IFC FILMS LANDS U.S. RIGHTS TO BERLINALE OPENING NIGHT FILM ‘MY SALINGER YEAR’

IFC FILMS LANDS U.S. RIGHTS TO BERLINALE OPENING NIGHT FILM ‘MY SALINGER YEAR’
STARRING BREAKOUT MARGARET QUALLEY AND SIGOURNEY WEAVER BASED ON JOANNA RAKOFF’S ACCLAIMED MEMOIR
NEW YORK, NY (MAY 19, 2020) – IFC Films announced today that it is acquiring US rights to MY SALINGER YEAR, directed by Philippe Falardeau (CHUCK, MONSIEUR LAZHAR), and adapted by Falardeau from Joanna Rakoff’s celebrated memoir of the same name. The film stars breakout actress Margaret Qualley (ONCE UPON A TIME IN HOLLYWOOD, FOSSE/VERDON) and Sigourney Weaver (ALIEN, AVATAR), and is produced by Luc Déry and Kim McCraw of mirco_scope, and co-produced by Ruth Coady and Susan Mullen of Parallel Films in association with Memento Films International and La Cinéfacture. MY SALINGER YEAR premiered as the Opening Night film at Berlinale 2020, and IFC Films will be releasing the film later this year.

New York in the 90s: After leaving graduate school to pursue her dream of becoming a writer, Joanna (Margaret Qualley) gets hired as an assistant to Margaret (Sigourney Weaver), the stoic and old-fashioned literary agent of J. D. Salinger. Fluctuating between poverty and glamour, she spends her days in a plush, wood-panelled office – where dictaphones and typewriters still reign and agents doze off after three-martini lunches – and her nights in a sink-less Brooklyn apartment with her socialist boyfriend.

Joanna’s main task is processing Salinger’s voluminous fan mail, but as she reads the heart-wrenching letters from around the world, she becomes reluctant to send the agency’s impersonal standard letter and impulsively begins personalizing the responses. The results are both humorous and moving, as Joanna, while using the great writer’s voice, begins to discover her own.

Arianna Bocco EVP of Acquisitions and Productions at IFC Films said, “We look forward to collaborating with Phillippe once again, this time on the adaptation of a highly acclaimed memoir and an authentic New York story brought to life by excellent performances from breakout Margaret Qualley and Sigourney Weaver.”

Director Philippe Falardeau added, “We’re delighted by IFC’s acquisition of My Salinger Year. The US distribution was an important objective when we acquired Joanna Rakoff’s memoirs back in 2015. This coming-of-age story is rooted in the literary world of New York and we’re convinced it can appeal to a variety of audiences especially considering Margaret Qualley and Sigourney Weaver’s beautiful performances. IFC’s worldly collection of films is both exciting and varied and we’re happy to be part of it.”

The deal for the film was negotiated by IFC Films’ EVP of Acquisitions and Productions Arianna Bocco with UTA Independent Film Group and Memento Films International on behalf of the filmmakers.

SHERMAN’S SHOWCASE “BLACK HISTORY MONTH SPECTACULAR” SET TO PREMIERE FRIDAY, JUNE 19

SHERMAN’S SHOWCASE “BLACK HISTORY MONTH SPECTACULAR” SET TO PREMIERE FRIDAY, JUNE 19 ON AMC AND IFC
The Musical Variety Sketch Sensation Hosted by the Legendary Sherman McDaniels Returns with a Double Take at 10PM on AMC and 11PM on IFC
Trailer Released Featuring Guest Stars John Legend, Mario Van Peebles, Bresha Webb, Michael Ealy, Questlove and more

NEW YORK, NY – May 14, 2020 – AMC and IFC announced today that the Critics’ Choice Award-nominated Sherman’s Showcase will officially return on June 19 – Juneteenth – with a one-hour “Black History Month Spectacular” on both networks, premiering at 10PM ET/PT on AMC, followed by an 11PM ET/PT premiere on IFC.

Created by and starring Bashir Salahuddin (Top Gun: Maverick, South Side) and Diallo Riddle (Marlon, South Side), and executive produced by Get Lifted Film Co. and RadicalMedia, the witty, irreverent and wholly original Sherman’s Showcase “Black History Month Spectacular” will feature more of the sketches, A-list guest stars, and original award-winning songs that, all together, earned the series a 100% Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and inclusion on numerous ‘Best of 2019’ lists.

“Sherman’s Showcase host Sherman McDaniels has dreamed of doing a Black History Month episode for decades,” said creators and stars Salahuddin and Riddle. “Thanks to IFC and AMC, he’s finally got the chance. Granted, Black History Month was in February. But Sherman said ‘No, trust me, let’s hold off until the world undergoes some fundamental change that forces everyone to stay at home and watch the Showcase.’ And Sherman got his wish. He’d also like to ask Tiger King’s Carole Baskin to stop using his signature phrase ‘cats and kittens,’ which he’s been using on the Showcase since 1973.”

The acclaimed Sherman’s Showcase will roll out its “Black History Month Spectacular” by honoring historic African-American icons both past and present, alongside superheroes, period dramas, vampires, and a very special re-imagining of the cult film The Last Dragon. Guest stars in the “Black History Month Spectacular” include (in alphabetical order) rapper Phonte Coleman, Michael Ealy (Stumptown, Westworld), journalist Jemele Hill, Lil Rel Howery (Get Out, Rel), actor and TV host Terrence J, series executive producer and Emmy®-, GRAMMY®-, Oscar®– and Tony®-winner John Legend, rapper and activist Vic Mensa, GRAMMY® winner Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, Bresha Webb (Marlon, The Last O.G.), Vanderpump Rules’ Tom Sandoval and Tom Schwartz, GRAMMY® winner Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter, Tyrin Turner (Menace II Society), Mario Van Peebles (Heartbreak Ridge) and more.

Sherman’s Showcase Season 1 is currently available to watch on Hulu, iTunes, Google Play, Amazon and XBOX. Full-length versions of the songs from the series are available via digital release and vinyl from Mad Decent, the Los Angeles-based record label founded by Thomas Wesley Pentz, better known as Diplo.

Creators and stars Diallo Riddle and Bashir Salahuddin serve as executive producers on the series, along with John Legend, Mike Jackson and Ty Stiklorious through their Get Lifted Film Co. (La La Land, Underground, Jesus Christ Superstar). Pete Aronson serves as executive producer, and Frank Scherma and Jim Bouvet of RadicalMedia (Stan Against Evil, Conversations With a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes) also executive produce.

AMC Studios Content Distribution is managing worldwide sales of the show.

Amanda Peet as Jules, Hank Azaria as Jim Brockmire

The fourth and final season of IFC’s critically acclaimed comedy series Brockmire starring Hank Azaria comes to its conclusion with the series’ finale episode on Wednesday, May 6th, 2020 at 10:00pm ET/PT. In Wednesday’s series finale, “The Long Offseason,” artificial intelligence takes steps in pursuit to rule the world and attempts to take over baseball.

Brockmire follows Jim Brockmire (Hank Azaria), a famed major league baseball announcer who suffered a notorious public breakdown after stumbling upon his wife’s (Katie Finneran) infidelity – a breakdown so bad that “Brutal Brockmire” became a viral internet meme. In Season 4, it’s 15 years into the dystopian future and Brockmire is now the Commissioner of baseball as the once legendary baseball announcer is now back on top and his struggles with sobriety are behind him. However, at this later stage of his life he is tasked with saving America’s pastime as the world around him descends into chaos, all while trying to salvage his relationship with his newfound daughter (Reina Hardesty) and rekindle the love he once had for Jules (Amanda Peet).

Brockmire originally appeared as a viral short video on the award-winning comedy website Funny Or Die. The series is written and developed by Joel Church-Cooper. This season Azaria, Church-Cooper and Funny Or Die’s Mike Farah and Joe Farrell are executive producers. Mo Marable is also an executive producer and series director.

Ioan Gruffudd as Andrew Earlham

The second season of Sundance TV’s award-winning six-part thriller, Liar, continues Wednesday, May 6th at 11:00 pm ET/PT. In Wednesday’s all-new episode, Andrew is pushed to the edge and concocts a drastic plan. In the present day, Laura is blindsided by evidence and seeks to discover its origin. She must get the information she needs and with Katy and Liam’s help, she’s led to a new suspect.

The next chapter in the enthralling series picks up three weeks after damning evidence proved Andrew Earlham (Ioan Gruffudd) sexually assaulted 19 women, when his body is found in the Kent marshes. As one of Andrew’s more recent victims, Laura Nielson (Joanne Froggatt) can’t help feeling relieved by the news of his death. The last three weeks spent with him out there and missing have not been easy. Yet the seaside community is rocked when the case quickly becomes a murder investigation. Out of town officer DI Karen Renton (Katherine Kelly) is put in charge of the case, and together with DS Rory Maxwell (Danny Webb), they begin to unpack the events of the three crucial weeks leading up to Andrew’s death. As the search to find Andrew’s killer gains momentum, many will be forced to face up to the secrets of their recent past, secrets many of them hope will stay buried.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan and wife Hilarie Burton Morgan at home in New York State April 2020

A new episode of Friday Night In with The Morgans, a half-hour video-chat-based show hosted by Jeffrey Dean Morgan (The Walking Dead) and his wife Hilarie Burton Morgan (One Tree Hill) from their farm in upstate New York, airs on Friday, May 8th at 10:00pm ET/PT.

In Friday’s episode, the Morgans are joined by Paul Rudd (Parks and Recreation, Avengers: End Game) and his wife Julie Rudd, Kelly Ripa (Live! With Kelly and Ryan) and her husband Mark Consuelos (All My Children, Riverdale) and John Traver, the manager of the local candy store, Samuel’s Sweet Shop, via video chat to discuss handling life in quarantine, practically helping communities, finding joy and even humor in these unprecedented times.

Martin Compston as Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure as Detective Inspector Kate Fleming

Season one of Acorn TV’s hit British police drama, Line of Duty, continues on Saturday, May 9th at 11:00 pm ET/PT. In Saturday’s episode, after a police convoy is ambushed, the investigation centers on DI Lindsay Denton, the sole survivor. Denton quickly goes from valuable witness to prime suspect.

Run by zealous Superintendent Ted Hastings (Adrian Dunbar), AC-12’s target is the gifted, charismatic Detective Chief Inspector Tony Gates (Lennie James), whose unit returns the best crime figures on the force. Gates appears to be an exemplary police officer and hard-working family man, but Hastings is convinced Gates’ results are too good to be true. Determined to expose Gates as a fraud or worse, Hastings recruits Detective Sergeant Steve Arnott (Martin Compston) to the unit. Meanwhile, fascinated by Gates but for very different reasons, an ambitious young Detective Constable, Kate Fleming (Vicky McClure), coaxes herself onto his unit, teaming up with Gates’ loyal lieutenants, Detective Sergeant Matthew “Dot” Cottan (Craig Parkinson) and Detective Constable Nigel Morton (Neil Morrissey). And, as if being under investigation isn’t enough of a complication for Gates, he’s also trying to hide an affair with an old flame (Gina McKee). Every time Gates seems cornered, he finds a way to turn the tables. But all the while he’s digging a bigger hole for himself, plunging irrevocably into a moral abyss. And as the stakes get higher, soon it isn’t just careers on the line – it’s lives.

Line of Duty is written by Jed Mercurio (Bodyguard, Critical), and produced by World Productions for BBC Two. Mercurio, Simon Heath (The Great Train Robbery, The Bletchley Circle) and Stephen Wright serve as executive producers.

A new episode of AMC’s weekly digital series, Bottomless Brunch at Colman’s, a 30-minute video-chat based show hosted by Colman Domingo (Fear the Walking Dead, Zola, Candyman) from his home in Los Angeles, will be available on The Walking Dead YouTube Channel on Sunday, May 10 at 2pm ET/11am PT. Guests in the second episode include Nicholas Braun (Succession) and Riley Keough (Zola.) Viewers can also watch the show at amc.com or the Fear the Walking Dead Facebook, Instagram and Twitter pages.

The new digital series taps into Domingo’s favorite way to stay connected to his community of family and friends – brunch – and takes it virtual. Prior to his career as a writer, actor and director, Domingo worked in the service industry — and his love of bar and restaurant life has never left him (he is also the owner of the restaurant The Wolves in downtown LA). In each week’s episode, Domingo will send a couple of his friends all the mixings for his cocktail of choice, ask them to make something delicious and invite them to join him for a virtual brunch to talk about life today and how they are coping.

Jodie Comer as Villanelle

Season three of BBC America’s hit Killing Eve continues on Sunday, May 10th at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on BBC America and AMC. In Sunday’s all-new episode, “Are You From Pinner,” Villanelle returns home to Mother Russia to try to find her family. Perhaps a new connection to her roots will give her back what’s been missing in her life.

The third season continues the story of two women with brutal pasts, addicted to each other but now trying desperately to live their lives without their drug of choice. For Villanelle, the assassin without a job, Eve is dead. For Eve, the ex-MI6 operative hiding in plain sight, Villanelle will never find her. All seems fine until a shocking and personal death sets them on a collision course yet again. The journey back to each other will cost both of them friends, family, and allegiances…and perhaps a share of their souls.

Kid Cudi in Creepshow’s “Bad Wolf Down”

Season one of Shudder’s hit horror anthology series Creepshow continues Monday, May 11th at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on AMC. In Wednesday’s all-new episode, “Union Negotiations,” Jules leads union negotiations, while she and Jim try to negotiate the terms of their relationship.

Will Laura’s past catch up with her, just as Andrew’s did?

Increasingly desperate and unwilling to await his fate, Gates goes on the run, ready to play one last card.

IFC FILMS PICKS UP U.S. RIGHTS TO LUSH PERIOD DRAMA ‘SUMMERLAND’

IFC FILMS PICKS UP U.S. RIGHTS TO LUSH PERIOD DRAMA ‘SUMMERLAND’ STARRING GEMMA ARTERTON AND DIRECTED BY JESSICA SWALE

NEW YORK, NY (APRIL 20, 2020) – IFC Films announced today that it is acquiring U.S. rights to SUMMERLAND, the directorial feature debut from director/writer Jessica Swale. Jessica is an Olivier award-winning theatre director and was hailed as one of Variety’s Brits to Watch in 2019. The film stars Gemma Arterton (THEIR FINEST, VITA AND VIRGINIA), Gugu Mbatha-Raw (MOTHERLESS BROOKLYN, BELLE), Penelope Wilton (DOWNTON ABBEY, PRIDE AND PREJUDICE), and Tom Courtenay (45 YEARS, DOCTOR ZHIVAGO). Producing are Guy Heeley (LOCKE) and Adrian Sturges (THE DISAPPEARANCE OF ALICE CREED). IFC Films will release the film on July 31st, 2020.
SUMMERLAND follows the story of fiercely independent folklore investigator, Alice (Gemma Arterton) who secludes herself in her clifftop study, debunking myths using science to disprove the existence of magic. Consumed by her work, but also profoundly lonely, she is haunted by a love affair from her past. When spirited young Frank (Lucas Bond), an evacuee from the London Blitz, is dumped into her irritable care, his innocence and curiosity awaken Alice’s deeply buried emotions. Bravely embracing life’s miraculous unpredictability, Alice learns that wounds may be healed, second chances do occur, and that – just perhaps – magic really does exist.
Arianna Bocco EVP of Acquisitions and Productions at IFC Films said, “SUMMERLAND reinforces the importance of opening oneself up to love and kindness in all different forms, and we’re proud to bring this powerful message and fierce debut from Jessica Swale to capture the hearts of audiences right now.”
Director Jessica Swale added, “I’m delighted to be working with IFC to bring Summerland to the US. Summerland is about hope, imagination and the possible existence of magic. It is about finding light after darkness, and, as such, has never felt more timely. I can’t wait to share this story, in which Gemma gives a performance unlike anything we have seen her do before, as a woman who learns to embrace life, against all odds, in all its complexity and diversity”.
The deal for the film was negotiated by IFC Films’ EVP of Acquisitions and Productions Arianna Bocco with Embankment Films and Gersh on behalf of the filmmakers.
Summerland is a Quickfire and BFI presentation of a Shoebox Films and Iota Films production.

Hank Azaria as Jim Brockmire

The fourth and final season of IFC’s critically acclaimed comedy series Brockmire starring Hank Azaria continues on Wednesday, April 15th, 2020 at 10:00pm ET/PT. In Wednesday’s all-new episode, “Double Header,” Jules tries to win Beth’s approval of the relationship she and Brockmire are trying to rekindle.

Joanne Froggatt as Laura Nielson, Katherine Kelly as DI Karen Renton

The second season of Sundance TV’s award-winning six-part thriller, Liar, continues Wednesday, April 15th at 11:00 pm ET/PT. In Wednesday’s all-new episode, when suspicions fall on Ian, Laura is left questioning whom she can trust. She turns to a former ally. Meanwhile in the past, Oliver brings Andrew some devastating news, leading him to make a dangerous excursion.

Friday Night In with The Morgans, a half-hour video-chat-based show hosted by Jeffrey Dean Morgan (The Walking Dead) and his wife Hilarie Burton Morgan (One Tree Hill) from their farm in upstate New York, premieres on Friday, April 17th at 10:00pm ET/PT.

In Friday’s premiere episode, the Morgans are joined by Jensen Ackles (Supernatural) and his wife Danneel Ackles (One Tree Hill), Christian Serratos (Selena: The Series, The Walking Dead) and family friend and local physician Dr. Sharagim Kemp via video chat to discuss handling life in quarantine, practically helping communities, finding joy and even humor in these unprecedented times.

Lennie James as DCI Tony Gate

Season one of Acorn TV’s hit British police drama, Line of Duty, continues on Saturday, April 18th at 11:00 pm ET/PT. In Saturday’s episode, as witness to a murder, Gates realizes he also has to cover up his own misdeeds. Meanwhile, an increasingly confrontational Arnott closes in on Gates, and it’s clear he’s prepared to take more and more risks to bring Gates down.

Fiona Shaw as Carolyn Martens, Sandra Oh as Eve Polastri

Season three of BBC America’s hit Killing Eve continues on Sunday, April 19th at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on BBC America and AMC. In Sunday’s all-new episode, “Management Sucks,” Eve and Carolyn are reeling. Eve strikes up an unlikely alliance with Kenny’s colleagues at the Bitter Pill. Villanelle finds that management isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

Rhea Seehorn as Kim Wexler and Bob Odenkirk as Jimmy McGill
Season five of Better Call Saul concludes on Monday, April 20th at 9:00p.m ET/PT on AMC. In the season five finale, “Something Unforgivable,” Jimmy and Kim make a sideways move that takes a serious turn. Nacho gets closer to the cartel than he’d like.

In the 10-episode fifth season of Better Call Saul, Jimmy McGill’s (Odenkirk) decision to practice law as “Saul Goodman” creates unexpected and profound waves of change for those in his orbit. The series stars Bob Odenkirk, Rhea Seehorn, Jonathan Banks, Michael Mando, Giancarlo Esposito, Patrick Fabian and Tony Dalton, and is executive produced by showrunner Peter Gould, Vince Gilligan, Mark Johnson, Melissa Bernstein and Thomas Schnauz. Better Call Saul garnered a 2018 Peabody Award, and, over four seasons, has earned 32 Emmy® Award nominations, three Golden Globe® Award nominations, two Writers Guild Awards, three Critics’ Choice Awards, two Television Critics Association Awards and three AFI Awards for “TV Programs of the Year,” among many other Guild nominations.

Eve Lindley as Simone, Sally Field as Janice, Andre Benjamin as Fredwynn, Jason Segel as Peter

Dispatches From Elsewhere continues on Monday, April 20th at 10:25 p.m. ET/PT on AMC. In Monday’s all-new episode, “The Creator,” Simone, Peter, and Janice explore new interests, while Fredwynn finds it hard to let go.
Created by and starring Jason Segel, the ten-hour series is centered around four ordinary people who feel there’s something missing in their lives, but they can’t quite put their finger on what it is. This diverse foursome is brought together by chance – or perhaps it’s by design – when they stumble onto a puzzle hiding just behind the veil of everyday life. As they begin to accept the mysterious ‘Dispatches from Elsewhere’ challenges, they come to find that the mystery winds deeper than they imagined, and their eyes are opened to a world of possibility and magic. Starring alongside Segel are Academy® and Emmy® Award-winner Sally Field, Academy Award®-nominee Richard E. Grant, multi-GRAMMY Award®-winner André Benjamin and rising star Eve Lindley.
The AMC Studios production is executive produced by Segel, Scott Rudin, showrunner Mark Friedman, Garrett Basch, Eli Bush, Jeff Freilich and Alethea Jones.
