Said Blake Callaway, General Manager of IFC, “Sherman’s Showcase has it all. Bashir and Diallo have delivered a jam-packed new season full of sketches, songs, fashion statements, movie parodies, outrageous antics, and even a trip to Lagos. This block party of a sketch show is back and better than ever.”

“We worked so hard to make this season happen,” show creators Riddle and Salahuddin said in a statement. “We filmed during a Covid spike. Our writers’ room was in a parking lot. We were wearing masks in the recording booth. It was insane. Still, somehow, we think we’ve topped Season 1. As our director Matthew Piedmont has said, we tried to only elevate the Sherman’s Showcase experience this season. And despite the challenges, the cast, crew, and a ton of dancers and stars still found their way to the studio where we shoot this show. Risking their lives. And ours. It was worth it.”

The acclaimed series Sherman’s Showcase features sketches, dancers, fake commercials, movie trailers, cultural nostalgia, the Funk Monster, A-list guest stars and original songs (“Drop it Low for Jesus,” “Marina Del Ray”) that definitely climbed the fictional charts. Each episode is hosted by Sherman McDaniels as he takes viewers through time, via music and comedy drawn from the 50-year library of a legendary (but fictional) musical variety show.

Sherman’s Showcase’s first season is rated 100% Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and is created by Bashir Salahuddin (Top Gun: Maverick, South Side) and Diallo Riddle (Marlon, South Side), who also star and executive produce. Emmy® and Tony® winner Mike Jackson, EGOT recipient John Legend, and Emmy®-winner and CEO of the management, media and social impact company Friends at Work, Ty Stiklorious serve as executive producers through their Get Lifted Film Co. (La La Land, Underground, Jesus Christ Superstar). Pete Aronson serves as executive producer, and Frank Scherma and Johnathan Meyers of RadicalMedia, the production company behind this year’s Academy Award-winning Best Documentary Film, also executive produce. The two-part, season premiere episode, “Soldier of Illusion,” written by John Mulaney and starring Alexander Skarsgård (The Northman, Big Little Lies), Nicholas Braun (Succession, Zola) and August Diehl (Inglourious Basterds), was inspired by the Werner Herzog-focused documentary Burden of Dreams. Kevin Bishop (Miracle Workers, The Tracey Ullman Show), Gana Bayarsaikhan (Wonder Woman), Matthias Rimpler (Ludzie i Bogowie) and Fred Armisen will also star, with Documentary Now! ensemble alumni Deb Hiett returning as narrator.

“Trouver Frisson”features French actor Liliane Rovère (Call My Agent!, Family Business) and Ronald Guttman (Godfather of Harlem, Sister of the Groom). Written by series producers Matt Pacult and Tamsin Rawady and co-directed by Micah Gardner, the episode also stars Documentary Now! alumni Gary Kraus.
These new titles join the three previously announced episodes, all written by Seth Meyers, to round out Season 53:

“Two Hairdressers in Bagglyport” will star two-time Academy Award®-winner and Documentary Now! alumni Cate Blanchett (Blue Jasmine, Carol), as well as Emmy®-nominated actress Harriet Walter (Succession, Killing Eve). Paying homage to documentaries 3 Salons at the Seaside and The September Issue, the episode is a fly-on-the-wall portrait of a hair salon owner (Walter) and her staff (Blanchett), in the small coastal village of Bagglyport as they prepare their yearly stylebook. Fred Armisen will also star as George the Postman.

“How They Threw Rocks” will feature Welsh actors Trystan Gravelle (Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power, A Discovery of Witches), Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes, The Crown) and John Rhys-Davies (The Lord of The Rings, Indiana Jones), as well as legendary Welsh singer Tom Jones. In the vein of When We Were Kings and other great explorations of sport, the episode chronicles the Welsh sport of Craig Maes, also known as “Field Rock,” and the iconic 1974 bout dubbed “The Melon vs. The Felon (Gravelle).” Fellow Welsh actor Sam C. Wilson (Dodger) joins as infamous Craig Maes competitor Sior Strawboss or “The Melon.”

“My Monkey Grifter” will be helmed by actor Jamie Demetriou (The Afterparty). Drawing inspiration from My Octopus Teacher, the episode follows Benjamin Clay (Demetriou), a filmmaker who forms a deep, emotional, and financially taxing relationship with a monkey who may have ulterior motives. Fred Armisen also joins as Detective Blakely.

IFC AND SUNDANCE NOW REVEAL ALL-NEW TRAILER FOR ORIGINAL COMEDY SERIES “GOOD GRIEF” AHEAD OF SEASON TWO PREMIERE

Irreverent New Zealand Comedy Premieres Thursday, August 4 as a Binge Release on Sundance Now, Followed by a Two-Episode Broadcast Premiere Wednesday, August 17 on IFC

NEW YORK – July 29, 2022 – AMC Networks’ IFC and the targeted streaming service Sundance Now released today an all-new trailer for the irreverent kiwi comedy Good Grief. Season two of the original series will make its U.S., Canadian and U.K. premiere on Thursday, August 4 as binge release on Sundance Now, followed by its North American two-episode broadcast premiere on IFC beginning Wednesday, August 17.

Co-created, co-written and starring sisters Eve and Grace Palmer along with co-creator/co-writer Nick Schaedel, the six-episode comedy series is set in small New Zealand town and follows two millennial sisters with very different personalities who inherit a funeral home from their grandfather.

Since inheriting the Loving Tributes funeral home in Season 1, Ellie (Eve Palmer) and Gwen Goode (Grace Palmer, Adrift) have set off on very different paths. Ellie embraces her inner ‘girlboss’, with all the ill-fitting pantsuits, amateur TV ads, and plumber liaisons that entails. Meanwhile, Gwen spends five months DJing in Bali and reappears unexpectedly in New Zealand to discover their mother has a new boyfriend and she’s been kicked out of the family home. Gwen moves in with Ellie, takes up the job of social marketing for Loving Tributes, and embarks on a childish prank war against their mother’s new partner. As family tensions escalate at work and at home, Ellie must decide whether to intervene, or let Gwen grow up all by herself.

Good Grief, Season 2 is directed by Kiel McNaughton (The Legend of Baron To’a, My Life is Murder), produced by Angela Cudd (I Am Waru) and Kerry Warkia (Vai, Waru).

NEW YORK – July 11, 2022 – IFC today released the first round of casting for the highly anticipated 53rd season of Documentary Now!, with celebrated actors Cate Blanchett (Blue Jasmine, Carol), Jamie Demetriou (The Afterparty, The Great), Trystan Gravelle (Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power, A Discovery of Witches), Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes, The Crown), John Rhys-Davies (The Lord of The Rings, Indiana Jones) and Harriet Walter (Succession, Killing Eve), as well as legendary music artist Tom Jones joining the critically acclaimed original comedy series. Known for lovingly playing homage to the world of documentaries, six all-new episodes of Documentary Now! Season 53 are set to air on IFC and AMC+ in the Fall of 2022.

Co-created by Fred Armisen, Bill Hader, Seth Meyers and Rhys Thomas, and hosted by Dame Helen Mirren, the series is executive produced by Lorne Michaels and produced by Broadway Video. The star-studded cast toplines the three previously announced episodes from the upcoming season all written by co-creator Seth Meyers:

“Two Hairdressers in Bagglyport” will star two-time Academy Award®-winner and Documentary Now! alumni Cate Blanchett (Blue Jasmine, Carol), as well as actress Harriet Walter (Succession, Killing Eve). Paying homage to fashion documentaries 3 Salons at the Seaside and The September Issue, the episode is a fly-on-the-wall portrait of a hair salon owner (Walter) and her staff (Blanchett), in the small coastal village of Bagglyport as they prepare their yearly stylebook. Documentary Now! co-creator Fred Armisen will also star as George the Postman.
Additional guest stars and documentaries will be announced at a later date.

The six-time Emmy®-nominated Documentary Now! debuted to rave reviews from critics and quickly became a fan favorite thanks to its insightful take on some of the most well-known documentary films. Each episode takes viewers back in time to honor groundbreaking documentaries. Season 52 guest stars included Cate Blanchett, Owen Wilson, Michael Keaton, Natasha Lyonne, John Mulaney, Michael C. Hall, Taran Killam, Richard Kind, and more.

Documentary Now! is executive produced by Fred Armisen, Bill Hader, Seth Meyers, Rhys Thomas, Lorne Michaels, Alex Buono, John Mulaney and Broadway Video’s Andrew Singer. Once again, Thomas and Buono are the show’s directors with Erik Kenward serving as consulting producer. Alice Mathias and David Cress co-executive produce, with Matt Pacult, Tamsin Rawady, Eddie Michaels and Andrew Garland serving as producers. EMU Films produced in the UK, with Lee Groombridge serving as producer and Jim Mooney, Michael Elliott and Wali Ullah serving as executives.
