Science Channel Goes Underwater and Underground in New Premieres of ‘Underground Marvels’ and ‘Abandoned: Expedition Shipwreck’

Both Series Premiere Thursday, August 5 on Science Channel

Hidden below the Earth’s surface are some of the most innovative, ground-breaking creations known to man that seem to defy the impossible. Hidden below the ocean’s surface lie a plethora of shipwrecks full of rich history, secrets, and stories from our past. In two new Science Channel premieres, UNDERGROUND MARVELS and ABANDONED: EXPEDITION SHIPWRECK, Science Channel goes underwater and underground exploring the greatest mysteries and marvels on Earth to reveal forgotten history and offering a glimpse into our future.

An all new season of UNDERGROUND MARVELS premieres Thursday, August 5 at 9pm ET/PT on Science Channel, followed by the series premiere of ABANDONED: EXPEDITION SHIPWRECK at 10pm ET/PT. Viewers can join the conversation on social media by using #UndergroundMarvels, #ExpeditionShipwreck, and following @ScienceChannel on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok.

Throughout this season of UNDERGROUND MARVELS, historians, engineers, and experts reveal underground structures that seem to defy human imagination, from Southwest England to Moldova and beyond. In South Dakota, a decommissioned military bunker lies abandoned 200-feet below the ground. Now, 50 years later, how has this massive silo been repurposed for a new generation? In Exeter, England, a mysterious underground tunnel system lies hidden below the city. Who built these secret passageways? And how have they evolved over the centuries? Thousands of miles away on historic Route 66 lies the entrance to a network of deep caves, the largest dry caverns in North America. But how much more remains undiscovered? Whether exploring decades old mines fraught with danger or investigating impossibly complex underground tunnel systems, UNDERGROUND MARVELS leaves no cavern, tunnel, bunker or mystery unturned.

In the all-new series, ABANDONED: EXPEDITION SHIPWRECK, experts follow investigations around the world that reveal the most epic, infamous and notorious shipwrecks from throughout history. From wartime disasters to commercial ship collisions, this series exposes the many volatile risks at sea and how they’ve shaped regulations and technological advancements, and also pieces together disasters from history to reveal what really happened and why. After the sinking of the ocean liner ‘Empress of Ireland,’ known as one of Canada’s worst maritime tragedies, experts look closer at the critical decisions made in the face of danger and how they can make all the difference and potentially save lives. In the wake of WWI, 74 of the most modern and powerful warships of the German High Seas fleet disappeared into the depths near Orkney Islands, Scotland. But why? What led to their demise? Following intel from maritime archaeologists, along with data from sonar mapping and CGI reenactments, ABANDONED: EXPEDITION SHIPWRECK looks to uncover new details about some of the most infamous wrecks from history.

UNDERGROUND MARVELS is produced for Science Channel by Phoenix Television. For Phoenix Television, Miles Jarvis and Jaimi West are executive producers. For Science Channel, Lindsey Foster Blumberg is executive producer and Jennifer Gross is producer.

ABANDONED: EXPEDITION SHIPWRECK is produced for Science Channel by Mallinson Sadler Productions. For Mallinson Sadler Productions, Phil Craig and Crispin Sadler are executive producers. For Science Channel, Lindsey Foster Blumberg is executive producer.

HITLER’S HIDDEN SECRETS: AN ALL NEW SEASON OF “SECRET NAZI RUINS” PREMIERES JULY 25 ON SCIENCE CHANNEL

Nazi Germany left their ominous footprint throughout the world, from tunnels and towers to underground bases and communication centers. To this day, the structural remains of Nazi Germany lie waiting to reveal the truth about Hitler’s tactics and guard clues about the nefarious plots he was planning to carry out. In an all-new season of the Science Channel series, SECRET NAZI RUINS, experts investigate these abandoned sites to dissect and reveal their true purpose and what covert projects they were intended for.

The all-new season of SECRET NAZI RUINS premieres Sunday, July 25 at 10pm ET/PT on Science Channel. In addition to watching SECRET NAZI RUINS on Science Channel, viewers can join the conversation on social media by using #SecretNaziRuins and following @ScienceChannel Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok.

History books claim that World War II began in 1939, but evidence shows Germany’s preparation for the war began years earlier. Long before the first shot, Hitler began a slow build up in the East with secret military projects under the guise of waterway projects such as dams and drawbridges. By 1938, Germany had established miles of bunkers, tunnels and factories built and ready for war. Experts investigate these mysterious structures and abandoned bases to piece together forgotten history and secrets few knew about — until now.

Throughout this season of SECRET NAZI RUINS, experts look to the terrifying yet truly groundbreaking sciences and technologies that stemmed from the dark imaginations of the Nazi elite in Peenemunde, a small German seaside city overtaken by the Nazis at the start of the war. What terrors might they have unleashed had their position not been betrayed? And would it have been a weapon of mass destruction that ended the war had Hitler believed in the center from the beginning?

Deep in the Owl Mountains of Poland lies a forgotten Nazi complex, the purpose of which remains largely unknown. Built sometime between 1943 and 1945, some have suggested its use was to shelter thousands of people from Allied bombs. But much of the concrete is still unaccounted for — could there be more tunnels no one has yet found? And even deeper secrets we have yet to uncover?

SECRET NAZI RUINS is produced by Go Button Media for Science Channel. Daniel Oron and Natasha Ryan are executive producers for Go Button. For Science Channel, executive producer is Neil Laird and producer is Andrew Lessner.

Viewers also won’t want to miss an all-new Science Channel special, HITLER’S AMERICAN BATTLEGROUND, premiering July 25 at 8pm ET/PT ahead of the the SECRET NAZI RUINS premiere. The two-hour special follows experts as they chart forgotten WWII underwater battlegrounds off America’s coasts, revealing the truth about Nazi submarines mercilessly stalking the Atlantic before US forces gained the upper hand.

DISCOVERY, SCIENCE CHANNEL AND TRAVEL CHANNEL ANNOUNCE LIVE MULTIPLATFORM SPECIAL

DISCOVERY, SCIENCE CHANNEL AND TRAVEL CHANNEL ANNOUNCE LIVE MULTIPLATFORM SPECIAL DELVING INTO U.S. INTELLIGENCE REPORT ON EXTRATERRESTRIAL ACTIVITY
Adventurer and Avid Explorer Josh Gates To Host ‘UFOs Declassified: LIVE,’ a 3-Hour Multiplatform Event, to Simulcast LIVE Beginning at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT on Wednesday, June 30, on Discovery, Science Channel and Travel Channel
(LOS ANGELES) – Is there life beyond this planet? And what exactly will the highly-anticipated government report reveal on unexplained aerial phenomena? Discovery, Science Channel and Travel Channel announced today it will broadcast ‘UFOs Declassified: LIVE,’ a 3-hour multiplatform event, airing LIVE beginning at 8 PM ET/5 PM PT on Wednesday, June 30. The series is produced by Lionsgate’s Pilgrim Media Group.

Josh Gates of Discovery’s EXPEDITION UNKNOWN will host, questioning top experts including NASA Administrator Bill Nelson; former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid; former Counselor to President Obama John Podesta; and retired senior intelligence officer Bob Wallace. Other experts will include astrophysicist Dr. Hakeem Oluseyi, physicist and astronomer Robert Weryk, former UK Ministry of Defense employee Nick Pope and intelligence historian Keith Melton. Viewers will also hear from those who’ve dedicated their careers to finding answers to the biggest mysteries – including The X-Files creator Chris Carter, filmmaker and television director Barry Sonnenfeld (Men in Black), founding member of Blink-182 Tom DeLonge, investigative filmmaker Jeremy Corbell, and investigative reporter George Knapp.

“It’s a question that has been asked for centuries – are we alone in the universe?” said Scott Lewers, Executive Vice President of Multiplatform Programming, Factual & Head of Content, Science. “And with the delivery of this highly anticipated report to the US Congress, we are closer than ever to the answer. Discovery, Science and Travel Channel are proud to bring together top military and government experts, along with UFO believers and skeptics, to analyze the revelations this report holds, and to bring their unique insight to what we know and don’t know.”

Senators, former president Barack Obama and former CIA directors all have expressed openness to the possibility of life beyond Earth. In recent years, US Navy pilots have also spotted unexplained aircraft and objects while out at sea. What exactly is happening in the sky? Will this once classified information shed light on these mysteries and others? The truth is out there.

American intelligence officials have long remained silent on the subject of unexplained flying objects (UFOs). But this all changed last December when congress required the Director of National Intelligence to summarize and report on the government’s knowledge of unidentified aerial phenomena, or unidentified flying objects. The release of the unclassified version this month will look at incidents over the last two decades.

The live multiplatform event will be hosted by adventurer and avid explorer Josh Gates. As host of Discovery’s hit series EXPEDITION UNKNOWN, Gates is known for his deep curiosity as he sets out to find the truth behind the most iconic legends and mysteries. He is also host of JOSH GATES TONIGHT and served as host of EXPEDITION UNKNOWN: EGYPT LIVE, where a team of Egyptian archaeologists and explorers uncovered a 2,500-year-old mummy of a high priest for the first time ever on live television among other Egyptian antiquities. Gates also was a special guest as part of Discovery and Science Channel’s SPACE LAUNCH LIVE: CREW-1 LIFT OFF, a multiplatform event this past November, capturing the NASA and SpaceX launch of the Falcon 9 rocket and Dragon spacecraft carrying the Crew-1 astronauts to the International Space Station. The live space coverage drove ratings records for both networks.

Science Channel is also running a week-long marathon of UFO programming leading up to the live broadcast event. The UFO week of programming will include The Unexplained Files, Alien Encounters, UFO Conspiracies, NASA’s Unexplained Files among others.

Don’t Miss the Return of Science Channel’s Hit Series “Engineering Catastrophes” and “Impossible Engineering”

The Devil Is in the Details: Don’t Miss the Return of Science Channel’s Hit Series “Engineering Catastrophes” and “Impossible Engineering” Premiering June 9
Look for both series back-to-back this Wednesday beginning at 9:00/8:00c.
[via press release from Science Channel]
THE DEVIL IS IN THE DETAILS: DON’T MISS THE RETURN OF SCIENCE CHANNEL’S HIT SERIES “ENGINEERING CATASTROPHES” AND “IMPOSSIBLE ENGINEERING” PREMIERING JUNE 9

At its best, extraordinary engineering can showcase human ingenuity in ways that defy what we once thought possible. At its worst, a small miscalculation can cause mayhem. When it comes to engineering, the devil is in the details, and while humans have conceived some of the most remarkable and mind-blowing objects, concepts, and structures over the centuries, we have yet to perfect the craft. With the return of two Science Channel series, ENGINEERING CATASTROPHES and IMPOSSIBLE ENGINEERING, viewers travel across the globe to discover incredible engineering feats that seem to defy reason, as well as some of the biggest near misses and building blunders to explore how and what went so horribly wrong.

An all-new season of ENGINEERING CATASTROPHES premieres Wednesday, June 9 at 9 pm ET/PT on Science Channel, followed by an all-new season of IMPOSSIBLE ENGINEERING at 10 pm ET/PT. In addition to watching IMPOSSIBLE ENGINEERING and ENGINEERING CATASTROPHES on Science Channel, viewers can join the conversation on social media by following @ScienceChannel on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram and using #ImpossibleEngineering and #EngineeringCatastrophes.

Engineers are faced with a harsh reality – catastrophes can strike anywhere, anytime. In this season of ENGINEERING CATASTROPHES, experts investigate the most extraordinary – sometimes deadly – engineering disasters around the globe, spanning five continents and ranging from bridge collapses to sinkholes and dam failures. In Minneapolis, what caused a major freeway bridge to suddenly collapse in the middle of rush hour? Why did a routine demolition in Dallas stun the crowds? How did an explosive derailment narrowly miss taking out a town in North Dakota? And in Kentucky, why did the Earth swallow eight priceless Corvettes? With extraordinary access to eyewitnesses, architectural experts and structural design teams, ENGINEERING CATASTROPHES analyzes how these major errors went undiscovered and how engineers are working to ensure the safety of our future structures.

In an all-new season of IMPOSSIBLE ENGINEERING, experts look to the most impressive and record-breaking builds around the world that push the limits of what’s possible. Revealing how these mega-structures and massive machines were ideated and built, as well as spotlighting the trailblazers who are responsible for pioneering new techniques and taking risks that push the boundaries of innovation, IMPOSSIBLE ENGINEERING highlights engineering at its best. In London, one of the largest regeneration projects in Europe is underway as the iconic Battersea Power Station is set to be reinvented and transformed. As people across the world continue to question whether we’re alone in the universe, engineers are the European Space Agency have created a machine like no other – the ExoMars Rover – that may just give us the answer. And in an equally perilous environment to space, the engineers behind the Sleipnir endure the waves, wind and rain of the planet’s oceans to build a groundbreaking, heavy-lifting crane megaship that’s redefining how humans build at sea.

ENGINEERING CATASTROPHES is produced for Science Channel by BriteSpark Films in association with Beyond Rights. For BriteSpark Films, Nick Godwin and Tom Gorham are the executive producers. For Science Channel, Lindsey Foster Blumberg is executive producer and Michelle Irei is producer.

IMPOSSIBLE ENGINEERING is produced by Twofour Broadcast for Science Channel. For Twofour, executive producer is Neil Edwards and series producer is Jonney Steven. For Science Channel, Neil Laird is executive producer.

In 2009, a phone shaped clay tablet is handed in to the British Museum for investigation. Experts quickly realize the artifact is covered in Babylonian Cuneiform writing – the earliest known form of writing on Earth – dating the tablet back at least 3,700 years. By deciphering the 60 lines of text, experts now believe the tablet is an instruction manual to build a boat of colossal size and an oddly round shape. Could this tablet prove that Noah’s Ark could’ve been real? Was the boat outlined on the tablet ever built? And could a second tablet be hidden away somewhere holding the answers experts are desperate to find?

Shaped like a miniature, modern-day carousel, the Tempest Prognosticator is one of the strangest and most mysterious scientific instruments in history. Driven by a 19th century obsession with weather prediction, this Victorian-era barometer is unlike any object before or since – because it is powered by leeches. Leeches were popular in the medical communities of the time, but one man believed they could do much more; by sensing atmospheric conditions and forecasting storms. This strange thing was praised in the press for its powers of prediction and displayed at the Great Exhibition as an example of British scientific skill. But if the Tempest Prognosticator is so great, what happens to it? And why don’t today’s forecasters use leeches for weather prediction?

In 1881, archaeologists discover a hoard of coffins in Egypt crammed into a tomb near the River Nile. But even amongst this astonishing trove of finds, one coffin stands out. It carries no inscription or identifying marks and inside they uncover the bizarre, shocking corpse of a young man. His hands and feet had been bound, his face is frozen in an agonizing scream. The body has riddled archaeologists for decades. Who was this man? And what had he done to be treated like this? Now, with the help of DNA analysis and CT scans, experts believe they may be able to finally reveal the true story behind the ‘screaming mummy.’

These odd objects and famed artifacts span thousands of years. They were created by cultures from across the world, yet they all share one thing in common – each one of them has confounded or amazed experts, sometimes for centuries. Now, by rebuilding them, pulling them apart and zooming in to microscopic evidence, STRANGEST THINGS gets under their skin, examining them in extraordinary detail to reveal the truth behind some of the most bizarre and mysterious objects on Earth.

STRANGEST THINGS is produced for Science Channel by Blink Films. For Blink Films, Dan Gold and Dan Chambers are executive producers. For Science Channel, Neil Laird is executive producer and Andrew Lessner is producer.

The mystery of a former palace outside Delhi and a self-proclaimed queen whose fraudulent deception was unraveled by a New York Times reporter. The bizarre riddle of Muhammed Ali’s epic “Rumble in the Jungle” and an upscale hotel resort that once hosted the rich and famous throughout its illustrious history with an underground bunker tucked away in case of nuclear attack. A modern theme park in Indonesia struck down by a series of bizarre events.

Once significant sites and structures around the world, today these abandoned places are merely the ghostly remains of what they once were. In an all new season of Science Channel’s hit series, MYSTERIES OF THE ABANDONED, experts uncover the stories behind these abandoned marvels and remarkable sites to reveal their once rich, sometimes haunting, history and why they were left behind.

After decades of decay and withstanding erosion, disasters, and wars, what’s left of these structures will reveal secrets from throughout history.

With what is still considered one of the biggest rotative beam engines in the world, this ‘Cathedral of Sewage’ was once part of a solution to the public health crisis in London following what was known as the ‘Great Stink’ of 1958. With insight from the descendants of the engineer responsible for designing the facility that transformed London, experts reveal the history of this revolutionary sewer system and what the future of this unique facility holds. Off the coast of China, a giant concrete box looms over the water appearing to look like an apartment block of sorts. But experts reveal this mysterious structure’s true purpose – a giant speaker designed to beam propaganda across the straight to the people of Communist China.

Also this season, experts investigate an epic abandoned resort on the banks of the Dead Sea embroiled in controversy and the Russian mafia, a modern abstract tower in the middle of nowhere in Croatia that appears to belong to a futuristic city, and a former priesthood training center in the forest outside of Glasgow with a brutalist exterior.

Throughout MYSTERIES OF THE ABANDONED, these structures are brought back to life with advanced CGI modeling to help tell the stories of these lost worlds and their haunted pasts.

SCIENCE CHANNEL EXPLORES THE “SECRETS OF THE LOST ARK”

All New Series ‘Secrets of the Lost Ark’ Premieres Sunday, May 23 at 10 PM ET/PT on Science Channel

(LOS ANGELES) – For centuries, explorers have searched for the Bible’s most sacred religious artefacts. One of the most mysterious of these objects is the famed Ark of the Covenant. The gold-plated wooden chest – one of the most instrumental symbols of faith and God’s presence – was believed to house the two tablets bearing the Ten Commandments. The Ark’s exact whereabouts has long puzzled scholars. Where did it go? And why has it remained such a mystery? SECRETS OF THE LOST ARK, premiering Sunday, May 23 at 10 PM ET/PT on Science Channel, follows a team of experts using the latest science and research in search of answers.

This real-life treasure hunt will follow the clues, hidden in the most extraordinary places – from the Holy Land to the countries that surround it. Along the way, the team of researchers will examine its many unsolved mysteries. What did the Ark look like? What was its purpose? And did it actually exist at all?

The first episode takes viewers to Jerusalem, believed to be the traditional home of the Ark of the Covenant. Many prominent scholars believe the Ark lies underneath Temple Mount. But what will it take to find it? Archaeologists scour the subterranean city beneath Jerusalem in search of clues of the Ark’s location – from Zedekiah’s cave in the old city to the cisterns beneath St Anne’s church and the drainage channels from the Gihon Spring. Another theory examines the huge graveyards surrounding the city, as the Ark may have been hidden there from the invaders. What secrets will they discover?

Each episode will look at the latest evidence as well as the many legends and rumors swirling around about its location. Could the Ark have been stolen by the Roman Legions and brought back to their capital? Or was it taken for safe keepings and hidden in a cave? Or could the Ark have been transported to Ireland, according to Celtic folklore? The experts are looking into every clue and will leave no stone unturned.

In addition to watching SECRETS OF THE LOST ARK on Science Channel, viewers can join the conversation on social media by using the hashtag #SecretsOfTheLostArk and follow @ScienceChannel on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

SECRETS OF THE LOST ARK is produced for Science Channel by Like a Shot Entertainment. For Like a Shot, Henry Scott is Executive Producer. For Science Channel, Neil Laird is Executive Producer and Andrew Lessner is Producer.
