, then intimidating or gaslighting them into silence. Hearing that his behavior extends to sexual assault of young fans who admired and trusted him is horrifying.”

UbiSubject17 tweeted what he says are private DMs from Anvar, trying to get his help in silencing another young woman who “outed him” years ago on Twitter.  Anvar sounds angry in the DMs, but he doesn’t specifically admit any wrongdoing on his part.

Most fans seem to support these women.  Some fans have been sending messages to The Expanse, to the show’s writers, and to the book’s author James S. A. Corey to call for Anvar’s firing. Anvar has not posted on Twitter since June 21st.  He was scheduled to do interviews June 24, but they were canceled by his PR firm without a word to the press (including our site).  Please note, though, that no charges have been filed. As far as we know, none of these accusers have gone to the police.  Anvar and his PR team have yet to address the accusations.

More info has been posted since then on Twitter. Also, there is plenty of info on Reddit and on this blog.  So far, no other news sites have addressed this.
