Los Angeles, CA (October 1, 2021) – A breast cancer diagnosis doesn’t mean the end of your life. With research and advances in care, more and more women are discovering a new beginning, like metastatic breast cancer thriver, Shannen Doherty. As part of Lifetime’s annual Stop Breast Cancer for Life public affairs initiative, Doherty, who stars alongside Kelly Hu, Sylvia Kwan and Patricia Velasquez in the touching film, List of a Lifetime, directed her costars in a special content message in support of the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF), reminding women that early detection is key and to get their mammograms today.

To further support this commitment, A+E Networks also announced a donation of $250,000 to BCRF. In an extension of the partnership, BCRF has also named a Lifetime Award, an annual grant in support of a leading breast cancer researcher.

This year’s campaign also features First Lady Jill Biden in a new PSA to encourage women to put their breast health on the top of their “to do list.” The PSA will run on air and on Lifetime’s social platforms. Dr. Biden’s advocacy for more breast cancer education and prevention began in 1993, when four of her friends were diagnosed with breast cancer. Following that year, she launched the Biden Breast Health Initiative to educate Delaware high school girls about the importance of early detection. As First Lady, Dr. Biden continues to stress the importance of cancer research and early detection efforts, especially in underrepresented and rural areas.

“Lifetime’s Stop Breast Cancer for Life initiative is deeply personal for so many women and their families who have been affected by breast cancer,” said Paul Buccieri, President and Chairman, A+E Networks Group. “We are dedicated to using our platforms and partnerships to raise awareness, encourage women to get their mammograms, and mobilize support for research so that together we can eradicate breast cancer for future generations.”

“In partnering with the largest private funders of breast cancer research in the world, Lifetime is making a tangible impact on advancing research,” said BCRF President and CEO Myra Biblowit. “By using their platform to amplify evidence-based research and education, they are undoubtedly helping to empower women with critical knowledge.”

Presented by Native Deodorant, List of a Lifetime premieres October 10th at 8pm ET/PT and tells the story of Brenda Lee (Hu) who’s prompted to look for the daughter she gave up for adoption decades ago after a breast cancer diagnosis. After finding Talia (Kwan) and sharing her devasting news, Talia convinces Brenda to make a bucket list of everything she wants to do, promising to help her complete everything on the list. While keeping Brenda a secret from her adoptive mother Diana (Doherty), Talia grows closer to the mother she never knew. Meanwhile, Brenda discovers a meaningful relationship with Talia she didn’t know she needed, and a reason to fight for her life.

Following the movie, the aftershow Beyond the List with Shannen Doherty will debut, featuring exclusive conversations with Doherty and the movie’s cast, new never-before-seen photos during Doherty’s breast cancer journey, as well as information from top oncologists Dr. Elise Port and Dr. Philomena McAndrew. The aftershow also features intimate testimonials from within the A+E Networks family featuring employees affected by breast cancer.

The special content will begin airing today, October 1, to kick off National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and run throughout the month on Lifetime and LMN and extended off channel through distributor partnerships. The special content will also be shared on Lifetime’s social media platforms and on Mylifetime.com which will also feature breast cancer resources, treatment plan guides, doctor check lists, facts about breast cancer, and stories of survivors and thrivers.

The campaign also features four breast cancer themed movies available on VOD during October. The inspiring stories of resilience, courage and strength include the biopic Olivia Newton John: Hopelessly Devoted to You, detailing Olivia’s personal battle with breast cancer, Four Extraordinary Woman about one man’s emotional as four loved ones battle breast cancer, Living Proof executive produced by Renee Zellweger and starring Harry Connick Jr. as Dr. Slamon who helped develop the breakthrough drug Herceptin that helps cure positive cancers and Five, a collection of five interwoven short films exploring the impact of breast cancer directed by Jennifer Aniston, Demi Moore, Alicia Keyes, Patty Jenkins and Penelope Spheeris.

In addition, as part of this year’s campaign, the Lifetime Store is donating 15% of each purchase to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation all month long. https://www.lifetimetvstore.com/

In 2021, breast cancer became the most common cancer globally, accounting for 12% of all new cancer cases worldwide according to the World Health Organization. “If you are experiencing or have experienced abuse, I want you to know I believe you, I support you and please know there is help out there,” said Raisman. “I know a huge part of my healing journey has been finding a support system and someone to go to for help. I encourage you, whenever you feel ready, to find a support system because you deserve to feel safe and validated. I recognize finding a support system isn’t always easy but please don’t give up. There are good people out there who will help you. Everything you are feeling is real and I believe you.”

ALY RAISMAN USES HER VOICE TO LIFT THE VOICES OF OTHERS FOR THE NEW DOCUMENTARY SPECIAL, “ALY RAISMAN: DARKNESS TO LIGHT,” PREMIERING SEPTEMBER 24 ON LIFETIME

Focusing on How Sexual Abuse Impacts Communities, and Discusses the Pathway To Healing, Special Includes Appearances By Metoo Movement Founder Tarana Burke, Clinical Director of Rainn Ebonique Bethea, Anton Gunn Board Member Of Darkness To Light, And Author and Advocate Rachael Denhollander

September 8, 2021 (Los Angeles, CA) – Lifetime partners with decorated gymnast, advocate and survivor, Aly Raisman to raise awareness about the prevalence of sexual abuse across all ages and backgrounds while supporting survivors on their pathway towards healing in the three-hour documentary special, Aly Raisman: Darkness to Light, premiering Friday, September 24 at 8p/7c. The special follows Raisman as she advocates for survivors while sharing personal accounts and coping strategies that have helped on her own journey of healing. Raisman meets with individuals who have suffered abuse, revealing the trauma that lasts from childhood to adulthood, and the triggers that affect them – and her – physically and emotionally. By sharing their stories and insights gleaned along the way, their experiences are validated, and this community of survivors are reminded that they are never alone in their journey and that there is hope.

“Aly Raisman continues to be a true champion as she uses her platform to address widespread abuse, elevate voices of survivors from all walks of life, and provide an opportunity for survivors and experts to come together to talk about how to heal,” said Amy Winter, EVP and Head of Programming, Lifetime and LMN. “Lifetime is proud to partner with Aly on this special which we believe will create meaningful conversation and provide very real takeaway to raise awareness and help those out there grappling with abuse.”

“The inspiration behind this project is to show support for survivors and let them know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel,” said Raisman. “Our society has a long history of enabling abusers instead of supporting survivors and this is a huge problem. I hope people will tune in to learn some tools to recognize and help prevent abuse, and understand just how important it is to believe and support survivors. And for all the survivors out there, please know that you are not alone, you will not feel like this forever, and that there is hope.”

World Champion and gold medalist Aly Raisman courageously addressed her abuser in a Michigan courtroom in January 2018, rallying other survivors to step forward and demand justice and accountability. Her voice helped set off a tectonic shift, exposing the pervasive system of abuse and enabling that has harmed America’s youth.

Aly Raisman: Darkness to Light reveals the tumultuous journey to healing from the perspective of survivors. The special explores one of the largest child sexual abuse cases in the country where a beloved community pediatrician abused several generations of children and showcases the aftermath for the survivors in Johnstown, PA, follows conversations with a male survivor of the Ohio State abuse scandal, and details how disabled and transgender communities can be specific targets of abuse.

In addition, the special features an exclusive conversation with meToo founder Tarana Burke, in depth information from experts from RAINN (Rape, Abuse, Incest National Network) and the nonprofit Darkness to Light, whose mission is to empower adults to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. Aly Raisman: Darkness to Light closes with a roundtable discussion with experts and advocates – including Raisman, Anton Gunn and Rachael Denhollander – on how to help prevent child sexual abuse while providing tools on how to move forward.

The special is supported by Lifetime’s Stop Violence Against Women campaign, which brings together a coalition of nonprofit organizations to provide resources to those in need and features a PSA for the nonprofit Raisman works with Darkness to Light that will air during the broadcast of the special. Helpline information for RAINN’s National Assault Hotline and the Suicide Prevention Lifeline will also be shared throughout the special’s airing.

For over 35 years, Lifetime has championed the stories and voices of women, most recently igniting global conversations on sexual violence with the powerful, award-winning documentaries Surviving R. Kelly and Surviving Jeffrey Epstein.

Aly Raisman: Darkness to Light is executive produced by Aly Raisman; Steve Ascher, Kristy Sabat and Patty Ivins Specht for Six West Media(TM)group, Kyell Thomas, Emily Hejlik, and Peter Carlisle for Octagon while Amy Winter and Shura Davison executive produce for Lifetime.

About Janet Jackson

Janet Jackson is one of the most influential entertainers of the modern era. Her music has won her 5 GRAMMY(R) Awards, 2 Emmy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, a nomination for an Academy Award along with dozens of American Music Awards, MTV Video Music Awards and Billboard Music Awards. She has received accolades as an actress as well including the NAACP Best Supporting Actor award. Janet is a published author, dancer, businessperson, philanthropist and one of biggest-selling artists in popular music history. With sales of over 180 million records worldwide, Janet Jackson stands as one of the best-selling artists of all time with a string of hits that have left an indelible impression on pop culture. She is the record holder for the biggest selling debut tour in history and is the first woman to debut in the Top 10 of the Hot 100 charts. She also stands as one of only four artists to have a #1 album for four successive decades alongside Barbra Streisand, Bruce Springsteen and U2. Even today she continues to make an undeniable impact. In 2018, her single, “Made for Now” with Daddy Yankee, released by her own Rhythm Nation Records, hit #1 on the Dance Clubs Songs chart making it her 20th single on the chart in the span of her career. In 2019, she was inducted the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame alongside her brothers and in that same year her critically acclaimed Las Vegas residency, “Metamorphosis” closed out to record breaking ticket sales with only 18 dates at the Park MGM’s Park Theater. As reported by Billboard Boxscore, the legendary singer, dancer, songwriter, producer, and actress is among the biggest Vegas performers of this decade, ahead of Celine Dion (2011), Britney Spears (2013) and the Backstreet Boys (2017). On February 4, 2021 Janet Jackson’s iconic mega platinum-selling third album Control turned 35. The album also returned to the top of the charts, hitting #1 on the Apple Top 40 US Pop Album chart. Led by five chart-busting hit singles – “What Have You Done for Me Lately,” “Nasty,” “Control,” “When I Think Of You,” – with their complementary, tightly choreographed music videos – and “Let’s Wait Awhile,” Control became Jackson’s first No. 1 Pop album. The album also made Billboard chart history for having the longest continuous run on the Hot 100 with singles from one album, ultimately tallying a remarkable 65 consecutive weeks from that perch. To date, Control has sold more than 10 million copies worldwide.
