Veteran British cast features Anthony Head as Sir Simon de Canterville

Four-part limited series premieres on Halloween

PROVO, Utah, Sept. 1, 2021 — BYUtv, a family entertainment network available over cable, satellite and free streaming, today announced it has ordered a new four-part modern retelling of Oscar Wilde’s “The Canterville Ghost” from BBC Studios Productions, produced in the U.K. with a cast of notable British actors. The limited series will receive a Halloween premiere on Sunday, Oct. 31 at 9 p.m. ET/7 p.m. MT/6 p.m. PT. Adapted by Jude Tindall, the series marks the first British drama commission by the non-commercial, value-based television network bringing inspiring and uplifting entertainment to more than 50 million homes across America.

“‘The Canterville Ghost’ brings together the acclaimed storytelling that BBC Studios Productions is well known for with BYUtv’s unique brand of family entertainment,” said Andra Johnson Duke, head of content at BYUtv. “We are honored to partner with BBC Studios Productions to create a not-to-be-missed special event of supernatural proportions filled with humor and heart that each member of the family will enjoy.”

The accomplished cast of “The Canterville Ghost” includes Anthony Head (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer”) as Sir Simon de Canterville; James Lance (“Ted Lasso”) as Hiram Otis; Caroline Catz (“Doc Martin”) as Lucy Otis; Laurel Waghorn (“Holby City”) as Virginia Otis; Carolyn Pickles (“Broadchurch”) as Mrs. Umney; Haydn Gwynne (“The Windsors”) as Lady Deborah de Canterville; Jack Bardoe (“Belgravia”) as The Honourable Cecil Canterville; Harry Gostelow (“The Crown”) as Lord St. John Canterville; Lizzy Connolly (“Call the Midwife”) as Lady Henrietta Stilton; Fred Fergus (“Wonder Woman”) as Viscount Ralph Stilton; Jeff Rawle (“Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire”) as Bluey, the Duke of Stilton; Harry Taurasi (“The Borgias”) as Django Lovell; Cathy Tyson (“Mona Lisa”) as Masilda Lovell; and the voice of Jonty Stephens (“Life on Mars”) as Cesspitt; and introduces Joe and Tom Graves as Frank and Theo Otis, and Harriette and Charlotte Robinson as Patience and Charity Lovell.

Set in leafy 21st century rural England, “The Canterville Ghost” sees American tech billionaire Hiram Otis buy Canterville Chase, unaware that the contents include a malevolent family ghost, Sir Simon de Canterville, who has been haunting the premises for centuries. Or that his family will face the full might of the English aristocracy: united in opposition to the parvenu Americans. The contemporary reimagining of the classic Oscar Wilde comedy revolves around three families – the aristocratic Cantervilles, the Romani Lovells and the American Otises – who must come together to find redemption and heal the past.

Despite its modern setting, it’s an old world, bound by strict social convention and archaic traditions. A world of house parties and cricket matches, fox hunting and pheasant shooting. The stately homes of the aristocracy and a resident ghost…

“This is Oscar Wilde meets ‘Downton Abbey,'” said Will Trotter, executive producer for BBC Studios Productions. “It’s bursting with gothic horror, romantic comedy and pathos. We are thrilled to be working with BYUtv on such an uplifting drama for the whole family, and we hope it brings much laughter to BYUtv audiences.”

“The Canterville Ghost” is a four-part, hour-long limited series that has been commissioned by head of content Andra Johnson Duke for BYUtv, and comes from the award-winning team behind hit series like “Father Brown” and “Shakespeare & Hathaway.” It is produced by BBC Studios Productions, written by Jude Tindall (“Father Brown,” “Shakespeare & Hathaway”) and executive produced by Will Trotter (“Father Brown,” “Shakespeare & Hathaway,” “Doctors”). “The Canterville Ghost” will be brought to the screen by directors Paul Gibson and Suri Krishnamma. The script producer is Neil Irvine, and the series producer for BBC Studios Productions is Sue Howells. BBC Studios is distributing the series internationally.

In addition to “The Canterville Ghost,” BYUtv’s original programming slate includes new scripted workplace comedy with puppets “9 Years to Neptune”; “An Evening with Marie” – a symphonic concert special from beloved performer Marie Osmond; and the long-running, viral sketch comedy series “Studio C.”

“BYUtv brings families together, both around the TV and in life, and more than ever before through this year’s fall lineup of unscripted stories, competition and comedy,” said Andra Johnson Duke, head of content at BYUtv. “All the core fan favorites are back, from long-running hits ‘Studio C’ and ‘Relative Race’ to successes from recent years like ‘All-Round Champion’ and ‘The Wizard of Paws.’ We’re honored to present Marie Osmond’s stunning new concert special and to partner with BBC Studios to share our retelling of ‘The Canterville Ghost’ with audiences for the first time. And the endearing puppets of ‘9 Years to Neptune’ infuse the show with just the kind of wacky, yet sophisticated humor that both young and old will absolutely fall in love with.”

“9 Years to Neptune” is BYUtv’s new, hilarious scripted workplace comedy for the whole family. An eccentric billionaire decides to fund a mission to Neptune, but he insists on doing it on the cheap. He assembles a ragtag group of misfit puppets, including Hollywood’s top actor, a hot tub repairman, Britain’s craziest scientist and a hypochondriac doctor. This mismatched crew learns life lessons as they work together to reach the solar system’s most distant planet. Space travel has never been so much fun… or dysfunctional!

Noah Kershisnik and Andriana Manfredi star, with voices and puppeteering provided by Nate Begle, Dallin Blankenship, Tyler Campbell, Julia Jolley, Calvin Lester, Andy Manjuck, Tori Pence, Ambyr Reyes, Yolanda Stange and Cedric Williams. “9 Years to Neptune” is produced by Cosmic Pictures (“Stalking Santa,” “Making Good”) and BYUtv.

Filmed at the scenic red rocks of the Tuacahn Amphitheatre, “An Evening with Marie” celebrates multihyphenate Marie Osmond’s talent and versatility, with song selection ranging from her iconic tune “Paper Roses” to a cover of “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” to a new Broadway medley, all accompanied by the Southwest Symphony. Two special guests will join Marie onstage – her nephew David Osmond (“American Idol”) and Daniel Emmet (“America’s Got Talent”), also performing numbers of their own. The concert repertoire will feature songs from her upcoming symphonic classical and Broadway album, including “Flower Duet,” “The Prayer” (with Emmet) and “But the World Goes ‘Round.” “An Evening with Marie” is produced by Kaleidoscope Pictures (“Christmas Under the Stars,” “Studio C”) and BYUtv.

On Halloween, BYUtv will premiere “The Canterville Ghost,” produced in the U.K. by BBC Studios Productions with a cast of notable British actors. Set in leafy 21st century rural England, “The Canterville Ghost” sees American tech billionaire Hiram Otis buy Canterville Chase, unaware that the contents include a malevolent family ghost, Sir Simon de Canterville, who has been haunting the premises for centuries. The four-part contemporary reimagining of the classic Oscar Wilde comedy revolves around three families – the aristocratic Cantervilles, the Romani Lovells and the American Otises – who must come together to find redemption and heal the past.

The accomplished cast of “The Canterville Ghost” includes Anthony Head (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer”), James Lance (“Ted Lasso”), Caroline Catz (“Doc Martin”), Laurel Waghorn (“Holby City”), Carolyn Pickles (“Broadchurch”), Haydn Gwynne (“The Windsors”), Jack Bardoe (“Belgravia”), Harry Gostelow (“The Crown”), Lizzy Connolly (“Call the Midwife”), Fred Fergus (“Wonder Woman”), Jeff Rawle (“Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire”), Harry Taurasi (“The Borgias”), Cathy Tyson (“Mona Lisa”) and Jonty Stephens (“Life on Mars”), among others. “The Canterville Ghost” is produced by BBC Studios Productions (“Father Brown,” “Shakespeare & Hathaway”) for BYUtv, with BBC Studios distributing internationally.

“Overlord and the Underwoods” follows the Underwoods, whose life is turned upside down when their distant cousin, Overlord, the second most-wanted villain in the universe, seeks refuge in their home after being forced into intergalactic witness protection. After snitching out his boss, the evil Mega-Lord Supreme, Overlord is sent to live with his incredibly nice, distant cousins on Planet Earth. Over the course of the series, the evil Overlord and the very sweet Underwoods discover a thing or two about each other as they learn to treasure the value of family and the importance of true friendship, diversity and compassion.

The new sitcom stars Ari Resnick (“Ranger Rob”), Troy Feldman (“Reign”), Patrice Goodman (“The Umbrella Academy”), Darryl Hinds (“Designated Survivor”) and Kamaia Fairburn (“Holly Hobbie”). “Overlord and the Underwoods” is produced by marblemedia in association with Cloudco Entertainment, CBC, Nickelodeon International, ITV and BYUtv. It will debut on the BYUtv app in concert with the show’s fall 2021 worldwide launch.

BYUtv’s returning original programming slate this fall includes season 14 of long-running, viral sketch comedy series “Studio C” with an updated cast, including original cast member Jason Gray and new featured players Megan Rico and Naomi Winders; season eight of “Relative Race,” the first family-history based competitive reality show, which follows four teams as they meet relatives linked by DNA for the first time in a race throughout the United States; season seven of “Random Acts,” an unscripted hidden-camera reality show that highlights the altruistic nature of human beings by featuring real people who are the recipients of random acts of kindness; the fourth season of “All-Round Champion,” with outstanding young athletes competing in each other’s sports, for the first time including both summer and winter sports, a para athlete, and host Perdita Felicien mentoring on hurdles; “The Wizard of Paws” season three, with animal prosthetist Derrick Campana as he travels the country in pursuit of all kinds of animals in desperate need of his services; and the mid-season return of “Making Good” season three with host Kirby Heyborne, who loves helping people and eagerly volunteers for organizations regardless of the circumstances and his background or experience.

BYUtv’s Sunday lineup is anchored by season three of “Grace Notes,” hosted by Elaine Bradley from Neon Trees and showcasing exclusive performances and interviews with Amy Grant, Michelle T. Williams, Ben Rector, Michael W. Smith, CeCe Winans, Kirk Franklin and many others; season two of “Hello Sunday,” sharing stories about life’s little miracles from across the globe with experts in everything from ballet and mountain climbing to fashion design and space engineering; and season two of “Artful,” providing a rare, intimate glimpse into the lives of artists, the inner workings of the creative spirit and how personal faith influences them and their art.

BYUtv Presents Groundbreaking Interconnected Family Comedies ‘The Parker Andersons’ and ‘Amelia Parker’

Two new blended series showcase the same blended family from different angles

PROVO, Utah, Feb. 16, 2021 — BYUtv, a family entertainment network available over cable, satellite and free streaming, today announced at the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour the premiere of a duo of new single camera family comedies – “The Parker Andersons” and “Amelia Parker.” The two interwoven scripted series highlight events in the life of a blended multicultural, interracial family from two different perspectives. “The Parker Andersons” will premiere on Monday, Apr. 19 at 7 p.m. ET/5 p.m. MT/4 p.m. PT, followed by “Amelia Parker” at 7:30 p.m. ET/5:30 p.m. MT/4:30 p.m. PT. All aired episodes of the show are available to stream for free on the BYUtv app and at BYUtv.org.

This completely new and innovative concept will enhance traditional TV storytelling by creating two stand-alone comedy series, “The Parker Andersons” and “Amelia Parker,” each with their own storylines and episodes, while still connected by larger overarching plotlines tying the two independent shows together. “The Parker Andersons” follows the heartfelt family moments and warmly comedic antics of a newly blended family, while “Amelia Parker” centers around the quietest member of the family as she navigates the world around her. Both 10-episode series are produced by BYUtv, marblemedia and Beachwood Canyon Productions.

“It has been amazing to be part of a project that’s so unique and refreshing in the way it reinvents the way we tell stories, and BYUtv is thrilled to be part of it,” said Andra Johnson Duke, head of content at BYUtv. “‘The Parker Andersons’ and ‘Amelia Parker’ are standalone series that live in the same world and together quickly build the audience’s connection to the characters. It’s easy to invest in the hectic life of the Parker Anderson family and the love they have for each other despite their struggles, making us care about them even more.”

“The Parker Andersons” follows Tony Parker, a British widower and father of two (Nathan and Amelia), who moves to the United States, where he marries Cleo Anderson, the mother of two kids (Victoria and Charlie). All together, they quickly discover that sometimes being “blended” feels a lot like being in a blender.

“Amelia Parker” centers around the quietest member of the Parker Anderson family, a tween girl who is coming into her own. After her mother died, Amelia became selectively mute, figuring that before she participates in the world again, she’d better find her voice. In confessionals, we see that Amelia is actually an opinionated, vivacious girl, who openly explains her hopes, anxieties and fears in virtual conversations with her deceased mom.

Anthony Q. Farrell serves as showrunner and executive producer for both series. Farrell has written for NBC’s ”The Office” and Nickelodeon’s ”The Thundermans” and has developed shows for CBS Studios, Disney Channel and Cartoon Network, among others. He is also the creator of ”Secret Life of Boys,” the BAFTA-winning CBBC series in its fifth season.

“The Parker Andersons” and ”Amelia Parker” will star Arnold Pinnock as Tony Parker (“Travelers,” “Once Upon a Time”), Kate Hewlett as Cleo Anderson (“Holly Hobbie,” “Stargate: Atlantis”), Millie Davis as Amelia Parker (“Odd Squad,” “Wonder”), Agape Mngomezulu as Nathan Parker (“The Twilight Zone,” “Supernatural”), Devin Cecchetto as Victoria Anderson (“Ginny & Georgia,” “The Craft: Legacy”), Charlie Zeltzer as Charlie Anderson (“The Handmaid’s Tale,” “Anne with an E”), Sandy Jobin-Bevans as Roger Anderson (“Designated Survivor,” ”Just Like Mom and Dad”) and Akiel Julien as Nick Parker (“Utopia Falls,” “The Boys”).

In addition to “The Parker Andersons” and “Amelia Parker,” BYUtv’s original programming slate includes “All-Round Champion,” with outstanding young athletes competing in each other’s sports; the fifth and final season of “Dwight in Shining Armor,” a comedy in which the Middle Ages meets Middle America; unscripted show “The Wizard of Paws” about the creation of custom prosthetics for animals of all sizes from elephants to rabbits; and the long-running, viral sketch comedy series “Studio C.”

“What a journey it’s been, and what a joy it is to see ‘Dwight in Shining Armor’ come full circle with the final season it deserves,” said Andra Johnson Duke, head of content at BYUtv. “Brian and LeeAnne Adams, the husband-and-wife team who co-created the show, poured their heart and soul into bringing these characters to life. They created a magical setting not far removed from our own but where anything is possible. Still, the real magic is in how the characters interact with one another and how they’ve endeared themselves to the families watching who are rooting for them to succeed. The viewers won’t be disappointed by what’s in store.”

“Dwight in Shining Armor” takes place in a suburban town where Dwight, a 21st century teen, falls into an ancient, underground chamber and lands lip-to-lip with Gretta, a gothic princess who has been magically sleeping for a thousand years. Dwight’s “kiss” awakens Gretta, her court magician, Baldric, as well as scores of medieval villains, and makes Dwight her de facto champion until her hordes of enemies are defeated.

In the climactic final season, new villains join with old ones to threaten Dwight’s world in Woodside and Gretta’s Kingdom of Rogemore. Dwight and Gretta team up with old friends as they race to solve the mystery of “who is the Memory Thief?”

“We’ve experienced so many emotions in the last year as we’ve brought this story to an end,” said series co-creator Brian J. Adams. “But the strongest feeling we have now is gratitude. We’re so thankful that we got to finish our story and give it the ending we envisioned more than ten years ago.”

Sloane Morgan Siegel (Amazon Studio’s “Gortimer Gibbon’s Life on Normal Street”), Caitlin Carmichael (“The Good Doctor”), Joel McCrary (“The Princess Diaries”), Danielle Bisutti (“God of War”) and Evan Hofer (“Lethal Weapon”) star in this 50-episode series created by LeeAnne H. Adams and Brian J. Adams (Amazon Studio’s “12 Princesses”).

In addition to “Dwight in Shining Armor,” BYUtv’s original programming slate includes new interwoven scripted shows “The Parker Andersons” and “Amelia Parker” about a blended multicultural, interracial family; “Relative Race,” the family-history based competitive reality show that follows four teams as they meet relatives linked by DNA for the first time in a race throughout the United States; unscripted show “The Wizard of Paws” about the creation of custom prosthetics for animals of all sizes from elephants to rabbits; and the long-running, viral sketch comedy series “Studio C.”

“Our focus at BYUtv is to seek out and cultivate shows that truly entertain every member of the family, regardless of their age or background,” said Michael Dunn, managing director of BYUtv. “This undertaking is not a simple task, but we take it seriously, and our spring lineup is filled with this rare kind of programming. Most incredibly, each of these shows, whether scripted or unscripted, brand new or already loved, not only entertains, but also inspires. This is what makes BYUtv so special.”

BYUtv’s new crossover family comedies “The Parker Andersons” and “Amelia Parker” highlight events in the life of a blended multicultural, interracial family from two different perspectives.

BYUtv’s returning original programming slate this spring includes the fifth and final season of “Dwight in Shining Armor,” a scripted adventure comedy in which the Middle Ages meets Middle America. Coming back for season three are “All-Round Champion,” featuring ten of North America’s most decorated young athletes who compete in a variety of summer sports except their own, and “Making Good” with host Kirby Heyborne, who loves helping people and eagerly volunteers for organizations regardless of the circumstances and his background or experience. A pair of unscripted shows returns for their second seasons: “The Wizard of Paws,” with animal prosthetist Derrick Campana as he travels the country in pursuit of animals in desperate need of his services, and “Survivalists,” featuring two everyday families who embark on a three-day survival immersion course in the wild to reconnect and repair their relationships.

‘Christmas with The Tabernacle Choir’ featuring Kelli O’Hara and Richard Thomas to Air on PBS and BYUtv this December

Quintessential Americana-themed program marks 17th year on PBS; has been its No. 1 holiday program for 15 years

SALT LAKE CITY, Nov. 12, 2020 — This December, PBS and BYUtv, a nationwide family entertainment network, will air the 17th annual “Christmas with The Tabernacle Choir” holiday special featuring Tony(R) Award-winning and Emmy(R) and Grammy(R) nominee Kelli O’Hara and Emmy(R) Award-winning television, film, and stage actor Richard Thomas. A 60-minute version will premiere on PBS on Monday, Dec. 14, 2020 at 9 p.m. ET (check local listings). The full, 90-minute version will air on BYUtv on Thursday, Dec. 17 at 8 p.m. ET. The annual holiday program has been a PBS tradition since 2004 and its top viewed holiday program for 15 years.
“As a kid, I used to listen to The Tabernacle Choir on my grandparents’ record player, so I am proud and thrilled that I am able to take part in this Christmas special,” said O’Hara. “Nothing could have prepared me for this experience, of hearing the voices of the Choir filling the space behind me, of everyone coming together to be part of something greater than ourselves, and to celebrate oneness, love and hope. It reminded me of why I started singing in the first place. This is an extraordinary program for our extraordinary times, and I hope that it can serve as a balm for our weary hearts this holiday season.”

Added Thomas, “The Tabernacle Choir’s music was a part of all my childhood Christmases, so it’s just thrilling to be a part of this concert and to plug all of my love of Christmas into the experience.” He continued, “It was all one could ask for to perform with Kelli, who is one of America’s preeminent singing actresses. Whatever faith tradition you come from, beautiful music is beautiful music, and expressions of caring and humanity and of aspiration are all the same for us. This program is filled with those sentiments and can bring all kinds of people together, especially in these difficult times.”

O’Hara and Thomas join Grammy(R) and Emmy(R) Award-winner The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square along with Orchestra at Temple Square and Bells at Temple Square in an Americana-themed program that exudes the warmth and peace the season can bring. The repertoire draws from a number of American musical traditions including folk, bluegrass, Broadway and African-American spirituals. Buck’s “Christmas Day in the Morning,” an excerpt from Robert Frost’s beloved poem “Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening” and the Christmas story from Luke 2.

“We’re very honored that both Kelli and Richard joined us for this concert,” said Mack Wilberg, music director of The Tabernacle Choir. “This year’s program powerfully reflects both of their remarkable talents and is completely different from years past, with music that will be familiar to many and some that may be enjoyed by people for the first time. The end result is a beautiful event that will leave people feeling well-fed, and I’m pleased viewers will be able to enjoy it from the comforts of their homes this Christmas season.”

The 2020 broadcast of “Christmas with The Tabernacle Choir” is co-presented by GBH, the largest creator of PBS content for TV and the web, and BYUtv, the television home of The Tabernacle Choir’s weekly program “Music & the Spoken Word.” As has been done every year for the past twenty years, the special was filmed over three consecutive nights in December 2019 in front of a live combined audience of over 63,000 at the Conference Center in Salt Lake City.

In addition to the airings on PBS and BYUtv, the special is available for purchase as a DVD or CD titled “Christmas Day in the Morning.” Also available is a companion book of the same title with the text of the narration given by Richard Thomas. Original Cast Member Jason Gray Returns to BYUtv’s “Studio C”

He rejoins viral sketch comedy series in 2021

PROVO, Utah, Oct. 20, 2020 — Family entertainment network BYUtv today announced that original “Studio C” cast member Jason Gray will return to the fan-favorite sketch comedy show in fall 2021. A viral phenom with more than two billion views on YouTube and past guest stars including Emmy winner Kenan Thompson, “Studio C” derives universally loved humor from everyday life through endlessly watchable and shareable sketches that offer comic perspective on commonplace scenarios and pop culture commentary.
“With more than 2.2 billion YouTube views, ‘Studio C’ is arguably one of our most-loved legacy shows,” said Michael Dunn, managing director of BYUtv. “And Jason was one of the most versatile and formidable talents in that original cast. So to have him joining forces with our equally-talented new cast members is a major coup for sketch comedy fans. All I can say is buckle up and brace yourself for what will undoubtably be a hilarious season.”

“I’m thrilled to be returning to ‘Studio C’ again,” said Jason Gray. “Sketch comedy is part of my DNA as an actor and writer, and it will be an exciting adventure to work with mostly new faces! ‘Studio C’ has the best fan base, and I think they will really enjoy all the fun things we have cooking. I can’t wait to bring back some of my old impressions – Batman, Snape and The Emperor – while introducing some new characters I’ve been working on as well. I’m also very excited to be performing in front of live audiences again once it’s safe. Nothing beats the magic of live comedy, and (fingers crossed) we should have plenty of it!”

Jason Gray is one of the original creators of “Studio C” and played such memorable characters as the British announcer on “Top Soccer Shootout Ever with Scott Sterling” (nearly 79 million views) and the recurring role of Severus Snape. Following season 9 of “Studio C” in 2018, he joined with the other original cast members to create comedy network JK! Studios and reached the semifinals of NBC competition show “Bring the Funny.”

“We’ve loved working with Jason at JK! Studios, and we’re excited to support him in his next endeavor,” said Matt Meese of JK! Studios.

Jason Gray returns immediately behind the scenes and in the writers’ room to prepare for taping next year and will debut on-screen in fall 2021. “Studio C” is produced by BYUtv with Kaleidoscope Pictures (“Show Offs,” “Christmas Under the Stars”).

“As the ‘Studio C’ cast family continues to grow, we’re excited to be able to start inviting previous family members back to play,” said Micah Merrill, executive producer of “Studio C” at Kaleidoscope Pictures. “Keep watching for more fun surprises as the show continues to evolve to reach even more audiences to experience ‘Studio C”s unique brand of hilarious and uplifting comedy.”

In addition to “Studio C,” BYUtv’s original programming slate includes teen comedy bootcamp “Wayne Brady’s Comedy IQ,” created and hosted by the Emmy-winning star; “Dwight in Shining Armor,” a scripted adventure comedy in which the Middle Ages meets Middle America; new family survival competition “Survivalists”; and “All-Round Champion,” with outstanding young athletes competing in each other’s sports. BYUtv is available across the country via cable, satellite and multiple digital media platforms.
