NEWARK, NJ – June 16, 2020 – Audible, Inc., the world’s largest producer and provider of spoken-word entertainment and audiobooks, today announced a robust programming slate of new scripted Audible Originals, set to debut this summer. Featuring award-winning casts, the summer lineup of scripted, entertaining and provocative dramas and comedy series includes the period drama Phreaks, the original novella Yard Work, the dark comedy Eat Sh*t Kenny Daniels, and the comedy Vroom Vroom. These new series join Audible’s expanding slate of original scripted podcasts, including Escape from Virtual Island (Paul Rudd, Jack McBrayer, Paula Pell, Amber Ruffin), Cut & Run (Meg Ryan, D’Arcy Carden, Sam Richardson), Heads Will Roll (Kate McKinnon, Emily Lynne) and 64th Man (John Cena, Anna Chlumsky, Jane Curtin), among others.

“We strive to take the art of audio storytelling to the next level with all Audible Originals,” said David Blum, editor-in-chief of Audible Originals. “Each of these projects feature narratives written and performed to create intimate and unique listening experiences, and showcase an extraordinary roster of talented performers and artists.” He added: “We are proud to introduce these new programs to our listeners, and add them to Audible’s growing library of scripted series that offer listeners the premium content they’ve come to expect.”

Phreaks, produced by Audible and Shortbits, is a moving and suspenseful period drama about a group of fledgling phone hackers in the ‘70s who figure out how to crack the global telephone network and forge the first virtual community. The audio drama, written by Matt Derby (Sandra), centers on true techniques used by thousands of industrious hackers across the globe in the ‘70s. The 10-part scripted original stars Golden Globe winner Christian Slater (Mr. Robot, True Romance), Carrie Coon (The Avengers, The Leftovers, Ghostbusters: Afterlife), Ben McKenzie (Southland., Gotham), Justice Smith (The Get Down, Detective Pikachu) and up-and-coming actress Bree Klauser (See), in the starring role of Emma Gable, an isolated blind teen who stumbles into the underground Phreak culture while exploring the vast network owned and operated by Bell Telephone.

Christian Slater commented: “I’m excited to share this story with Audible’s listeners and transport them to a time that changed the way we think about and use technology today.”

Yard Work, starring Golden-Globe winning actor Kevin Bacon (Apollo 13, City on a Hill, Patriots Day) is a new scripted original novella from renowned screenwriter David Koepp (War of the Worlds, Mission: Impossible, Spider-Man, Jurassic Park). Yard Work, Koepp’s first work of short fiction, follows an elderly judge, reeling from the death of his wife of 50-plus-years. Against his children’s wishes, the judge decides to live out the rest of his years at the lake house where he and his wife spent their happiest times. Shortly after arriving, the judge notices a vine aggressively growing on what was once the couple’s favorite tree. Quickly, it spreads into the house, onto his body, and eventually into his bloodstream. After taking several gruesome measures to fight off the vine, it becomes clear the vine has taken on a life of its own – and threatens to end his.

David Koepp commented: “I hadn’t realized that for the thirty years I’ve been a screenwriter, I’d never been able to describe what a character was actually thinking or feeling — only what they said and did. I love movie writing, but it’s such a joy to write prose and bring the focus back to the words in my Audible debut. And to have my friend and colleague Kevin Bacon bring life and soul to them is an honor and delight.”

Eat Sh*t Kenny Daniels, starring Alicia Silverstone (American Woman), follows an aspiring, amateur podcast host who goes on an ill-advised journey to investigate and learn from an unexamined moment from her life 18 years ago. One woman’s quest for redemption from a former high school classmate she wronged starts as a self-indulgent dead-end but quickly turns into a strange, darkly comedic murder mystery that unravels her whole life as she knew it. Produced by Audible and Propagate’s Big Breakfast, Eat Sh*t Kenny Daniels is created by Tony Wilson, Luke Kelly-Clyne and Susanna Wolff, and written by Wolff (also director), Zach Broussard and Kerry McGuire. Rounding out the cast are Broussard, McGuire, Zac Oyama, Mike Trapp, Owen Robinson (Adam Ruins Everything), Avery Monsen (High Maintenance), Katie Marovitch, Emily Axford (Hot Date), Brian Murphy (Hot Date), Pam Murphy, Blake Rosier, Rekha Shankar, Josh Ruben, Ellie Race-More, and Elaine Carroll.

Alicia Silverstone said: “I’m excited to be a part of Audible’s growing originals library. Voicing this series was JUST TOO MUCH fun and not just because I got to wear sweatpants.”

Vroom Vroom, produced by Audible and Studio71, is a scripted comedy about the high-speed pursuit of the American dream, is written by award-winning playwright and screenwriter Josh Koenigsberg (High Fidelity, Orange is the New Black) and stars Andy Richter (Conan), Yvette Nicole Brown (Community), John DiMaggio (Adventure Time, Futurama), Rick Gonzalez (Arrow), Lucy DeVito (Deadbeat), Mic Daily (Accepted) and Azhar Khan (Mr. Robot). When a used Ford dealership in upstate New York finds out its local rival, Wild Ron, is trying to put it out of business, the dealership has one week to band together to keep its business alive. Vroom Vroom is produced in collaboration with Studio71.

Yvette Nicole Brown expressed: “I’m honored to be a part of the voice cast for ‘Vroom Vroom’! I just hope they think of me when it is inevitably turned into a hit sitcom! All the comedy pieces are there! Folks are gonna love the time they spend with the employees of Gallea Motors!”

New Half-Hour Courtroom Show Available May 25 to stream and on demand on Prime Video, iTunes, Google Play, Xbox, and VUDU

Judge Busey to Adjudicate Court Cases Involving Pets

“Being a judge that allows justice for pets is a dream come true for me and animals everywhere. Pet justice is a justice we’ve all been waiting for.” – Gary Busey

NEW YORK, NY – Each year across the country there are thousands of pet disputes. Those who want their cases tried by the best know there is only one man they can turn to, and he is thirsty for PET JUSTICE! That man- Gary Busey: Pet Judge.

The six-episode season will be available on Prime Video and and for digital purchase, and will be entirely binge-able on May 25, 2020.

The series stars Judge Gary Busey as he presides over the fates of litigant pet owners. Each half-hour show presents two cases with a veritable menagerie of animals including monkeys, goats, birds, dogs, meerkats, turtles, robot raccoons, and more. Is Gary Busey a real judge? Absolutely not. Does he know anything about pet law? Probably not. Can he look into your soul and suss out your spirit animal while delivering a verdict with a trademark Buseyism? You bet your sweet ass (the donkey kind).

The shows will feature plaintiffs and defendants locked in heated battle and mild confusion as they fight for the future of their pets. Judge Busey is aided in his job by Mike E. Winfield who shines as the helpful and encouraging voice-of-reason bailiff, Ian Abramson who caps each case with thought-provoking exit interviews, and Shadoe Stevens who lends dulcet gravitas to the entire venture.

You may think you are ready for this but we guarantee you are not. He puts the kangaroo in kangaroo court- it’s Gary Busey: Pet Judge!

Gary Busey has been preparing for this job his entire life. Sure, he starred in Point Break and Lethal Weapon, but did any of his blockbuster films require him to determine whether a cat should have a Viking funeral? Not until now and he is about to dish out some serious PET JUSTICE.

“At the film’s center is this surprisingly tender story of sacrifice and motherly love… Andrew Morgan’s gut-wrenching drama Long Gone By is another production with its heart in the right place and its mind on the struggles of undocumented people trying to survive in a system built to keep them excluded.” -Remezcla

“Andrew Morgan and his talented cast may help you reclaim some part of your soul in this film.” -Film Threat

“Long Gone By is the kind of film that happens to arrive at the right place and right time.” -Premo Network

New York, NY – April 28, 2020 – HBO is poised to premiere the feature film LONG GONE BY, starring Erica Muñoz who is also the associate producer, directed by Andrew Morgan and produced by Emily Morgan. The film will air on HBO Latino linear channel at 8pm, Friday May 1, 2020, and on digital platforms, HBO NOW, HBO On Demand and HBO GO.

Origianally premiered at HBO’s New York Latino Film Festival last summer, LONG GONE BY, tells the tale of Ana Alvarez, a single mother from Nicaragua living in Warsaw, Indiana with her teenage daughter, Izzy. When a routine check in leads to a deportation order, life as Ana knows it ends. The timing could not be worse as Izzy has just been accepted to Indiana University, a dream that becomes a nightmare when she discovers that because of her immigration status she will not qualify for the needed scholarships or federal aid. Faced with an impossible reality of a lifetime away from her daughter, Ana decides to risk everything in a last chance effort to leave Izzy’s tuition paid before her time runs out. An intimately unnerving portrait of a woman willing to sacrifice everything to give her daughter the chance at a life she never had.

Said director, Andrew Morgan, “There is nothing in my life that comes close to relating to what we witness Ana and Izzy go through in this film. The prospect of facing a lifetime away from my children is a nightmare I have never had to imagine. For me that reality, as I listened to the stories of families being torn apart gave me the motivation to do something in my own way to shine a light on these issues and ideas.” Said lead Erica Muñoz, “I’ve seen people forced into impossible situations. Parents having to make unthinkable decisions in order to try to give their children a better life. Since we shot the film, the horrors are only amplified.” These issues are what drove the cast and crew to create LONG GONE BY, and the effect of the film is palpable.

The film was set and shot on location in Warsaw, Indiana. Morgan wanted to portray the classic small town America through the eyes of an outsider. He said “I absolutely loved working there, the entire community was so helpful and it gave the film a look and feel that I really love.”

“Andrew is focused, driven, kind, incredibly patient, and ridiculously talented. Working with him was, without question, the most rewarding professional experience of my life,” said lead and Associate Producer, Erica Muñoz. “The rest of the team – in particular, Emily Morgan, his wife and producing partner, created an environment where everyone felt so supported in every conceivable way.”

The filmmakers responsible for LONG GONE BY are very excited to be premiering at the 16th year of HBO’s New York Latino Film Festival. Muñoz has been following the festival since its inception. She says “the spotlight on Latinx creatives has created opportunities for so many filmmakers like myself. It’s by passing the gate keepers and opening the door for unknown talent to be seen.”

LONG GONE BY premieres at May 1, 2020 on HBO Latino as well as digital platforms HBO NOW, HBO On Demand and HBO GO.

Director’s Statement from Andrew Morgan:
“No storyline has continued to haunt me over the last few years like the one surrounding immigrant families in this country. As I got the chance to spend time with some of these families and hear first hand about the fear that overshadows their lives, I knew I wanted to find a way to tell a story set against this backdrop that opened up space for more conversation, humanity and love.

When we look back at this moment years from now, I believe the struggle facing immigrant families in this country will be one of most defining challenges of our time. But for millions of people this is not about history it is about their story. There are roughly eleven million undocumented immigrants currently living in the US. Two-thirds have lived in this country for more than a decade and have fled countless cases of corruption and violence in search of basic opportunity for their families.

While dramatized in the film, Ana’s story is one that encapsulates the dream turned nightmare facing so many immigrants today. The story serves to humanize her struggle and in so doing asks larger questions about what kind of a society we are choosing to create. One in which our common values of hard work, family and increased opportunity for all give way to a more narrow American story in which far too many people are forced to make impossible choices for those they love.

One of the things I love most about film is that it can open a space for us to think and feel more deeply. It gives us the opportunity to encounter things we thought we understood in a whole new way. In spending time with these characters, I have come to see their story as both foreign and familiar to us all. It is a story about struggle, sacrifice, family, and what is at stake when the laws regarding the outsider threaten to betray our truest values.”

About Andrew Morgan (Director):
Andrew Morgan is an internationally recognized filmmaker focused on telling stories for a better tomorrow. His experience includes a broad range of work spanning narrative and documentary storytelling for multiple film and new media projects that have been filmed and released all over the world. The New York Times described his unique style as “gentle, humane investigations,” and Vogue Magazine wrote that it is “evidence that each of us can act as a catalyst for change within our own lives and work together towards a greater good.” He lives in LA with his wife Emily, their four children and a dog named Lady.

Erica Muñoz is an actress and producer known for her roles in the the Pulitzer Prize winning Broadway musical, RENT, Grey’s Anatomy, Numb3ers, & Jericho. EDDIE PEPITONE FOR THE MASSES

EDDIE PEPITONE FOR THE MASSES

Hour Comedy Special and Audio Album Out June 23, 2020 on 800 Pound Gorilla Pictures

“Eddie Pepitone is an extraordinary hybrid. The comedic content of George Carlin and the vocal volume of Ethel Merman. Brace yourself.”- Robin Williams

“A comic’s comic and a true American original”- AV Club

“Eddie Pepitone’s comedy is a taste that’s easy to acquire.” – Village Voice

New York, NY- May 27, 2020- Eddie Pepitone is back with a brand new hour of comedy in his June 23 special and album, For The Masses, which will be available almost everywhere comedy is streamed and sold.

They call him the Bitter Buddha, comedian Eddie Pepitone is a master of the dark art of comedy. Brooklyn-Born, but a father-figure to the L.A. alt-comedy scene, Eddie Pepitone is a ranting absurdist and self-deprecating rage machine. Eddie delivers equal rancor to global threats and the tiniest of inconveniences, as exemplified by his bit wherein he satirically berates his on-screen wife for keeping his shirts smelling fresh while the world is crumbling around us. His random non-sequiturs are a refreshing antidote to stand-up’s standard observations, and his vocal volume goes from a low growl to a spitting yell in the span of a single joke. Sweet at his core, he’s developed an onstage character prone to overreactions and a hair-trigger temper. It’s as if he’s suffering from PTSD, with all of pop culture his personal Vietnam.

With a loyal following from his appearances on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast, his recurring role as a heckler in the audience of Late Night with Conan O’Brien, and his 2013 Feature Documentary The Bitter Buddha, learn what comedy fans already know- Eddie Pepitone is a one-of-a kind voice in these times.

Hailed as a modern day cross between Jackie Gleason, Don Rickles and Eckart Tolle. Eddie is a force of nature on stage, switching between social rage and self-doubt. His shows are an energetic combo of calm and chaos, blue-collar angst and sardonic enlightenment. Few comedians working today channel the power of the rant better than Eddie Pepitone.

In addition to his regular stand-up shows, Eddie is a stand-out comic/character actor. He has appeared on numerous comedy TV shows, including It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The Sarah Silverman Program, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Chappelle’s Show, appearances on Bob’s Burgers, and he’s a regular on Adult Swim’s Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell. A Feature Documentary about his life, The Bitter Buddha, was released in theaters and on-demand in 2013. In 2014, his first comedy special In Ruins premiered on Netflix.
Eddie Pepitone can frequently be found on his must-follow Twitter & Instagram, and hosting the popular comedy podcast Pep Talks.

Filmed at the Dynasty Typewriter in Los Angeles, For The Masses was Directed by Steven Feinartz.

About Steven Feinartz:
Steven Feinartz directed the feature documentary, The Bitter Buddha, in 2013. Since then, he’s produced and directed many comedy specials and series for Netflix, Comedy Central, and Showtime; which include Matt Braunger: Big Dumb Animal, SXSW Comedy with Natasha Leggero, and the Comedy Central Series Bill Burr Presents: The Ringers. Tingle Monsters is a short film starring, written and directed by Alexandra Serio. After sweeping the film festival circuit and being screened at Cinequest, Final Girls Berlin and the Cleveland International Film Festival and accepted into Oxford FIlm Festival, FilmQuest, Montclair Film Festival and more, this short film premiered on Omeleto in the Spring of 2020.

The film features an ASMR vlogger with a devoted fan base who returns from an extended absence with a livestream that spirals out of control. Through this context Serio explores her belief that violence against women truly starts with words.

Using the vehicle of an ASMR livestream, Tingle Monsters shows how what people say and think about women affects their real-world treatment. Audiences will witness the consequences of harassment turn dangerous both on-screen and off as her fans, who are watching it unfold from their own screens, comment live.

“I firmly believe that through gender parity and telling women-driven narratives we can begin to change the world. But we must start by taking a sobering look at where we currently are. Tingle Monsters aims to do that.” -Alexandra Serio

The most common form of stalking is unwanted phone calls, text, and internet messages. The unconventional format of the film plays on this. Shot in screenlife format with no extra score or sound design, the film is designed to transport viewers into a scenario they are already familiar with—the harassment of women on the internet—ultimately inviting the audience to examine the link between what we say and think about women and their real-world treatment.

In 2014, Alexandra Serio founded Nameless Network, a production and media company that makes educational content for the smartphone generation. For Tingle Monsters, Serio was heavily inspired by her own experience making female-driven content and seeing the abusive comments that the female hosts received. They were attacked for everything from their voice to the way the looked.

Serio also drew inspiration from an Amanda Hess piece called Why Aren’t Women Welcome on the Internet for Pacific Standard. In the piece, Amanda shares her own experience with online threats of rape, death, and stalking. Says Hess, “None of this makes me exceptional. It just makes me a woman with an Internet connection.”

ABOUT ALEXANDRA SERIO (WRITER/DIRECTOR/ACTOR/PRODUCER):
Alexandra Serio is a Webby-nominated director, writer and producer based in New York City. She is co-founder and chief content officer of Nameless Network, a media and production company that creates video programming for the smart-phone generation. Guerrilla filmmaking and female-driven narratives are her passion. Her latest film “Tingle Monsters” examines the link between internet harassment and physical violence against women.
