New York, NY; August 31, 2021 – AMC Networks’ IFC and the targeted streaming service Sundance Now have acquired the exclusive U.S., Canada and U.K. premiere rights to New Zealand comedy Good Grief and have already co-commissioned a second season from Kiel McNaughton and Kerry Warkia’s Brown Sugar Apple Grunt Productions Ltd. Co-created, co-written and starring sisters Eve and Grace Palmer along with co-creator/co-writer Nick Schaedel, the six-episode comedy series is set in small New Zealand town and follows two millennial sisters with very different personalities who inherit a funeral home from their grandfather. Good Grief, Season 1 will make its U.S., Canadian and U.K. premiere on September 30 as binge release (6×15) on Sundance Now followed by its North American broadcast premiere on IFC beginning October 4. Season 2 will go into production later in 2021 in Auckland city and premiere in 2022 with 6 episodes expanded to 20 minutes each.

Unsure what to do with the funeral home – or the oddball staff that keep the place running – Ellie and Gwen Goode (Eve and Grace Palmer) are thrust into a world of embalming, emceeing, and embarrassment. Recently fired from her teaching career, Ellie starts to warm to the job, but all Gwen wants to do is go DJ in Bali. By staring death in the face every day, Ellie and Gwen begin to confront the realities of their own life, and what they want to make of it. Good Grief finds light in the darkness, weaving both the comedy and tragedy of life into a rich emotional tapestry.

Good Grief, Season 1 is directed by Kiel McNaughton (The Legend of Baron To’a, My Life is Murder), produced by Angela Cudd (I Am Waru) and Kerry Warkia (Vai, Waru). The first season’s creative team and lead cast will also return for Season 2.

Eve and Grace Palmer said, “We’re honoured to be working with AMC Networks to bring our little kiwi comedy to an international audience. They say ‘if you don’t laugh, you’ll cry’ but we hope that in watching this dark comedy about life and death, you’ll be able to do both.”

“Good Grief is a unique and quirky comedy that we’re excited to bring to audiences on both Sundance Now and IFC,” said Dan McDermott, president of original programming, AMC Networks. “After watching the first season, we were so in love with the Goode sisters that we jumped at the chance to work with Eve, Grace, Nick, Kiel and Kerry to commission further adventures with them.”

Kiel McNaughton, founding partner of Brown Sugar Apple Grunt Productions noted, “We are over the moon to be partnering with AMC Networks to bring more unique and underrepresented voices to audiences around the world. We can’t wait to get going with season 2.”

Sundance Now has a successful history of experimenting with new formats and short form series, most recently with the series State of the Union, which was renewed for a second season earlier this year. Season one, written by Nick Hornsby and directed by Stephen Frears, starred Rosamund Pike and Chris O’Dowd and swept the short form categories at the 2019 Emmy Awards, with wins as best Short Form Comedy or Drama Series and for both Pike and O’Dowd. State of the Union’s second season will match the format of the first, with 10 episodes, each 10 minutes long, and stars Brendan Gleeson, Patricia Clarkson and Esco Jouléy.

Produced by Shaftsbury, Slo Pitch is a mockumentary-style series following the comedic misadventures of the overly invested Coach Joanne and her queer softball team, The Brovaries. Season two will shoot this summer in the baseball fields and parks in and around Toronto. Heralded as “wonderfully whimsical” (The Globe and Mail) and “…a hit right off the bat” (Toronto Sun), Slo Pitch stars Kirsten Rasmussen (Band Ladies, Second City), Gwenlyn Cumyn (BARBELLE), Karen Knox (BARBELLE), Lane Webber (Gay Mean Girls), Kaitlin Alexander (Carmilla), Khadijah Roberts-Abdullah (Sugar Daddy), Amanda Cordner (Baroness Von Sketch), and Chelsea Muirhead (From The Vaults).

Each season consists of 10 10-minute episodes with season one following the underdog Brovaries team as they battle their way to the championship game in their highly competitive beer league. Season two will see the team continue their fight towards the championship title, as Joanne and teammate Sasha also plan their upcoming wedding.

“Slo Pitch is an offbeat comedy that spotlights a memorable group of women with championships and beer on their mind. IFC MIDNIGHT DEVOURS NORTH AMERICAN RIGHTS FOR WELSH-LANGUAGE REVENGE HORROR “THE FEAST”

IFC MIDNIGHT DEVOURS NORTH AMERICAN RIGHTS FOR WELSH-LANGUAGE REVENGE HORROR “THE FEAST”
NEW YORK, NY (April 29, 2021) – IFC Midnight announced today that they are acquiring North American rights to the Welsh-language supernatural revenge horror The Feast, directed by BAFTA-winning television director Lee Haven Jones in his feature debut. IFC Midnight will release the film Thanksgiving 2021.

Directed by Jones and written and produced by Roger Williams, The Feast stars Annes Elwy, Nia Roberts, and Julian Lewis Jones alongside Sion Alun Davies, Steffan Cennydd, Rhodri Meilir, and Lisa Palfrey. The Feast was produced through Ffilm Cymru Wales’ Cinematic scheme and was funded by S4C, Ffilm Cymru Wales, BFI (using funds from the National Lottery) and Fields Park. The film was produced in association with Melville Media Limited with support from Great Point Media.

Rooted in the potent mythical fables of Wales, The Feast unfolds over the course of a single evening as a wealthy family gathers at their lavish home in the Welsh mountains for a dinner party, hosting a local businessman and neighbouring farmer to broker a business deal to mine the surrounding countryside. When a mysterious young woman arrives to be their waitress for the evening, the family’s beliefs and values are challenged as her quiet yet disturbing presence begins to unravel their lives – slowly, deliberately, and with the most terrifying of consequences. A slow burn meditation on history and tradition, greed and responsibility, identity and difference, The Feast is a contemporary morality tale that questions who is truly meant to inherit the earth, permeated with a mounting sense of dread that leads to a horrifying, blood-soaked conclusion.

Filmed in the Welsh language, The Feast made its world premiere as a Midnighters entry at the 2021 SXSW Film Festival, with Jones’ meticulous composition and Annes Elwy’s eerie central performance catching the attention of U.S. and international critics alike. In a review for Screen International, Nikki Baughan praised her lead performance as “beguiling”, writing, “Annes Elwy is quietly mesmerizing…in a role which utilizes little dialogue, Elwy plums Cadi’s surprising depths with a quiet intensity”. Reviewing for Variety, Jessica Kiang wrote, “The chilly control of Jones’ filmmaking, enhanced by the pristine, deadened soundscape and Samuel Sim’s intriguing, atmospheric score, keeps our attention squirming on the hook,” adding, “the direction is so confident and the craft so impeccable that The Feast, though built from few ingredients, fills you up like a three-course meal”.

Arianna Bocco President of IFC Films, said, “It’s hard to shake the sense of fear and apprehension that you feel while watching The Feast, a terrifying and twisted fable that will keep you on the very edge of your seat until the shocking, grand guignol-worthy finale. We’re so excited to work with Lee on his feature debut and can’t wait to share The Feast with horror audiences everywhere.”

Writer and Producer Roger Williams added, “I’m thrilled IFC Midnight will be serving up The Feast in the USA and Canada. I’m certain audiences across North America will be entertained and horrified in equal measure by our unique Welsh film which thanks to IFC Midnight will now find the widest audience possible.”

The deal for the film was negotiated by IFC Films President Arianna Bocco and Director of Acquisitions Aijah Keith with Bankside Films representing the filmmakers.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK (February 10, 2021) – IFC Midnight announced today that it is acquiring North American rights to THE DJINN, from breakout directors, David Charbonier and Justin Powell, starring Ezra Dewey, Rob Brownstein, and Tevy Poe. In addition to THE DJINN, David and Justin had their feature directorial debut on the 2020 festival circuit with THE BOY BEHIND THE DOOR premiering at Fantastic Fest and AFI Fest to rave reviews. Produced by Ryan Scaringe, Carter Armstrong, and Meghan Weinstein with executive producer Jilbert Daniel. IFC Midnight will release the film on May 14, 2021 in select theaters and on demand.

THE DJINN follows a mute, young boy, who unleashes a sinister monster after he makes a wish to fulfill his greatest desire: to have a voice. Now trapped in a small apartment with nowhere to hide, Dylan must find a way to survive until the stroke of midnight or pay the ultimate price.

Arianna Bocco, President of IFC Films said, “David Charbonier and Justin Powell have wasted no time in making their mark in the genre film community, bringing a potent intensity to screens with the debut of two features within a year. We are beyond excited to unleash their bold and layered vision to audiences with THE DJINN and have them join IFC Midnight’s proud history of emerging talent.”

Directors David Charbonier and Justin Powell added, “It is an honor to work with IFC Midnight on THE DJINN. We made this story to test what we could do with limited resources, but as we developed the film it became something very special to us. We look forward to sharing the movie with audiences nationwide and collaborating with our great distribution partner!”

IFC Midnight has introduced American audiences to some of the most exciting directorial debuts in the horror genre including; Natalie Erika James (RELIC), Jennifer Kent (THE BABADOOK), Peter Strickland (BERBERIAN SOUND STUDIO) Carlo Mirabella Davis (SWALLOW), Jennifer Reeder (KNIVES AND SKIN), Jocelyn DeBoer and Dawn Luebbe (GREENER GRASS), Dave Franco (THE RENTAL), Egor Abramenko (SPUTNIK), Brett and Drew Pierce (THE WRETCHED), and the upcoming films from Hannah Bergholm (HATCHING), Keith Thomas (THE VIGIL), and Ruth Paxton (A BANQUET).

IFC FILMS PICKS UP SIZZLING ROMANCE “MONDAY” STARRING SEBASTIAN STAN AND DENISE GOUGH

IFC FILMS PICKS UP SIZZLING ROMANCE “MONDAY” STARRING SEBASTIAN STAN AND DENISE GOUGH SET OVER ONE SUMMER IN GREECE
FILM TO HAVE APRIL 16TH RELEASE IN NORTH AMERICA

NEW YORK, NY (February 5, 2021) – IFC Films announced today that they are acquiring North American rights to Argyris Papadimitropoulos’ latest feature MONDAY starring Sebastian Stan (THE FALCON AND THE WINTER SOLDIER, I TONYA) and Denise Gough (COLETTE, THE OTHER LAMB). Produced by Christos V. Konstantakopoulos, Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Damian Jones, Deanna Barillari, and Papadimitropoulos at Faliro House – co-written by Argyris Papadimitropoulos with Rob Hayes. MONDAY is Argyris Papadimitropoulos’ fourth feature. MONDAY was an official selection at the 2020 Tribeca Film Festival and 2020 Toronto International Film Festival. IFC Films will release the film on April 16th, 2021 in select theaters and on demand.

When Mickey (Sebastian Stan) is dragged away from his DJ set by a drunken friend and introduced to Chloe (Denise Gough) one hot summer night in Athens, the attraction between the pair is immediately palpable—so palpable that before they know it they’re waking up naked on the beach Saturday morning. And so it goes that a one night stand on Friday turns into a whirlwind weekend romance that leads to serious conversations when they face the harsh sunlight on Monday morning.

Director Argyris Papadimitropoulos said, “In many ways, the film has become even more relevant in this current environment, as all relationships got challenged during the lockdown and Chloe’s and Mickey’s story is a very realistic take on relationships. At a time when things have started getting more optimistic in the world and a summer trip to Greece, crowded parties, people kissing and having fun is something we are all longing for – I believe the timing is perfect to release the film and the fact that it found a home at IFC Films, makes my smile a little bigger.”

The deal for the film was negotiated by President of IFC Films Arianna Bocco with ICM Partners and Protagonist Pictures on behalf of the filmmakers.
