Samantha Bee, Jameela Jamil, Judy Reyes, Kristen Kish and Brandi Rhodes Lend Their Voices to Poignant Issues Women Face in Animated Features

LOS ANGELES – March 8, 2021 – TNT, TBS and truTV celebrate International Women’s Day to bring awareness to women’s issues by making the unseen more visible through an empowerment initiative that shines a light on the biases women face every day.

Powered by an all-female-crew, internally and externally, all three networks came together with Black Woman Animate, an animation studio powered by Black female talent across the animation pipeline, to create five animated pieces that spotlight powerful issues such as the gender pay gap, body liberation and self-confidence.

All five animated features can be seen here: warnermedia.com/IWD2021.

“After learning the extent that women have been set back in the workforce due to the pandemic, we wanted to bring to light these issues in a creative and impactful way,” said Missy Chambless, EVP of Marketing for TNT, TBS and truTV. “We invited strong female icons across our networks to give voice to these critical issues of women’s equality, and partnered with Black Women Animate to vibrantly bring them to life.”

TNT, TBS and truTV talent Samantha Bee (“Full Frontal with Samantha Bee”), Jameela Jamil (“The Misery Index”), Judy Reyes (“Claws”), Kristen Kish (“Fast Foodies”) and Brandi Rhodes (AEW) have lent their voices to topics that are all too relatable for most women. These pieces strive to uplift the unseen, spark conversation, and inspire change.

Each animated segment was created and produced by Black Woman Animate, April Dace of Dace & Mohr, Alison Roberto, Liz Armstrong and Polina Portnaya.

Everyone Wants a Bar Where Everybody Knows Your Name, So Why Not Build It Yourself?

truTV Greenlights “Backyard Bar Wars,” a Hilarious Send-Up of the Classic DIY Competition Series Hosted by Comedian Chris Distefano
Los Angeles (February 23, 2021) – truTV announced today that it has greenlit “Backyard Bar Wars,” a new home reno series with a comedic spin – each episode pits two neighbors against each other in the ultimate backyard build-off to see who can create the buzziest at-home bar on the block. Hosted by self-described “unhandy-man” comedian Chris Distefano, the 10-episode half-hour competition series from 44 Blue Productions, a Red Arrow Studios company, will be filmed in and around Los Angeles and will premiere in July 2021.

Said Corie Henson, EVP/Head of Unscripted Development, TNT, TBS, truTV: “It’s not what you drink, it’s where you drink it and who you’re drinking with. ‘Backyard Bar Wars’ is an ambitious twist on your favorite neighborhood bar, and a custom bar in your own backyard is one of the coolest and most creative prizes ever.”

Said series host, Chris Distefano: “I’m so excited to be a part of this show; it was a blast shooting the pilot and I can’t wait to get out there and get drunk and build stuff. Hope this show has insurance! Finally, I can show my girlfriend and my father that I am a real man! I am Chrissy the Tool!”

“Backyard Bar Wars” is not your average build show. Based on the rising trend of DIY at-home bars, “Backyard Bar Wars” is a send-up of the classic home reno show combined with hilarious moments of comedian and host, Chris Distefano, roasting the builders in a way that only he can. The one thing that’s not a joke are the bars themselves – viewers can expect jaw-dropping reveals that will leave everyone watching thirsty for a second round.

“Backyard Bar Wars” is executive produced by Stephanie Noonan Drachkovitch, David Hale and Dan Snook of 44 Blue Productions, a Red Arrow Studios company, for truTV. The showrunner is Reno Camozzi. Chris Distefano is represented by Rick Dorfman, Authentic Talent and Literary Management, UTA and Cohen Gardner Law.

WarnerMedia Inks First-Look Deal with the Stars of truTV’s Breakout Hit, “Impractical Jokers”

WarnerMedia Inks First-Look Deal with the Stars of truTV’s Breakout Hit, “Impractical Jokers”

“Impractical Jokers” Receives Early 10th Season Renewal Ahead of Ninth Season Premiere on February 4 on truTV

LOS ANGELES (February 4, 2021) – WarnerMedia announced today that the company has locked a first-look deal with the stars of truTV’s highest rated franchise, “Impractical Jokers.” As part of the agreement, Joe Gatto, James “Murr” Murray, Brian “Q” Quinn and Sal Vulcano, collectively known as the comedy troupe The Tenderloins, will develop and produce original unscripted and scripted programming for TNT, TBS and truTV as well as HBO Max. Currently ranked as cable’s #1 unscripted comedy in 2020, “Impractical Jokers” has been renewed by truTV for a tenth season ahead of its ninth season premiere on Thursday, February 4 at 10:00p.m. ET/PT.

Brett Weitz, General Manager, TBS, TNT and truTV said: “From the very first dinner I had with Joe, James, Brian and Sal, I knew I loved spending time with them, and that our audiences would as well. And here we are, greenlighting a tenth season. We’re proud to be the home, where the guys can continue to flex their creative muscles, continue to evolve their comedy and build new IP that we can introduce into the larger WarnerMedia family.”

Corie Henson, EVP/Head of Unscripted Development, TNT, TBS, truTV added: “The guys had a hit movie and three wildly successful shows with ‘Impractical Jokers,’ ‘Dinner Party’ and ‘Misery Index’… and that was all in 2020 alone. They are prolific and have a ton of ideas about how to turn more hits into an even bigger brand. We have three networks, so we’re going to get out of their way, and give them the support and the biggest platform to do just that.”

“For over a decade, truTV has been our home and we couldn’t be happier to continue crashing on the company couch,” said The Tenderloins. “We absolutely love making ‘Impractical Jokers’ and a big part of that is the support that WarnerMedia gives to us and our crazy ideas. To continue making ‘Jokers’ while being given the opportunity to develop and produce other content for our beloved fans is a dream come true. That’s not hyperbole. We’re grateful and excited to an insane degree.”

The Tenderloins are represented by Jack Rovner and Dexter Scott of Vector Management, Martin Lesak, Jason Heyman & Nick Nuciforo of UTA and Danny Passman of Gang, Tyre, Ramer, Brown & Passman.

The T-nets continue to expand on the strength of the “Impractical Jokers” franchise across the company’s cable and streaming platforms. The lineup of programming featuring Gatto, Murray, Quinn and Vulcano includes “Impractical Jokers,” “Impractical Jokers: After Party,” and “Impractical Jokers: Dinner Party” for truTV; “The Misery Index” for TBSâ and “Impractical Jokers: The Movie” currently steaming on HBO Maxâ.

The ninth season of truTV’s tentpole series “Impractical Jokers,” premieres on February 4th at 10:00p.m. ET/PT. The series is a ratings juggernaut that consistently achieves a top cable comedy ranking and is currently cable’s #1 unscripted comedy in 2020. This season, the guys get more personal than ever before. From colorfully redecorating one Joker’s private property to forcing another to make food deliveries in the car from hell, boundaries will be hilariously over-stepped, and personal space will be memorably invaded.
The third season of “The Misery Index” kicks off January 26th at 10:30p.m. ET/PT on TBS. Inspired by the card game Sh*t Happens, the series features teams competing against each other my attempting to rate hilarious and miserable real-life events based on the “misery index” – a ranking system created by a team of therapists. Jameela Jamil stars as the host with Gatto, Murray, Quinn and Vulcano as recurring panelists.
Cable’s #1 new unscripted comedy series “Impractical Jokers: Dinner Party” followed Gatto, Murray, Quinn, and Vulcano as they safely, and hilariously, joined each other for dinner from their respective homes. The remotely shot, 16-episode season for truTV featured the long-time friends breaking bread and dishing about their week, joined by dinner guests including Jeff Daniels, Edie Falco, Wayne Brady, Mariano Rivera, Paula Abdul, Kane Hodder, Colin Jost, and DJ Marshmello, among others.
Last year, truTV’s first feature-length film “Impractical Jokers: The Movie” opened to 2.6 million across 357 theaters and expanded in its second week to nearly 1,900 theaters across the United States. The film follows the four lifelong friends and comedians in a fictional story of a humiliating high school mishap from the early nineties. Featuring appearances from Paula Abdul, Jaden Smith, and Joey Fatone, the movie combines the fictional narrative with real-life footage of over-the-top punishments and callbacks to classic moments from the series.
Coming Soon: A new season of “Impractical Jokers: After Party” follows host Joey Fatone as he takes the cast of the “Impractical Jokers” and surprise guests through a deep dive of challenges, special play-by-play punishment analysis, and bonus content.
The complete “Impractical Jokers” catalogue is currently available for viewers to stream on HBO Max.
