“AMERICA’S DEADLIEST ROCK CONCERT: THE GUEST LIST” ORIGINAL DOCUMENTARY PREMIERES SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 20 AT 8PM ET/ 5PM PT

Documentary Premieres on the 19th Anniversary of the Station Nightclub Fire in the Small New England Town of West Warwick Rhode Island When Pyrotechnics From an 80s Rock Band Sparked a Fire Killing 100 People

(Albuquerque, NM) Wednesday, January 12, 2022 – REELZ today announced the network’s original documentary America’s Deadliest Rock Concert: The Guest List premieres Sunday, February 20 at 8pm ET/ 5pm PT presenting the deeply personal stories of lives forever altered by the tragic Station nightclub fire that left 100 people dead, more than 200 injured, and devastated the tight-knit community of West Warwick, Rhode Island. It is also a story of the triumph of the human spirit, as seen in a community’s resilience and the recovery and rebirth of Joe Kinan, who was the last survivor pulled from the fire and the most severely burned.

On the night of February 20, 2003, more than 400 music fans packed into the small Station nightclub. Just seconds after 80s sensation Great White took the stage, pyrotechnics ignited a fire that raced up the walls and across the ceiling of the packed venue. In less than 90 seconds, most of those who hadn’t already made their escape would be trapped inside. They would be burned alive, identified days later only by dental records or tattoos. The Station fire was a perfect storm of human error that became one of the worst nightclub tragedies in U.S. history. It remains America’s deadliest rock concert.

“Seen through the human lens of victims, survivors and their families, the fire and milestones of healing physical and emotional scars all come into focus in this poignant television event,” said Steve Cheskin, SVP of Programming at REELZ. “With intimate insight from people who were impacted by the tragedy, this is a potent portrait of humanity, from deep resentment and brutal suffering to resilience and the power of community.”

“This documentary addresses timeless themes of personal responsibility, loss, courage and forgiveness. The people intertwined with this event struggle to cope in the aftermath of disaster – some gracefully, and some less so. It is an abject lesson in the tragic potential of poor decisions,” said David Bellino, director of America’s Deadliest Rock Concert: The Guest List. “The local pride and fortitude of the community shine through as interviewees recount the fire and reflect upon both their duty both to remember and to move forward toward healing. Survivor Joe Kinan’s courage, and even humor, in the face of the horrific challenges he faced recovering serve as powerful reminders of the endurance of the human spirit.”

Viewers will also see rare and jarring footage from the first news crews on the scene tasked with reporting the horrific event as victims’ families eagerly awaited news. First responders share their experiences of battling the blaze, treating victims and managing the chaos as it unfolded.

“They said that the building was 1,000 degrees inside. I could hear everything going on around me. The sounds of yelling were quite loud. Then, it grew quieter and quieter. Then, it was just me. I said to myself, ‘If I have a choice in this I’m not going out this way.’ I heard the voice of a firefighter yell, ‘We’ve got one over here.’ I was placed on a stretcher and rushed to the nearest hospital. Weeks later, when I awoke from my coma I immediately understood and accepted what was going on. I spent the next 50 weeks in the hospital. Even after I was released, at the end of each day I felt as if I needed to go “home” to the hospital. To this day, it is one of the most comfortable and relaxing places for me,” said Joe Kinan, who to date has undergone 136 surgeries, including a hand transplant. He will continue to require surgeries for the rest of his life. “This experience has taught me that I am a tenacious individual. I persevere each day.”

America’s Deadliest Rock Concert: The Guest List is partially based on the book, “Killer Show: The Station Nightclub Fire, America’s Deadliest Rock Concert,” written by John Barylick. who is a producing partner of the documentary and an attorney/law professor in Rhode Island. His book is regarded as the first and most comprehensive exploration of the chain of events leading up to the fire, as well as its legal and human aftermath.

“The crowd’s mood inside the Station went from celebration, to curiosity, to concern, to absolute terror within about a 20-second span. This was a tragedy of a magnitude not seen before in Rhode Island. The fire site looked like the scene of a battle, fought and lost,” said John Barylick. “My horror at the incident rose along with the body count. It was difficult to comprehend the whole scope of this and what missteps could give rise to such an extreme and deadly fire. Hopefully, this story will make us all change our lives just a little bit so we never have another Station nightclub disaster.”

Dee Snider, Twisted Sister frontman, once played the Station nightclub and many others just like it in cities and towns across the country, as was common for many rock and metal bands of the 80s era. Snider, who was instrumental in bringing together fellow recording artists for a fundraising concert for survivors and victims’ families, can be heard performing a new song, “Stand”.

“Nobody should have to die because they want to see a band and listen to the music they love. Nobody should be scarred for life, be crippled or have their children orphaned because of their love for rock n roll,” said Dee Snider. “This documentary not only serves as a reminder of this incredible tragedy, but it shines a light on an amazing group of people who overcame unfathomable loss, and survived, even thrived in the aftermath.”

America’s Deadliest Rock Concert: The Guest List explores the Station nightclub fire through gripping survivor accounts and family members and friends of victims who have memorialized their loss through pursuits ranging from an exhibit of commemorative body art to re-immersion in the rock culture that initially brought them and their loved ones to the Station nightclub. Their stories embody courage and deliver inspiration while others depict a much darker aftermath. Great White’s own Jack Russell emerged from the experience a changed man carrying with him the burden of accusation for what transpired that night and in a series of highly revealing interviews he shares his post-fire search for peace after a near two-decade journey of crippling heartbreak and depression as a result of surviving the tragedy. In the afternoon before the concert Russell met many Great White fans in the West Warwick area and graciously added their names to the guest list for the show that night. For many of those fans what appeared to be their lucky day turned out to be their last.

Weeks after the fire a charred handwritten notebook page was recovered from the Station nightclub ashes that contained rows of names and above them were the words ‘Guest List’.

Below are detailed descriptions for January 2022 programming listed by premiere date and time:

Affluenza Teen: The Friends Speak premieres on Saturday, January 8 at 8pm ET/ 5pm PT. From birth Ethan Couch was raised in a bubble of wealth, privilege and lack of consequences. His reckless teenage behavior escalated out of control in a series of incidents that culminated in Couch driving drunk and killing four people while also severely injuring nine more. During his trial and sentencing a radical defense of “affluenza” was presented and became a self-fulfilling prophecy. Couch received a lenient sentence when a jury agreed that he had been sheltered by wealth his entire life and did not develop a sense of consequences and morals. Now in Affluenza Teen: The Friends Speak people intimately connected to the story sit down to share their experiences including Kevin McConnell who was first on the scene of the crash which also injured his son Lucas. Joining him are his other son Sheldon and Tim Williams who were both at the scene and whose friend and youth pastor Brian “BJ” Williams died in the crash. Together they discuss processing the horrors of the scene, that dubious probation only sentence, the role of Couch’s parents in the tragedy and why Tim decided to meet with Couch in jail. Also interviewed are investigative journalist Mark Ebner discussing the public outcry surrounding the case and forensic psychiatrist Dr. Eric Bender who discusses the “affluenza” defense from a clinical perspective. The Friends Speak is produced by Kinetic Content and Pyramid Productions.

Scott Peterson: The Friends Speak premieres on Sunday, January 9 at 8pm ET/ 5pm PT. Scott Peterson met Laci while frequenting a local diner and it was love at first sight. But their storybook love quickly wilted behind the scenes with Scott’s multiple affairs none of which Laci knew about. With his pro-golf career ambitions gone Scott set about creating a new life with Laci in the suburbs of Modesto California and start their idyllic family story. But for him the dream was more of a nightmare and he wanted out. On Christmas Day in 2002 pregnant 27-year-old Laci disappeared from their home. The investigation into her disappearance turned into a major media spectacle and later spawned countless magazine cover stories, TV movies and books. A few months later the bodies of Laci and her unborn son were found washed ashore in an area Scott said he went fishing the day Laci went missing. All signs pointed to Scott who was sentenced to death and is now serving life in prison despite his continuous pleas of innocence. Now in Scott Peterson: The Friends Speak six people involved with the story share their experiences including Laci’s friends Debbie Wolski and Mika Anderson, Scott’s college coach Hugh Gerhardt, reporter Julia Prodis Sulek who covered the story and Modesto Detective Jon Buehler and FBI Dive Team leader Bobby Chacon who both worked on the Peterson case. The Friends Speak is produced by Kinetic Content and Pyramid Productions.

The Chicago Mob: Deadly Associates premieres on Saturday, January 29 at 8pm ET/ 5pm PT. On September 27, 1974 federal informant and businessman Danny Seifert was gunned down in broad daylight. The crime wasn’t so surprising at the time since, after all, this was life in the mob circles of Chicago and Seifert was in deep with the organized crime outfit that controlled the city. What was surprising was that the gunmen left two living witnesses in Danny’s wife Emma and their young son Joey. Together, Emma and Joey began a 30-year quest for justice that stretched from the mean streets of Chicago to the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas. As Joey grew older he began to ask questions. Who killed his father? Why was no one ever brought to justice? Is anyone still looking for the killers? These questions consumed him. By day Joey was a loving father and hardworking family man but like his father he led a double life. If nobody was going to bring his father’s killers to justice Joey was prepared to take the law into his own hands. This is a story of ambition, betrayal and revenge but most of all it’s the story of how one family did the impossible in helping to bring down the venerable Chicago mob. The Chicago Mob: Deadly Associates is produced by Octane Rich Films and FlashRock Films.

But despite phenomenal success time and time again Tyler’s career nose-dived into a negative spiral with drug and alcohol addiction almost killing him yet every time he fell Tyler came back even bigger and better than before. The frontman of Van Halen is the same person both on and off stage and craves attention and adulation at all times. Growing up in rural Indiana Roth showed early brilliance turning himself into a ferociously bright teenager. His determination to become a frontman led him to convince the Van Halen brothers to let him join their band and Roth’s infectious personality and memorable acrobatic stage presence helped make Van Halen one of the most popular rock bands in the world. His notorious rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle and fun-loving demeanor cemented Diamond Dave as, for some, the band’s only “real” frontman. Sharing their personal stories of Roth are childhood friend George Perez and former Van Halen band manager Marshall Berle. Frontmen is produced by Honey Bee.

November 2021 also marks the REELZ premiere of documentary Rob Van Dam: Headstrong following the professional wrestling legend known as RVD on a standup comedy tour that is derailed when unexpected concussion symptoms cause a dramatic shift in his priorities.

“November premieres showcase the riveting real stories of people who went against U.S. law enforcement and paid the price with their lives,” said Steve Cheskin, SVP of Programming at REELZ. “We also look forward to showing viewers the powerful and intimate accounts of family members and friends impacted by headline grabbing crimes as well as Rob Van Dam: Headstrong tapping into the enduring fascination with professional wrestling and its larger than life characters with Van Dam himself giving a candid look into his life beyond the ring.”

November 2021 premieres begin Saturday, November 6 with three back-to-back Deadly Standoff specials. Waco Burning: Deadly Standoff at 8pm ET/ 5pm PT recounts the infamous 1993 FBI siege of a Branch Davidian compound and what led to the doomed standoff including the shocking stories of abuse and weapons stockpiling under depraved leader David Koresh. At 9pm ET/ 6pm PT it’s Ruby Ridge: Deadly Standoff with the story of a pivotal event in American history that would change the rules of engagement and redefine police tactics for use of deadly force. The Ruby Ridge standoff lasted 11 days but one of the longest standoffs ever in the 113 year history of the FBI was with the Montana Freemen Militia in rural Jordan Montana. In Montana Freemen Militia: Deadly Standoff at 10pm ET/ 7pm PT former FBI special agent Tim Healy shares his riveting first-hand account of going undercover inside the extremist group and the fallout that sparked the standoff.

On Saturday, November 13 at 8pm ET/ 5pm PT Rob Van Dam: Headstrong makes its REELZ premiere with the incredible real story of the fan favorite professional wrestler who sets out to document his comedy tour but instead must suddenly grapple with the physical toll of a career in wrestling when troublesome concussion symptoms arise. What follows is a real time account of Van Dam’s personal experience of concussion damage and his intimate journey to understand mental health. While living by his own rules made Van Dam a wrestling megastar for others like Republic of Texas separatist group leader Richard McLaren it led to being hunted down by authorities. McLaren’s Republic of Texas militia group doesn’t recognize Texas as a part of the U.S. and thus according to them are not subject to its laws. In War of the Republic of Texas: Deadly Standoff on Saturday, November 20 at 8pm ET/ 5pm PT see what happened when McLaren declared war against Texas law enforcement. Immediately following at 9pm ET/ 6pm PT is The MOVE Bombing: Deadly Standoff about the shocking incidents between Philadelphia based black liberation group MOVE and the Philadelphia police department that culminated in a tragic fatal siege by authorities that resulted in the deaths of 11 people and the burning of 65 homes. Whereas MOVE members were helpless to control the fire that engulfed their property the burning of Rainbow Farm Campground in Michigan was intentionally set by its owners and marijuana activists Tom Crosslin and his partner Rollie Rohm in order to destroy it before authorities could seize it. Burning Rainbow Farm: Deadly Standoff at 10pm ET/ 7pm presents the story of the blaze that put Crosslin and Rohm on a collision course with deadly force.

Waco Burning: Deadly Standoff premieres on Saturday, November 6 at 8pm ET/ 5pm PT. For decades the Branch Davidians existed peacefully on the outskirts of Waco Texas. It’s not until David Koresh takes over leadership that things turn malignant for the splinter religious group. Rumors begin to swirl around Waco that Koresh is breaking several laws including very serious allegations of pedophilia and illegal modifications to rifles. These allegations put him and his followers on a collision course with law enforcement. Religion and the government often do not see eye to eye and when they do collide it can be disastrous and in the case of the Branch Davidians outside Waco it would become one of the biggest gun battles in U.S. history and along with a massive blaze that overtook the compound 76 Branch Davidians including Koresh himself would die in one of the most infamous sieges in history. Sharing his story of surviving the Waco compound disaster is Branch Davidian Clive Doyle, former FBI Chief Negotiator Gary Noesner and cult specialist Rick Ross. Deadly Standoff is produced by NorthSouth Productions and Pyramid Productions.

Ruby Ridge: Deadly Standoff premieres on Saturday, November 6 at 9pm ET/ 6pm PT. Randy and his wife Vicki Weaver are religious extremists who decide to seclude themselves and their children on the side of a mountain in rural Idaho. They must adjust to a new way of life being completely off the grid and socially isolated. After a chance altercation with one of their few neighbors Randy is flagged by the FBI. Agents who are also investigating other extremists from an Aryan Nation compound try to pull Randy into an undercover operation. When he refuses to cooperate it kicks off a series of tragic events that would become pivotal in redefining rules of engagement for law enforcement and when officers can use deadly force. The federal government would spend millions of dollars, employ hundreds of personnel and use tons of military equipment to trap, track, retrieve and prosecute Randy and family friend Kevin Harris. When officials close in on the Weaver property they kill the family dog and Randy’s 14-year-old son Sam pushing Randy over the edge. Sharing her powerful first-hand experience of the events of Ruby Ridge is Randy’s daughter Sara Weaver. Deadly Standoff is produced by NorthSouth Productions and Pyramid Productions.

Montana Freemen Militia: Deadly Standoff premieres on Saturday, November 6 at 10pm ET/ 7pm PT. After a downturn in the economy many ranchers begin losing their farms or taking out loans that they can’t pay back. Desperate times leave many feeling dissatisfied with the U.S. government. Among them is LeRoy Schweitzer who takes the opportunity to in his mind break away from the United States and take advantage of everyone who decides to follow him. Millions of dollars later he begins to feel untouchable but money isn’t the only problem. Will the FBI take him and his followers down when things turn violent before anyone gets hurt? Sharing his riveting undercover experience of infiltrating deep inside the Montana Freemen is FBI special agent Tim Healy along with former FBI special agent Tom Kubic who was in charge of the Montana Freemen standoff negotiations which at 81 days became one of the longest standoffs in the history of the FBI. Deadly Standoff is produced by NorthSouth Productions and Pyramid Productions.

Rob Van Dam: Headstrong makes its REELZ premiere on Saturday, November 13 at 8pm ET/ 5pm PT. Rob Van Dam aka RVD is a pro wrestling legend and member of the WWE Hall of Fame. In addition to holding titles around the world he made history when he became the first person to simultaneously hold the WWE and ECW championships. Now he is the subject of the candid and uncompromising documentary Rob Van Dam: Headstrong as he embarks on a life changing journey across the country with cameras capturing his life on the road performing standup comedy and connecting with his fans while presenting an honest look into the life of a legend known to millions around the world. While touring an unexpected roadblock paves the way for an exploratory journey into the harsh and sometimes devastating realities of concussions in professional wrestling. It is an unforgettable rollercoaster ride that is a testament to Rob Van Dam’s unique life strategy for personal success and happiness. Rob Van Dam: Headstrong ¬¬¬¬is produced by Backrow Studios.

War of the Republic of Texas: Deadly Standoff premieres on Saturday, November 20 at 8pm ET/ 5pm PT. It’s said that everything is bigger in Texas and for members of the Republic of Texas separatist group nothing is bigger than their belief that Texas should be an independent country. Republic of Texas members gained notoriety for their disregard of federal and Texas state laws. Their unusual sense of autonomy arose from a twisted reading of Texas state history. The group is infamous for “paper terrorism” flooding the Texas court system with thousands of false leads against neighbors and government officials. When the group splits into factions and take hostages it forces the Texas Rangers elite law enforcement agency to intervene and bring the Republic of Texas leader Richard McLaren to justice and release hostages. After the fallout lives are lost but justice is served. Sharing their experiences of being on the frontlines of the standoff are former Texas Ranger Jess Malone and former captain of the Texas Rangers Barry Caver. Deadly Standoff is produced by NorthSouth Productions and Pyramid Productions.

The MOVE Bombing: Deadly Standoff premieres on Saturday, November 20 at 9pm ET/ 6pm PT. MOVE, originally the Christian Movement for Life, is a communal organization founded in 1972 in Philadelphia. Described as a unique blend of flower power natural living and black liberationists. The group lives in a commune style townhouse and blast messages over loudspeakers irking neighbors and prompting the mayor to intervene with police force. After the botched eviction of MOVE members from their home in 1978 that resulted in the death of a police officer tensions are boiling among police and MOVE members. When MOVE members refuse to leave their townhouse the police with the help of the FBI create an explosive device and drop it onto the roof to blow open a hole for tear gas. The resulting fire would incinerate 65 homes and in the chaos 11 MOVE members would lose their lives including five children. Sharing their first-hand experiences are former Philadelphia Tribune reporter Linn Washington and MOVE member Mike Africa Jr. Deadly Standoff is produced by NorthSouth Productions and Pyramid Productions.

Burning Rainbow Farm: Deadly Standoff premieres on Saturday, November 20 at 10pm ET/ 7pm PT. Rainbow Farm is a marijuana farm and campground nestled in the Newberg Township of southern Michigan. The campground is run by Tom Crosslin and his partner Rolland “Rollie” Rohm who held two popular annual marijuana festivals on the farm. After an intoxicated festival goer causes a fatal car accident involving a local teenager the farm falls under investigation for months. Armed with a warrant authorities discover marijuana plants on the farm and charges are brought against Crosslin and Rohm. When they fail to appear for their trial date the FBI arrives but before they could seize the property Crosslin and Rohm burn it to the ground and remain holed up. The standoff sparks a fatal confrontation that would raise questions about whether Crosslin and Rohm actually did aim guns at authorities. Deadly Standoff is produced by NorthSouth Productions and Pyramid Productions.

Texting Killer: The Friends Speak premieres on Saturday, November 27 at 8pm ET/ 5pm PT. In 2012 while on vacation in Florida teenagers Michelle Carter and Conrad Roy started an innocent friendship that would twist into a fatal story that would break new ground in court cases involving digital communications, First Amendment rights and mental health. Roy committed suicide in 2014 just miles from his childhood home in Fairhaven Massachusetts. In the aftermath authorities discovered tens of thousands of text messages between Roy and Carter that showed a dark bond between them in which Carter advocates and encourages Roy to commit suicide. In 2017 Carter was convicted of involuntary manslaughter. At the crux of the case was the question: Can your words actually make someone kill themselves? Sharing their deeply personal experience is Roy’s mother Lynn St. Denis and sisters Camdyn and Morgan who discuss their life with Conrad, what they knew of relationship with Carter, the trial and whether they feel Carter’s punishment was justice served. Discussing his time reporting on the case and trial is retired Massachusetts reporter Curt Brown along with Dr. Eric Bender who works as an Adolescent Forensic Psychologist and gives viewers insight into the mental health aspects of the story. The Friends Speak is produced by Kinetic Content and Pyramid Productions.

Grim Sleeper: The Friends Speak premieres on Sunday, November 28 at 8pm ET/ 5pm PT. Friends close to Lonnie Franklin Jr. recall he was a great single father known for making reasonable deals fixing neighbor’s cars in his backyard garage. What they didn’t know was that he had a murderous alter ego. For more than 20 years Franklin preyed on sex workers in Los Angeles and is responsible for at least 10 murders. As deaths mounted local media referred to the killer as the Southside Slayer, the .25 Caliber Killer and the Strawberry Killer but it was Franklin’s ominous 14 year break from killing that earned him the final nickname as the Grim Sleeper. In Grim Sleeper: The Friends Speak five of Franklin’s former friends and neighbors speak out about their experiences with him including his live-in nanny Charlene Smith who shares details of their personal relationship and the scary changes in his behavior over time. Joining Smith are other former sex workers who crossed paths with Franklin including Dominique Smith who dated him for years and neighbor Richard Harris who shares his stories of Franklin’s disturbing hobby collecting nude photos of women as well as Franklin’s hardline rules about no personal friendships or allowing anyone inside of his house. Giving viewers first-hand insight into the Grim Sleeper case is retired LAPD investigator Cliff Shepard. The Friends Speak is produced by Kinetic Content and Pyramid Productions.

A hotel heiress her reputation was not only built on the back of her prized property holdings including 30 national hotels, New York’s iconic Flatiron building and the Empire State Building it was also built on the backs of her employees who claimed she ripped them off, fired them without cause and ran her properties with an iron fist earning her the nickname from the press as the “Queen of Mean”. Like Gaye, groundbreaking and record setting Latin music star Selena Quintanilla had massive earning potential after her untimely death and also died without a will so who was entitled to her estate? Selena was on the brink of mainstream pop success with the release of her first English language album when one woman’s obsession cut her life short at just 23 years old. Despite constant touring, several albums and a rising fashion brand at the time her death Selena’s estate was worth $326,000 but after her death Selena’s popularity skyrocketed as did the value of her estate. On Wednesday, September 22 at 10pm ET/ 7pm PT Selena: Life, Death & Money reveals the legal clash that unfolded 20 years after her passing when widower Chris Perez is approached to make a TV series about his life with Selena but her father steps in to stop it resulting in an estate dispute about who has the right to tell her story and who is entitled to its massive royalties.

While Selena’s story ended in real tragedy the themes of deceit, passion, heartbreak and love in her life were a perfect fit for a TV drama. In an ode to the master storytelling in daytime dramas The Story of Soaps makes its REELZ premiere on Saturday, September 25 at 8pm ET/ 5pm PT featuring Bryan Cranston, Chandra Wilson, Alec Baldwin and many more along with legendary writers, producers and fervent fans sharing their love for the power of soap operas. The Story of Soaps details why soap operas have been a part of American households for decades giving audiences a daily dose of captivating stories, love-to-hate characters, power couples and nail-biting cliffhangers.

Below are detailed descriptions for September 2021 programming listed by premiere date and time:

CIA vs. Bin Laden: First In Premieres on Sunday, September 5 at 8pm ET/ 5pm PT. CIA vs. Bin Laden: First In is the most revealing documentary produced about the 10 year hunt for Osama Bin Laden by the Central Intelligence Agency. The documentary features interviews with 18 people including the former CIA director, CIA case officers, military leaders, members of European intelligence services and a U.S. Congressman who all had direct roles in the hunt and elimination of the world’s most wanted terrorist. Many of the people most deeply involved with tracking down Bin Laden have been reluctant to share their stories until now. There was simply no benefit for these quiet professionals, their families, or the agencies they served to be in the public eye but they have collectively decided that now is the time to go on record and tell their stories before it’s too late. CIA vs. Bin Laden: First In is produced by KM Plus Media s.r.o., Big Media Holdings, LLC, RMC Production and RMC Films.

Marvin Gaye: Life, Death & Money Premieres on Wednesday, September 15 at 10pm ET/ 7pm PT. On April 1, 1984 legendary soul singer Marvin Gaye was shot and killed inside his California home by his own father after a domestic dispute. Gaye’s family would grieve the death of a son, brother and father who died depressed, drug-addicted and more than $9 million in debt. Without a will the fate of Gaye’s financial legacy was left to a court-appointed bankruptcy attorney to salvage with the family. With savvy marketing of Gaye’s song royalties, image rights and even the official rights to produce his life story the executor of the Gaye estate paid off the debts and accumulated several million dollars in assets. Gaye’s three children, as the heirs under intestate law, reaped the benefits for years. Knowing their father’s value and musical style it’s no surprise that when Gaye’s children heard the 2013 megahit “Blurred Lines” by Robin Thicke, Pharrell Williams and T.I. on the radio alarm bells went off. As they would later argue in court “Blurred Lines” closely mirrored the “feeling” of their father’s 1977 song “Got to Give It Up”. Gaye’s estate attorneys would aim to justify that “Blurred Lines” could not exist without Gaye’s original recording. This would blow open a massive copyright infringement case among Gaye’s estate and the three famous artists ultimately making Gaye’s song a turning point in music copyright history that would have a massive ramifications for artists in the music industry. Marvin Gaye: Life, Death & Money is produced by Buck Productions.

Selena: Life, Death & Money Premieres on Wednesday, September 22 at 10pm ET/ 7pm PT. Known as the “Queen of Tejano Music” at just 23 years old Selena Quintanilla was on the brink of a mainstream pop breakout with the impending release of her first English language album. With major record sales, lucrative endorsements and a burgeoning retail fashion line it appeared as though the rising star would conquer the music world. However, Selena’s life would instead be cut short when a jealous friend and employee named Yolanda Saldívar shoots and kills the young singer in a motel room on March 31, 1995. Selena’s family and fans were shattered but for her family grief soon turned into talk about Selena’s money and legacy after it was revealed she died without a will. Before her death Selena had signed over her image rights directly to her father and manager Abraham Quintanilla. This meant that he alone would have the ability to control Selena’s name, voice and image which would dictate the future earnings for him, Selena’s sibling bandmates and her widower Chris Perez. This is where the future estate war unknowingly begins for Perez against his father-in-law. In 2012 Perez independently releases the bestselling autobiography “To Selena With Love” and the book is so successful it is optioned to become a TV series but not before Perez is hit with a $1 million lawsuit by Abraham. According to Abraham, Perez has no right to adapt his book into a TV show about his late wife. What follows is a legal battle that cracks open long-buried family tensions and raises questions about who has the right to tell Selena’s story and who stands to profit. Selena: Life, Death & Money is produced by Buck Productions.

A look at the remarkable life of a true comedy giant leads August 2021 premieres with Autopsy: The Last Hours of… “Jerry Lewis” on Sunday, August 1 at 8pm ET/ 5pm PT. His trademark physical humor inspired generations of comedians and earned him the nickname the ‘King of Comedy’ but behind his image as a benevolent clown who raised billions for charity there were rumors of a different Lewis. Was there a secret hiding behind the funny façade Lewis so successfully perfected over the years and did his signature pratfall comedy style play a role in what eventually took his life?

Kicking off REELZFest programming on Saturday, August 14 at 8pm ET/ 5pm PT is Jim Morrison: Rider on the Storm exploring the mercurial journey of The Doors frontman whose electrifying performances, rebel spirit and provocative lyrics changed rock music. But behind his mysterious rock star poet persona was a troubled and restless soul trapped in a life damaged by heavy substance abuse and eventually mired in controversy after he became the first ever rock star arrested on stage during a live performance. Now in rare archive interviews hear Morrison in his own words discuss fame, becoming a sex symbol and how he pushed back against any label. While Morrison symbolized the psychedelic rock star of the ’60s the band with the mind-bending sound was Pink Floyd. On Sunday, August 15 at 8pm ET/ 5pm PT Pink Floyd: Breaking the Band examines the rapid ascent and trickling breakup of the wildly successful group that sold more than 250 million albums. But before Pink Floyd took off their lead singer and co-founder was ousted from the band for excessive and debilitating drug use. The band would not derail and with the release of their iconic “The Dark Side of the Moon” album everything changed. Huge money, global fame and power struggles chipped away at Pink Floyd but what exactly made this unique mega selling band finally fall apart? Meteoric success, toxic jealousy and creative rivalries are also pillars in the story of progressive rock juggernaut Genesis. On Sunday, August 15 at 9pm ET/ 6pm PT Genesis: Breaking the Band former lead guitarist Steve Hackett shares his first-hand experiences of the band’s incredible success, the story behind his departure and witnessing the clashes between singer Peter Gabriel and drummer Phil Collins that would spawn their remarkable solo careers.

Then on Saturday, August 21 at 8pm ET/ 5pm PT it’s the REELZ premiere of music documentary Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey exploring heavy metal music as a cultural phenomenon with its legends Tony Iommi, Alice Cooper and Rob Zombie among others giving their take on the genre, its global fanbase and wild stories from decades of performing. Within the heavy metal music family is a branch of glam metal epitomized by the band Whitesnake with its lead singer David Coverdale’s big voice, searing guitar riffs, tight leather pants and big hair. On Sunday, August 22 at 8pm ET/ 5pm PT Whitesnake: Breaking the Band see the band that emerged from English badlands hungry to conquer the world but to hone the sound that would rock America it would take 10 years and a constantly changing lineup. With more than 15 million albums sold Whitesnake was a success but it was all built on Coverdale’s ruthless and singular ambition and at height of their power he threw it all away. The pantheon of hard rock is not complete without Alice Cooper. Dubbed “The Godfather of Shock Rock” Alice Cooper’s signature brand of heavy metal included a wild and often controversial stage show that involved pyrotechnics, live animals and fake blood. Before its lead singer legally changed his name to Alice Cooper, the name was for a rock band that achieved huge success in record time but the pressure to keep performing turned toxic. In Alice Cooper: Breaking the Band on Sunday, August 22 at 9pm ET/ 6pm PT see the story of the legendary group whose story went from a party to a horror show.

As possibly the most fascinating, successful and troubled superstars of all time Michael Jackson was a singular talent who captivated crowds and stirred strong reactions among fans and observers. Alongside the remarkable performances and die hard fans was a deeply damaged man. In Michael Jackson: Inside His Mind on Thursday, August 26 at 9pm ET/ 6pm PT psychiatrist Dr. Bob Johnson psychologically profiles the complex mind of the pop icon from his abusive childhood to his insatiable need for attention and the origins for compulsions that drove his often erratic behavior. On Saturday, August 28 at 8pm ET/ 5pm PT Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage makes its REELZ premiere with the story of the Canadian rock band power trio exploring their 40 years of rock and roll success, setbacks and soaring popularity. From the Rush’s working class roots and struggle to land a record deal to globetrotting tours with legends including KISS this is the complete inside story of one of the most influential bands of all time. Closing out REELZFest on Sunday, August 29 are the back-to-back premieres of Metallica: Breaking the Band at 8pm ET/ 5pm PT and AC/DC: Breaking the Band at 9pm ET/ 6pm PT about the fabled bands who share stories of pushing through heartbreaking tragedies on their way to making music history. Metallica is the highest selling heavy metal bands in history with five consecutive chart-topping albums along with 1,600 shows and nearly $1.5 billion in gross sales. But their massive musical success came with destructive excess and intra-band rivalries led to mayhem with extreme personalities battling for the spotlight. But as the young band ascended to its lofty status tragedy struck when bassist Cliff Burton dies after the band’s motorhome crashes. The death would reverberate through Metallica for years and it would take hundreds of thousands of dollars in therapy to get the band back on track. Selling more than 200 million records and playing more than 2,500 concerts worldwide explosive Australian rockers AC/DC blew away everything in front of them. The band’s two founding brothers Malcolm and Angus Young had a relentless drive to succeed that would leave carnage in its wake and splinter the band. Former bassist Mark Evans shares his experiences from the legendary in-studio guitar solo by Angus that literally lit the studio on fire to his fallout with Angus that led to Evans leaving the band.

Below are detailed descriptions for August 2021 programming listed by premiere date and time:

Autopsy: The Last Hours of… “Jerry Lewis” Premieres on Sunday, August 1 at 8pm ET/ 5pm PT. Jerry Lewis was still working into his 90s up until just a few months before his death. But 75 years in the limelight took its toll on this comic legend. His body paid the price for his knockabout clown image which centered around elaborate and frequent pratfalls after he suffered a permanent back injury at just 38 years old that would cause him a lifetime of chronic pain and led to an addiction to opioid painkillers. He was a heavy smoker for more than 40 years and the doctors discovered congenital heart issues when he was just a teenager. He died at the age of 91 of cardiac disease but what was it that kept Lewis living and working so long? Renowned forensic pathologist and medical examiner Dr. Michael Hunter doesn’t think his cardiac failure is the whole story behind his death. Dr. Hunter delves deep into Lewis’ records to discover whether there was something else going on in his body that contributed to his eventual demise. Sharing their personal stories of Lewis are his daughter Danielle Lewis and widow Sandra Lewis. Autopsy: The Last Hours of… is produced by Potato, part of ITV Studios.

Jim Morrison: Rider on the Storm Premieres on Saturday, August 14 at 8pm ET/ 5pm PT. In July 1965 Jim Morrison ran into classmate and keyboardist Ray Manzarek on a beach in Venice California and the two decided to start a rock band. Just two short years later The Doors hit “Light My Fire” topped the Billboard Hot 100. As one of the most memorable artists of the 20th century the creative rebel brilliance of Morrison was only matched by his penchant for raw self-destruction which culminated in his untimely death at just 27 years old. Jim Morrison: Rider on the Storm explores every chapter of the mysterious rocker’s life and his search for his true identity. Did Morrison himself even know who he wanted to be? Morrison’s extraordinary story reveals the rock icon as a chameleon constantly shifting personalities and personas to manifest his wild artistic sparks. From the seeds of his anti-authority spirit planted in his youth from clashes with his strict U.S. Navy Rear Admiral father to the excesses of ’60s rock stardom hear Morrison in his own words discuss his youth and becoming a celebrity. Morrison could be a sensitive friend, an aspiring poet, a caring lover or an out of control alcoholic hell bent on confrontation which was all seen by The Doors road manager Vince Treaner who shares his experience with the complex rocker. Did Morrison’s constant quest to express his artistic urges and rebel against any authority become the catalyst for his untimely death? Jim Morrison: Rider on the Storm is produced by Potato, part of ITV Studios.

Pink Floyd: Breaking the Band Premieres on Sunday, August 15 at 8pm ET/ 5pm PT. With their astounding 250 million albums sold Pink Floyd is among the most successful rock bands of all time but the band was nearly broken before they rocketed to success. The British rockers had always been at the center of ’60s psychedelic rock era with their experimental sound incorporating sound effects and playing live gigs with long and improvised sets but lead guitarist and singer Syd Barrett took it too far. Barrett became so engulfed in his addiction to drugs the band ousted him and were back to the drawing board. The band’s bass player Roger Waters picked up the reigns and began writing the album that would become “The Dark Side of the Moon”. Upon its release in 1973 the album went straight to the top of the Billboard 100 and stayed in the charts for a record setting 18 years and would go on to sell more than 45 million copies alone making Pink Floyd certified superstars. But the extreme swing in fortune for the band after toiling for years began to rip them at the seams. Add on the pressure of trying to follow up an iconic album and mix in intra-band power struggles and Pink Floyd was a powder keg. “The Dark Side of the Moon” like the four records that followed it was the brainchild of Waters who became so convinced Pink Floyd’s success was only down to him that he tried to bury the band so he could prosper alone. Breaking the Band is produced by Potato, part of ITV Studios.

Genesis: Breaking the Band Premieres on Sunday, August 15 at 9pm ET/ 6pm PT. One of the biggest bands of the 20th century Genesis sold more 100 million albums worldwide and sold out thousands of shows. But their story is as remarkable for the band’s success as it is for their extraordinary transformation from cult progressive rockers to pop-rock superstars. Along the way power struggles saw the band fragment with lead singer Peter Gabriel and eventually drummer Phil Collins both leaving to launch massively successful solo careers. See the band’s remarkable creation and survival story from their early beginnings in a sleepy part of England to sold out global tours and chart topping hits as they infused a decade with their iconic sound. Genesis lead guitarist Steve Hackett shares his personal experience detailing his reaction to Gabriel getting a hot Hollywood offer that saw him leave the band on a whim as well as the intense creative clashes that led to Gabriel’s final departure from Genesis to start his solo career. When Gabriel left Genesis was bankrupt, without its lead singer and written off by the music press as yesterday’s news. What followed was an amazing turn of fortune driven by a refocused group with Collins as the lead singer as the band recorded their most commercially successful album ever. Still, creative differences remained as did financial struggles. Hackett also reveals what prompted his own departure from the band leaving Genesis to just three members before yet another and final breakup. Breaking the Band is produced by Potato, part of ITV Studios.

Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey Makes Its REELZ Premiere on Saturday, August 21 at 8pm ET/ 5pm PT. An illuminating examination of the heavy metal music subculture through the lens of anthropologist and lifelong heavy metal music fan Sam Dunn who takes viewers on a global journey asking why this music has been consistently stereotyped, dismissed and condemned yet loved so passionately by millions of fans. The documentary dives into the defining details of the genre answering the questions: What group is considered the first heavy metal band? What sounds define heavy metal? Who is really behind the popularization of the heavy metal horn hand gesture? Viewers also see why heavy metal artists have long had an obsession with some of life’s most provocative subjects including sexuality, religion, violence and death. This groundbreaking documentary is the first of its kind presenting both a defense of a long-misunderstood art form and a window for the outsider into the spectacle that is heavy metal. Sharing their first hand experiences as legends of the genre are Tony Iommi, Alice Cooper, Dio, Dee Snider as well as Tom Morello and Rob Zombie among others. Metal: A Headbanger’s Journey is produced by Banger Films.

Whitesnake: Breaking the Band Premieres on Sunday, August 22 at 8pm ET/ 5pm PT. Whitesnake was the brainchild of former Deep Purple frontman David Coverdale. They appeared on the English music scene in 1978 with raunchy lyrics and a big blues rock sound. Over the next 12 years Coverdale’s grit and determination went on to drive the band to become one of the biggest successes of the “Hair Metal Age”. But there were plenty of casualties on the way with a host of lineup changes as Coverdale ruthlessly searched for the winning formula. Hit songs like “Here I Go Again” and “Fool For Your Loving” along with famously big hair, Coverdale’s unique voice and stellar guitar playing pushed them to the forefront of the glam rock consciousness. With an image that went from blues musicians with tailored moustaches to leather clad rockers with bouffant hair Whitesnake sold millions of albums worldwide and their sexy glamourous videos defined an era but the band’s story is one filled with personal rifts and an epic meltdown. Breaking the Band is produced by Potato, part of ITV Studios.

Alice Cooper: Breaking the Band Premieres on Sunday, August 22 at 9pm ET/ 6pm PT. The band Alice Cooper rose from total anonymity to become one of the highest grossing groups in the world capturing the imagination of a generation with iconic hits including “School’s Out” and their provocative often controversial stage show. But the pressure to continue their success was immense. And when their intriguing frontman began to monopolize the spotlight it rankled the other band members. Mix in addictions, jealousy and greed and it would only be three years after their first hit that the band Alice Cooper would implode. The lead singer changed his name to Alice Cooper and became a cultural icon while the other members of the group quietly moved into the background. Breaking the Band is produced by Potato, part of ITV Studios.

Michael Jackson: Inside His Mind Premieres on Thursday, August 26 at 9pm ET/ 6pm PT. Innocent or guilty? Black or white? Man or child? Extrovert or introvert? Michael Jackson left many questions about his life unanswered. His controversial decisions involving personal relationships, child care, spending habits and drug dependency make his story one of the great riddles of pop culture and music. So who was this man and why did he operate in such strange ways with such bizarre consequences? In Michael Jackson: Inside His Mind psychiatrist Dr. Bob Johnson examines Jackson’s childhood, relationship with his father and siblings, incredible early superstardom followed by an adult life of untold riches, horrific accusations and exile. In doing so he stitches together the man behind the mask of plastic surgery, misinformation and mystery. What led Jackson to a strange lifelong obsession with childhood that eventually contributed to his own self-destruction? Did his life as a global star where normal boundaries didn’t exist make him believe he was untouchable and influence his own moral compass? How did his experiences of childhood shape his own seemingly disturbed reality? Go inside the complex and controversial mind of Michael Jackson with insight from several people who knew Jackson personally including former manager Dieter Wiesner, friend Mark Lester, The Jackson 5 keyboard player Ronnie Rancifer and Jackson family neighbor Reynaud Jones among others. Michael Jackson: Inside His Mind is produced by Honey Bee.

Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage Makes Its REELZ Premiere on Saturday, August 28 at 8pm ET/ 5pm PT. As one of the most influential rock bands ever Rush ranks third in consecutive gold or platinum albums after The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. The band’s devoted following numbers in the millions worldwide and their music is revered by generations of musicians. Now their story is the focus of Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage chronicling the group’s 40-year history in a comprehensive exploration of the extraordinary power trio, the evolution of their sound and celebrating their continuing popularity. Using extensive archival footage see the resilient rockers lead guitarist Alex Lifeson along with singer and bassist Geddy Lee and drummer Neil Peart from when they started the band in the late ’60s through to the present. Interviewees include colleagues and contemporaries Billy Corgan, Gene Simmons, Trent Reznor and South Park creator Matt Stone who share what they believe makes the band so special. Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage is produced by Banger Films.

Metallica: Breaking the Band Premieres on Sunday, August 29 at 8pm ET/ 5pm PT. With a combined fortune of more than $900 million and a band life spanning four decades Metallica are undisputed royalty in heavy metal history. Their 1991 album “Metallica” also known as “The Black Album” was certified 16x platinum and changed the course of heavy metal along with plunging the young quartet into mega stardom. But it wasn’t always an easy road. Struggles with aggression, addiction, jealousy and the death of a beloved band member have sent Metallica in and out of darkness since the band’s inception and yet they continue to thrive. Metallica: Breaking the Band reveals the inside story of the trials and tribulations of one of the biggest, baddest metal bands on earth. Sharing his first-hand experiences working with the band is their former manager Jon Zazula and studio producer Flemming Rasmussen. Breaking the Band is produced by Potato, part of ITV Studios.

AC/DC: Breaking the Band Premieres on Sunday, August 29 at 9pm ET/ 6pm PT. Brothers Malcolm and Angus Young are the heart and co-founders of Australian rock band AC/DC. The two were the youngest of eight siblings and grew up in a working-class family where rock and roll was the only life they ever knew. Both brothers had a relentless and take no prisoners attitude towards success and they shared the dream to get to the top and become guitar toting multi-millionaires. Their desire to conquer the world with their singular brand of heavy rock came before everything including family relationships and over 35 years many of those around them would be chewed up and spat out as AC/DC rose to world domination. But even as its members achieved global success beyond their wildest dreams AC/DC would be haunted by tragedy after tragedy. Breaking the Band is produced by Potato, part of ITV Studios.

Kicking off July premieres is Shark Terror: USS Indianapolis on Saturday, July 10 at 8pm ET/ 5pm PT about courage in the face of unimaginable odds. The sinking of the USS Indianapolis is the U.S. Navy’s largest ever single loss of life at sea and for the crew who survived the ship sinking they faced a daunting struggle for survival on the open waters of the Pacific Ocean. Nearly 900 sailors confronted the threat of death from above, below and within combating sun exposure, swarming hungry sharks and salt water poisoning. Then on Sunday, July 11 in back-to-back new episodes of Autopsy: The Last Hours of… starting at 8pm ET/ 5pm PT it’s the story of Luke Perry who skyrocketed to fame in the ’90s as bad boy heartthrob Dylan McKay on Beverly Hills, 90210 whose death at just 52-years old stunned fans. To help unlock the mystery of his passing medical examiner and forensic pathologist Dr. Michael Hunter examines the case including new medical research relating to Perry’s health that may indicate his face was hiding a secret to his untimely death. Another life cut short is that of fashion mogul Kate Spade whose shocking suicide at 55 years old thrust mental health into the discussion surrounding her death. Autopsy: The Last Hours of… “Kate Spade” at 9pm ET/ 6pm PT examines her story which on the surface seemed like a triumphant success as Spade was a loving and dedicated mother, wife and business woman with no vices or medical issues. So why in the prime of her life did she feel there was no other option but to end it all?

On Thursday, July 15 it’s back-to-back new original specials about infamous scandals and tragedies that captivated the nation with Amy Fisher: Kill for Me at 9pm ET/ 6pm PT followed by Susan Smith: Sex Behind Bars at 10pm ET/ 7pm PT. In 1992 16-year-old Amy Fisher shot the wife of her lover in the head in a gruesome act of violence that ended a salacious series of events that involved crimes committed against and by minors. In Amy Fisher: Kill for Me Fisher’s former friend Steven Sleeman sheds new light on the story detailing his first-hand account of the murder-for-hire plot hatched by Fisher. Then in Susan Smith: Sex Behind Bars it’s been more than 25 years since Susan Smith was sentenced to life in prison for the drowning murders of her two children. While in prison Smith had sex with two prison guards who would eventually both lose their jobs and face convictions for illegal conduct. One of those guards, Alfred Rowe, shares a shockingly candid account of how the devious double murderess seduced him and how their secret sexual relationship left a devastating path of carnage in its wake.

Wildlife icon and passionate conservationist Steve Irwin wrestled crocodiles on The Crocodile Hunter watched by millions. When it emerged that the 44-year-old Irwin had been killed from a stingray barb to the heart there was disbelief given his decades of experience with dangerous animals and the fact that stingrays are relatively docile. Autopsy: The Last Hours of… “Steve Irwin” on Sunday, July 18 at 8pm ET/ 5pm PT examines Irwin’s untimely death through the lens of his health leading up to that fateful day. Was there anything in his medical history that played a factor in the tragedy? Like Irwin, magician Roy Horn wowed audiences working with dangerous animals in what would become the world famous Siegfried and Roy shows featuring tigers, big cats and other large animals. Roy performed more than 30,000 live shows in 45 years with Siegfried grossing more than $1 billion but the show abruptly ended after a tiger attacked Horn. He survived but was partially paralyzed and lived for several more years but on May 8, 2020 at the age of 75 Horn became one of the first celebrities to die from complications with COVID-19. Autopsy: The Last Hours of… “Roy Horn” on Sunday, July 18 at 9pm ET/ 6pm PT examines what was going on inside Horn’s body that left him vulnerable to the disease.

Leonard Nimoy gave life to one of television’s greatest characters in the half-human, half-Vulcan alien Spock on Star Trek. Although he spent only three years on the original Star Trek series before it was canceled Nimoy demonstrated a relentless work ethic. For nearly two decades his constant drive to achieve eventually started to cast a shadow on his health. In Autopsy: The Last Hours of… “Leonard Nimoy” on Sunday, July 25 at 8pm ET/ 5pm PT see how years of smoking cigarettes led to the complex lung disorder chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). If proper treatment is established early people with COPD can live for several years so why did Nimoy die so quickly after his diagnosis? Joining Spock as a treasured and instantly recognizable character is Verne Troyer’s Mini-Me in the hit Austin Powers movie franchise which launched Troyer to global stardom but his success came with a heavy toll on his health. With Troyer’s fame came over indulgence in the form of heavy drinking exasperating his struggles with depression and severely stressing his body. His death at 49 years old from a reported suicide by excessive alcohol consumption seemed like a tragic end but in Autopsy: The Last Hours of… “Verne Troyer” on Sunday, July 25 at 9pm ET/ 6pm PT, Dr. Hunter reveals an integral and overlooked piece of Troyer’s autopsy report that could turn the suicide conclusion on its head.

While returning from a top secret mission to deliver components for the nuclear bomb Little Boy the heavy cruiser USS Indianapolis with 1,195 crewmen aboard is torpedoed and sunk. The rapid decent of the fragmenting ship immediately took hundreds of trapped sailors to their deaths. For the surviving 900 sailors the sinking ship was just the beginning of their nightmare. Shark Terror: USS Indianapolis reveals the terrifying real life story of the doomed cruiser and its crew as the surviving sailors faced four days of brutal sun exposure, dehydration and worst of all relentless attacks from countless hungry and aggressive sharks. Initially packs of Oceanic Whitetip and Tiger sharks focused on the floating dead but eventually they massed into a ruthless army and picked off the injured and struggling killing an estimated 150 sailors. Ultimately through shear tenacity and courage 316 survived the horrific ordeal. The disaster would become the greatest single loss of life at sea from a single ship in U.S. Navy history. The scale, shock and tragedy of the story served as inspiration for several blockbuster movies including Jaws and USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage starring Nicholas Cage. Shark Terror: USS Indianapolis is produced by Hoff Productions.
