HBO® Selects Finalists For Fifth Annual Asian Pacific American Visionaries Short Film Competition

Winning Films Will Premiere On HBO Max On September 27

HBO today announced the three finalists of the fifth annual Asian Pacific American Visionaries, a short film competition which showcases cinematic storytellers of Asian and Pacific Islander descent. The finalists were selected from hundreds of submissions and were judged by a distinguished panel of HBO executives, industry leaders and fellow APA filmmakers. The three winning films exemplified this year’s competition theme: “Taking the Lead.” Filmmakers Jess X. Snow (“Little Sky”), Jesse Gi (“Neh”), and Urvashi Pathania (“Unmothered”), will premiere their films during the 2021 Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, presented by Visual Communications, on Saturday, September 25. In addition to the festival premiere, HBO Max will debut the films on September 27.

APA Visionaries competition was established by HBO in 2016 to provide a platform for Asian Pacific American stories to further the dialogue about representation in Hollywood and the importance of diversity in entertainment.

“I’m very proud of this year’s contestants. The filmmakers were able to showcase authentic stories with such intimacy, and oftentimes humor, exploring complex family dynamics, and overcoming personal and generational trauma,” said Jamie Chung, APA Visionaries 2021 Ambassador. “Through these shorts we are left feeling inspired and hopeful. Congratulations to this year’s contestants and winners!”

Get a First-Look at Little Ellen From Ellen DeGeneres and Lucas the Spider

Meet the Four Adorable Cartoonito Hosts: Nito, Glob, Wedge and Itty

WarnerMedia Kids & Family revealed a first look at Cartoonito’s upcoming preschool block launching this fall on HBO Max and Cartoon Network. The newly released trailer features an original mnemonic, “Oh! Oh! Oh! Cartoonito!” created for the block and gives a sneak peek at the burgeoning Cartoonito slate that includes preschool staples Sesame Street and Thomas & Friends: All Engines Go, Mush-Mush & the Mushables and additional shows announced earlier this week that include Bing, Dylan, Odo and Pocoyo.

Families were also treated to a special look at upcoming Cartoonito shows Little Ellen and Lucas the Spider in two new clips revealed today.

Little Ellen

Produced by Warner Bros. Animation and Ellen Digital Ventures, Little Ellen is a 2D animated children’s show that explores the world through the eyes of a hilarious and unpredictable seven-year-old Ellen DeGeneres. On her adventures in her musical hometown of New Orleans, Little Ellen takes big risks and makes big mistakes, but she’s always able to laugh at herself and bounce back when things don’t go as planned.

Lucas the Spider

Lucas the Spider is a CGI-animated show from Fresh TV in association with WexWorks Media with CAKE handling international distribution and is based on a viral YouTube hit that follows the adventures of an endearing young spider as he and his friends try to navigate the big world around them.

The Cartoonito programming block will feature four fun hosts that will keep preschoolers and families laughing and entertained in between watching their favorite shows. As the colorful faces of Cartoonito, Nito, Glob, Wedge and Itty each have their own unique personalities and will star in playful interstitials that will encourage young viewers to embrace their uniqueness and interact with others with empathy, respect and fairness.

Nito

Nito is a magical box of joy bursting with imagination, surprise, and even other characters! Ever curious, Nito loves exploring the world and eagerly shares facts with others: “Oh, oh, oh! Pandas eat up to 40 pounds of bamboo a day.” They are a natural leader and everyone’s best friend.

Glob

Glob expresses themselves through shapes, not words, and physically shows their emotions. A neuro-diverse shapeshifter, they love playing pretend and becoming new things. Glob is very caring and protective of their friends–especially Itty–and is always coming to the rescue in hilarious ways!

Wedge

Wedge can be cautious and careful, but is capable of feats of great derring-do with the encouragement of friends! A triple-threat trilingual character, Wedge is super into arts and crafts, loves to help others and is the ultimate team player.

Itty

Itty is the baby of the group and is just learning to speak. Like the world’s happiest toddler, they bounce through life and radiate positivity! Communicates with giggles, goos, and the occasional upchuck if upset.

Caleb Foote Upped To Series Regular On Season Two Of The Max Original MADE FOR LOVE

Caleb Foote, previously a recurring guest star, is returning for the second season of the Max Original MADE FOR LOVE as a series regular. Foote plays “Bennett Hobbes,” the always cheerful executive assistant and confidante of “Byron Gogol” (Billy Magnussen).

Based on the novel by Alissa Nutting, MADE FOR LOVE is a cynically poignant story of love and divorce. Season one followed “Hazel Green” (Cristin Milioti), a thirty-something woman on the run after ten years in a suffocating marriage to “Byron Gogol” (Billy Magnussen), a controlling tech billionaire. After discovering that her husband implanted a monitoring device – the Made for Love chip – in her brain, allowing him to track her, watch her, and know her “emotional data,” Hazel fled to her desert hometown to take refuge with her aging widower father Herbert (Ray Romano) and his synthetic partner, Diane. In addition to Foote, Milioti, Magnussen and Romano, season one of MADE FOR LOVE starred Dan Bakkedahl, Noma Dumezweni and Augusto Aguilera.

About Caleb Foote: Foote most recently appeared as “Eddie Cleary” in ABC’s comedy series “The Kids Are Alright.” He recurred on FX’s Emmy Award(R)-winning limited series “American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace,” as well as “American Horror Story: Cult,” and has guest starred on “9-1-1,” “All Rise,” “NCIS” and “Grey’s Anatomy.” Onstage, Foote is the recipient of the San Diego Theatre Critics Circle’s 2017 Craig Noel Award for Outstanding Male Performance in a Play for his lead role in “Hand to God.” He also had a supporting role in “Zoot Suit” at the Mark Taper Forum. Foote received a BFA in Acting from the University of Michigan. Foote is represented by Kazarian, Measures, Ruskin & Associates and Hyphenate Creative Management, and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller & Gellman.

Season one of MADE FOR LOVE was executive produced by Christina Lee, Alissa Nutting, Patrick Somerville, Dean Bakopoulos, Liza Chasin and SJ Clarkson. Stephanie Laing was a Co-EP and directed six episodes, including the pilot and season finale episodes, and Alethea Jones directed two episodes. Christina Lee, season one showrunner, will be joined by Alissa Nutting to showrun season two.

MADE FOR LOVE is a production of Paramount Television Studios.
