BBC AMERICA’S NEW ORIGINAL SERIES, THE WATCH, ENLISTS WENDELL PIERCE AND MATT BERRY

BBC AMERICA’S NEW ORIGINAL SERIES, THE WATCH, ENLISTS WENDELL PIERCE AND MATT BERRY
High-Concept Drama is Set to Premiere Sunday, January 3rd
Paul Kaye and Ralph Ineson Confirmed to Guest Star
First-Look Clips and Teaser Trailer Released Today

New York – October 9, 2020 – During BBC AMERICA’s virtual New York Comic Con panel for its newest original series, The Watch, released today, it was announced that the series will premiere on Sunday, January 3rd at 8PM ET/PT. Additionally on the panel, it was revealed that Wendell Pierce (The Wire, Selma) and Matt Berry (What We Do in the Shadows, Year of the Rabbit) are joining the series voicing the characters of “DEATH,” a dry, sardonic Grim Reaper, and “Wayne,” a magical speaking sword, respectively.

The panel, moderated by actress and host Yvette Nicole Brown (Community, Avengers: End Game), sees stars Richard Dormer (Game of Thrones), Lara Rossi (I May Destroy You), Adam Hugill (1917), Jo Eaton-Kent (Don’t Forget the Driver) and Marama Corlett (Blood Drive), along with lead writer and executive producer Simon Allen (The Musketeers) and executive producer Richard Stokes (Broadchurch), discuss the origination of the series sharing anecdotes from filming earlier this year while providing a first look at the series via clips and a teaser trailer.

The Watch follows an unlikely group of misfits, The City Watch, who are forced to find the guts to save the world, surprising even themselves in the process. The comedic yet thrilling series pits trolls, werewolves, wizards and other improbable heroes against an evil plot to resurrect a great dragon which would lead to the destruction of life as they know it. From lead writer and executive producer Simon Allen, the modern and inclusive series is inspired by the characters created by Sir Terry Pratchett’s famous “Discworld” novels, including the captain of The City Watch Sam Vimes (Dormer), the last scion of nobility Lady Sybil Ramkin (Rossi), the naïve but heroic Carrot (Hugill), the mysterious Angua (Corlett) and the ingenious forensics expert Cheery (Eaton-Kent) together with The Watch’s own idiosyncratic depiction of Death (Pierce).

Further casting includes Paul Kaye (Game of Thrones) who plays Inigo Skimmer, a.k.a. The Duke of Stab, a member of the Assassins’ Guild whose long and distinguished career is jeopardized when he runs into The City Watch, as well as Ralph Ineson (Chernobyl) who is voicing Sergeant Detritus, a huge a troll made of stone and a member of The City Watch. An elemental exemplar of truth, loyalty and kindness, Detritus and Vimes have been close friends for many years since each saved the other from ruin.

Previously announced cast includes Sam Adewunmi (The Last Tree) as Carcer Dun; Anna Chancellor (Pennyworth) as Lord Vetinari; James Fleet (Outlander) as The Archchancellor; Ingrid Oliver (Doctor Who) as Doctor Cruces; Ruth Madeley (Years and Years) as Throat; Hakeem Kae-Kazim (Dynasty) as Captain John Keel; and, Bianca Simone Mannie (Homeland) as Wonse.

The Watch is a BBC AMERICA original series executive produced by Hilary Salmon (Luther), Ben Donald (The Mallorca Files) and Richard Stokes for BBC Studios, Rob Wilkins (Good Omens) for Narrativia, Simon Allen and Craig Viveiros (The War of the Worlds). Johann Knobel (Shameless) is series producer of The Watch, and Simon Rogers (Doctor Foster) is production designer. BBC Studios is handling distribution internationally.

BBC AMERICA RELEASES ALL-NEW PHOTOS FROM THE DOCTOR WHO HOLIDAY SPECIAL, “REVOLUTION OF THE DALEKS”

Today, during BBC AMERICA’s virtual New York Comic Con panel for Doctor Who, moderated by Salon.com’s TV Critic Melanie McFarland, panelists Jodie Whittaker (the Doctor), Mandip Gill (Yaz) and Bradley Walsh (Graham) revealed two all-new photos from the highly anticipated holiday special, “Revolution of the Daleks.” View panel here. With the season finale seeing the Doctor being locked away in a high-security alien prison, the first photo gives a glimpse to the Doctor’s incarceration. The second photo hints at Yaz, Ryan and Graham’s life back in Sheffield without the Doctor, while her whereabouts are unbeknownst to them. During the panel, it was also confirmed that BBCA’s upcoming holiday programming schedule will once again include the annual tradition of a week-long Doctor Who marathon running from Christmas Day to New Year’s Day.

The latest season was packed full of shocking twists, turns and surprises, and the upcoming holiday special will see the return of one of the Doctor’s biggest and most feared enemies – the Daleks. The Doctor is locked away in a high-security alien prison. Isolated, alone, with no hope of escape. Far away, on Earth, her best friends, Yaz, Ryan and Graham have to pick up their lives without her. But it’s not easy. Old habits die hard. Especially when they discover a disturbing plan forming. A plan which involves a Dalek. How can you fight a Dalek, without the Doctor? “Revolution of the Daleks” premieres this holiday season on BBC AMERICA.

Doctor Who is a BBC AMERICA co-production with BBC Studios. In the U.S., Doctor Who premieres exclusively on BBC AMERICA with past seasons available to stream exclusively on HBO Max.

BBC AMERICA’S TOP GEAR RACES INTO NEXT SEASON ON SUNDAY, OCTOBER 18TH

BBC AMERICA’S TOP GEAR RACES INTO NEXT SEASON ON SUNDAY, OCTOBER 18TH, THE WEEK IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING THE CURRENT SEASON’S FINALE

Get a sneak peek of one of the hosts most ambitious stunts to date – vertical wall driving – in new trailer

New York – September 23, 2020 – BBC AMERICA today announced that the upcoming season of the world’s biggest motoring entertainment show, Top Gear, will premiere on Sunday, October 18th at 8pm ET/PT, the week immediately following the current season’s finale. The new season sees hosts Paddy McGuinness, Freddie Flintoff and Chris Harris tackle a giant carnival-inspired Wall of Death driving old insurance write-offs, hurtle down a ski slope in Cyprus in €30 (≈ $36) holiday hire cars, and race around an eerily empty Alton Tower Resort in the latest electrics.

BBC AMERICA’s new trailer, featuring Labrinth’s Express Yourself, shows a glimpse of the lead up to an ill-fated Lamborghini Diablo incident with Paddy behind the wheel, as well as its aftermath on a flatbed truck. Elsewhere in the trailer, Freddie attempts to go 200mph in a 1990s Jaguar, the hosts find themselves strapped into chairs on top of their cars, and Paddy’s latest ‘build,’ a fully electric all-terrain ice cream van called Mr Nippy, gets put through its paces in sunny Blackpool. In addition, the trio teases their attempt to remain in their Volvo S60 Hybrid, Tesla Model 3 and BMW 330 Hybrid cars for 24 hours straight in Paddy’s hometown of Bolton. Oh, and The Stig drives a tank!

The new season of Top Gear halted production back in March due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but after a greenlight from the Government of the United Kingdom, production was resumed in mid-June with a new approach to finish the season. For the in-studio segments, the hosts left the confines of their regular Top Gear studio, a hangar at the show’s iconic track in Dunsfold, Surrey, filming instead outdoors on the racecourse in front of a 500-strong socially distant drive-in audience. 160 cars filled with fans got to see the trio entertaining from a big main stage flanked by video screens, as well as from a smaller satellite stage located in the middle of the drive-in crowd. View and download photos of the drive-in recordings here.

The current season of Top Gear airs Sundays at 8pm ET/PT with the upcoming season premiering on Sunday, October 18th at 8pm ET/PT.

EVEN THE CHIMPS ARE BEING HOMESCHOOLED ON BBC AMERICA’S “BABY CHIMP RESCUE”

SPOTLIGHTING THE EDUCATION OF JENNY AND JIM DESMOND’S RESCUED BABY LIBERIAN CHIMPS, BABY CHIMP RESCUE SWINGS IN ON DECEMBER 5 FOR 3 WEEKS

New York – September 21, 2020 – BBC AMERICA will air the US premiere of Baby Chimp Rescue, Saturdays starting December 5th at 8/7c as part of Wonderstruck. The three-part series narrated by Gillian Burke (Blue Planet UK) and from executive producer Jo Shinner (Planet Earth: A Celebration) follows an American couple, Jenny and Jim Desmond, as they teach their 21 rescued baby chimps how to survive on their own.

A house full of baby chimps, and a heart full of love. Husband and wife Jenny and Jim Desmond are parents to an unusual and very large family – 21 orphaned baby chimpanzees. But their home in Liberia is rapidly becoming too small for this rambunctious troop of animals. Stretched to their limits, the Desmonds are building a sanctuary in the forest so their unconventional family can live as natural a life as possible. But before they can move out, these orphans need to learn how to live like wild chimps. Welcome to baby chimp school, where lessons are taught by Jim, Jenny, a team of local caregivers and chimp expert Ben Garrod. Star pupils include Max, the cheeky future alpha male who is easily distracted from lessons. Ella, the youngest, is a very fast learner. And Lucy, the cleverest, helps teach the others what to do. The series also highlights the work the Desmonds are doing with the wildlife authorities to rescue endangered chimps and teach the public that chimps are neither pets nor food. With the wild chimp population in free-fall, they’re in a race against time to change the way people see chimpanzees – before they disappear forever.

CRIPTALES TO PREMIERE OCTOBER 1 ON BBC AMERICA

CRIPTALES TO PREMIERE OCTOBER 1 ON BBC AMERICA
SIX SHORT FILMS WRITTEN, DIRECTED AND PERFORMED BY PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES
CripTales Joins Other Groundbreaking Series In Free Streaming Collection For National Disability Employment Awareness Month

September 14, 2020 – New York, NY – BBC AMERICA announced today the October 1 world premiere date for CripTales – a collection of six short films curated by Mat Fraser (His Dark Materials, American Horror Story) – each one written, directed and performed by a person living with disabilities.

The six 15-minute monologues will premiere on Thursday, October 1 at 10pm ET/9c on BBC AMERICA and the entire collection of films will also be available to stream at the start of National Disability Employment Awareness Month across the digital platforms of the AMC Networks Entertainment group: BBC AMERICA, AMC, IFC, SundanceTV and AMC+.

Each film is a fictional monologue capturing a life-changing moment for a person with disabilities, based on factual research and lived experience and spanning the last 50 years of British history.

The monologues are written by Mat Fraser, Jackie Hagan, Jack Thorne, Genevieve Barr, Tom Wentworth, Matilda Ibini; performed by Mat Fraser, Robert Softley Gale, Ruth Madeley, Jackie Hagan, Liz Carr, Carly Houston; and directed by Ewan Marshall, Amit Sharma and Jenny Sealey.

The films cover a variety of experiences, from an actor (played by Fraser) in the present day waiting to go into an audition and dreading how it will be, to a young woman in 1968 (played by Madeley; Years and Years, BBC AMERICA’s The Watch) contemplating the future of her pregnancy.

“I’m so proud and excited to present these wonderful stories for mainstream TV audiences around the world, thanks to BBC America and BBC Studios,” said Fraser. “The authentic voices, taut direction and shining performances combine to make a series of diverse and dramatic monologues that are compelling, refreshing, and above all, entertaining.”

“CripTales brings to our screens a beautiful collection of short films, curated by the incredibly talented Mat Fraser, shining a light on stories that don’t often make it to primetime,” said Courtney Thomasma, Executive Director of BBC AMERICA. “At times hilarious and at others heart-breaking, these monologues exemplify both the diversity of experience among people living with disabilities and the thoroughly relatable dilemmas we all face in life.”

During the broadcast and online, AMC Networks will share with viewers how they can support the efforts of The American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD), one of the leading national cross-disability civil rights organization that advocates for the full recognition of rights of over 60 million Americans with disabilities.

To mark the launch of CripTales and October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month, AMC Networks will share a Visibility Collection that includes CripTales, Critics Choice Award winner Push Girls, and This Close, which has received the Ruderman Family Foundation Seal of Authentic Representation. The Visibility Collection will be available to stream free (no log-in required) across the apps and websites of BBC AMERICA, AMC, IFC and SundanceTV for the month of October. Visit www.VisibilityCollection.com for more.

CripTales is a BBC AMERICA co-production with BBC Studios’ Documentary Unit, with Debbie Christie serving as executive producer. Cara Delevingne to Front Documentary Series Exploring the Biggest Questions in Human Sexuality

Cara Delevingne to front documentary series exploring the biggest questions in human sexuality

BBC Three has commissioned Naked, a Fremantle company, to produce a major new documentary series exploring human sexuality, hosted by Cara Delevingne.

The series has been jointly commissioned by Hulu and BBC Three and is currently in production.

Planet Sex (w/t) is an epic six-part documentary series in which actress, activist, model, author and LGBTQ+ advocate Cara Delevingne explores the biggest questions in human sexuality. Why are some of us straight and some of us not? Is there even such a thing as straight? Are gender and sexuality independent or intertwined? Why do our sexual tastes vary from person to person and culture to culture? The series will explore and address key questions related to our gender, our sexual orientation, our relationships, the popularity of porn, and more.

In this deeply personal, but also universally relevant series, Delevingne plans to put her mind and body on the line, opening herself up to experiments and demonstrations in the world’s leading sex research labs, visiting communities who experience gender and sexuality very differently, and voyaging into people’s hearts and homes to share their unique stories.

Cara Delevingne says: “As someone who struggled for years to understand my sexual identity, I am so excited to be partnering with Hulu, Naked, BBC Three and Fremantle to be making a series that could change the views of so many people through honest and personal conversations. I can only imagine what having a series like this would have meant to the 14-year-old me who struggled to understand feelings that were seen as non-conventional or different. If our series helps one young person have an easier conversation with their parents, we will have achieved one of our many goals in making this series.”

Jack Bootle, BBC Head of Commissioning Science and Natural History, says: “We’re in the middle of a new sexual revolution, in which the old rules of gender and sexuality are being rewritten in ways that some find liberating and others confusing. The Salisbury Poisonings

All four episodes drop on AMC+ on Thursday, October 1; debuts on AMC early next year

The Salisbury Poisonings tells the remarkable story of how ordinary people and public services reacted to a crisis on their doorstep, displaying extraordinary heroism as their city became the focus of an unprecedented national emergency. In March 2018, the eyes of the world turned to the British city of Salisbury when it became the epicenter of what has been described as one of the biggest political events of the 21st century – but until now, the heroic acts behind the headlines have not been told. Within three days of the assassination attempt on double agent and spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia, key agencies discovered that a lethal nerve agent called Novichok was used, just half a teaspoon of which could kill 20,000 people. Within four days, hundreds of traces were found across the city, and, just when things were finally thought to be under control, a perfume bottle containing the nerve agent was discovered, throwing the investigation into renewed chaos.

The Salisbury Poisonings is executive produced by Laurence Bowen and Chris Carey for Dancing Ledge Productions, Lucy Richer for the BBC, and by the writers of the drama, Adam Patterson and Declan Lawn and series director Saul Dibb. Series producer is Karen Lewis.

Gangs of London Season 1

First three episodes drop on AMC+ on Thursday, October 1 (episodes will then roll out weekly); debuts on AMC early next year

Gangs of London’s critically acclaimed first season was a huge success in the UK as it took audiences on an immersive journey into the hidden heart of the capital. The 10-episode first season of the action-packed thriller debuts on AMC+ this fall for US audiences and has been renewed for a second season with the network on board to co-produce.

Set in the heart of one of the world’s most dynamic and multicultural cities, Gangs of London tells the story of a city being torn apart by the turbulent power struggles of the international gangs that control it and the sudden power vacuum that’s created when the head of London’s most powerful crime family is assassinated. The series stars a multi-talented ensemble cast including Joe Cole (Peaky Blinders, Pure, Black Mirror), Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù (Humans), Colm Meaney (Star Trek, Hell on Wheels, Layer Cake), Lucian Msamati (His Dark Materials, Black Earth Rising, Kiri), Michelle Fairley (Game of Thrones, Suits) Paapa Essiedu (Press, Kiri) and Pippa Bennett-Warner (MatherFatherSon, Harlots, Sick Note).

For 20 years, Finn Wallace (Meaney) was the most powerful criminal in London. Billions of pounds flowed through his organization each year. But now he’s dead – and nobody knows who ordered the hit. With rivals everywhere, it’s up to the impulsive Sean Wallace (Cole), with the help of the Dumani family headed by Ed Dumani (Msamati), to take his father’s place. If the situation wasn’t already dangerous enough, Sean’s assumption of power causes ripples in the world of international crime. Perhaps the one man who might be able to help him and be his ally is Elliot Finch (Dìrísù), who up until now, has been one of life’s losers, a lowlife chancer with a mysterious interest in the Wallace family. But as the wind of fate blows, Elliot finds himself transported to the inner workings of the largest criminal organization in London. It doesn’t end with the Wallaces though, there are shadowy higher powers at play.

Gangs of London is created by award-winning filmmaker Gareth Evans and his creative partner Matt Flannery and is produced by Pulse Films in association with SISTER, with AMC serving as co-producer. The series was executive produced by Pulse Films’ founder Thomas Benski, and Lucas Ochoa alongside Jane Featherstone, from SISTER.
