The Salisbury Poisonings

All four episodes drop on AMC+ on Thursday, October 1; debuts on AMC early next year

The Salisbury Poisonings tells the remarkable story of how ordinary people and public services reacted to a crisis on their doorstep, displaying extraordinary heroism as their city became the focus of an unprecedented national emergency. In March 2018, the eyes of the world turned to the British city of Salisbury when it became the epicenter of what has been described as one of the biggest political events of the 21st century – but until now, the heroic acts behind the headlines have not been told. Within three days of the assassination attempt on double agent and spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia, key agencies discovered that a lethal nerve agent called Novichok was used, just half a teaspoon of which could kill 20,000 people. Within four days, hundreds of traces were found across the city, and, just when things were finally thought to be under control, a perfume bottle containing the nerve agent was discovered, throwing the investigation into renewed chaos.

The Salisbury Poisonings is executive produced by Laurence Bowen and Chris Carey for Dancing Ledge Productions, Lucy Richer for the BBC, and by the writers of the drama, Adam Patterson and Declan Lawn and series director Saul Dibb. Series producer is Karen Lewis.

Gangs of London Season 1

First three episodes drop on AMC+ on Thursday, October 1 (episodes will then roll out weekly); debuts on AMC early next year

Gangs of London’s critically acclaimed first season was a huge success in the UK as it took audiences on an immersive journey into the hidden heart of the capital. The 10-episode first season of the action-packed thriller debuts on AMC+ this fall for US audiences and has been renewed for a second season with the network on board to co-produce.

Set in the heart of one of the world’s most dynamic and multicultural cities, Gangs of London tells the story of a city being torn apart by the turbulent power struggles of the international gangs that control it and the sudden power vacuum that’s created when the head of London’s most powerful crime family is assassinated. The series stars a multi-talented ensemble cast including Joe Cole (Peaky Blinders, Pure, Black Mirror), Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù (Humans), Colm Meaney (Star Trek, Hell on Wheels, Layer Cake), Lucian Msamati (His Dark Materials, Black Earth Rising, Kiri), Michelle Fairley (Game of Thrones, Suits) Paapa Essiedu (Press, Kiri) and Pippa Bennett-Warner (MatherFatherSon, Harlots, Sick Note).

For 20 years, Finn Wallace (Meaney) was the most powerful criminal in London. Billions of pounds flowed through his organization each year. But now he’s dead – and nobody knows who ordered the hit. With rivals everywhere, it’s up to the impulsive Sean Wallace (Cole), with the help of the Dumani family headed by Ed Dumani (Msamati), to take his father’s place. If the situation wasn’t already dangerous enough, Sean’s assumption of power causes ripples in the world of international crime. Perhaps the one man who might be able to help him and be his ally is Elliot Finch (Dìrísù), who up until now, has been one of life’s losers, a lowlife chancer with a mysterious interest in the Wallace family. But as the wind of fate blows, Elliot finds himself transported to the inner workings of the largest criminal organization in London. It doesn’t end with the Wallaces though, there are shadowy higher powers at play.

Gangs of London is created by award-winning filmmaker Gareth Evans and his creative partner Matt Flannery and is produced by Pulse Films in association with SISTER, with AMC serving as co-producer. The series was executive produced by Pulse Films’ founder Thomas Benski, and Lucas Ochoa alongside Jane Featherstone, from SISTER.

The special will premiere on the same day in the U.S., UK and China.

Planet Earth: A Celebration highlights eight of the most extraordinary sequences from BBC AMERICA’s impactful and Emmy®-winning Planet Earth II and Blue Planet II and features new narration from Sir David Attenborough. To accompany these sequences, award-winning composer Hans Zimmer, Jacob Shea and the team at Bleeding Fingers have created new compositions, and have rearranged the original scores for this exciting, joyful and adrenaline-packed journey around the world to some of the most extreme environments, where despite the odds animals manage to survive. The string section of the score is performed by the BBC Concert Orchestra, accompanied by Brit and Mercury Award-winning UK rapper, Dave, who performs on the grand piano. Both the orchestra and Dave were filmed for the program in the Lyndhurst Hall at Air Studios, London.

During the broadcast and online, AMC Networks will share with viewers how they can support the efforts of The National Wildlife Federation, America’s largest wildlife conservation organization, that works to ensure wildlife thrive in a rapidly changing world and MusiCares, a non-profit that provides a safety net of critical assistance for the music community in times of need.

Courtney Thomasma, Executive Director, BBC AMERICA said: “Pairing stunning footage of the planet with a magnificent soundtrack will transport, inspire, soothe and revitalize us – feelings we all crave right now. Planet Earth: A Celebration is a passport to some of the most glorious places on earth set against a majestic new score. We’re so happy to partner with the BBC to present this to U.S. viewers across BBC America, AMC, IFC, and SundanceTV.”

Hans Zimmer said, “Working with David on so many of his magnificent programs celebrating nature and our planet has been a joy for me. I am constantly inspired by what he is able to capture, and the collection of sequences featured in Planet Earth: A Celebration is truly special. It was an honor to once again work with David, Jacob Shea and the BBC Concert Orchestra to highlight these incredible stories once again.”

Tony Hall, BBC Director General, said: “The BBC has curated this amazing collection of sequences from two of the most talked about natural history series of recent years, Planet Earth II and Blue Planet II, as a spectacular treat for the viewers. With brand new narration from the brilliant David Attenborough, a new score from Hans Zimmer and the team at Bleeding Fingers played by the BBC Concert Orchestra with Dave on the piano, this thrilling journey around the world promises to lift everyone’s spirits.”

Dave said: ““I’ve always been a fan of powerful natural history documentaries. This is a programme where nature and music come together, so it was only right that I lent my talent, my time, and my attention to this project. It was a pleasure to work alongside Sir David Attenborough and Hans Zimmer.”

Andrew Connolly, Director BBC Concert Orchestra said: “From the original 2001 Blue Planet onwards, the BBC Concert Orchestra has been proud to play its part in the original soundtracks, concerts and special projects associated with these landmark programmes. To bring the Concert Orchestra out of lockdown in order to create new music with Dave and Hans Zimmer for Planet Earth: A Celebration was very special and that feeling of coming together is at the heart of our performance.”

The sequences that will be featured from Planet Earth II are: lions vs giraffe, which sees a pride of desert lions in Namibia that are so hungry they risk a nail-biting hunt of a giraffe several times their size; Andean flamingo of Salar de Atacama, Chile, who perform a stunning dance in the safe refuge of a chain of salt lakes; the mother snow leopard protecting her cub from two males in the Himalayas, which was the first time four snow leopards had ever been filmed together; and the online viral video sensation racer snakes vs iguana, which sees our plucky hero, the hatchling marine iguana, sprint across the beach followed by a hunting mob of racer snakes in Fernandina, Galapagos.

From Blue Planet II, viewers will witness again the charming surfing bottlenose dolphins on the East Cape of South Africa, catching the waves, playing and surfing near the shoreline; common octopus vs pyjama shark in the kelp forests off the coast of southern Africa where an octopus fights off an attack by suffocating the shark by pushing its arms into its gills, before concealing itself in an armor of shells, behavior that had never been seen before; bird-eating fish, where in the Indian Ocean, giant trevallies propel themselves out of the water to catch sea birds in mid-air; and massive gatherings of orca and humpback whales feeding together on herring in the fjords of northern Norway, where the orca deploy their special weapon – their tails – banging them with such force on the surface that the shock waves stun the herring senseless.

Planet Earth: A Celebration was commissioned by Charlotte Moore, Director, Content, and Jack Bootle, Head of Commissioning, Natural History and Science. It is made by BBC Studios’ Natural History Unit, co-produced by BBC AMERICA and Tencent Music Entertainment Group (QQ Music, Kugou Music, Kuwo Music and WeSing). IFC FILMS PICKS UP ‘OTTOLENGHI AND THE CAKES OF VERSAILLES’

IFC FILMS PICKS UP ‘OTTOLENGHI AND THE CAKES OF VERSAILLES,’ A RICH, COLORFUL EXPLORATION OF HISTORY AND CULTURE THROUGH PASTRY
DIRECTOR LAURA GABBERT’S DOCUMENTARY FOCUSES ON THE INTERSECTION OF CRAFT AND EXCESS AT THE METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART’S 2018 FOOD GALA
NEW YORK, NY (June 25, 2020) – IFC Films announced today that it is acquiring U.S. rights to OTTOLENGHI AND THE CAKES OF VERSAILLES, the newest thoughtful and perceptive documentary from industry master Laura Gabbert (IFC Films’ City of Gold, No Impact Man, Sunset Story), produced by Original Productions in association with 50 Degrees Entertainment. IFC Films is planning a release in September 2020.

Director Laura Gabbert handles the subject with the same exacting care that she brought to her previous documentaries No Impact Man, Sunset Story, and the Jonathan Gold portrait City of Gold, which in 2018 Vogue named as one of the 66 best documentaries of all time. OTTOLENGHI AND THE CAKES OF VERSAILLES was produced by Emmy Award winner Steve Robillard (Netflix’s The Confession Tapes, Discovery’s Deadliest Catch) and Mohamed AlRafi (Dumplin’), and executive produced by Paula Manzanedo-Schmit and Original Productions’ Jeff Hasler (JANE, Man On Wire), Ernie Avila, and Brian Lovett.

In the summer of 2018, New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art enlists Yotam Ottolenghi, the London-based Isreali chef and celebrated author of cookbooks Jerusalem and Plenty, to organize a food gala inspired by the Met exhibit “Visitors to Versailles.” In preparation for the event, Ottolenghi travels to the Palace of Versailles. At the landmark French site, the famed chef is possessed by a child-like curiosity, as he finds in Versailles a glimpse into the French Monarchy’s decadence.

And so Ottolenghi, with the help of pastry chefs (including “Cronut” maestro Dominique Ansel), positions The Met event as both an expression and critique of excess. Several centuries ago in Versailles, the royal family lived in public to help broadcast the country’s splendor and wealth.. Ottolenghi fast-forwards to the advent of social media and finds a new aristocracy streaming their riches, food, and prosperity. In both eras, we see deep exclusion, longing for community, a patriarchal structure – and the same potential for revolution. OTTOLENGHI AND THE CAKES OF VERSAILLES is an exploration of history to food, craft and gluttony.

Arianna Bocco, EVP of Acquisitions and Productions of IFC Films said, “Laura Gabbert has turned her attention to a decadent food gala at The Met, and as we’ve seen with City of Gold, the result is an emotional experience that makes us learn and think through the lens of culinary art. It was a joy to work with Laura to bring Jonathan Gold to audiences, and we can’t wait to begin another journey with her and the brilliant Yotam Ottolenghi.”

Laura Gabbert, Director added, “There’s really no better company than IFC to release this film during such a unique time. Arianna and her team did thoughtful and innovative work with the release of City of Gold. My partners (Original Productions, 50 Degrees Entertainment) and I couldn’t be more thrilled.”

Mohamed AlRafi, 50 Degrees Entertainment added, “We at 50 Degrees Entertainment are thrilled to have IFC on board for Cakes of Versailles distribution in the U.S. We look forward to the great success this partnership will generate to this latest project we so much enjoyed being part of.’

Jeff Hasler, President of Original Productions added, “This project provided us the perfect opportunity to take OP on a new journey in storytelling and marks our first foray into developing and producing feature length documentaries. Working with talented artists like Laura and Yotam to chronicle this amazing confluence of food and art was a dream come true and represents what our documentary strategy is all about – ambitious ideas, told by great artists. I’m delighted to see our partnership with 50 Degrees Entertainment crowned with such a success.”

The deal for the film was negotiated by IFC Films’ EVP of Acquisitions and Productions Arianna Bocco with Josh Braun of Submarine Entertainment on behalf of the filmmakers.

Six All-New Episodes to Premiere in 2021
NEW YORK – June 17, 2020 – AMC and IFC announced today the renewal of the Critics’ Choice Awards-nominated variety series Sherman’s Showcase for a second season ahead of the show’s one-hour “Black History Month Spectacular” premiering this Friday, June 19th at 10PM ET/PT on AMC and 11PM ET/PT on IFC. Six all-new, 30-minute episodes are slated to air in 2021.

Created by and starring Bashir Salahuddin (Top Gun: Maverick, South Side) and Diallo Riddle (Marlon, South Side), and executive produced by Get Lifted Film Co. (Atlanta’s Missing and Murdered, Rhythm + Flow), and RadicalMedia (What Happened, Miss Simone?, GRANT), the witty, irreverent and wholly original Sherman’s Showcase features sketches, cultural nostalgia, A-list guest stars, and original award-winning songs that, all together, earned the series a 100% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and inclusion on ‘Best of 2019’ lists.

“Sherman McDaniels has been a staple in American culture for almost 50 years and shows no signs of slowing down…or aging at all,” said creators and stars Salahuddin and Riddle. “We’re thrilled to return to the uniquely nerdy, quirky, silkily soulful and musical world of Sherman’s Showcase. It’s all our favorite things and now it’s on AMC and IFC. Season 2’s so big, it needs two networks.”

Said Sarah Barnett, President of AMC Networks Entertainment Group and AMC Studios, “It’s rare today for a show to develop a highly passionate fanbase, get raves from critics and infiltrate popular culture. Sherman’s Showcase has done all three and we’re thrilled to put it in front of AMC audiences alongside IFC’s devoted fans. Bashir and Diallo are fantastically talented, we are all waiting with baited breath to collectively witness the continued evolution of Sherman McDaniels, American icon.”

Sherman’s Showcase will roll out its “Black History Month Spectacular” this Friday, by honoring historic African-American icons both past and present, alongside superheroes, period dramas, vampires, and a very special re-imagining of the cult film The Last Dragon. The New York Times says: “It’s one of the rare comedies capable of surprising its viewers.”

Guest stars in the “Black History Month Spectacular” include (in alphabetical order) rapper Phonte Coleman, Michael Ealy (Stumptown, Westworld), journalist Jemele Hill, Lil Rel Howery (Get Out, Rel), actor and TV host Terrence J, series executive producer and Emmy®-, GRAMMY®-, Oscar®– and Tony®-winner John Legend, rapper and activist Vic Mensa, Vanderpump Rules’ Tom Sandoval and Tom Schwartz, GRAMMY® winner Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, GRAMMY® winner Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter, Tyrin Turner (Menace II Society), Mario Van Peebles (Heartbreak Ridge), Bresha Webb (Marlon, The Last O.G.) and more.

Sherman’s Showcase has been called “the best variety series of the summer” says Complex, “side-splitting” says Salon, “a glittering heap of invention” says Vulture and “a trippy, chill satire of a ‘Soul Train’-ish variety show that doubles as a love letter to black pop culture, a science-fiction experiment, and a good party,” says The New Yorker. Season one is currently available to watch on Hulu, iTunes, Google Play, Amazon and XBOX.

Full-length versions of the songs from the series are available via digital release and vinyl from Mad Decent, the Los Angeles-based record label founded by Thomas Wesley Pentz, better known as Diplo. The “Black History Month Spectacular” album was released this week and is available here.

Creators and stars Diallo Riddle and Bashir Salahuddin serve as executive producers on the series, along with John Legend, Mike Jackson and Ty Stiklorious through their Get Lifted Film Co. IFC FILMS’ SUNDANCE HIT ‘RELIC’ PULLS INTO DRIVE-INS FOR ADVANCE RUN

IFC FILMS’ SUNDANCE HIT ‘RELIC’ PULLS INTO DRIVE-INS FOR ADVANCE RUN BEGINNING JULY 4TH WEEKEND TO PROVIDE THRILLS AND CHILLS TO AUDIENCES DURING SUMMER DATE SHIFTS
NEW YORK, NY (June 17, 2020) – Ahead of its July 10th theatrical and Digital/VOD date, IFC Films is bringing RELIC to drive-in theaters only as an advance week-run beginning July 3rd as studios delay new releases to later in the summer. With a current score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, RELIC is one of the year’s most highly anticipated genre films of the Summer.

Recently heralded as one of Indiewire’s ‘20 Rising Women Directors You Need to Know in 2020’, Japanese-Australian director Natalie Erika James’ feature debut is a fresh and terrifying twist on the notorious haunted house tale. When elderly mother Edna (Robyn Nevin) inexplicably vanishes, her daughter Kay (Emily Mortimer) and granddaughter Sam (Bella Heathcote) rush to their family’s decaying country home, finding clues of her increasing dementia scattered around the house in her absence. As Edna’s behavior turns increasingly volatile, both begin to sense that an insidious presence in the house might be taking control of her. All three generations of women are brought together through trauma and a powerful sense of strength and loyalty to face the ultimate fear together.

Lisa Schwartz, Co-President of IFC Films said, “We’re very pleased to have the opportunity to support our drive-in partners during the July 4th holiday weekend. We have been immensely grateful for their support of IFC Films over the last few months during complicated and unprecedented circumstances. We’re happy we are able to return the favor.”

Arianna Bocco EVP of Acquisitions and Productions of IFC Films added, “RELIC is the kind of horror film that drive-ins traditionally thrive on, and we’re delighted to give even greater visibility to a vibrant and important new voice in the genre.”

RELIC is produced by Anna McLeish, Sarah Shaw of Carver Films, with Jake Gyllenhaal and Riva Marker of Nine Stories and Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Todd Makurath and Mike Larocca of AGBO executive producing. RELIC had its world premiere in the Midnight section at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival to rave reviews and was programmed in the Midnighters section at SXSW.

Following an unprecedented indie run at drive-in theaters throughout May and April with THE WRETCHED, RELIC continues to lead IFC FIlms’ slate through a shifting and innovative summer strategy including additional directorial debuts from Shannon Murphy’s BABYTEETH and Dave Franco’s THE RENTAL.

IFC FILMS NABS ESPIONAGE THRILLER ‘A CALL TO SPY’

IFC FILMS NABS ESPIONAGE THRILLER ‘A CALL TO SPY,’ THE TRUE STORY OF THREE FEMALE SECRET AGENTS IN THE SECOND WORLD WAR
NEW YORK, NY (June 16, 2020) — IFC Films announced today that it is acquiring North American rights to A CALL TO SPY, the solo directorial debut of Academy Award and Emmy Award nominated producer Lydia Dean Pilcher (Cutie and the Boxer, The Darjeeling Limited), from an original screenplay by Sarah Megan Thomas (producer, co-writer and star of the 2016 bank thriller Equity), who produced and also stars in the film. IFC Films plans to release the film in Fall 2020.

Thomas portrays real-life American spy Virginia Hall, alongside Stana Katic (Castle, Quantum of Solace, The Double) as British intelligence officer Vera Atkins, and Indian star Radhika Apte (Sacred Games, Padman, The Wedding Guest) making her American film debut as British spy Noor Inayat Khan. In addition to Thomas, Katic, and Apte, the cast includes Linus Roache (Homeland, Vikings, Batman Begins) as Colonel Maurice Buckmaster, Rossif Sutherland (Reign), Marc Rissmann (The Man in the High Castle, Game of Thrones) as Klaus Barbie, along with Samuel Roukin (Turn: Washington’s Spies), and Laila Robins (Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, The Blacklist). A CALL TO SPY made its world premiere at the 2019 Edinburgh International Film Festival and won awards at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival and the Whistler Film Festival.

The film celebrates three unsung female heroes of WWII. As Great Britain’s forces were stretched thin during World War II, Winston Churchill’s Special Operations Executive (SOE) began to enlist women as spies. Their daunting mission: conduct sabotage and build a resistance. Spymistress Vera Atkins, later the inspiration for Ian Fleming’s Miss Moneypenny in the James Bond franchise, was the chief recruiter for this secret army.

Atkins selected two unusual candidates: Virginia Hall, an American journalist from Baltimore hampered by a wooden leg, and Noor Inayat Khan, a wireless officer of Indian descent and an avowed pacifist. Together, they worked to undermine the Nazi regime in France. The courage, sacrifices and grit of these three women helped quell the Nazi occupation – and ultimately turned the tide of the war.

The camaraderie depicted on screen is also reflected in the credits for A CALL TO SPY, where many women held key positions behind the camera from director, writer, producer, to costume designer, production designer and composer.

Arianna Bocco, EVP of Acquisitions and Productions of IFC Films, said, “It’s rare to find a war movie with one complex female character – let alone three, as in A CALL TO SPY. Lydia Dean Pilcher and Sarah Megan Thomas have beautifully crafted the true story of real women who confronted hatred in World War II, and we’re thrilled to bring their film the attention it deserves.”

Director Lydia Dean Pilcher added, “These three women, driven by the stakes of humanity, had a choice to collaborate, do nothing, or resist. Their stories are more relevant today than ever. Happy to be working with IFC Films, a longtime champion of independent vision.”

Producer Sarah Megan Thomas added, “I am thrilled to be teaming up with IFC on this story about real female heroes. We look forward to sharing with the world a film that humanizes brave people from different countries who came together in a time of crisis — understanding we are all in this together.”

The deal for the film was negotiated by IFC Films’ Director of Acquisitions Aijah Keith with Sarah Megan Thomas of SMT Pictures, LLC. on behalf of the filmmakers.

SHERMAN’S SHOWCASE “BLACK HISTORY MONTH SPECTACULAR” PREMIERES FRIDAY, JUNE 19

SHERMAN’S SHOWCASE “BLACK HISTORY MONTH SPECTACULAR” PREMIERES FRIDAY, JUNE 19 ON AMC AND IFC

Sherman McDaniel Says ‘Add Some Kente’ to Juneteenth

Featuring Guest Stars John Legend, Michael Ealy, Questlove, Terrence J, Jemele Hill, Tom Sandoval,
Tom Schwartz, Mario Van Peebles, Bresha Webb and more

IFC’S Sherman’s Showcase one-hour “Black History Month Spectacular,” premieres Juneteeth – Friday, June 19 at 10PM ET/PT on AMC and 11PM ET/PT on IFC. The witty, irreverent and wholly original Sherman’s Showcase “Black History Month Spectacular” honors historic African-American icons both past and present, alongside superheroes, period dramas, vampires, and a very special re-imagining of the cult film The Last Dragon.

Executive producer John Legend participated in a panel at ATX Television Festival this past Saturday alongside creators, stars and executive producers Diallo Riddle and Bashir Salahuddin, and executive producer Mike Jackson. On the importance of the Spectacular and celebrating black culture during the current climate John shared, “There’s a lot of joy that we can share with other people. And I think it’s important for us to continue to share that joy, that laughter, with intelligence and with an eye to what’s going on in the world. But people still need to laugh and enjoy themselves. I think it’s important that we show the fullness of what it is to be Black and human. Through our art, we’re able to do that.”

Co-creator, star and executive producer Diallo Riddle continued, saying, “I think that it’s a really weird place right now, where you do wonder, ‘Is it okay to be silly? Is it okay to laugh?’ I think people need those moments of levity. Those moments to laugh, to dance, to do the things that we love so that you can actually recharge that battery. You do have to be sensitive to that. But then again, I just always come back to the fact that what has gotten our people through the past and the present has always been our culture. That’s the music, that’s the comedy, and the black boy joy, to use the nomenclature of the current day. We have to keep that going.”

Special guest stars in the spectacular include (in alphabetical order) rapper Phonte Coleman, Michael Ealy, journalist Jemele Hill, Lil Rel Howery, actor and TV host Terrence J, series executive producer and Emmy®-, GRAMMY®-, Oscar®- and Tony®-winner John Legend, rapper and activist Vic Mensa, GRAMMY® winner Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, Bresha Webb, Vanderpump Rules’ Tom Sandoval and Tom Schwartz, GRAMMY® winner Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter, Tyrin Turner, Mario Van Peebles and more.

Creators and stars Diallo Riddle and Bashir Salahuddin serve as executive producers on the series, along with John Legend, Mike Jackson and Ty Stiklorious through their Get Lifted Film Co. (La La Land, Underground, Jesus Christ Superstar). Pete Aronson serves as executive producer, and Frank Scherma and Jim Bouvet of RadicalMedia (Stan Against Evil, Conversations With a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes) also executive produce.
