Based on Catton’s Man Booker Prize-winning novel of the same name, “The Luminaries” tells an epic story of love, murder and revenge, as men and women travelled across the world to make their fortunes. STARZ ANNOUNCES NEW ORIGINAL DOCUSERIES “CONFRONTING A SERIAL KILLER” FROM EMMY(R)-WINNING FILMMAKER JOE BERLINGER

THE SERIES TELLS THE STORY OF THE UNPRECEDENTED RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN AUTHOR JILLIAN LAUREN AND THE MOST PROLIFIC SERIAL KILLER IN AMERICAN HISTORY SAM LITTLE, AND SHINES A LIGHT ON THE DEVASTATING IMPACT OF RACIAL BIAS AGAINST WOMEN FROM MARGINALIZED COMMUNITIES IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM

SET TO DEBUT THIS SPRING, DOCUSERIES WILL MAKE ITS WORLD PREMIERE AT THE SXSW FILM FESTIVAL IN MARCH

Santa Monica, Calif – January 14, 2021 – Starz announced today a new original docuseries “Confronting a Serial Killer,” executive produced and directed by Oscar(R)-nominated and Emmy(R)-winning filmmaker Joe Berlinger (The Paradise Lost Trilogy, Metallica: Some Kind of Monster, “Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes”) with Po Kutchins (“The Murder of Laci Peterson,” “Prison Town, USA,” “The Circus: Inside the Greatest Political Show on Earth”) serving as showrunner and executive producer. The five-episode series tells the timely story of the unprecedented relationship between acclaimed author and journalist Jillian Lauren and the most prolific serial killer in American history, Sam Little, and her race against time to identify his victims before it’s too late (Little recently died in prison at the age of 80, after avoiding justice for his crimes for decades).

Through the perspectives of Lauren and several female investigators, survivors and victims’ family members, “Confronting a Serial Killer” shines a light on systemic issues in the criminal justice system including bias against marginalized communities, particularly women of color, and those struggling with addiction, mental illness, and trauma. The docuseries is produced by Lionsgate Television, Third Eye Motion Picture Company and RadicalMedia.

Set to make its world premiere at the annual SXSW Film Festival in March, “Confronting a Serial Killer” will premiere this spring on STARZ in the U.S. and Canada, and will air day and date on the Starzplay international streaming service across Europe, Latin America and Japan.

“It was important to me and everyone working on this project that we put into focus the truly devastating impact that bias in our justice system can have on underrepresented groups, particularly women of color,” said Berlinger. “We follow Jillian in her dogged pursuit of justice for some of Sam’s victims and the loved ones they left behind, giving those that had largely been forgotten voice, name and identity.”

In “Confronting a Serial Killer,” New York Times best-selling author and memoirist Jillian Lauren (‘Some Girls: My Life in a Harem’) uncovers Sam Little’s darkest secrets and aids law enforcement in solving a multitude of cold case murders targeting marginalized communities, particularly women of color, while struggling to reconcile her own history of addiction and abuse with her present-day mission to return the identities of previously nameless bodies and forgotten women. As she slips deeper into his sordid world, Jillian realizes that she may become, psychologically, Little’s last victim.

Also serving as executive producers on the project are Jon Doran and Jon Kamen. Senior Vice President, Head of Unscripted Programming Alice Dickens-Koblin is the executive overseeing “Confronting a Serial Killer” on behalf of Starz and Lionsgate.

FROM EXECUTIVE PRODUCER CURTIS “50 CENT” JACKSON AND PRODUCED BY G-UNIT FILM AND TELEVISION PRODUCTION COMPANY IN ASSOCIATION WITH STARZ AND LIONSGATE TELEVISION, THE SERIES BEGINS FILMING THIS MONTH

Santa Monica, Calif – Starz announced today that Demetrius “Lil Meech” Flenory Jr., the son of Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory, is set to make his acting debut starring as his father in the STARZ Original series “Black Mafia Family.” The series will be executive produced by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson (“Power,” “Power Book II: Ghost,” “For Life”) and writer, executive producer, and Detroit native Randy Huggins (“Star,” “Rebel,” “Power”). “Black Mafia Family,” inspired by the true story of the Flenory brothers who gave birth to one of the most influential crime families in this country, will also star Da’Vinchi (“All American,” “grown-ish”) as Demetrius’ brother Terry “Southwest T” Flenory. Additionally, veteran actress, director and acting coach Tasha Smith (“Empire,” “Power,” Why Did I Get Married?) will be directing the first episode and multiple others. Wood Harris (“Empire,” Creed) is set to join his brother Steve Harris in a recurring role. “Black Mafia Family” is produced through Jackson’s G-Unit Film and Television in association with Starz and Lionsgate Television.

Demetrius “Lil Meech” Flenory Jr. plays his real-life father, Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory. A charming and ambitious Detroit legend-in-the-making, who becomes the face of the operation. Hungry for his slice of the American dream, Meech quickly advances from a corner boy to a mid-level man, who knows when to use the carrot or the stick as he and his brother set out to become the Kings of Detroit.

Da’Vinchi plays Demetrius’ brother Terry “Southwest T” Flenory, the quiet and calculating brains behind the scene. Wood Harris will join his brother in the cast recurring as Pat, the revered O.G. who gives Meech and Terry their first shot in the game. He instills a family first attitude that the Flenorys adopt until they begin to outshine their mentor and pursue their own independence.

Previously announced cast include series regulars Russell Hornsby (Fences, The Hate U Give) as Charles Flenory and Steve Harris (“The Practice,” Diary of a Mad Black Woman) as Detective Bryant, and entertainer Arkeisha “Kash Doll” Knight recurring as Monique.

“Black Mafia Family” is inspired by the true story of two brothers who rose from the decaying streets of southwest Detroit in the late 1980’s and gave birth to one of the most influential crime families in this country. Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory’s charismatic leadership, Terry “Southwest T” Flenory’s business acumen and the fraternal partnership’s vision beyond the drug trade and into the world of Hip Hop would render the brothers iconic on a global level. Their unwavering belief in family loyalty would be the cornerstone of their partnership and the crux of their eventual estrangement. This is a story about love, kinship and capitalism in the pursuit of the American dream.

American Gods is the epic story of an inevitable war building between the Old Gods of mythology and our New Gods of technology. Ricky Whittle stars as ex-con Shadow Moon, a man pulled into the service of the mysterious Mr. Wednesday, played by Ian McShane – only to discover that not only is his charismatic but un-trustable boss actually the Norse All-Father god Odin, he’s also…Shadow’s father.

In Season 3, Shadow angrily pushes this apparent destiny away, and settles in the idyllic snowy town of Lakeside, Wisconsin to make his own path, guided by the gods of his black ancestors, the Orishas. But he’ll soon discover that this town’s still waters run deep, and dark, and bloody, and that you don’t get to simply reject being a god. The only choice – and a choice you have to make – is what kind of god you’re going to be.

STARZ ANNOUNCES “BLINDSPOTTING” SERIES CAST AND BEGINS PRODUCTION IN OAKLAND AND LOS ANGELES

BENJAMIN EARL TURNER, ATTICUS WOODWARD, JAYLEN BARRON AND CANDACE NICHOLAS-LIPPMAN JOIN SERIES LEAD JASMINE CEPHAS JONES

Santa Monica, Calif. – Starz announced today it has started production for “Blindspotting,” the television series inspired by the provocative and critically-acclaimed Lionsgate film from Rafael Casal (Bad Education, “The Good Lord Bird”) and Daveed Diggs (“Snowpiercer,” “Hamilton an American Musical,” “Black-ish”). Casal will lead “Blindspotting” as showrunner. Produced by Lionsgate Television, the eight-episode, half-hour series will be shot in Oakland and Los Angeles.

Recording artist Benjamin Earl Turner, Atticus Woodward (“Shameless”), Jaylen Barron (“Free Rein,” “Shameless”) and Candace Nicholas-Lippman (“Good Trouble”) have been cast as series regulars alongside series star and Emmy Award(R)-winner Jasmine Cephas Jones (“#Freerayshawn,” “Hamilton an American Musical”). Casal will also reprise his character Miles in a recurring role for the series.

“Diggs and I are thrilled to continue our partnership with Lionsgate by expanding the Blindspotting world as a series on STARZ,” Rafael Casal said. “This story, the incredible cast and the production are a dream. We are making the kind of show we have long hoped to see on television, centered around just some of the amazing kinds of characters the Bay Area has to offer.”

“Figuring out a way to bring The Bay to life in a half-hour comedy space has been so rewarding,” Daveed Diggs adds. “Ultimately, this is a story about how a broken prison system affects all of us and, like the film, we’re using comedy to talk about very real systemic effects in the country with the largest prison population in the world.”

Previously announced, Jasmine Cephas Jones will reprise her lead role as Ashley, a woman who is nipping at the heels of a middle-class life in Oakland until Miles, her partner of 12 years and father of their son, is suddenly incarcerated. Jones is known for her dual roles as “Peggy Schuyler” and “Maria Reynolds” in the Tony Award-winning Broadway hit “Hamilton an American Musical.” She has appeared in “Girls” and “Midnight, Texas” and most recently “Mrs. Fletcher” and “#Freerayshawn,” which she earned an Emmy(R) Award for. Jones also serves as a producer on the series.

Benjamin Earl Turner is a musician, writer, actor, spoken word artist and alumnus of #BARS Workshop lab series, created by Casal and Diggs, at the Public Theater in New York. Turner will play Earl, who is fresh out of jail and wearing an ankle bracelet while doing a year of house arrest. He is just trying to kill time and lay low. Turner also serves as a writer on the series.

Atticus Woodward, best known for his role in “Shameless,” will play Ashley and Miles’ sweet, smart and energetic son, Sean.

Jaylen Barron is four-time Young Artist Award-nominated actress who has appeared in shows like “Shake It Up” and “See Dad Run.” Her breakout roles in “Shameless” and the Emmy Award(R)-winning series, “Free Rein” have elevated her career and prepared her for the next big role. Barron will play Miles’ younger half-sister, Trish, who might be wilder than he is. While she is quite a handful, she is the most loyal and loving person you’ll ever meet.

Candace Nicholas-Lippman was discovered by Casal and Diggs through an open Northern Calif. casting call and her spoken-word poetry. She has appeared in several high-profile Los Angeles plays including “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and “In The Next Room,” which earned her a nomination for Best Supporting Female in LA Scenie Award and LA Weekly Award. Nicholas-Lippman will play Ashley’s close friend, Janelle, who is equal parts TOWN as hell and worldly. She has just returned to the neighborhood in Oakland after spending many years in Bali.

About “Blindspotting”

“Blindspotting” centers on Ashley, who is nipping at the heels of a middle class life in Oakland until Miles, her partner of 12 years and father of their son, is suddenly incarcerated, leaving her to navigate a chaotic and humorous existential crisis when she is forced to move in with Miles’ mother and half-sister.

The half-hour dramedy “Blindspotting” is executive produced by Rafael Casal and Daveed Diggs, who also starred in the film in addition to writing and producing it. Casal also leads as the series showrunner and will direct an episode.

Jess Wu Calder and Keith Calder of Snoot Entertainment (One Night In Miami, Anomalisa) reunite with Casal and Diggs as executive producers on the series, along with Emily Gerson Saines, Ken Lee, and Tim Palen of Barnyard. Seith Mann (“#Freerayshawn,” “Homeland”) also serves as an executive producer and director on the first two episodes of the series.

Senior Vice President of Original Programming Kathryn Tyus-Adair is the executive overseeing “Blindspotting” on behalf of Starz. Maggie Leung is the executive overseeing the series on behalf of Lionsgate.
