20TH DIGITAL STUDIO’S HORROR FILM “MATRIARCH” WILL HAVE WORLD PREMIERE AT 2022 SCREAMFEST HORROR FILM FESTIVAL

“Game of Thrones” Star Kate Dickie Leads the Film, Premiering on Hulu October 21

September 15, 2022 (Los Angeles, CA) – Kate Dickie, known for her memorable mothering performances in ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘The Witch,’ stars as the titular “Matriarch” in a rural British body horror family drama, the second in a slate of nine feature-length films developed and expanded from 20th Digital Studio’s short film collection “Bite Size Halloween.” The Hulu Original film will hold its world premiere screening at the 2022 Screamfest Horror Film Festival in Hollywood, Calif., on October 11 – opening night – before premiering on the streamer for Huluween on October 21. Check out the full Screamfest lineup here.

UK filmmaker Ben Steiner (“Monsterland 2”) wrote and directed the film, led by Jemima Rooper (“The Girlfriend Experience,” “Flowers in the Attic: The Origin”). At a breaking point after a near-fatal overdose, a woman (Rooper) returns to her childhood home to confront her mother (Dickie) and her personal demons, but instead discovers a real one. “Matriarch” was shot in Bristol, England and features supporting cast members Sarah Paul (“EastEnders”), Franc Ashman (“I May Destroy You”), and Keith David Bartlett.

Steiner’s short film “Urn” was a part of the 2018 “Huluween Film Fest,” in which all shorts were produced by 20th (then Fox) Digital Studio. A spiritual successor to “Urn,” “Matriarch” also deals with a toxic mother-daughter relationship and both films incorporate Steiner’s visual style.

“Matriarch” was developed by 20th Digital Studio with David Worthen Brooks, Arbi Pedrossian, and Jenna Cavelle serving as executive producers. Production services were carried out by Sharp House producers Ian Sharp and Eoin O-Faolain, and co-producer Alexa Waugh.

“Matriarch” is part of the previously announced nine-film slate of Hulu Original horror features from 20th Digital based primarily on their “Bite Size Halloween” series of short films from emerging filmmakers including the upcoming “Clock” from Alexis Jacknow, and “Appendage” from Anna Zlokovic, among others. “Grimcutty” from writer/director John William Ross will premiere on October 10 and season three of “Bite Size Halloween” is available on Hulu on October 1 with 20 new horror and sci-fi shorts from emerging filmmakers.

STARZ RELEASES TRAILER AND KEY ART FOR HORROR COMEDY “SHINING VALE”

Get a Glimpse at this Homage to Classic Horror Mixed with Family Dramedy Lead by Courteney Cox, Greg Kinnear, and Mira Sorvino

Santa Monica, Calif. – February 9, 2022 – STARZ released the trailer and key art for their upcoming horror comedy that’s part family dramedy, part homage to classic horror in “Shining Vale” created by Jeff Astrof (“Trial & Error,” “Ground Floor,”) and Sharon Horgan (“Divorce,” “Catastrophe”), starring Emmy Award® nominee Courteney Cox (“Friends,” “Cougar Town”), Academy Award® nominee and Emmy Award® winner Greg Kinnear (“As Good As It Gets,” “The Kennedys”), and Oscar® winner Mira Sorvino (“Hollywood,” “The Expecting”).

“Shining Vale” premieres with two episodes Sunday, March 6, 2022 at midnight on the STARZ app, all STARZ streaming and on-demand platforms, and internationally on the STARZPLAY premium streaming platform across Europe, Latina America and Japan. On linear, it will debut on STARZ at 10:20PM ET/PT in the U.S. and Canada.

The upcoming horror comedy also stars Gus Birney (“Dickinson”), Merrin Dungey (“Big Little Lies,” “The Resident”) and Dylan Gage (“PEN15”), and features Judith Light (“Impeachment: American Crime Story”) and Sherilyn Fenn (“Twin Peaks”).

About “Shining Vale”

Pat and Terry Phelps (Cox and Kinnear) cash in their life savings and move from a cramped apartment in Brooklyn, to an old Victorian mansion in Shining Vale, Connecticut as a last-ditch effort to save their marriage after Pat’s torrid affair with Frank, their young hot handyman who came over to fix the sink while Terry was at work. To make matters worse for Terry, Frank never fixed the sink, yet still charged him for it!

A former “wild child” who rose to fame by writing a raunchy, drug-and-alcohol-soaked women’s empowerment novel (a.k.a. lady porn), Pat is now clean and sober 17 years later but totally unfulfilled. She still hasn’t written her second novel, she can’t remember the last time she had sex with her husband, while her teenage daughter, Gaynor (Gus Birney) wants Pat dead and Jake (Dylan Gage), their adolescent son, is so addicted to screens he’s completely checked out.

Buying a 200-year-old house that was on the market for almost three years and sold for more than $250K below asking seemed like a good idea on paper, but Pat senses that the Phelps are not alone; especially when an old-fashioned-looking woman appears hovering outside their family room window.

The Phelps quickly learn why the agents were so motivated to sell the house for a fraction of the asking price. Seems a few details were glossed over, including a triple murder-suicide and a host of other atrocities they neglected to mention. But neither Terry nor the kids seem to notice that something is horribly wrong with their new home; only Pat can see things move and hear the bumps in the night. She’s also the only one who sees the spirit of the person who used to live there, Rosemary (Sorvino), a Fifties housewife who may or may not be trying to take over Pat’s body. Is Pat depressed, or possessed? Turns out the symptoms are exactly the same.

Everyone has their demons, but for Pat Phelps, they may be real.

“Shining Vale” is executive produced by Jeff Astrof from Other Shoe Productions, Sharon Horgan and Clelia Mountford (“Motherland,” “This Way Up,”) from Merman, Aaron Kaplan (“The Chi,” “The Neighborhood”) and Dana Honor (“A Million Little Things,” “The Unicorn”) from Kapital Entertainment. Courteney Cox is producer. Astrof wrote the pilot teleplay, from a story by Horgan & Astrof. The series is produced by Warner Bros. Television and Lionsgate Television in association with Other Shoe Productions, Merman and Kapital Entertainment.

“Shining Vale” will air on STARZ in the U.S. and Canada and on its international streaming platform STARZPLAY across Europe, Latin America and Japan.

EPIX(R) RELEASES FIRST TEASER TRAILER FOR HORROR SERIES “FROM” AND ANNOUNCES PREMIERE DATE OF SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 20

New York, NY – October 28, 2021 – Just in time for Halloween, EPIX(R) releases the first look teaser trailer for their contemporary sci-fi horror series, From, and announces a February 20, 2022 premiere date. Created and executive produced by John Griffin (Crater), directed and executive produced by Jack Bender (Lost, Game of Thrones, Mr. Mercedes), and showrun and executive produced by Jeff Pinkner (Fringe, Alias, Lost), From features a stellar ensemble cast lead by Harold Perrineau (Lost). The series unravels the mystery of a nightmarish town in middle America that traps all those who enter. As the unwilling residents fight to keep a sense of normalcy and search for a way out, they must also survive the threats of the surrounding forest – including the terrifying creatures that come out when the sun goes down.

From is a co-production between EPIX Studios and MGM International Television Productions, and is produced by Midnight Radio and AGBO. Production wrapped earlier this month in Halifax, NS. The series will be distributed by Netflix outside of the U.S.

Executive producer Jack Bender directed the first four episodes. Alongside Griffin, Bender and Pinkner as executive producers are Josh Appelbaum, André Nemec and Scott Rosenberg for Midnight Radio, and Anthony and Joe Russo and Mike Larocca for AGBO. Midnight Radio’s Adrienne Erickson will serve as co-executive producer.

Cast includes:

HAROLD PERRINEAU (Lost, Oz) – “Boyd Stevens”

Boyd Stevens is the sheriff whose Draconian rules have held the fragile town together, even as he searches for a way to escape this seemingly inescapable nightmare.

CATALINA SANDINO MORENO (Maria Full of Grace, The Affair) – “Tabitha Matthews”

Tabitha Matthews, struggling in the aftermath of tragedy, suddenly finds herself and her family trapped in the town.

EION BAILEY (Band of Brothers, Once Upon a Time) – “Jim Matthews”

Jim Matthews, along with his wife, Tabitha, struggles to find a way to keep his children safe and come to terms with this new reality even as they desperately search for a way back home.

HANNAH CHERAMY – “Julie”

Julie is the daughter of Jim and Tabitha Matthews (Eion Bailey, Catalina Sandino Moreno). She’s in the throes of adolescence, still reeling from a family tragedy and now stuck in this terrifying new town – though, unexpectedly, her arrival here may be the best thing that’s ever happened to her.

SIMON WEBSTER – “Ethan”

Ethan is the younger brother of Julie Matthews, and the son of Jim and Tabitha. Ethan is routinely taunted by his big sister, who takes his gentle spirit for weakness. After a car crash leaves his family stuck in town, a gravely injured Ethan begins to feel changed by his surroundings.

RICKY HE (The Good Doctor) – “Kenny”

Kenny is Sheriff Boyd’s deputy, a first-generation immigrant trapped in this town with his parents. With his dad suffering from dementia and Kenny routinely getting called upon to help Boyd deal with some fresh catastrophe, Kenny is doing his best to rise to the occasion.

CHLOE VAN LANDSCHOOT – “Kristi”

Kristi was trapped in town during her 3rd year of med school and has assumed the role of town medic. She’s frequently called upon to handle problems that would rattle the nerves of the most veteran doctor.

SHAUN MAJUMDER – “Father Khatri”

Father Khatri cares for the spirits of the townsfolk. He’s strong, compassionate, and believes there are more important matters than just surviving this town — people must remember what they are surviving for. There is also more to Father Khatri than first meets the eye.

CORTEON MOORE (Utopia Falls) – “Ellis”

Ellis is the estranged son of Sheriff Boyd and a resident of Colony House. He is a handsome young philosopher with the soul of an artist and a deep well of unresolved trauma and rage. Only time will tell if the broken relationship between Ellis and his father can ever be healed.

PEGAH GHAFOORI – “Fatima”

Fatima is a resident of Colony House and an Iranian immigrant to the US. Even here in this town she focuses on the good, like the fact that she never would have met Ellis, the love of her life, if not for this terrible place.

DAVID ALPAY (Castle Rock) – “Jade”

Jade is abrash, entitled tech hot shot, who just sold his company for hundreds of millions of dollars. What was meant to be an extravagant weekend celebration for Jade instead turns to horror when he finds himself trapped in a nightmarish town with seemingly no way out.

ELIZABETH SAUNDERS (Clarice) – “Donna”

Donna is the earthy, strong leader of Colony House -the town’s separatist faction. She is at once a caring, nurturing den mother to all of those at Colony House, and an unyielding, unforgiving force of nature that stands between Colony House and any who would threaten their way of life.

ELIZABETH MOY – “Tain-Chen”

Tain-Chen is Kenny’s mother and operates the town diner and supply depot. Her gentle but firm spirit may be necessary to keep the peace as unexpected events cause the residents of this nightmare town to start to fraction.

AVERY KONRAD – “Sara”

Sara is a true wildcard among the town’s residents: some think her mind was simply fractured by the nightmare of the town; others wonder if, in her madness, Sara is closer to the secrets of this place than anyone else.
