Amazon Freevee Picks Up Second Season of “American Rust,” With Emmy-Winner Jeff Daniels Returning to Star and Executive Produce Alongside Golden Globe-Winner Maura Tierney

Crime drama from Oscar-nominee Dan Futterman and Tony Award-nominee Adam Rapp portrays the familiar realities of small-town American life

CULVER CITY, California – June 9, 2022 – Today, Amazon Freevee (formerly IMDb TV) announced it will pick up a second season of American Rust, starring Jeff Daniels and Maura Tierney. Produced by Boat Rocker and executive produced by Daniels, Dan Futterman, and Adam Rapp, the second season of the compelling crime drama set in a Pennsylvania Rust Belt town will stream exclusively on Freevee.

Based on Philipp Meyer’s critically acclaimed novel of the same name, the first season of American Rust explored the tattered American Dream in a Rust Belt town in southwest Pennsylvania through the eyes of police chief Del Harris (Daniels). Harris becomes compromised when the son of the woman he loves (Tierney) is accused of murder, and he is forced to decide what he’s willing to do to protect him. Production on the second season is scheduled to begin later this year with Daniels and Tierney returning.

“I’m grateful to Amazon Freevee for giving us the chance to make Season Two of American Rust. Set inside a struggling American small town, our authentic, realistically told story is built for streaming. The movies they don’t make anymore are being made as series at places like Amazon Freevee. It’s where I want to be,” said Jeff Daniels.

“American Rust is exactly the type of gritty and engaging storytelling Amazon Freevee audiences love, and we could not be more excited to bring this prestige series to our customers, free of charge,” said Lauren Anderson and Ryan Pirozzi, co-heads of content and programming at Amazon Freevee. “We can’t wait to dive in with Boat Rocker and Dan Futterman to continue the story that intrigued audiences during the first season, and to see the evolution of characters so expertly portrayed by Jeff and Maura in this next chapter.”

“We’re delighted to work with the wonderful team at Amazon Freevee to bring American Rust back for a second season,” said Steve Lescroart, president, Boat Rocker Studios, Scripted. “The source material for this series is incredibly rich, and when you add in the world-class talents of Dan Futterman, Jeff Daniels, Maura Tierney, Adam Rapp, and the entire cast and crew, Season Two is sure to enthrall viewers who enjoy premium content. We’re really pleased to have the opportunity to continue telling this story.”

In addition to Daniels, Futterman, and Rapp, American Rust is also executive produced by Paul Martino, Michael De Luca, and Katie O’Connell Marsh for Boat Rocker, and Elisa Ellis.

American Rust is produced and distributed globally by Boat Rocker.

Amazon Freevee Announces Greenlight of “Tribunal,” From Creator and Executive Producer Judge Judy Sheindlin

Seasoned veterans Judge Patricia DiMango and Judge Tanya Acker will be joined by former District Attorney Adam Levy in new courtroom series, with Petri Hawkins Byrd serving as bailiff
CULVER CITY, California – April 28, 2022 – Today, Amazon Freevee, formerly IMDb TV, announced a pickup order for the court program Tribunal. Created and executive produced by television icon Judge Judy Sheindlin, Tribunal will feature a panel of three judges collectively adjudicating real cases. Uniquely, Tribunal will add a video element to the court format, allowing viewers to follow scenes surrounding the events of each case.

The order follows the Season One success of Judge Sheindlin’s first streaming series, Judy Justice, which, in its inaugural season, was the number one Original program on Amazon Freevee in first streams and hours watched, with customers viewing more than 40 million hours to date. The program, which released new episodes every weekday, was the streaming industry’s first series with a daily episodic release cadence, and has been recently renewed for a second season.

Tribunal is a court program presided over by Judge Patricia DiMango, a former New York State Supreme Court Justice and Administrative Judge of the New York State Supreme Court, Criminal Term, Kings County; Judge Tanya Acker, a Yale Law School graduate, experienced civil litigator, former Judge Pro Tem in Los Angeles County Superior Court, and Adam Levy, former Putnam County, New York District Attorney, and an instructor for the National Institute of Trial Advocacy and New York Prosecutors Training Institute. Levy, Judge Sheindlin’s son, is the third generation continuing her legal legacy. Judge Sheindlin’s granddaughter – and Levy’s daughter – Sarah Rose is the law clerk on Judy Justice. Additionally, Petri Hawkins Byrd will return to the courtroom, serving as the program’s bailiff.

“Tribunal is an exciting new format which combines traditional court with a video-enhanced presentation,” said Judge Judy Sheindlin. “The panel of judges offer a dynamic combination of different backgrounds, experiences, and opinions that are unique, unparalleled, and compelling.”

“With the strong support our customers have shown for Judy Justice, we’re excited to add another Judge Sheindlin program to our slate. Judge Sheindlin has been a pioneer in creating premium courtroom content for more than 25 years and Tribunal reinforces our vision of a modern television network that embraces day-part agnostic programming,” said Lauren Anderson and Ryan Pirozzi, co-heads of content and programming at Freevee.

Tribunal is created and executive produced by Judge Judith Sheindlin. Scott Koondel will also serve as an executive producer.

“We’re delighted to be extending our partnership with Amazon Freevee. Over the past year we’ve worked closely with the team to bring Judy Justice to customers, and have been thrilled with the reception,” said executive producer Scott Koondel. “Freevee has made a home for Judy Justice, and we’re elated to have the opportunity to continue to develop Judge Sheindlin’s signature courtroom format.”

Freevee recently announced a 70% year-over-year increase to its Originals slate, including the upcoming spinoff of Amazon’s longest-running Original series, Bosch: Legacy, premiering May 6 (all seven seasons of the Prime Video original, Bosch, are also now available to stream on Freevee); the Australian crime drama Troppo, premiering May 20; and a new home-design series, Hollywood Houselift with Jeff Lewis, premiering June 10. Spanning drama and comedy, scripted and unscripted, additional Freevee Originals currently available include the recently released buddy-cop Drama Pretty Hard Cases; the court program Judy Justice; zany true-crime docuseries Bug Out; sports docuseries UNINTERRUPTED’s Top Class: The Life and Times of the Sierra Canyon Trailblazers; spy thriller Alex Rider; music docuseries Luke Bryan: My Dirt Road Diary; and the heist drama Leverage: Redemption. “Bosch: Legacy,” the First Original Series to Debut Under Amazon Freevee, Releases Extended Trailer for Highly Anticipated Spinoff Series, Premiering May 6

Amazon’s free streaming service will also add all seven seasons of Bosch to its content library on April 22

CULVER CITY, California – April 13, 2022 – Today, the highly anticipated spinoff series Bosch: Legacy released an extended trailer for its upcoming first season. Bosch: Legacy is the the first Original series to debut under Amazon Freevee, the new name for IMDb TV beginning April 27.

In the new trailer, fans get a closer look at how Harry Bosch (Titus Welliver) and Money Chandler’s (Mimi Rogers) relationship has evolved as they both begin new chapters following the Carl Rogers case that shifted the dynamic of all their lives. The first four episodes of the series will be available beginning May 6, with two new episodes available each Friday through May 27.

Additionally, starting April 22, all seven seasons of the Prime Video Original Bosch will be available to watch on Amazon’s free streaming service. A Bosch FAST channel will also launch on April 22, allowing fans to continuously enjoy the program in an experience similar to broadcast television. The Bosch channel will join more than 60 other FAST channels on the service including thematically programmed ones such as popular movies and TV shows, comedy hits, and animated favorites, and recently added channels for Judy Justice, Forensic Files, and Unsolved Mysteries.

“With meaningful storytelling and distinctive characters, Bosch: Legacy is the ideal first Original to debut under our new brand,” said Lauren Anderson and Ryan Pirozzi, co-heads of content and programming for Freevee. “We look forward to sharing this new chapter with fans, and are thrilled to provide both loyal and new viewers the ability to watch all seven seasons of Bosch, available for free for the first time, both on demand and as a FAST channel on Amazon Freevee.”

Loosely based on the novel The Wrong Side of Goodbye from acclaimed author Michael Connelly, and a spinoff of the longest-running Prime Video Original Bosch, the first season of Bosch: Legacy follows former LAPD detective Harry Bosch as he begins a new chapter as a private investigator. His first job calls him to the estate of ailing billionaire Whitney Vance, where Bosch is tasked with finding Vance’s only potential heir. Along the way, Bosch finds himself clashing with powerful figures who have a vested interest in the heir not being found. Researching the family tree, Bosch uncovers shocking revelations that span generations, all while billions of dollars remain on the line. Without the badge and a preference for old-school tactics, Bosch finds an invaluable resource in Maurice “Mo” Bassi (Stephen A. Chang, Captain Marvel), a tech-forward gadget whiz who shares Bosch’s commitment to justice and fondness for smooth jazz.

Honey “Money” Chandler, reeling from the mistrial of Carl Rogers, is determined to bring Rogers to justice. In an unlikely alliance, Chandler and Bosch team up to conquer Rogers. But he has a long list of enemies, including the Russian Bratva, who are growing impatient on a promise Rogers made them.

Following in her father’s footsteps, Maddie Bosch (Madison Lintz), a rookie patrol officer with the LAPD, is paired with Reina Vasquez (Denise Sanchez, The Good Place), a no-nonsense, hard-charging training officer. As Maddie patrols the streets of Los Angeles, she grapples with what kind of cop she wants to be. Her father – who continues to live by the code that everybody counts, or nobody counts – believes the issue is clear: Being a cop is either a mission or just a job.

Bosch: Legacy from Fabel Entertainment is executive produced by Michael Connelly, Eric Overmyer, Tom Bernardo, Henrik Bastin, Pieter Jan Brugge, Titus Welliver, and Zetna Fuentes. Fuentes (Bosch, Jane the Virgin, Shameless) directed the spinoff pilot.

IMDb TV Announces Rebrand to Amazon Freevee

Freevee to add Original movies to growing content slate with a greenlight for the romantic comedy Love Accidentally, starring Brenda Song and Aaron O’Connell

Currently available in the U.S. and UK, Freevee to launch in Germany later this year

CULVER CITY, California – April 13, 2022 – Today, Amazon’s free streaming service announced a rebrand to Amazon Freevee, the new name for IMDb TV, beginning April 27. Over the last two years, the ad-supported video on demand (AVOD) service experienced rapid growth – tripling monthly active users – driven by rapid distribution across living room devices and mobile, an increasing slate of Originals, an always updating library of highly sought movies and TV shows, and over 60 FAST channels. Following a successful launch in the UK last September, Freevee will continue its international expansion with a launch in Germany later this year.

Freevee will grow its Originals slate by 70% in 2022, including the spinoff of the longest-running Original series for Prime Video, Bosch: Legacy, premiering May 6; a new home-design series, Hollywood Houselift with Jeff Lewis; Greg Garcia’s comedy series Sprung; the Australian crime drama Troppo; and High School, a scripted series adapted for television by Clea DuVall, produced by Plan B, and based on the New York Times best-selling memoir by Grammy-nominated, platinum recording artists Tegan and Sara Quin. Amazon’s free streaming service will announce additional greenlights at its NewFronts presentation on May 2.

“Over the past two years, we have seen tremendous growth for our AVOD service and are committed to bringing our audiences premium, free-to-consumer content,” said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios. “We’re looking forward to building on this momentum with an increasing slate of inventive and broadly appealing Originals, and are excited to establish Freevee as the premier AVOD service with content audiences crave.”

“Customers are increasingly shifting to streaming ad-supported premium content, and we have developed Freevee to deliver them highly sought content with half the commercials of traditional TV,” said Ashraf Alkarmi, director of Freevee. “Our new name clearly communicates who we are: An easy-to-navigate streaming service, available to users for free, whenever and wherever they choose to watch some of the greatest Original and licensed content available.”

Additionally, the free streaming service will add exclusive Original movies to its already robust slate, starting with a greenlight order for the workplace rom-com Love Accidentally, starring Brenda Song and Aaron O’Connell. In Love Accidentally, Alexa (Song) and Jason (O’Connell) are competing for a promotion at their advertising firm when each of their significant others breaks up with them. Thinking she has texted a friend, Alexa mistakenly sends Jason a brokenhearted message. The two spark up an anonymous relationship via text with neither aware of who the other really is. When the truth comes out, will they be able to put their rivalry aside and let true love prevail? Love Accidentally also features Denise Richards and Maxwell Caulfield, while Barry Barnholtz, Zelma Kiwi, and Jeffrey Schenck serve as executive producers.

Spanning drama and comedy, scripted and unscripted, Originals currently available on the service include buddy-cop drama Pretty Hard Cases, with a second season dropping April 22; the heist drama Leverage: Redemption; sports docuseries UNINTERRUPTED’s Top Class: The Life and Times of the Sierra Canyon Trailblazers; the spy thriller Alex Rider; the music docuseries Luke Bryan: My Dirt Road Diary; and the zany true-crime docuseries Bug Out. In addition, the service features Judy Justice, a court program helmed by television icon Judge Judy Sheindlin with a 120-episode Season One order. Judy Justice will continue to deliver customers new episodes every weekday through April 15 and has been picked up for a second season.

Previously, Amazon’s free streaming service announced greenlight orders for Primo, the coming-of-age comedy from Michael Schur and Shea Serrano, and On Call, the half-hour procedural drama from prolific TV producer Dick Wolf. Additionally, the service announced an AVOD first by licensing a deal with NBCU securing an exclusive network-window for films from Universal Filmed Entertainment Group’s 2020-21 theatrical slate, including titles such as Dolittle, The Invisible Man, Promising Young Woman, F9 (Fast & Furious 9), as well as rights to a package of animated movies, including Sing 2.

IMDb TV Announces Casting and Start-of-Production Date for Coming-of-Age Series “High School” Based on the New York Times Best-Selling Memoir by Tegan and Sara Quin

TikTok creators Railey and Seazynn Gilliland to play Tegan and Sara

Special guest stars Cobie Smulders and Kyle Bornheimer cast as twins’ parents

Series to begin production in Calgary starting March 21
CULVER CITY, California – March 17, 2022 – IMDb TV today announced the cast and March 21 start-of-production date for its coming-of-age series High School, a new Original show co-created by platinum recording artists Tegan and Sara Quin and executive producer Clea DuVall. TikTok creators and TV newcomers Railey and Seazynn Gilliland have been cast as series leads, portraying the high school versions of Tegan and Sara. Special guest stars Cobie Smulders and Kyle Bornheimer will also join the cast, playing the twins’ parents. The series will start filming on March 21 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Railey Gilliland will portray Tegan, a gregarious, confident, and extroverted teenager, who turns to music to explore her vulnerabilities. Seazynn Gilliland will portray Sara, a reserved, observant, and sensitive 15-year-old who, for the first time, starts to access her own self-confidence through playing music. Cobie Smulders will portray Simone, Tegan and Sara’s funny, sharp, and supportive mother, who strives to define herself outside of her family, and Kyle Bornheimer will portray Patrick, Simone’s boyfriend and Tegan and Sara’s pseudo-stepdad, who is a gentle everyman.

“It felt kismet when I saw Railey and Seazynn for the first time on TikTok,” said Tegan Quin. “There was something undeniably intriguing about them: They were sweet and original, impossible not to watch. I felt compelled to send Sara the video. ‘Too bad they don’t act,’ I texted her. Sara wasn’t deterred. They were performers, musical and dynamic. ‘You can’t teach charisma,’ Sara said, which they had in spades. Sara was relentless – these were the twins that had to play us. We were overjoyed when they were cast, and we couldn’t be more thrilled that it all worked out.”

Produced by Amazon Studios and Emmy and Academy Award-winning Plan B Entertainment, High School is a story about finding your own identity – a journey made even more complicated when you have a twin whose own struggle and self-discovery so closely mimics your own. Told through a backdrop of ’90s grunge and rave culture, the series weaves between parallel and discordant memories of twin sisters growing up down the hall from one another.

Tegan and Sara Quin, Clea DuVall, and Laura Kittrell will serve as executive producers alongside Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner from Plan B Entertainment. Plan B’s Carina Sposato is a co-executive producer. DuVall will also write and direct multiple episodes, including the pilot. Amazon Studios in association with Plan B Entertainment will produce the series.

IMDb TV uniquely offers premium Originals on a free streaming service, including the upcoming May 6 release of Bosch: Legacy, the spinoff of the Prime Video series Bosch; the April 22 premiere of the second season of the buddy-cop drama Pretty Hard Cases; and the newly released zany true-crime docuseries Bug Out.
