The Price of Freedom exposes the hidden past of the American gun debate and reveals how the outsized political and cultural influence of the National Rifle Association divided a nation and changed the course of American history, costing countless lives along the way. #ThePriceOfFreedom
The Price of Freedom premieres October 19 on HBO Max: http://itsh.bo/hbo-max
The United States is a nation mired in gun culture. Long-standing narratives about how guns are part of the American way intersect with the reality that people in the U.S. are 25 times more likely to die by gun violence than any other developed nation in the world. The only way to make progress is to come together as a country to meet the moment and demand action.
The Price of Freedom is an unflinching look at the gun violence epidemic in America and the role the National Rifle Association, with its outsized political and cultural influence, has played over time. The NRA believes the deaths of innocent Americans are a necessary price to pay for the freedom to own firearms without restrictions. By manipulating the narrative around guns and backing politicians who commit to upholding their agenda, the NRA has cost us far more than we realize. Featuring passionate pleas from President William J. Clinton, Representative Lucy McBath (D-GA) and Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT); NRA Board Member and former NRA President David Keene, and activists on all sides of the issue — X González (March for Our Lives), Igor Volsky (Guns Down America) and Rob Pincus (Save the Second) — The Price of Freedom presents a compelling case for those brave enough to take a stand against the NRA in defense of our communities and collective future.
The Price of Freedom was directed by Emmy award-winning director Judd Ehrlich, and produced by Judd Ehrlich, Aidan Tumas, and Elena Gaby of Flatbush Pictures, and Tribeca Studios.

Scene In Black Social Programming Roll-Out Will Include In-Person Events In Select Cities Throughout The Country
HBO Max Scene in Black, an audience initiative to amplify Black stories and talent, is now live on Instagram and Twitter. As part of this official launch, Scene in Black will begin to roll out new social content franchises for the platform, in addition to a lineup of in-person events that will take place across the country. The platform will kick off with Insecure Fest on October 23, to celebrate the beloved HBO series “Insecure.” Each event will consist of custom content and experiences that feature HBO Max talent and creators, provide resources for discussion and include conversations amongst Black thought leaders, innovators, entrepreneurs and influencers.
As part of this roll-out, a new I Am Scene sizzle reel presents the Scene in Black manifesto, narrated by poet Cyrus Aaron, and highlights “Insecure,” “I May Destroy You,” “Euphoria” “Lovecraft Country” and more beloved programming on HBO Max.
“We continuously strive to develop thoughtful and creative, audience-first campaigns that strategically engage Latinx, Black, Asian-American and LGBTQ+ audiences,” said Jackie Gagne, Senior Vice President, Multicultural Marketing, HBO Max and HBO. “With the launch of Scene in Black, we further that mission by curating a space to amplify and celebrate Black talent in front of and behind the camera while creating a path for the next generation of creators to share their stories.”
Social Content Franchises include:
· The Chapter That Changed You: Talent will share an insightful or meaningful film, book or TV show that has impacted their personal and/or professional careers.
· Note To My Younger Self/Creatives Who Look Like Me: Talent shares two to three things they would tell their younger self or up and coming creatives to prepare for what the industry/life will bring.
· Hot Takes: Talent gives their “hot takes” on controversial topics that are typically reserved for the group chat.
· Worst Audition/Worst Interview: Talent discusses their unsuccessful auditions or interviews and how those moments contributed to their future successes.
· Filmmaker Starter Kit: Breaking down the careers of filmmaking legends, framed as a primer or starter kit for those who don’t know, or those who want to know more.
To further celebrate the launch of Scene in Black, HBO Max will host multi-market activations in select cities throughout the country, starting with a live event in Los Angeles in late October to celebrate the fifth and final season of Insecure. Each event experience will feature food, merchandise, musical performances, and a “Past Empowers Future” panel conversation exploring how HBO Max and HBO empowered creatives to make their marks on and off screen. In light of COVID-19, each event will be taking necessary precautions to ensure a safe and joyous celebration. Dates and details for each city will be announced closer to the event.
Tastemakers from the select cities will act as the Planning Committee and hosts for the family reunions, responsible for curating food vendors, opening musical acts, and DJs. Planning committee members include:
· New York City
· Brandon ‘Jinx’ Jenkins is a veteran media multi-hyphenate. He’s a TV host, podcast host, journalist, writer, and DJ.
· Paige Shari Addison is a live event host and social media marketing strategist hailing from East Atlanta. Along with engaging masses, Paige Shari is able to intimately connect with audiences on the ground.

“When our team brought A Black Lady Sketch Show to HBO, we knew we would be in good hands,” said Robin Thede, creator of A Black Lady Sketch Show. “The multicultural marketing team has become a part of our family and helped us show up directly in the communities that matter most to us. Now with Scene in Black, fans of ABLSS have an official social hub to view exclusive content and learn more about our cast and amazing behind the scenes team. We’re thrilled about what’s to come.”
“The recent shifts that we’ve seen in the industry have opened doors for creatives like myself to share our stories and shape the way our communities are depicted both on and offscreen, said Sophia Nahli Allison, director of Eyes On The Prize: Hallowed Ground. “I am excited about what’s to come in the future and I am grateful that HBO Max will now offer this Scene in Black platform that highlights the work of the incredible creatives behind the scenes that I have the pleasure of working with.”

HBO Max Orders Unscripted Series ATLAS OF THE HEART From Dr. Brené Brown
The Eight Episode Series Is Based On Brown’s Latest Book Of The Same Name
HBO Max has given an eight-episode order to Dr. Brené Brown’s unscripted series, ATLAS OF THE HEART. The series will utilize Brown’s extensive research to explore the emotions and experiences that define what it means to be human and provides a new framework for cultivating meaningful connection. Anguish, wonder, awe, anxiety, envy, jealousy, resentment, compassion, empathy, disappointment, regret, and overwhelm are among the wide range of topics that will be examined as the series goes into production in Austin, Texas later this month.
Logline: For ATLAS OF THE HEART, researcher and five-time #1 New York Times bestselling author Dr. Brené Brown takes viewers on an interactive journey through the range of emotions and experiences that define what it means to be human. Grounded in more than two decades of research, Brown brings together a dynamic mix of powerful storytelling, pop culture references, and a range of impressive researchers to share the language, tools and framework for meaningful connection.
Sarah Aubrey (Head of Original Content, HBO Max) quote: “At HBO Max, we pride ourselves on telling stories representative of all walks of life, and those stories would mean nothing without the language of emotion and the shared experience. By bringing Dr. Brown’s extensive research to life through film, television, and pop culture, we are able to demonstrate deep connection and insight that will resonate with our viewers.”
Dr. Brené Brown quote: “The real gift of expanding our language, practicing this work, and cultivating meaningful connection is being able to go anywhere without the fear of getting lost. When fear, anxiety, and uncertainty leave us feeling adrift and untethered in our lives, our first instinct is to look out into the distance to find the nearest shore. But the shore isn’t something outside of us — the solid ground we’re seeking is within us. It’s not always easy to find, but it’s there. I believe the more confident we are about being able to navigate to that place, the more daring our adventures and the more connected we are to ourselves and each other.”
Credits: ATLAS OF THE HEART is executive produced by Brown for Weird Lucy Productions alongside Jesse Ignjatovic, Evan Prager, Barb Bialkowski and Jared Morell for Den of Thieves. Meaghan Rady will serve as executive producer and showrunner.
