“ONE DAY AT A TIME” RETURNS TO CBS

45 YEARS AFTER ITS ORIGINAL PREMIERE, THE REIMAGINED “ONE DAY AT A TIME” RETURNS TO CBS, OCT. 5 AT 9:00 PM

THE NETWORK TELEVISION PREMIERE OF THE CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED COMEDY “ONE DAY AT A TIME,” FROM LEGENDARY PRODUCER NORMAN LEAR, DEBUTS WITH BACK-TO-BACK EPISODES

CBS will premiere the fourth season of the reimagined version of the series ONE DAY AT A TIME, 45 years after the original, from legendary producer Norman Lear, made its debut on the Network. The critically acclaimed comedy will air back-to-back episodes beginning Monday, Oct. 5 (9:00-9:30 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

“45 years ago, I was delighted to premiere a series on CBS called ‘One Day at a Time,’” said executive producer Norman Lear. “The show was a reflection of strong family values and a beautiful demonstration of how families come in all forms with love and humor at the center. I am so thrilled to have our reimagined ONE DAY AT A TIME – this time Latinx and with Mike Royce and Gloria Calderón Kellett at the helm – and air in that same time slot this coming Monday evening. It is a full circle moment, and I couldn’t be more pleased. The times have changed, obviously the cast has changed, but the values remain the same – love and family make everything worthwhile.”

ONE DAY AT A TIME is a hilarious and heartfelt comedy that follows three generations of a Cuban-American family navigating the ups and downs of life in Los Angeles. All together under one roof, the Alvarez family includes single mom Penelope, an army veteran and nurse practitioner; her social activist daughter Elena; her popular “Abuelita’s boy” son Alex; and her old-school Cuban mother Lydia. The critically acclaimed show tackles timely issues like mental illness, immigration, sexism, homophobia and racism, among others.

In addition, Ray Romano from “Everybody Loves Raymond” makes his return to the Monday 9:00 PM timeslot on CBS, when he guest-stars in the first episode of the fourth season of the award-winning series on Oct. 5.

“Checking Boxes” – When census taker Brian (guest star Ray Romano) comes to the Alvarez house, the family reflects on their relationships, and what else the future may, or may not, have in store, on the first of back-to-back episodes of the network television premiere of ONE DAY AT A TIME, Monday, Oct. 5 (9:00-9:30 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

“Penny Pinching” – After Penelope realizes she needs to change her relationship to money, she goes out of her comfort zone and buys something brand new. Also, Elena struggles to make it to an important e-sports match, on the second of back-to-back episodes of ONE DAY AT A TIME, Monday, Oct. 5 (9:30-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

The series stars Screen Actors Guild Award winner Justina Machado, Todd Grinnell, Isabella Gomez, Marcel Ruiz, Stephen Tobolosky and EGOT award winner and legendary performer Rita Moreno.

All episodes from the fourth season, previously on Pop, will air on CBS. ONE DAY AT A TIME is produced by Sony Pictures Television.

The critically acclaimed Sony Pictures Television series premiered in March and has grown its ratings week-over-week, setting a new season high with its fourth episode on April 14th .
In response to COVID-19, production was put on hold so executive producer and co-showrunner Gloria Calderón Kellett landed on the idea of an animated special. Production will be completed remotely and will premiere later this spring. The mid-season finale of ONE DAY AT A TIME airs tonight at 9:30PM ET/PT on Pop TV and will simulcast on TV Land.
The ONE DAY AT A TIME animated special centers around Penelope’s conservative family visiting. Penelope dreads that with the election coming up, they won’t be able to avoid fighting over politics. The Alvarez family spends the episode discussing strategies of how to get through it, illustrated through fantasy sequences. The cast will all voice their own characters and will be joined by celebrity guests to be announced at a later date.
“As we all know, it’s hard to keep ONE DAY AT A TIME off the air. During this unprecedented time, we wanted to find a way to keep our family – on camera and behind the scenes – together and create more entertaining content for our fans who are self-distancing at home,” said Kellett. “This animated special gives us an exciting opportunity to imagine the Alvarez family in a colorful new way while continuing to tell important and relevant stories.”
