New York, New York, April 20, 2021 — YouTube today announced a new slate of original projects and partnerships, collectively aiming to use the power of storytelling to educate users on the biggest sustainability challenges the world faces and a variety of solutions that can be adopted to inspire change. This is part of Google’s third decade of climate action (the first major company to be carbon-neutral since 2007), which will see Google fully power their operations with carbon-free energy 24/7 by 2030.

The YouTube Originals sustainability slate includes “Seat at the Table,” where a meeting with David Attenborough sends creator Jack Harries on a global challenge to give people around the world a seat at the table in the climate conversation ahead of COP 26, the United Nations Climate Change Conference, and “Stay Wild” (working title) where Brave Wilderness in partnership with Leonardo diCaprio’s Appian Way and Madica Productions will transport viewers directly to the front lines of nature where the effects of climate change can be witnessed first-hand by their impact on wildlife and humanity.

Google’s larger sustainability pledge also includes a focus on enabling partners to reach their climate action goals through funding, technology, and resources, and a promise to leverage their most popular products like search, maps and YouTube, to reach one billion people and help them make sustainable choices in their daily lives.

From YouTube’s Brave Wilderness and Leonardo diCaprio’s Appian Way and Madica Productions, “Stay Wild” (w/t) will explore Earth’s critically endangered environments through a series of immersive adventures with Mark Vins. In his first expedition, Vins will hack through the treacherous, sloping rainforest of Rwanda in an attempt to find the last of the wild mountain gorillas. · Global Citizen Partnership – Sustainability event premieres on September 25

As part of a multi-pronged partnership, YouTube and Global Citizen have come together on two main events in 2021 that will live on YouTube. As part of the company’s sustainability efforts, YouTube and Global Citizen will partner to promote Global Citizen LIVE, a multi-hour global event that will feature performances from all over the world, including: Lagos, New York City, Paris, Seoul and Sydney. Centered around achieving Global Citizen’s Recovery Plan for the World, including commitments from both organizations to protect the planet, Global Citizen LIVE will take place on September 25, 2021. In order to protect the planet, the world must commit to net-zero emissions by 2050 with 2030 interim targets to decelerate unprecedented rising temperatures. Global Citizen and YouTube will lock arms to ask changemakers around the world to do their part to help build a more sustainable world.

And as previously announced, to overcome COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy, ensure equitable distribution around the world, and celebrate a hopeful future as families and communities reunite after receiving the COVID-19 vaccine, YouTube will join Global Citizen to promote a global broadcast and streaming special that aims to help end the coronavirus pandemic for everyone, everywhere. The event will take place on May 8th live on YouTube.

· TED Countdown Partnership:

Building on a successful partnership in 2020, YouTube will continue its work with TED on Countdown, a global initiative to champion and accelerate solutions to the climate crisis. In 2020, YouTube supported the Countdown Global Launch event, a 6-hour livestream featuring 5 sessions of climate talks, interviews, and performances from scientists, business leaders, government officials, artists, and musicians. This year, YouTube will continue to develop this partnership with significant engagement at the Countdown Summit taking place October 12-15, 2021. “Humans of Earth Day” Campaign includes:

During the special, Global Citizen will call on philanthropists and corporations to donate enough “dollars-for-doses” to vaccinate more than 27 million heroic health workers that are serving on the global frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic every day. The special will also encourage global development advocates and changemakers to call on world leaders to prioritize the equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines for everyone, everywhere.

“VAX LIVE: The Concert to Reunite the World” will be pre-taped at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. Airing and live streaming on Saturday, May 8, on ABC, ABC News Live, CBS, YouTube, iHeartMedia broadcast radio stations and the iHeartRadio App, “VAX LIVE” will start at 8:00 p.m. EDT/7:00 p.m. CDT. The concert will also air on FOX at 11:00 p.m. EDT/PDT. To achieve global vaccine access and confidence, “VAX LIVE: The Concert to Reunite the World” aims to do the following:

· Call on philanthropists and corporations to donate enough “dollars-for-doses” to help vaccinate the more than 27 million heroic health workers that are on the front lines, in the poorest countries that need access to vaccines most;

The Hollywood Park vaccination site, which has been designated to serve public and private school teachers, administrators and Los Angeles County staff, leverages technology and data systems to register individuals, schedule vaccination appointments and share the data with appropriate local health authorities. A collaboration between Los Angeles Unified, the Los Angeles Rams and Hollywood Park, the vaccination site serves as another critical step to keep citizens safe and healthy in the fight against COVID-19.

This 6-part documentary series from Emmy-winning Main Event Media (United Shades of America with W. Kamau Bell), an All3Media America company, and Five All in the Fifth Entertainment (LANCE), premiered September 2020 in partnership with Glamour, and explores what it takes to be an Elite gymnast, through the voices of its greatest champions.

How do gymnasts maintain their mental toughness and laser focus while contending with all the external pressures placed upon them? And in an era of difficulty-dominant scoring, how do athletes stay unafraid of their own power? The documentary series examines these sport-specific subjects, while going in-depth on the broader themes of self-expression and resilience.

In addition, the series does not shy away from the darker aspects of the sport, showing how gymnasts overcome body image issues, ageism, and abuse. Episode 5 of the series features survivors describing the sport’s culture of abuse and explaining how they’re using their voices and the life skills that gymnastics taught them to reclaim their beloved sport.

YouTube Originals unveiled the official trailer for season two of the Emmy-nominated series “Glad You Asked.” The episodic series from Vox and Vox Media Studios will premiere five episodes for free weekly beginning Tuesday, March 30th on the Vox YouTube channel, with additional topical episodes premiering later this year.

“Glad You Asked” is an ensemble-led exploration of topics driven by our curiosity about the world around us. Using Vox’s signature explainer format, the second season examines incredibly timely questions around racial justice and the impact of systemic racism in our communities and daily lives. This season explores topics including implicit bias, how our neighborhoods determine our futures, race and A.I., education inequity and the impact of racism on our bodies.

This season features new perspectives from five inquisitive hosts and the world’s foremost experts to offer an experiential journey that will empower audiences to better understand their world – from exploring the roots of residential segregation to playing hand crafted board games and taking tests that measure racial implicit biases. Joining season two is Vox’s lead race reporter, Fabiola Cineas, and the host and producer of the VICE documentary series Minority Reports, Lee Adams. They will unite with season one hosts Cleo Abram, Christophe Haubursin and Joss Fong to explore these critical questions while demonstrating various social experiments across the season.
