Crackle Original Series ‘Outbreak’ Premieres December 1st

10-part limited series follows a government agency and its attempts to fight an outbreak of a viral epidemic

Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment Inc. (“the Company”) (Nasdaq: CSSE), one of the largest operators of streaming advertising-supported video-on-demand (AVOD) networks, announced today that the Crackle Original Series Outbreak will premiere on December 1. The 10-part limited series follows the interconnected stories and lives of seemingly complete strangers as their world becomes engulfed with a virus epidemic outbreak. The heart-pounding series, a French-Canadian production filmed in Montreal and Quebec, focuses on how the threat takes hold of the population, bringing out the best and the worst in people, calling forth a blend of paranoia, credulity, greed, self-sacrifice and heroism.

“An extremely timely series, Outbreak is a compelling scripted drama that eerily mirrors current events,” said Jeff Meier, head of programming, Crackle Plus. “It is the perfect series to add to our ever-expanding slate of original content that speaks to a variety of audiences.”

In Outbreak, a dangerous virus begins to spread within a group of vulnerable homeless people in Montreal. How long will it take for Anne-Marie Leclerc (Julie LeBreton), director of the Emergency Public Health Laboratory, to discover the existence of this highly contagious disease? Will she be too late to prevent the outbreak of a deadly epidemic in the wider population?

The Emergency Public Health Laboratory is responsible for dealing with viral and bacterial emergencies such as bioterrorism, epidemics, and mass poisonings. The lab is under the authority of government minister Laurent Demers (Guillaume Cyr), who doesn’t have as much faith in Anne-Marie as she deserves, but the two must now work together to defeat a ruthless, invisible adversary. They’re obliged to undertake an investigation as they seek to track the virus back to its origins. To limit the spread of the disease, they must impose sometimes unpopular measures, while doing their best to prevent a public panic. Will Laurent and Anne-Marie win their battle against this deadly virus, which doesn’t discriminate between old and young, between people of different races, or between homeless people and those who are close to government ministers and infectious disease specialists?

As one of the only AVODs continually adding original and exclusive programming that uplifts, entertains, and inspires audiences, Outbreak will join Crackle’s growing library of scripted and unscripted original content including The Jesus Rolls, PROMISELAND, Playing With Power: The Nintendo Story, Cagefighter, After the Murder of Albert Lima, Lennox Lewis: The Untold Story, The Clearing, Anything is Possible: The Serge Ibaka Story, Bucket List, and the award-winning Going From Broke.

Outbreak is distributed in North America by Screen Media, a Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment, Inc. company and the supplier of exclusive and original content to Crackle Plus.

The Crackle Plus networks are currently distributed through 50 touch points in the U.S. with announced plans to expand to over 64 touch points including Amazon FireTV, RokuTV, Apple TV, Smart TVs (Samsung, LG, Vizio), gaming consoles (PS4 and XBoxOne), Plex, iOS and Android mobile devices and on desktops at Crackle.com. Crackle is also available in approximately 500,000 hotel rooms in the Marriott Bonvoy chain.

Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment Inc. Charlie Swift has worked for his aging mob boss Stan for twenty years, skillfully operating as a prolific fixer and efficient hitman. When a rival boss moves to eliminate Stan and his entire team, he fails in wiping the team clean. Now on his own, Charlie will stop at nothing to avenge his friend, and has no plans to leave anyone alive.

“We are thrilled to be working with the immense talent involved with Fast Charlie,” said Screen Media President, David Fannon. “Pierce Brosnan, Phillip Noyce and Richard Wenk have delivered some of the most commercial, action-filled films of the past few decades. We’re certain audiences across the globe will jump at the chance to enter into this exciting world and story.”

“The first film I ever sold internationally was the first film Dan Grodnik ever produced,” said Foresight Unlimited Chairman Mark Damon. “Now, forty years, and 50 films later, it’s great to reunite with Dan on such a fabulous project. The Richard Wenk script is both fun and exciting – a killer script – that will make a killer film about an especially likable killer.”

The original screenplay is written by Richard Wenk (The Magnificent Seven, The Equalizer), inspired by the Edgar Award-nominated novel Gun Monkeys by Victor Gischler. Daniel Grodnik (Bobby) and Mitchell Welch (Chain of Command) will produce. Screen Media’s David Fannon and Seth Needle, and Foresight Unlimited’s Mark Damon and Tamara Birkemoe, and David Nagelberg will executive produce on behalf of companies. The film is scheduled to begin production in January.

Pierce Brosnan will be seen in Warner Brothers’ Black Adam, set for release next summer, as well as Netflix’s action/comedy The Out-Law. Brosnan is represented by CAA, the Special Artists Agency and Viewpoint.

Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment Expands Production into India

Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment Inc. (Nasdaq: CSSE), one of the largest operators of streaming advertising-supported video-on-demand (AVOD) networks, announced today the acquisition of a majority stake in Locomotive Global Inc.

Locomotive Global Inc., a production company based in India, is led by industry veterans Scott Anderson, former programming and acquisition strategy head for the Hallmark Channel who also was with Starz/Encore and Liberty Media Corporation, and Sunder Aaron, co-founder of QYOU Media India and former EVP for Sony Pictures Television Networks India. Locomotive Global is currently producing and developing a number of original productions including an original series in development with Amazon Prime Video, as well as Indian local language remakes of well-known series including Ray Donovan for Netflix India.

“Expanding into India has been a top priority for us in our international expansion strategy and we are excited to be entering the market with an ambitious company like Locomotive Global,” said William J. Rouhana Jr., chairman and chief executive officer for Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment. “This acquisition allows us to utilize Locomotive’s revenue, cash flow and presence in India as a base for further expansion in the region. We look forward to backing Locomotive’s expansion plans as we continue the rollout of our international strategy.”

“We are thrilled to be a part of Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment. India is arguably the largest and most accessible media market in the world right now. While we will continue to manage the business in India, as part of the Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment family, we now have the resources to capitalize on our ambitions and expand more quickly in this market,” said Scott Anderson.

“There continues to be a major opportunity to produce high-quality content for platforms and services in India such as Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, Hotstar-Disney+ and others as they now compete for original movies and series so that they can better serve a rapidly growing OTT user base. Production costs are lower in India than in most Western markets, and we can use our development and production capabilities here to meet this growing demand for quality content. The Crackle Original Documentary Recounts the Emotional Impact of a High School Basketball Coach Killed in the Line of Duty and His Lasting Legacy

Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment (Nasdaq: CSSE) announced today that the award-winning documentary, The Green Wave, will premiere exclusively on Crackle on October 21, 2021. Directed by Emmy award-winning filmmaker Guido Verweyen (After the Fire, Blood Relatives, Dance Moms, Raising Asia), The Green Wave tells the incredible true comeback story of the Summerville High School basketball team after their coach, Louis Mulkey, a dedicated firefighter, is killed in the line of duty in a deadly catastrophic fire.

Mulkey was much more to his students than a coach on the field. Mulkey was dedicated to improving the lives of his students, looking beyond racial lines to empower them to chase their dreams both on and off the field. Mulkey’s dedication helped instill core values in his team that changed the game from an after-school program to an experience that shaped their future.

“The acquisition of The Green Wave supports our mission to provide viewers with inspirational, entertaining, and inspiring content,” said Jeff Meier, Head of Programming, Crackle Plus. “We are thrilled to share this story with our viewers and to honor Louis Mulkey’s incredible legacy.”

Mulkey’s legacy continues on today in success stories including NFL star A.J. Green, and other former student athletes who continue making waves as coaches, fathers and successful businessmen. “If it wasn’t for coach Louis, I wouldn’t be where I am today,” stated Green. The Green Wave was the recipient of the “Best Documentary Award” at the Los Angeles International Film Festival.

The film’s director, Guido Verweyen said, “When I set out to make this film about a firefighter turned high school coach who impacted the lives of so many students and athletes, I had no idea how compelling and complex each of the characters’ stories would be. I can’t wait for the Crackle audience to get the first glimpse of this incredibly inspiring story.”

As one of the only AVODs continually adding original and exclusive programming that uplifts, entertains, and inspires audiences, The Green Wave will join Crackle’s robust library of sports-related content including Vince Carter: Legacy, which premiered October 1, and Promiseland, chronicling the rise of Memphis Grizzlies star and reigning NBA Rookie of the Year Ja Morant. Previously, the network premiered On Point, a docu-series that follows top-ranked college basketball players Romeo Langford, Scottie Lewis and Emmitt Williams as they compete in summer AAU season, and Anything is Possible: The Serge Ibaka Story, a documentary about the journey of LA Clippers player Serge Ibaka from the cement courts of The Republic of Congo to the NBA.

The Green Wave is distributed in North America by Screen Media, a Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment, Inc. company and the supplier of exclusive and original content to Crackle Plus.

Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment’s Screen Media Acquires Alien Invasion Holiday Horror Film ‘Black Friday’

Retail Horror Film Stars Bruce Campbell, Devon Sawa, Ivana Baquero, and Michael Jai White To Premiere This Week at Fantastic Fest

Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment, Inc. (Nasdaq: CSSE) announced today Screen Media’s acquisition of all North American rights to the alien invasion holiday horror film Black Friday ahead of its world premiere at Fantastic Fest this week. Directed by Casey Tebo (Happy Birthday!), and written by Andy Greskoviak Black Friday stars Bruce Campbell, Devon Sawa (Final Destination, Chucky), Ivana Baquero (Pan’s Labyrinth), Ryan Lee (Goosebumps), Stephen Peck and Michael Jai White. The film is produced by Warner Davis and executive produced by Greskoviak through his company MFW Manufacturing. Screen Media is planning a day-and-date release in November.

On the busiest shopping night of the year, a group of disgruntled toy store employees must defend themselves from legions of holiday shoppers when a mysterious alien parasite turns them into monstrous creatures hell-bent on a murderous rampage.

“When Andy sent me this script, it was such a blast!” said Tebo. “It reminded me of some of my favorite holiday horror movies like Gremlins or Krampus. I could see myself running to a midnight showing to see this with other horror fans, and at the same time, I could see my kids watching it at a sleepover with their friends. It’s imaginative, original, scary, fun, and the right bit of ridiculous – and that’s all the things I want to see in a movie!”

“With elevated thrills, a stellar ensemble cast and undeniable entertainment value, Black Friday is the kind of original content that Screen Media aspires to bring to our audiences. We can’t wait to unleash this clever horror film, just in time for its namesake holiday,” said Screen Media in a statement.

Seth Needle, EVP of Global Acquisitions and Co-Productions, and Logan Taylor, Manager of Global Acquisitions and Co-Productions, negotiated the deal with Jay Cohen at the Gersh Agency on behalf of the filmmakers.

Screen Media’s recent releases include Lina Roessler’s Best Sellers starring Aubrey Plaza and Michael Caine; Chase Palmer’s Naked Singularity starring John Boyega and Olivia Cooke, which won the Audience Award at the 2021 San Francisco Film Festival; and SK Dale’s critically acclaimed thriller Till Death, starring Megan Fox. Other previous releases include the Barry Pepper thriller Trigger Point; Simon West’s action disaster film Skyfire; and the Nicolas Cage hit Willy’s Wonderland.
