SIX HOURS OF NEW PROGRAMMING TO AIR SEPTEMBER 10 AND 11 WITH ‘9/11: FOUR FLIGHTS,’ ‘RISE AND FALL: THE WORLD TRADE CENTER’ AND ‘9/11: FROM THE GROUND UP’ (W.T.)

NEW YORK, NY – April 12, 2021 – In commemoration of the 20th anniversary, The HISTORY(R) Channel is remembering the fallen of the September 11 terrorist attacks and paying tribute to the first responders and survivors with four new powerful two-hour documentaries. Co-produced by The 9/11 Memorial & Museum, “Revealed: The Hunt for Bin Laden,” will premiere on Sunday, May 2 from 8-10pm ET/PT on the 10th anniversary of the raid that found Osama bin Laden. Six hours of additional programming will premiere on September 10 and 11 with “9/11: Four Flights,” “Rise and Fall: The World Trade Center” and “9/11: From the Ground Up” (working title).

“Over the last 20 years, The HISTORY Channel has been committed to never forgetting the events of September 11 that changed this world forever by honoring the heroic individuals who perished or played an important role in that tragic time in our history,” said Eli Lehrer, Executive Vice President and Head of Programming for The HISTORY Channel. “Our mission as archivists of history is to continue to offer powerful documentaries with untold, poignant stories that provide a different perspective to that horrific day.”

“Revealed: The Hunt for Bin Laden” opens an unprecedented window into the hunt for the man who masterminded the September 11 attacks and then disappeared, thwarting American efforts to bring him to justice for nearly a decade. Ten years after the raid on Bin Laden’s hideout, this two-hour HISTORY Channel documentary will premiere on Sunday, May 2 from 8-10pm ET/PT providing a sweeping account of the story, linking policy, intelligence and military decision-making as they converged on a mysterious compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan. Those interviewed include not only President Barack Obama, Secretary Hillary Clinton, Secretary Robert Gates, CIA Director Leon Panetta, and Admiral William McRaven, but also key, though unnamed, intelligence officers, who narrowed the search for Bin Laden after years of no leads or false starts, and the military planners, SEAL operators and army pilots selected to carry out the raid.

Programming airing on September 10 and 11 will include:

“9/11: Four Flights”

Four flights – American 11, United 175, American 77, and United 93 – took off the morning of September 11, 2001 unaware of the life-changing events to follow and fate that would forever intertwine them. Through the powerful and personal narratives from family and friends, “9/11: Four Flights” tells the riveting and emotional human stories of those aboard each doomed jetliner. Looking at all four flights for the first time in one program, the two-hour documentary unveils a saga of surprising connections, strange coincidences and detrimental decisions. From one flight tracking another as it veered off course, barreling toward Manhattan, to the final heart-wrenching phone calls to some incredibly harrowing yet heroic moments, viewers will hear about the bravery of passengers, crew, air traffic controllers and more who tried in vain to intercept the airliners. On the 20th anniversary of this historic yet tragic event, we remember and honor those loved ones lost and the day that transformed a nation forever.

“Rise and Fall: The World Trade Center”

Through a unique architectural and engineering lens, “Rise and Fall: The World Trade Center” takes a chronological look at the conception, construction and destruction of the World Trade Center towers. It recounts the inspiring, true story behind the individuals who dreamed, planned and built a symbol of American strength and ambition. Step by step, viewers will witness the execution of this innovative and one-of-a-kind sky-high complex from early designs to overcoming technical challenges to its heart-wrenching collapse. The two-hour documentary covers the first terrorist attack on the WTC during the 1993 bombing and unpacks, in vivid detail, a timeline of how and why the building fell after terrorists flew commercial airliners into them on September 11. With the use of historical elements and graphics, expert interviews and courageous first-hand testimonies of the two attacks, the documentary reveals the wonders and vulnerabilities of these unforgettable buildings.

“9/11: From the Ground Up” (w.t.)

Marking the 20th anniversary of September 11, this two-hour documentary presents a unique and moving account of the day that changed the modern world. “9/11: From the Ground Up” (w.t.) is an intimate portrayal of the events of September 11 captured by ordinary people who chose to pick up their video cameras on that day. Featuring previously unseen video and unheard audio, and told without interview or commentary, this compelling documentary tells a unique story of their journey from confusion to comprehension, terror and relief.

In addition, The HISTORY Channel has forged a multi-faceted partnership with The 9/11 Memorial & Museum. As part of this partnership, the network will create original short form content under its “Save Our History” initiative telling the powerful stories about those who lost loved ones on September 11 and highlighting important artifacts in the museum’s collection as the world observes the 20th anniversary of the terrorist attacks. The HISTORY Channel will also support the museum’s mission to keep the history of September 11 alive through dissemination of educational content and virtual events for teachers and students.

Previously announced and available now, The HISTORY Channel 8-part podcast series, Blindspot: The Road to 9/11 brings together the voices of U.S. government and intelligence officials, national security experts, associates of the terrorists and more to tell the little-known story of the lead-up to September 11.

Hosted by WNYC reporter Jim O’Grady and based on The HISTORY Channel television documentary “Road to 9/11,” the podcast series draws on interviews with more than 60 people – including FBI agents, high level bureaucrats, journalists, experts, and people who knew the terrorists personally – and weaves them together with original reporting to create a gripping, serialized narrative audio experience. The series can be heard on history.com, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, PocketCast and all other platforms where podcasts are available.

The HISTORY Channel has committed to providing an informative and historical record of the events that unfolded on and after September 11 – from crews documenting on the ground at the World Trade Center right after the attacks to playing a role in the recovery and return of the Ground Zero Flag to the Emmy(R) Award-winning documentary “102 Minutes That Changed America.” Over the past 20 years, the network has amassed over 70 premiere hours of September 11 related programming and produced more than 60 pieces of original digital content exploring every angle and providing different perspectives about the day that changed our nation forever.

THE HISTORY(R) CHANNEL GREENLIGHTS “FIGHT THE POWER: THE PROTESTS THAT CHANGED AMERICA” FROM EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS KAREEM ABDUL-JABBAR AND DEBORAH MORALES

NEW ONE-HOUR DOCUMENTARY TO EXAMINE THE HISTORY OF PROTESTS THAT HAVE SHAPED THE COURSE FOR JUSTICE IN AMERICA

New York, NY (March 3, 2021) – The HISTORY(R) Channel teams up again with NBA Legend, author and activist Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to greenlight the one-hour documentary, “Fight the Power: The Protests That Changed America” from executive producers Abdul-Jabbar and Deborah Morales of Iconomy Multi-Media & Entertainment and the Six West MediaTM Group, it was announced today during A+E Networks Upfront. This partnership marks the second collaboration between the network and Abdul-Jabbar, who received an Emmy nomination for outstanding narrator in “Black Patriots: Heroes of the Revolution.” The right to protest is embedded in every American’s DNA. Every major social and political advancement in our history – from labor, to race, to LGBTQ rights, to the women’s suffrage movement – has been the result of people taking to the streets to make their voices heard and demands known. “Fight the Power: The Protests That Changed America” will look at the impact key protests have had on the evolution of the United States, from past to present and explore the question: Does the arc of the moral universe bend toward justice when pressure is applied?

Public protest created this country in 1776 and continues to serve as a charged impetus for change in the 21st century. Civil disobedience has always forced our country to take an uncompromising look at itself to judge if we are on the right course. From protests in small cities fighting for local change to those that effect millions and garner national attention, every day people forged change. Anchored by sit down interviews and personal narratives from Abdul-Jabbar and supported with archival and current material, “Fight the Power: The Protests That Changed America” will explore the people and protests that shaped our societies, laws and culture, and that played an important role in making our country better.

“The history of protest in America is also the history of social progress,” said Kareem Adul-Jabbar.

“Fight the Power: The Protests That Changed America” is produced for HISTORY by the Six West MediaTM group. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Deborah Morales serve as executive producers for Iconomy Multi-Media & Entertainment. THE HISTORY CHANNEL GREENLIGHTS “TULSA BURNING: THE 1921 RACE MASSACRE” (WORKING TITLE) TO AIR TO COINCIDE WITH THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE TULSA RACE MASSACRE TRAGIC EVENTS

TWO-HOUR DOCUMENTARY TO BE EXECUTIVE PRODUCED BY NBA SUPER STAR RUSSELL WESTBROOK AND DIRECTED BY EMMY-AWARD WINNING STANLEY NELSON AND EMMY NOMINATED MARCO WILLIAMS

New York, NY – February 18, 2021 – The HISTORY(R) Channel announces the greenlight of the two-hour documentary “Tulsa Burning: The 1921 Race Massacre” (working title) from Peabody and Emmy-Award winner Stanley Nelson and Peabody and duPont-Award winner Marco Williams, NBA super star and philanthropist Russell Westbrook, Donnell Beverly (President of Russell Westbrook Enterprises), Blackfin (an eOne company) and Firelight Films. Directed by Nelson (“Freedom Riders”) and Marco Williams (Two Towns of Jasper) and executive produced by Westbrook, the project is slated to air this spring on The HISTORY(R) Channel timed to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921, one of the worst acts of racist violence in American history.

The HISTORY(R) Channel will also join the Russell Westbrook Why Not? Foundation, Endeavor, RedFlight Innovation and Values Partnerships to create an educational and experiential campaign focused on the history and legacy of Tulsa’s Black Wall street. It will provide historical context while encouraging young people nationwide to pursue avenues of innovation and entrepreneurship. The initiative will communicate the importance of investing in Black communities, with an emphasis on youth – connecting the docuseries to the need for progress and development now.

“The Tulsa Race Massacre was not something I was taught about in school or in any of my history books, said Westbrook. “It was only after spending 11 years in Oklahoma that I learned of this deeply troubling and heartbreaking event. This is one of many overlooked stories of African Americans in this country that deserves to be told. These are the stories we must honor and amplify so we can learn from the past and create a better future.”

“The horrific story of the burning of Black Wall Street has long haunted me,” said Nelson. “While I was able to touch on the Tulsa Race Massacre in a short segment in an earlier film, I knew this story needed a much deeper treatment. I’m grateful to be working on this film with such wonderful partners – Marco Williams with whom I have collaborated with on Tell Them We Are Rising, Russell Westbrook, Blackfin and The HISTORY Channel. Together we are aiming to restore Tulsa, Oklahoma and the fateful events surrounding the 1921 massacre of its Black residents to their rightful place in American history.”

“The HISTORY Channel is committed to educating our audience about the past, its impact on the present and its role in shaping the future,” said Eli Lehrer, Executive Vice President and Head of Programming for The HISTORY Channel. “Nearly 100 years later, the emotions from the Tulsa Race Massacre are still embedded in the fabric of our society and this poignant piece of our history is sadly relevant now more than ever, as racially charged events unfold before us during our present history. I am honored to partner with Russell, Stanley and Marco to tell this harrowing story with an authenticity and dignity only they can bring.”

“Tulsa Burning: The 1921 Race Massacre” (working title) will take an in-depth, sobering look at the events of a century ago and how the impact is still being felt today. The documentary will focus on a specific period, from the birth of Black Wall Street, to its catastrophic downfall over the course of two bloody days, and finally the fallout and reconstruction. It will also incorporate rare archival footage and imagery from the time, as well as weave in present-day stories and interviews from historians from organizations including the Tulsa Historical Society & Museum, the John Hope Franklin Center for Reconciliation, the Tulsa Race Massacre Centennial Commission, and the Historic Vernon AME Church, among others.

“Tulsa Burning: The 1921 Race Massacre” (working title) is produced for The HISTORY(R) Channel by Blackfin (an eOne Company) and Firelight Films. Nelson is set to direct along with Marco Williams. Westbrook is executive producer. Geno McDermott is executive producer for Blackfin. Nelson is executive producer for Firelight Films. THE HISTORY(R) CHANNEL ANNOUNCES “TUSKEGEE AIRMEN: LEGACY OF COURAGE” EXECUTIVE PRODUCED AND NARRATED BY ‘GOOD MORNING AMERICA’ ANCHOR ROBIN ROBERTS CELEBRATING THE HEROISM, LEGACY AND CONTRIBUTIONS OF AMERICA’S FIRST BLACK MILITARY PILOTS

ONE-HOUR DOCUMENTARY PREMIERES WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 10 AT 8PM ET/PT

Network Launches ‘Save Our History’ Campaign to Celebrate Everyday Heroes Who Contributed to Black History Both Past and Present

New York, NY – January 28, 2021 – The HISTORY(R) Channel announces its new one-hour documentary, “Tuskegee Airmen: Legacy of Courage,” executive produced and narrated by “Good Morning America” Anchor, Robin Roberts, premiering on Wednesday, February 10 at 8PM ET/PT. The special explores the history, legacy and impact of America’s first Black military pilots and how their significant contributions to this country inspired the next generation of activists and leaders pushing for racial equality and civic change. Featuring archival footage, and personal anecdotes from Roberts, whose father was a Tuskegee Airman, this powerful documentary will shine a light on the incredible men who sacrificed their lives despite all odds stacked against them.

“The legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen is one that I hold extremely close to my heart, and I am thrilled to partner with The HISTORY(R) Channel to tell their stories,” said Roberts. “My father, Colonel Lawrence E. Roberts, was a Tuskegee Airman, and their service helped pave the way for the Civil Rights Movement and contributed to the end of segregation in the military.”

In the summer of 1941, the nation’s very first class of Black fighter pilots began their training at the Tuskegee Institute of Alabama. Later, their extreme sacrifice and historic achievements would inspire great change and encourage the eventual desegregation of the United States armed forces. “Tuskegee Airmen: Legacy of Courage” takes viewers on a historical journey into this legendary group of military pilots and highlights their courage, grit, and determination. The special features found and exclusive footage, imagery and commentary from notable figures such as Tuskegee Airman Fighter Pilot General Charles McGee, Lt. Colonel James Harvey, the late Franklin J. Macon, activist Tamika Mallory, Reverend Al Sharpton, and actors Elijah Kelley (Red Tails) and Tristan Wilds (Red Tails).

Additionally, in celebration of Black History Month, The HISTORY(R) Channel will launch on February 1 a special extension of its award-winning “Save Our History” campaign by spotlighting everyday heroes whose contributions have impacted our communities and helped shape Black history. Family photos and videos are some of the most meaningful ways people connect to history and the network is calling on viewers to share their own piece of family history – no matter how big or small. Whether it be a grandfather who participated in the civil rights movement or served in the U.S. military, or an aunt who went to a famous concert that shaped Black culture, or helped desegregate our nation, everyday Americans forged change. Viewers are encouraged to upload a photo or video to Instagram or Twitter using #SaveOurHistory @HISTORY and The HISTORY Channel will help tell these stories and preserve this content for future generations. Several stories will be chosen to be featured on the network’s linear and social media platforms throughout February and beyond. Roberts will kick off the campaign by sharing her personal story about her history hero – her father – who served during WWII as a Tuskegee Airman. “Save Our History” is The HISTORY Channel’s ongoing public outreach campaign dedicated to preserving history and to date has helped preserve historic sites and stories nationwide.

“Tuskegee Airmen: Legacy of Courage” is produced for The HISTORY(R) Channel by Rock’n Robin Productions. Robin Roberts and John R. Green serve as executive producers for Rock’n Robin Productions. Reni Calister is co-Executive Producer. Mary E. Donahue serves as executive producer for The HISTORY(R) Channel.

THE HISTORY(R) CHANNEL REUNITES AMERICA’S FAVORITE DUO TIM ALLEN AND RICHARD KARN IN THE NEW COMPETITION SERIES “ASSEMBLY REQUIRED” PREMIERING TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 23 AT 10PM ET/PT

NEW SERIES BRINGS THE BEST AND BRIGHTEST BUILDERS TOGETHER FROM ACROSS THE COUNTRY TO COMPETE IN MIND-BLOWING WEEKLY HEAD-TO-HEAD COMPETITIONS

Woodworking Do-It-Yourself YouTube Star April Wilkerson Joins as Series’ Resident Expert

New York, NY – January 25, 2021 – The HISTORY Channel sets the premiere date for its new nonfiction series “Assembly Required” starring and executive produced by Golden Globe(R) winner Tim Allen (“Last Man Standing,” “Home Improvement”) as he reunites with Richard Karn (“Pen15,” “Home Improvement”) who will serve as series host and executive producer, marking the 30th anniversary of the pair’s original television debut. Additionally, the duo will be joined by woodworking do-it-yourself YouTube star April Wilkerson who will act as the series’ own resident expert. In this new hourly, 10-episode competition series premiering Tuesday, February 23 at 10PM ET/PT Allen and Karn spotlight the best and brightest makers from across the country, as they compete head-to-head, to create mind-blowing builds– everything from a dual all-season ice melter/leaf blower and all-in-one riding comfort mower to a do-it-yourself jacuzzi and BBQ bicycle — which not only pushes each builder beyond their limits but challenges their inner fixer and inventor to build it bigger, better and more powerful. The series hails from producers Spoke Studios, ITV America and Boxing Cat Entertainment.

“They say a longtime friend is someone who responds with, ‘This is by far your worst idea ever’… Fortunately, this was a great idea working with Richard” said Allen. “I loved those days doing ‘Tool Time.’ We both share a great appreciation of people who can solve a problem not by talking about it, but by ‘doing’ it with creativity and amazing building skills. Plus it gives me more time to make fun of his fake beard.”

“Tim has always been jealous of my facial hair…mainly because when he grows his it looks a bit off…but I will say this has been one of his best ideas ever,” said Karn.” “Working alongside him has been the bright spot of this difficult year. We see eye to eye on a lot of things, but if nothing else this show has brought out the differences in our own personal design preferences and when you add in the creativity of our contestants, well let’s just say, it brings me great joy to be a part of this!”

Each week, “Assembly Required” features three incredible makers who compete from their own home shops to create insane builds with their bare hands while both Allen and Karn pop in virtually to deliver colorful commentary and oversee their work across two challenge rounds. Resident expert April Wilkerson serves as Tim and Richard’s go-to source on the ‘how and why’ of each build, breaking down the complexities and giving the audience a bird’s eye view of what our challengers are up against.

Round one consists of the “make-or-break challenge” where all three makers have 90 minutes to build an item of Allen and Karn’s choosing while using the items specifically curated for them in their “mystery crates.” Round one builds this season include a fire extinguisher, water fountain, treadmill and handheld vacuum to name a few. All three makers will test their final constructs for the guys with only two moving on to round two to compete in the “run-with-it challenge.” Here they will have five full days to construct something that has never been created before by using the contents of another “mystery crate” as well as parts from their round one build. What the final two don’t know is Wilkerson will throw a proverbial “wrench” into their plans with “April’s Secret Challenge,” covertly tricking up one of the parts, so it will require a surprise repair. This ensures they aren’t just builders and inventors but also fixers. The final two builds will be shipped to Allen’s workshop where he and Karn will personally test each creation based on three criteria — quality, design and functionality. The winning maker takes home $5,000 in cash and the ultimate bragging rights.

“Assembly Required” is produced for The HISTORY Channel by Spoke Studios, ITV America and Boxing Cat Entertainment. Joining Allen and Karn as executive producers are Brent Montgomery, Ed Simpson, Joe Weinstock, Will Nothacker, Simon Thomas, Vince Cariati and Katherine D. Fox. Eli Lehrer, Mary E. Donahue and Max Micallef serve as executive producers for The HISTORY Channel.

Strand Kicks Off With ‘The Final Hunt For D.B. Cooper’ Chronicling An Expert Team As They Attempt to Solve the Only Unsolved Skyjacking in U.S. History

New York, NY – October 14, 2020 – The HISTORY(R) channel sets the premiere date for its new non-fiction programming strand “History’s Greatest Mysteries,” hosted and narrated by Academy Award(R) nominee and Emmy Award(R) winner Laurence Fishburne, which investigates a wide range of historically compelling topics and the mysteries that pervade each including the Titanic, Roswell, John Wilkes Booth and Sir Ernest Shackleton’s lost ice ship. Kicking off with “The Final Hunt for D.B. Cooper,” premiering Saturday, November 14 at 9PM ET/PT, each title within the franchise will showcase fresh, new evidence and perspectives including never-before-released documents to the public, personal diaries and DNA evidence to unearth new facts and information about these infamous and enigmatic chapters in history.

On November 24, 1971, a man calling himself Dan Cooper boarded Northwest Orient Airlines flight #305 in Portland bound for Seattle, wearing a dark suit and a black tie. While in the air, he opened his briefcase showing a bomb to the flight attendant and hijacked the plane. The plane landed in Seattle where he demanded $200,000 in cash, four parachutes and food for the crew before releasing all the passengers. With only three pilots and one flight attendant left on board, they took off from Seattle heading south. Shortly after takeoff, Cooper donned the parachute, tied the bank bag full of twenty-dollar bills to himself, lowered the rear stairs and, somewhere north of Portland, jumped into the night, never to be seen again. Although the FBI followed thousands of leads, this case has never been solved. As we approach the 49th anniversary, the mystery surrounding the whereabouts of Cooper has captivated a nation and continued to remain a pop culture obsession – inspiring songs, movies, tv shows and books. With over 7,500 hours investigating this mystery including analyzing evidence, interviewing witnesses, reading 20,000+ pages of FBI case files and exploring important locations, top D.B. Cooper expert, Eric Ulis, believes he’s found the true location where Cooper landed during his daring dive. In “The Final Hunt For D.B. Cooper,” he and his assembled team of specialists will head to the untouched Washington backcountry to hunt for missing evidence Cooper may have left behind. In addition, armed with new leads regarding the identity of Cooper, Eric works closely with a retired FBI agent as they set their sights on a living person of interest who could very well be the infamous D.B. Cooper.

Additional enigmas investigated as part of “History’s Greatest Mysteries” include a 108-year-old box filled with the investigative notes of Lord Mersey, the man tasked with leading the official inquiry into the sinking of the Titanic in “Titanic’s Lost Evidence” and in “Roswell: First Witness” a personal diary found in the belongings of Major Jesse Marcel, the first person to investigate the wreckage in Roswell, NM believed to contain coded clues to what really happened. Also in “The Escape of John Wilkes Booth” investigators now have access to 60 boxes of personal materials including marriage certificates and what is believed to be his will and, for the first time, will execute facial recognition as well as DNA testing to provide intel as to whether he died in a fire following the assassination of Abraham Lincoln or if he faked his death as many believed. Lastly, considered one of the most famous expeditions of the 20th century, Sir Ernest Shackleton and 27 men set sail on a disastrous mission to cross Antarctica in 1914 whereupon its arrival their ship sank under the ice. Led by maritime archeologist and shipwreck expert, Mensun Bound, the expedition chronicled in “Endurance: The Hunt For Shackleton’s Ice Ship” is the result of two years of planning and over $250 million spent in cutting edge technology to locate this holy grail of shipwrecks.

The full “History’s Greatest Mysteries” programming lineup includes:
