NEW YORK, NY, June 21, 2022 – AMC Networks today announced that it has ordered a second season of the Western noir crime thriller Dark Winds. Produced by AMC Studios, the six-episode second season will arrive on AMC+ and AMC next year. The season one premiere on June 12 attracted an audience of 2.2 million viewers on AMC in Nielsen live+3 ratings, becoming the #5 cable drama premiere of the current broadcast TV season. Dark Winds is also the #1 new series launch in AMC+ history. The series has a 100-point score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Set in 1971 on a remote outpost of the Navajo Nation near Monument Valley, Dark Winds follows Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn of the Tribal Police as he is besieged by a series of seemingly unrelated crimes. The closer he digs to the truth, the more he exposes the wounds of his past. He is joined on this journey by his new deputy, Jim Chee. Chee, too, has old scores to settle from his youth on the reservation. Together, the two men battle the forces of evil, each other and their own personal demons on the path to salvation. The series is based on the iconic Leaphorn & Chee book series by Tony Hillerman.

Created and executive produced by Graham Roland (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, The Returned, Almost Human, Fringe), the series stars McClarnon (The Son, Westworld, Fargo), who is also an executive producer, Kiowa Gordon (The Red Road, Roswell, New Mexico) and Jessica Matten (Tribal, The Empty Man, Frontier). Executive producers are Robert Redford, George R.R. Martin, Anne Hillerman, Chris Eyre, Vince Calandra, Vince Gerardis and Tina Elmo.

Dark Winds as a television series has been a project 35 years in the making. Robert Redford optioned Hillerman’s book collection more than three decades ago, and the series, whose first season focuses primarily on the book The Listening Woman, with elements of People of Darkness, found a home on AMC+ and AMC. The production worked closely with the Navajo Nation. With special permission, 70% of Dark Winds was filmed on tribal lands at Tesuque Pueblo in New Mexico, using their facility Camel Rock Studios. Another 30% of the series was filmed on tribal lands at Cochiti Pueblo, also in New Mexico.

In this long-running New Zealand procedural, DSS Mike Shepherd (Neill Rea, Go Girls) and DC Kristin Simms (Fern Sutherland, The Almighty Johnsons) return to uncover more macabre goings on in the seemingly quiet, little, fictitious country town of Brokenwood– population 4,900 and steadily declining, depending on the murder rate that week. Beneath the town’s peaceful veneer are buried secrets and treacherous lies as the duo, along with the police team, investigate dangerous rivalries and lethal grudges that erupt into gruesome crimes. Can he learn to accept that his ex-wife, criminal technician Marianne (Laura Drasbæk), is in a relationship with Flemming (André Babikian), who besides being his police-partner, is also his best friend?

Season 2 Binge Premieres Monday, July 18

Catherine “Cathy” Walcott (Ellie White, The Windsors) and Catherine “Cat” Walcott (Lauren Socha, Misfits) discovered the other one existed after their Dad died at his surprise birthday party. Finally coming to terms with the fact they are sisters, this second season kicks off with them reeling from the news they also have a secret brother, Callum (Christopher Jeffers, Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga)—who Cathy had just made out with. As Cathy struggles with the ethics of fancying a sibling, Cat is determined to welcome Callum to the family, while Callum isn’t sure what family means any more. Cat’s mother, Marilyn (Siobhan Finneran, Happy Valley), is furious to learn she wasn’t Colin’s only mistress and sets about tracking down his other secret lover Angela (Michele Austin, This Is Going To Hurt), starting a chain of events that nobody expects. AMC & AMC+ RELEASE TRAILER AND KEY ART FOR NOIR THRILLER, DARK WINDS

SERIES BASED ON THE ICONIC LEAPHORN AND CHEE BOOKS WILL DEBUT JUNE 12 ON AMC AND AMC+

New York, NY – April 18, 2022 – AMC and AMC+ today released the trailer and key art of its upcoming original series, Dark Winds. The noir thriller, based on the iconic Leaphorn & Chee book series by Tony Hillerman, premieres Sunday, June 12 on AMC and AMC+ with two episodes. One new episode will debut every Sunday on AMC, and AMC+ subscribers will have advance access to an additional episode each week, beginning June 19.

Set in 1971 on a remote outpost of the Navajo Nation near Monument Valley, Dark Winds follows Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon, The Son, Westworld, Fargo) of the Tribal Police as he is besieged by a series of seemingly unrelated crimes. The closer he digs to the truth, the more he exposes the wounds of his past. He is joined on this journey by his new deputy, Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon, The Red Road, Roswell, New Mexico). Chee, too, has old scores to settle from his youth on the reservation. Together, the two men battle the forces of evil, each other and their own personal demons on the path to salvation.

Created and executive produced by Graham Roland (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan), the AMC original series stars award-winning film and television actor Zahn McClarnon, who also serves as an executive producer, Kiowa Gordon and Jessica Matten (Tribal, Burden of Truth) as Bernadette Manuelito. Dark Winds also stars Noah Emmerich (The Americans, Suspicion) as FBI Special Agent Whitover, Deanna Allison as Joe’s wife Emma Leaphorn, and features Rainn Wilson (The Office, Backstrom) as Devoted Dan, a full-of-faith car salesman.

Vince Calandra (Castle Rock, Sharp Objects) is showrunner and executive producer. Chris Eyre is director and executive producer. Executive producers include George R.R. Martin, Robert Redford, Tina Elmo and Vince Gerardis.

Western Noir Thriller from Graham Roland, Produced by AMC Studios, Follows Two Navajo Tribal Police Officers in 1971 on the Hunt for the Perpetrators of Multiple, Yet Seemingly Disconnected Crimes
NEW YORK, NY, July 9, 2021 – AMC Networks today announced that it has greenlit a new AMC Studios series called Dark Winds for AMC+ and AMC. Created and executive produced by Graham Roland (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, The Returned, Almost Human, Fringe), the series stars Zahn McClarnon (The Son, Westworld, Fargo), who is also an executive producer, and Kiowa Gordon (The Red Road, Roswell, New Mexico). Vince Calandra (Castle Rock, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, Sharp Objects) is showrunner and also an executive producer. Chris Eyre will direct the pilot and executive produce. Executive producers include George R.R. Martin, Robert Redford, Tina Elmo and Vince Gerardis.

Based on the iconic Leaphorn & Chee book series by Tony Hillerman, Dark Winds is a psychological thriller that follows two Navajo police officers in the 1970s Southwest, as their search for clues in a grisly double murder case forces them to challenge their own spiritual beliefs and come to terms with the trauma of their pasts. Season one will include six episodes and is expected to premiere on AMC+ and AMC in 2022.
