Upcoming DVD Releases

COMING ON (FRIDAY) 9/30:
• Wiseguy – The Collector’s Edition (VEI)
$59.99 SRP Blu-ray

—–Long before Donnie Brasco brought similar drama to the big screen, Golden Globe winner Ken Wahl brought charisma, credibility, and chutzpah to his small-screen role as Vincent Terranova, a handsome 30-year-old agent with the FBI’s Organized Crime Bureau. How does a deep-cover operative keep his sanity and morality intact when the criminal lifestyle he’s sworn to bring down from within is more compelling than his own? Federal Agent Vincent Terranova (Ken Wahl) is plagued by this question in this innovative take on 80s cop dramas. Created by veteran hit producer Stephen J. Cannell, Wiseguy veers from traditional ‘bad guy of the week’ police procedural by breaking the drama into multi-episode story arcs that followed an Organized Crimes Bureau case – and its charismatic criminal suspects – to its logical conclusion. No matter the cost to criminal, victim, or cop. GUEST STARRING: Jonathan Banks, Kevin Spacey, Ray Sharkey, Joan Severance, Fred Thompson, Jerry Lewis, Stanley Tucci, David Strathairn, Billy Dee Williams, and Steven Bauer. All 75 episodes from all 4 seasons, including the “Dead Dog Records” episodes!
NOTE: the DVD version of this title was released by VEI in July of this year. There were many questions from fans (and from us!) about whether the original broadcast music would be restored, as much of it was missing from the previous DVD sets of Wiseguy. Our thanks to reader Peter DiGiovanni, who purchased the DVD set from VEI and reported on our Facebook page that “I purchased the set and immediately put on the No One Here Gets Out Alive episode and NOPE no original music whatsoever, elevator music in place of Knights in White Satin, and to make matters worse…there’s even MORE music cut than before, Ray Sharkey’s rendition of Good Lovin is completely cut from this new release, but somehow was intact in the original Studio Works edition”; due to this report, we are asking you to be aware that the Blu-ray version from VEI will very likely have the same situation as VEI’s version on DVD.

Years later, when Adams learns that his young daughter is in trouble, he returns to civilization and is captured by Frank Briggs (CHUCK CONNORS, The Rifleman), a corrupt man determined to see Adams pay for the alleged crime. After a miraculous recovery from his encounter with Bloodsport, Peacemaker soon discovers that his freedom comes at a cost, when he’s requisitioned by Clemson Murn and joined by his handler, Emilia Harcourt, tech and tactics John Economos, and new recruit Leota Adebayo for an off-the-books mission, codename: Project Butterfly. The CW Renews “All American: Homecoming,” Cancels Seven Series

The CW Renews “All American: Homecoming,” Cancels Seven Series
By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)
LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) — The CW has renewed “All American: Homecoming” for a second season while a whopping seven series received the axe, according to this afternoon’s trade publication reports (click on a show for the specific story).

Not making the cut are newcomers “4400” and “Naomi”; veterans “Charmed”, “Dynasty” and “Legacies”; as well as “Roswell, New Mexico” and “In the Dark”, both of which will now launch their de facto final seasons on June 6.

The news completes the network’s major scripted decisions for the 2022-23 season.

The CW made the bulk of its renewals in March with “All American,” “The Flash,” “Kung Fu,” “Nancy Drew,” “Riverdale,” “Superman & Lois” and “Walker.”

Last month the network canceled veterans “Batwoman” and “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” while “Supergirl” and “The Outpost” both signed off last year.

Among those still to be determined: the fate of “DC’s Stargirl,” whose third season is due this summer; the yet-to-premiere “Tom Swift”; and acquistions “Dead Pixels” and “Two Sentence Horror Stories.”

—–Five warned his family (so, so many times) that using his powers to escape from Vanya’s 2019 apocalypse was risky. Well, he was right: the time jump scatters the siblings in time in and around Dallas, Texas. Over a three-year period. Starting in 1960. Some, having been stuck in the past for years, have built lives and moved on, certain they’re the only ones who survived. Five is the last to land…smack dab in the middle of a nuclear doomsday, which – spoiler alert! – turns out is a result of the group’s disruption of the timeline (déjà vu, anyone?). Now the Umbrella Academy must find a way to reunite, figure out what caused doomsday, put a stop to it, and return to the present timeline to stop that other apocalypse. All while being hunted by a trio of ruthless Swedish assassins. But seriously, no pressure or anything! 3-disc set.

—–The sixth season of “Outlander” sees a continuation of Claire and Jamie’s fight to protect those they love, as they navigate the trials and tribulations of life in colonial America. Establishing a home in the New World is by no means an easy task, particularly in the wild backcountry of North Carolina – and perhaps most significantly – during a period of dramatic political upheaval. The Frasers strive to maintain peace and flourish within a society which – as Claire knows all too well – is unwittingly marching towards Revolution. Against this backdrop, which heralds the birth of the new American nation, Claire and Jamie have built a home together at Fraser’s Ridge. They must now defend this home – established on land granted to them by the Crown – not only from external forces, but also from the increasing strife and conflict in the community within their care. For the Frasers and their immediate family, “home” is more than simply a site in which they live: it is the place where they are laying the foundations for the rest of their lives.
