Gina Rodriguez, Xolo Maridueña and Tom Kenny Lead Batman’s Iconic Rogues Gallery in Batwheels

DC’s First Preschool Animated Series Produced by Warner Bros. Animation Premieres This Fall on Cartoonito on HBO Max and Cartoon Network

May 19, 2022 – Burbank, CA – Holy Hubcaps! Cartoonito is revving up for Batwheels, announcing today the DC Super-Villain voice cast lineup. Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin) as Catwoman, Xolo Maridueña (Cobra Kai) as Snowy the Snowcrawler, and Tom Kenny (Spongebob Squarepants) as Crash, lead the talented cast voicing some of Batman’s most iconic adversaries in the upcoming preschool action-adventure animated comedy.

The villains will go bumper-to-bumper against the heroes of Batwheels voiced by the previously announced cast led by Ethan Hawke (as Batman), Jacob Bertrand (as Bam the Batmobile), and AJ Hudson (as Duke Thomas/Robin). Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, the series will race onto Cartoonito on HBO Max and Cartoon Network this fall.

The evil counterpart to the heroic Batwheels, the Legion of Zoom is a team of sentient vehicles brought to computerized life by Badcomputer, the new ultimate computer of the DC Universe. They, like the Batwheels, are essentially kids with little to no life experience. However, unlike the Batwheels, “The Zooms” are under Badcomputer’s malevolent guidance and often don’t make the best decisions. Prank, the Jokermobile, and the rest of the villainous squad wreak havoc on Gotham City alongside The Joker, Catwoman, Harley Quinn, and more of the Caped Crusader’s infamous rogues gallery.

The complete DC Super-Villain voice cast lineup includes:

The Legion of Zoom

· Griffin Burns (The Addams Family 2) as Prank – The Joker’s favorite ride, Prank is tricked out with all manner of pernicious pranks – confetti cannons, a joy buzzer, and the like. Prank is often more interested in having a good laugh at someone’s expense than carrying out a plan.

· Alexandra Novelle as Jetstah – Harley Quinn’s souped-up ATV, Jetstah displays all of the same obnoxious irreverence as her owner, along with an even bigger, badder giant mallet! Jetstah is full of tricks and loves to mock and tease the Batwheels as they chase her through the streets of Gotham City.

· Josey Montana McCoy (Genshin Impact) as Quizz – Like his owner, The Riddler’s helicopter loves to befuddle the Batwheels with riddles, but unlike The Riddler’s, his riddles don’t always make sense. Quizz has the ability to skywrite them, broadcast them, and even drop parachuted riddle leaflets from above. As the youngest of the Zooms, Quizz is prone to throwing tantrums, especially when no one can figure out his riddles, even when they’re “sooooooo obvious!”

· Ariyan Kassam (Great Pretender) as Ducky – The Penguin’s vehicle is an amphibious duck boat. Ducky can travel on land or sea, and is equipped with an array of sneaky surprises like umbrella shields and a squid-ink sprayer. He is a bit of a snob like his owner, and doesn’t always get along with the rest of the Zooms.

· Xolo Maridueña (Cobri Kai) as Snowy – Mr. Freeze’s snowcrawler is armed with snow blowers and icicle missiles that can freeze opponents in their tracks. But due to his big, clumsy treads, Snowy is the slowest of the Zooms, often lagging behind and becoming the object of derision. Because of the way he’s treated by his teammates, he sometimes thinks about swapping sides and joining the Batwheels, though he would never admit that to the other Zooms.

· SungWon Cho as Badcomputer – Badcomputer will not rest until he reigns supreme as the most advance computer intelligence in Gotham City – a title threatened by the hyper-advanced Batcomputer. As a being of refined intellect, Badcomputer holds little patience for the humbling antics of the Legion of Zoom, but fueled by his unrelenting jealousy of Batcomputer’s impressive hardware, he’ll have to settle for the tools he has at his disposal. It’s hard to get good help these days…

· Tom Kenny (Spongebob Squarepants) as Crash – Badcomputer’s robotic minion, Crash is a begrudgingly obedient test dummy tasked with assisting Badcomputer’s evil schemes. Despite being constantly blown to bits (often accompanied by his signature snark and quick wit), Crash is a powerful adversary who can hold his own against the Batwheels.

The Rogues Gallery

· Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin) as Catwoman – The sneakiest of our Super-Villains, Catwoman loves to utilize her stealth and cunning to get her claws on the shiniest of trinkets and baubles Gotham City has to offer. Though she prefers to work alone, Catwoman is no stranger to playing both sides – good or bad – in order toget what she wants.

· Mick Wingert (What If?) as The Joker – The ultimate prankster, all The Joker wants is to make everyone laugh… No matter how far he needs to go! The Joker revels in pushing Batman’s buttons, and if it means he can sneak off with a few bundles of cash from the bank in the process, even better! The Joker rarely takes anything seriously, but nothing makes his blood boil quite like getting burned by Batman.

· Chandni Parekh (Big Nate) as Harley Quinn – Harley Quinn is the hyper kid on the block with no boundaries. She’s all about fun all the time – and what’s more fun than dunking on Batman? Nothing! Harley’s got a penchant for fast-paced heists and daredevil antics. Watch out for that mallet!

· SungWon Cho as The Riddler – The Riddler would probably be respected for his quick wit and clever mind if he weren’t such a nagging know-it-all! He’s a super-nerd that thinks he’s the smartest person in Gotham City, and he’s on a personal mission to make everyone know it.

· Jess Harnell (Animaniacs) as Penguin – A villain with a bottomless appetite for more, more, more! Penguin is the spoiled man-child of the bunch, always wanting to have the biggest, most ambitious schemes and heists. But with his mega-inflated ego, Penguin is also prone to throwng mega-tantrums when things don’t go his way. He’ll stop at nothing to get things his way – even if it means throwing his fellow Super-Villains under the bus.

· Regi Davis (Mindhunter) as Mr. Freeze- A grouch and a grinch, Mr. Freeze is the ultimate downer who always seems to wake up on the wrong side of the bed. Just about everything (especially fun, ugh!) annoys his peevish popsicle – so he sees it as his personal mission to ice over Gotham City to make things nice and quiet. You don’t want to end up on the wrong side of his ice cannon (of his signature ice-based puns).

· James Arnold Taylor (Star Wars: The Clone Wars & Rebels) as Toyman – Toyman loves nothing but playing with the latest and greatest toys – the only problem is, his idea of “toys” increasingly seems to encompass volatile high-technology. All he wants to do is play in peace, but that pesky Batman keeps ruining his playdates. He might be a bit of a choking hazard for the Caped Crusader.

Previously announced DC Super Heroes joining Hawke’s Batman, Bertrand’s Bam, and Hudson’s Robin include the rest of the Batwheels team – Bibi (The Batgirl Cycle) voiced by Madigan Kacmar, Redbird (Robin’s Sports Car) voiced by Jordan Reed, The Batwing voiced by Lilimar, and Buff (The Bat Truck) voiced by Noah Bentley – plus Bat-family member Cassandra Cain/Batgirl voiced by Leah Lewis. The Batwheels are cared for by their trainer and mother figure Batcomputer, voiced by Kimberly D. Brooks, and Batman’s robot repairman Mo, voiced by Mick Wingert.

More about Batwheels

They are a team of incredible crimefighters who have banded together to oppose evil, combat crime and clean up the streets of Gotham City. They are… okay, they’re NOT Batman and Robin. They’re the Batwheels – an awesome group of sentient super-powered crime-fighting vehicles defending Gotham City alongside Batman, Robin, Batgirl and a host of DC Super Heroes.

Having just been created by the Batcomputer, our heroes are essentially kids with little to no life experience. Led by Bam (The Batmobile), the Batwheels – Bibi (The Batgirl Cycle), Redbird (Robin’s Sports Car), The Batwing and Buff (The Bat Truck) – must navigate the growing pains of being a newly formed super team as well as the growing pains that come with just being a kid. This relatable and aspirational series will follow the journey of this dynamic team as they thrill and entertain with their heroic adventures as well as demonstrate to kids the value of self-confidence, friendship and teamwork.

Sam Register (Looney Tunes Cartoons) serves as executive producer. Michael G. Stern (Doc McStuffins) serves as co-executive producer, Simon J. Smith (Penguins of Madagascar) is supervising producer and Steven Fink of Bang Zoom Ltd. is producer.

Sacha Baron Cohen, Greg Daniels, Mike Judge and Michael Koman to Develop Animated Comedy Special, “Chelm: The Smartest Place on Earth,” For HBO Max and Cartoon Network

May 18, 2022 – Burbank, CA – HBO Max and Cartoon Network announced today that Sacha Baron Cohen (Academy Award-nominated Borat and Who Is America?) has teamed up with Greg Daniels (King of the Hill) and Mike Judge (King of the Hill) of the newly formed Bandera Entertainment, as well as Michael Koman (SNL, Co-Creator of Nathan for You, and Executive Producer of HBO’s How To with John Wilson) to bring their fresh wit to new, younger audiences with the family-oriented animated special, Chelm: The Smartest Place on Earth.

Set in the mythical “Town of Fools” and originally told in Yiddish, Chelm: The Smartest Place on Earth shares the absurdist humor and interpretive questioning that is a nod to Jewish intellectual traditions. Narrated by Sacha Baron Cohen, the special will present a fresh take on the silly antics and exaggerated conflicts of the town, while also preserving the essence and heart of the classic folktales.

“This pitch was so hilarious; we just knew the HBO Max audience needed to get a dose of this original brand of storytelling. Chelm: The Smartest Place on Earth is a perfect pairing of comedy and satire, and no one does that combination better than Sacha, Greg, Mike, and Michael,” said Amy Friedman, head of kids & family programming, Warner Bros. “This unique project will breathe new, hysterical life into the nonsensical Chelmic wisdom that originated from this imaginary city of folks who aren’t quite the sharpest tools in the shed.”

Sacha Baron Cohen, Greg Daniels, and Mike Judge are developing the story with Michael Koman, who is also attached to write. The four will executive produce the special, alongside Bandera’s President Dustin Davis.

Bandera is currently in production on Netflix’s Bad Crimes, a dark comedy procedural created by Nicole Silverberg with Nicole Byer and Lauren Lapkus voicing the leads, as well as Freeform’s Praise Petey, created by Anna Drezen, with Annie Murphy, Kiersey Clemons, Stephen Root, Christine Baranski and John Cho lending their vocal talents. First Character Images Revealed from the Upcoming HBO Max Animated Series “Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai”

Voice Cast Includes Ming-Na Wen, James Hong, BD Wong and Izaac Wang

Warner Bros. Animation and Amblin Television treated fans today to a first look at the Wing family from the upcoming HBO Max animated series, Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai. The close-knit family is at the center of this epic prequel series that unlocks the mystery of how a 10-year-old Sam Wing (future shop owner Mr. Wing in the 1984 Gremlins movie) met the young Mogwai called Gizmo. The series will debut this year on HBO Max and will also be available later as part of ACME Night on Cartoon Network.

Steeped in China’s rich culture and mythology, Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai takes viewers back to 1920s Shanghai where the Wing family first discovers the mysterious creature. Sam Wing, the youngest in the family, accepts the dangerous task to take Gizmo home and embarks on a journey through the Chinese countryside. Sam and Gizmo are joined by a teenage street thief named Elle, and together, they encounter – and sometimes battle – colorful monsters and spirits from Chinese folklore. Along their quest, they are pursued by a power-hungry industrialist and his growing army of evil Gremlins.

The Wing family is voiced by an esteemed cast led by Ming-Na Wen (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, The Mandalorian, Mulan), James Hong (Big Trouble in Little China, Blade Runner, Mulan) – who was recently honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this month, BD Wong (Mr. Robot, Jurassic World film franchise), and Izaac Wang.

· Fong Wing (voiced by Ming-Na Wen) – Fong Wing is Sam’s mother and a doctor of Chinese medicine. She’s resourceful, slyly funny, and fiercely protective of her family, even her frequently troublesome father. She’ll do anything to aid and protect her son.

· Grandpa (voiced by James Hong) – A free spirit and self-proclaimed expert in Chinese myth and magic, Grandpa is the elder of the Wing family. He claims to have traveled the world on grand adventures, but nobody really believed him… until now. He alone knows the true power (and secrets) of the Mogwai and the importance of protecting them.

· Hon Wing (voiced by BD Wong) – Hon Wing is Sam’s father and the family’s calm rock. He’s never believed his father-in-law’s tales of magic and adventure. But when he and Fong become separated from Sam, he realizes the world is stranger than he thought, and that he’ll need to become braver to reunite his family.

· Sam Wing (voiced by Izaac Wang) – Sam Wing is a naïve 10-year-old boy who will one day become Mr. Wing, the mysterious shopkeep and Gizmo’s guardian in the original Gremlins films. Young Sam lives with his family in the tiny apartment behind their struggling medicine shop. Sheltered and cautious, Sam will be thrown into the adventure of a lifetime when he promises his Grandpa he’ll get Gizmo home.

Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai is produced by Amblin Television in association with Warner Bros. Animation. Sam Register, President, Warner Bros. Animation and Cartoon Network Studios, and Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey, Presidents of Amblin Television are executive producers. Tze Chun serves as showrunner and executive producer. Brendan Hay serves as executive producer with Dan Krall serving as Supervising Producer.

I have never had more executives insist on a set visit.”

“Coming up with the idea to follow this young girl as she’s adjusting to a new culture where everything is different felt like a perfect narrative to capture the humor and awkwardness of this pivotal age,” said Michael Poryes. “I’m looking forward to seeing where Matt and Courtney take Lucy’s challenging story as they explore these funny, heartwarming moments of unfamiliar situations and attitudes, and how they all boil down to universal emotional truths of being a young teen.”

In a breakout role, Kensington Tallman (Drama Club) is Lucy, a 13-year-old American girl who finds herself living in Rome with her dad and new stepmom Francesca (Italian actor and singer, Eleonora Facchini), who happens to be a famous Italian pop star. As Lucy learns to adapt to her new city, new school, and new life, she’s also navigating through the growing pains of being a teenager, and the additional challenge of her best friend, Kyla, being 6000 miles away. Additional casting for the series is still underway.

Home Sweet Rome is executive produced by Pedro Citaristi of Red Monk Studio and Christina Piovesan of First Generation Films, along with Doug Schwalbe, Jérémie Fajner and Clement Calvet of SUPERPROD Group, Matt Huether, Courtney Jane Walker, and Michael Poryes.

HBO Max Expands Kids & Family Live-Action Slate with Acquisitions “Hank Zipzer,” “My Babysitter’s a Vampire,” and a New Season of Cult Teen Dance Drama, “The Next Step”

May 11, 2022 – Burbank, CA – HBO Max announced today three live-action acquisitions that will join the expanded list of kids and family programming on the streamer. They include Hank Zipzer, co-written by Emmy(R) Award-winner Henry Winkler and Lin Oliver; the paranormal adventures of My Babysitter’s a Vampire; and a new season of the cult favorite teen dance series, The Next Step. Additionally, seasons 5-7 of The Next Step will be available this summer.

Based on the New York Times best-selling book series “Hank Zipzer: The World’s Greatest Underachiever,” and inspired by Winkler’s true-life experiences, all three seasons of Hank Zipzer will debut this Friday, May 13, on HBO Max. Also streaming now is the entire 14-season library of Degrassi: The Next Generation, the longest running and most popular installment of the Degrassi franchise, with the new Degrassi series premiering in 2023.

Upcoming acquisitions include:

Hank Zipzer – Based on the New York Times best-selling book series “Hank Zipzer: The World’s Greatest Underachiever” co-written by Emmy(R) Award-winner Henry Winkler and Lin Oliver, and inspired by Winkler’s true-life experiences, this series follows 12-year-old Hank Zipzer, a smart and resourceful boy with dyslexia. Hank sees himself differently from the way the world sees him, so when problems arise, he deals with them in a way no one else would – putting him on a direct collision course with his teachers – Mr. Love and Miss Adolf – and parents, Rosa and Stan. With the help of his best friends Frankie and Ashley, the young boy with the big heart goes on a multitude of mischievous adventures, but often ends up learning a valuable lesson or two along with way. Hank Zipzer is produced by WildBrain, in association with Walker Productions and Kindle Entertainment. The series stars Nick James (The White Queen) as Hank, Juliet Cowan (Back to Life) as Rosa, Jayden Elijah (Life on Wheels) as Frankie, Neil Fitzmaurice (Brassic) as Stan, Chloe Wong as Ashley (season one), Alicia Lai (Doctors) as Ashley (seasons two and three), Nick Mohammed (Ted Lasso) as Mr. Love, Felicity Montagu (Bridget Jones’s Diary) as Miss Adolf, and Henry Winkler as Mr. Rock.

My Babysitter’s a Vampire – When Ethan Morgan’s (Matthew Knight, The Grudge 2) overprotective parents arrange for a babysitter to watch over him and his 8-year-old sister, he thought he’d die of embarrassment. But no need to worry, embarrassment is now the last thing on a long list of stuff that wants to kill him and his geeky pals Benny (Atticus Mitchell, The Hardy Boys) and Rory (Cameron Kennedy, Life with Boys). Although this babysitter may look like the girl of his dreams, Sarah (Vanessa Morgan, Riverdale) just happens to be half-vampire (a “fledgling” for you experts), dragging Ethan and his buddies into a world of wild supernatural battles against creatures straight out of their nightmares. Now, Ethan not only has to take on demons, ghosts, werewolves, and zombies, he still has to get his homework done and get to school on time. My Babysitter’s a Vampire is produced by Toronto-based Fresh TV and distributed globally by Boat Rocker. The series is currently scheduled to debut on HBO Max in October 2022.

The Next Step – The Next Step follows the highs and lows of an exceptional group of dancers as they learn to bet on themselves, believe in their team, and dance through their challenges on the way to making their dreams come true. Season eight kicks off with a groundbreaking 20-person opening dance, and in the absence of competition, A-Troupe and B-Troupe have settled their differences. Without Nationals on the table, everything seems peaceful at The Next Step, that is until Nick announces that Nationals is back on. This. Changes. Everything. The Next Step stars Briar Nolet (Let It Snow) as Richelle, Julian Lombardi (Paramnesia) as Ozzy, Kolton Stewart (Disenchanted) as Shad, Alexandra Chaves (Good Witch) as Piper, Shelby Bain as Amy, Sage Linder (Riverdale) as Summer, Katie Ortencio (Resolve) as Lily, and Noah Zulfikar (Z-O-M-B-I-E-S 2) as Kingston. Season eight of The Next Step is produced by Boat Rocker and distributed globally by Boat Rocker and BBC Studios. Season eight is set to premiere in 2023 on HBO Max. Seasons 5-7 will be available on the streamer this summer.

The First, American Girl: Corinne Tan, Features Real-Life Sisters, Miya and Kai Cech
May 11, 2022 – Burbank, CA – HBO Max and Cartoon Network announced today two live-action originals to appeal to and invite more girls to the platforms. Greenlights include two original 60-minute specials based on the beloved Mattel American Girl franchise. The first is American Girl: Corinne Tan (working title), inspired by the doll brand’s 2022 Girl of the Year and the first of Chinese descent. American Girl: Corinne Tan is produced by Mattel Television and MarVista Entertainment and is scheduled to premiere this December in the U.S. on Cartoon Network, available on HBO Max the following day. A second American Girl special, still to be announced, will follow next year.

American Girl: Corinne Tan stars Miya Cech (Corinne), from the upcoming indie film, Marvelous and the Black Hole, and her sister Kai Cech (Gwynn), in a story about sisterhood, perseverance, and self-acceptance as they adjust to life as part of a blended family after their parents’ divorce. Corinne finds new purpose along the way when she rescues a dog that, in a way, rescues her right back.

“The live-action specials announced today capture the sweetness, the funniness, the chaos, and the messy imperfect genius of growing up and becoming who you are. Let’s face it, most of us can still relate to all those feelings which makes this content so resonant,” said Amy Friedman, head of kids & family programming, Warner Bros. “These projects are a reflection of our commitment to bring in more girls and teens to HBO Max and Cartoon Network with authentic, fun, courageous, and emotional stories that speak to kids lives now.”

In American Girl: Corinne Tan, 13-year-old ski enthusiast Corrine Tan is still navigating her parents’ recent divorce while her 10-year-old sister Gwynn, dad, mom, and stepdad Arne have adjusted to their new roles in this blended family. She discovers a new purpose when she challenges herself to train a rambunctious puppy named Flurry to become a search-and-rescue dog. American Girl: Corinne Tan tells the inspirational story of a proud big sister as she comes to understand sisterhood, perseverance, and self-acceptance. This 60-minute special is directed by Angela Tortu (Fresh Off the Boat), and stars Miya Cech (Marvelous and the Black Hole, The Astronauts, Are You Afraid of the Dark) as Corinne, Kai Cech (The Longest Sleep) as her sister Gwynn, and Michelle Krusiec (Hollywood, Hawaii Five-O) as their mom, Judy.

Executive Producers for American Girl: Corinne Tan include Fred Soulie and Phil Breman for Mattel Television. Larry Grimaldi, Hannah Pillemer, and Fernando Szew serve as Executive Producers for MarVista Entertainment with Adam Shepard as Co-Executive Producer.

Two-Part Event from Endeavor Content and Wonder Worldwide Directed by Emily Ting Set to Premiere in Time for Valentine’s Day 2023

May 11, 2022 – Burbank, CA – HBO Max announced today the greenlight for the live-action two-part special event, B-Loved (working title), from Endeavor Content and Wonder Worldwide, starring Peyton List (Cobra Kai) as Bea, a free-spirited teenage ghost who forms a special friendship with the new boy in town, Cole, whose house she has been inhabiting for over 100 years. With the help of a magical ring that allows Cole to see Bea, they’ll rediscover the meaning of being alive, but also the importance of letting go. The ghostly romance written by Black List Nicholl Fellowship winner, Cesar Vitale, will be directed by Emily Ting (Tall Girl 2) and is scheduled to premiere in time for Valentine’s Day 2023 on HBO Max.

“Peyton List and Emily Ting are the dream duo for this special. They both bring humor, boldness, and humanity to the teenager experience,” said Amy Friedman, head of kids & family programming, Warner Bros. “Partnering with Tamara Rothenberg and Endeavor Content, along with Wonder Worldwide, on this project creates the perfect opportunity for us to speak to and serve a more inclusive girl audience.”

“I’ve played a lot of amazing characters and really grown with them over the years,” said Peyton List. “I’m looking forward to adding clever ghost girl from the 1920s. Even though she is from a different century, I think the feeling of having your first crush transcends time, and I hope the story of Cole and Bea resonates today.”

“The amazingly talented Peyton List and Emily Ting bring this romantic, emotional story to life in so many empowering and inclusive ways,” said Tamara Rothenberg, SVP, family and young adult, Endeavor Content. “We are excited to collaborate with Amy Friedman and the fabulous HBO Max team, whose passion, enthusiasm, and shared commitment to our vision confirmed that this was the right home for B-Loved. Along with Mark Burton and our Wonder Worldwide partners, we can’t wait for families to enjoy this innovative and uplifting special event together.”

Though she might find herself getting into precarious situations at times, she loves to explore unknown places. Bea gives her heart passionately to the things she loves, and with the help of new friend Cole, she starts to experience the world again.

B-Loved is executive produced by Mark Burton and Aaron Parry, Tracy K. Price, William Andrew, Ryan Malachowsky, and Jill Sanford.
