PEACOCK’S COUNTDOWN TO TOKYO PROGRAMMING ADDS GYMNASTICS DOCUSERIES GOLDEN: THE JOURNEY OF USA’S ELITE GYMNASTS

PEACOCK’S COUNTDOWN TO TOKYO PROGRAMMING ADDS GYMNASTICS DOCUSERIES GOLDEN: THE JOURNEY OF USA’S ELITE GYMNASTS

Peacock Original Series Follows Top Athletes Competing
to Make the U.S. Women’s Team for Tokyo Olympics

Partnering with UNINTERRUPTED and as part of its countdown to Tokyo programming, Peacock has ordered a six-episode docuseries following top American gymnasts—Olympic gold medalist Laurie Hernandez, Morgan Hurd, Sunisa Lee, Konnor McClain, and MyKayla Skinner— as they compete for the four coveted Team USA roster spots in the Olympic team competition. The series will follow these athletes, whose preparation for the Games was fundamentally altered by the pandemic, over a five-month period as they continue their grueling training regimens and fight for a chance to compete in the Tokyo Olympics.
Each hour-long episode of Golden will center on the individual and intertwining journeys of Team USA hopefuls leading up to the Tokyo Olympics. Hernandez won gold as a member of the “Final Five” team and an individual silver on beam in Rio. Skinner served as an alternate on that team. Morgan Hurd, the 2017 world all-around champion; Sunisa Lee, a member of the team that won gold at the 2019 World Championships; and Konnor McClain, the 2019 U.S. Classic Junior All-Around Champion who became age-eligible for the Tokyo Olympics once the Games were postponed, will also star in the series.

The series highlights major milestones throughout the journey, including National Team training camps, the U.S. Gymnastics Championships, and the U.S. Olympic Team Trials starting June 24. Each of the six episodes will feature one or two gymnasts in the cast while checking in on their fellow gymnasts.

Three-time Olympian Dominique Dawes will serve as executive producer along with LeBron James, Maverick Carter, Jamal Henderson and Philip Byron from UNINTERRUPTED. Katy Murakami is showrunning the docuseries with Harrison Macks and JP Stiles, who will serve as directors and executive producers. Camille Maratchi is a Co-EP. The series is produced by UNINTERRUPTED, a division of The SpringHill Company, the global consumer and entertainment brand created to empower greatness in every individual builtby LeBron James and Maverick Carter. “When I look back, I remember the tremendous sacrifice it took me to achieve my own Olympic pursuits,” said Dawes. “Similarly, these gymnasts have and will continue to endure physical, emotional and mental hurdles that most cannot fathom. The millions of viewers who watch the Summer Games are accustomed to witnessing the short-lived glory of the podium without truly understanding the demands these young female athletes face.

Golden will be a part of Peacock’s robust countdown to Tokyo programming. More information regarding Peacock’s Olympic coverage will be provided closer to the start of the Games.

PEACOCK DROPS TEASER FOR UPCOMING MUSIC COMEDY “WE ARE LADY PARTS” FROM NIDA MANZOOR

· Peacock unveils an all-new teaser for WE ARE LADY PARTS (fka Lady Parts), an anarchic, joyful and irreverent music comedy following a Muslim female punk band – called Lady Parts – who are on a mission to find a lead guitarist and maybe, just maybe, get a proper gig.

· View/share WE ARE LADY PARTS teaser:

· Peacock Original WE ARE LADY PARTS, in association with Channel 4, is coming soon.

· The series is written, created and directed by Nida Manzoor, who has drawn on her own experiences and taken inspiration from the rich and diverse cultural collectives and artists in London, and boasts an exciting ensemble cast of fresh British acting talent.

· WE ARE LADY PARTS shows the highs and lows of the band – Lady Parts – as seen through the eyes of Amina Hussain – a geeky microbiology PhD student, who’s on the lookout for love and is recruited to be their unlikely lead guitarist. Lady Parts’ fierce and enigmatic frontwoman Saira sees something in Amina. However, the other members – taxi-driving drummer Ayesha, cartoon-drawing bassist and backing vocalist Bisma and the band’s wheeler-dealer band manager Momtaz – are not convinced she is right for their band. Amina has never met girls like this before, and she’s soon swept up in their joyful, anarchic energy and punk spirit. But she becomes torn and caught up between two different worlds – that of her more strait-laced university friends led by her bestie Noor and the world of Lady Parts. Will she be the key to the band’s success? And – will she finally find a husband?

· WE ARE LADY PARTS is at once an unapologetically bold comedy and a joyful celebration of the richness and diversity found in contemporary London, whilst also an exploration on the fundamental questions of life: Who am I? Where and with whom do I belong? But ultimately it’s about funny women with real agency, forging their own lives and identities in a world determined to do it for them.

· The series stars Anjana Vasan (“Amina Hussain”), Sarah Kameela Impey (“Saira”), Juliette Motamed (“Ayesha”), Faith Omole (“Bisma”), Lucie Shorthouse (“Momtaz”), Zaqi Ismail (“Ahsan”), and Aiysha Hart (“Noor”).

· The series is packed with original punk songs and surprising cover tracks, written and adapted by Nida and her siblings Shez Manzoor, who also scored the show, Sanya Manzoor and Benni Fregin.

· From Working Title Television (WTTV), which is part of NBCUniversal International Studios, a division of Universal Studio Group, WE ARE LADY PARTS was created, written and directed by Nida Manzoor. It was commissioned for Channel 4 by Fiona McDermott, Head of Comedy, and Laura Riseam, Commissioning Executive. Executive Producers for WTTV are Surian Fletcher-Jones, Mark Freeland, Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner. The series is produced by John Pocock and distributed by NBCUniversal Global Distribution.

PEACOCK BUILDS ORIGINAL KIDS AND FAMILY PROGRAMMING WITH TWO UNSCRIPTED DESIGN SERIES, “BACKYARD BLOWOUT” AND “CREATE THE ESCAPE”

Peacock is adding two new original unscripted series to its slate of kids and family programming. Focusing on DIY design, creation and home renovations, BACKYARD BLOWOUT and CREATE THE ESCAPE will mark Peacock’s first venture into kids and family unscripted programming. The two all-new series will be coming soon to Peacock.

“Peacock recognizes that there’s a unique and untapped opportunity in streaming to provide kids and families fun and original unscripted content that they can watch together, particularly in the DIY design and home renovation space,” said Jenny Groom, Executive Vice President, Unscripted Content, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. “The exciting additions of fresh, innovative and imaginative shows like ‘Backyard Takeover’ and ‘Create the Escape’ are just the beginning of our commitment to expanding the kids and family content offering on Peacock.”

BACKYARD BLOWOUT

· From Departure Films (“Get Out of My Room,” “Flip this House”), BACKYARD BLOWOUT is a new renovation series that empowers kids to take charge of the family’s backyard to rebuild it and create an awesome new space for the entire family.  They have to balance the fun of their imaginations with the responsibility of their family’s needs. And what makes this show special is the design is 100% up to the kids.

· Peacock has ordered ten half-hour episodes of BACKYARD BLOWOUT.

· BACKYARD BLOWOUT will be hosted by Jonathan Kidder (“Waffles & Mochi”) and design expert Sana Garner.

· The show will provide kids the perfect opportunity to create the seemingly impossible through a backyard makeover they’ve only dreamt about – from multi-level treehouses to zip lines, pirates ship splash-pads to challenging rope courses, and even a pet palace for the family dog.

· “Kids love design and transformation, and ‘Backyard Blowout’ is a fun and natural way for them to explore their creativity and give back to the whole family,” said Matt Levine, Head of Development, Departure Films.

· Max Weissman, Matt Levine, Tim Robbins and Emmy-Award winner Sue Seide serve as executive producers. BACKYARD BLOWOUT is produced by Departure Films.

CREATE THE ESCAPE

· Max Weissman, Matt Levine, Tim Robbins and Emmy-Award winner Sue Seide serve as executive producers. CREATE THE ESCAPE is produced by Departure Films.

PEACOCK ORDERS ‘QUEER AS FOLK’ FROM UCP AND CREATOR STEPHEN DUNN TO SERIES

PEACOCK ORDERS ‘QUEER AS FOLK’ FROM UCP AND CREATOR STEPHEN DUNN TO SERIES

Peacock today announced a straight to series order for QUEER AS FOLK, from UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, and creator Stephen Dunn.

QUEER AS FOLK is a vibrant reimagining of the groundbreaking British series created by Russell T. Davies, exploring a diverse group of friends in New Orleans whose lives are transformed in the aftermath of a tragedy.

“QUEER AS FOLK was more than just a show, it was a ground-breaking and necessary voice for so many people. Stephen’s new version for Peacock arrives at yet another pivotal moment in our culture,” said Lisa Katz, President, Scripted Content, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming. “Alex Sepiol, EVP of drama programming, and his team have championed this project from the first moment it landed on their desks, working to ensure the script became the series we’re announcing today. The entire team is so excited to be a part of introducing a new generation to this type of authentic and affirming storytelling.”

“It is a surreal honour to adapt the notoriously groundbreaking series by Russell T. Davies. When the show originally aired, the idea of unapologetic queer stories on TV was so provocative that I felt I could only watch QUEER AS FOLK in secret,” said creator Stephen Dunn. “But so much has changed in the last 20 years and how wonderful would it be if the next generation didn’t have to watch QUEER AS FOLK alone in their dank basements with the sound muted, but with their family and friends and the volume cranked all the way to the max…”

“QUEER AS FOLK is a transformative show, that in its past iterations, was a pioneer in representation of the LGBTQ community and we’re excited to continue that legacy. Stephen Dunn brings an energy and modern lens to the series through characters we’ve fallen in love with. We can’t wait to bring it to Peacock for viewers to enjoy this visionary and vibrant show,” said Beatrice Springborn, President of UCP.

QUEER AS FOLK is produced by UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group. The series is created, written and executive produced by Stephen Dunn, who will also direct the pilot episode. Additional executive producers include Lee Eisenberg, Emily Brecht, original series creator Russell T. Davies, Nicola Shindler, and Richard Halliwell on behalf of NENT Studios UK, which distributes the format.

ABOUT STEPHEN DUNN: Stephen Dunn is an award-winning writer/director based in Los Angeles, though currently quarantined in native Newfoundland, Canada. Most recently, Dunn co-wrote and directed the Spirit Award and GLAAD Award-nominated episode, “The Son”, of the Apple TV+ series Little America. His debut feature, CLOSET MONSTER, had its world premiere at TIFF 2015; it won the Canada Goose Award for Best Canadian Feature. Indiewire said of the film: “Closet Monster” may feature a talking hamster and a hefty volume of very bloody flashbacks-turned-fantasy, but Oscar’s issues continually remain real and relatable. Dunn plays around with perspective and style, but all the flash doesn’t obscure the film’s emotion and heart, which are deep and true.” The film has been released by Strand. Currently, Dunn is writing and will direct the reimagining of the iconic series Queer as Folk for Peacock, as well as adapting the novel Yes, Daddy at Amazon with Patrick Moran producing. Dunn is repped by WME, Mosaic, and HJTH.
