THE WOW-INDUCING SERIES ANCHORS BBC AMERICA’S SPRING WONDERSTRUCK PROGRAMMING LINEUP FEATURING AN EARTH DAY TAKEOVER AND ATTENBOROUGH’S JOURNEY, A RETROSPECTIVE ON THE MAN BEHIND THE VOICE

NEW YORK – April 15, 2021 – BBC AMERICA has set the premiere date for Meerkat Manor: Rise of the Dynasty, the new installation of the Meerkat Manor series. A BBC AMERICA co-production with Oxford Scientific Films, all-new half-hour episodes will premiere weekly starting Saturday, June 5, 2021 at 8/7c as part of BBC AMERICA’s Wonderstruck programming line-up. BBC AMERICA previously announced that BAFTA-winning actor Bill Nighy is set to return to narrate the series (his first time narrating the series’ U.S. broadcasts).

In addition, AMC+ will debut the first episode on Saturday, May 29 – one week ahead of its linear premiere. All subsequent episodes will launch on the premium streaming bundle, every Saturday, alongside their airing on BBC AMERICA.

Meerkat Manor: Rise of the Dynasty continues the compelling saga of the heartstring-tugging, dramatic tale of survival revolving around three families of meerkats who are descendants of the legendary meerkat matriarch, Flower. Neighbors and rivals who share a bloodline are forced to compete for food and resources in an environment that is undergoing a great deal of change: the Kalahari Desert in South Africa.

The series anchors BBC AMERICA’s spring nature programming, which also features April’s Earth Day Takeover, a three-day marathon of the network’s celebrated award-winning content. Throughout the season, Saturdays continue to be the mainstay for Wonderstruck premieres, highlighted by One Wild Day (Saturday, April 17 at 8/7c); Attenborough’s Journey (Saturday May 8 at 8/7c), a retrospective on the legend himself, China: Nature’s Ancient Kingdom (Saturday, May 15 at 8/7c), a deep dive into the world’s largest conservation project in China.

Full series descriptions are below:

One Wild Day – Saturday, April 17 at 8/7c – This fresh, modern landmark natural history series is a roller-coaster through a day in the wild. The series follows some of the world’s most extraordinary animals at different moments in the day as they work to survive in some of the toughest landscapes on the planet. The day changes dramatically as the clock ticks up to the silent oppressive heat of midday; a time where reptiles thrive, and gentle giants must retreat before ramping up the action to the hi-octane drama just before dusk. As dark creeps in there’s an uneasy turn, plunging into the horror movie of night in the wild; a world where eerie monsters and nimble little leapers rule supreme. It all ends back in the safety of sunrise with the start of a new day. For some animals, 24 hours is the blink of an eye – for others, it’s an entire lifetime – but for every creature there’s a moment in its day it must take advantage of to survive. One Wild Day is distributed by NBCUniversal Global Distribution on behalf of Sky Studios.
Earth Day Takeover – Thursday, April 22 starting at 6am/5c – A three-day takeover of the network’s celebrated natural history programming, including the Emmy®-winning Planet Earth and Blue Planet II, in addition to Nature’s Great Events, as well as Planet Earth’s Dynasties on Thursday, continuing on Friday with A Wild Year On Earth, Seven Worlds, One Planet, and Planet Earth.
Attenborough’s Journey – Saturday, May 8 at 8pm/7c – As Sir David Attenborough enters his 95th year, this unique film presents a remarkable portrait of the man behind the legend. Documenting his extraordinary life, it follows Attenborough’s journey from his boyhood days as a fossil hunter and his early years as a presenter, to the many innovative shows that changed the face of natural history programming by pioneering the use of technology such as 3D and 4K. This intimate special follows Attenborough’s years on the road – from the islands of the Galapagos, to the mountains of Canada, to the jungles of Borneo. Combining exclusive behind-the-scenes footage, candid on location interviews and stunning moments from his groundbreaking documentaries, this film captures an Attenborough you have never seen before. Attenborough’s Journey is distributed internationally by ITV Studios.
China: Nature’s Ancient Kingdom – Saturday, May 15 at 8/7c – The world’s largest conservation project has been created in China. Discover the breathtaking wildlife hidden inside its stunning national parks. Narrated by Oscar-nominee Vanessa Kirby, this stunning series opens with China’s mountainous terrains, where foxes, antelopes, and snow leopards thrive in harsh conditions. It then moves to dense forests that host the extraordinary snub-nosed monkeys and iconic giant pandas. Finally, on the fringes of the city, people must make space for nature and find a way to live alongside some spectacular animals. With 20% of China designated as protected land, how are the Chinese people adapting to their country’s conservation efforts? And could this landmark project inspire similar projects across the globe?

BBC AMERICA ANNOUNCES PREMIERE DATE FOR AN ALL-NEW SEASON OF TOP GEAR

BBC AMERICA ANNOUNCES PREMIERE DATE FOR AN ALL-NEW SEASON OF TOP GEAR
Fast-Paced Motor Show Returns to BBC AMERICA and AMC+ on April 25

Stunt-Filled Trailer, All-New Photos and Key Art Now Available

New York, NY – March 9, 2021 – The world’s biggest motoring show, Top Gear, returns to BBC AMERICA and AMC+ on Sunday, April 25 at 8pm ET/7c. In their fourth season at the wheel, hosts Freddie Flintoff, Chris Harris and Paddy McGuinness hit the road again in a series of challenges designed to push them and their cars to the limit. This season sees the trio tackling the thorny issue of ‘mid-life crisis’ cars, heading to the Scottish Highlands on a punishing off-road adventure, celebrating and driving some of the most iconic cars from the James Bond films, and taking a nostalgic trip down memory lane as they drive their dads old cars. Additionally, these four, all-new episodes feature reviews of the new Lamborghini Sian, the Toyota GR Yaris and the Ferrari Roma.

BBC AMERICA’s new trailer, released today, shows a glimpse of the wild ride that is in store for the trio, including a sparks-flying Titanium-shoed Freddie being dragged along a Scottish runway by The Stig in an Ariel Nomad, to moments later driving around in, well, half of a car… Moreover, it teases Top Gear teaming up with the 007 franchise to pay tribute to some of the iconic movie series’ best loved – and less well known – cars. Paddy, Freddie and Chris get to live out their boyhood fantasies in a smorgasbord of 007 automobiles, including the classic Aston Martin DB5 first seen in Goldfinger and the decapitated Renault 11 Parisienne taxi Roger Moore famously piloted in A View To A Kill.

The series is produced by BBC Studios with Clare Pizey and Alex Renton serving as executive producers.

COMEDIAN AND ACTOR JOHN BISHOP BOARDS THE TARDIS FOR SEASON 13 OF DOCTOR WHO

January 1, 2021 – NEW YORK – The Thirteenth Doctor and Yaz are set to welcome a new face to the TARDIS later this year as actor and comedian John Bishop joins the cast of Doctor Who as Dan.

As he becomes embroiled in the Doctor’s adventures, Dan will quickly learn there’s more to the Universe(s) than he could ever believe. Traveling through space and time alongside the Doctor and Yaz, he’ll face evil alien races beyond his wildest nightmares.

Speaking about joining the show, John said, “If I could tell my younger self that one day I would be asked to step on board the TARDIS, I would never have believed it. It’s an absolute dream come true to be joining Doctor Who and I couldn’t wish for better company than Jodie and Mandip.”

Chris Chibnall, Showrunner, added, “It’s time for the next chapter of Doctor Who, and it starts with a man called Dan. Oh, we’ve had to keep this one secret for a long, long time. Our conversations started with John even before the pandemic hit. The character of Dan was built for him, and it’s a joy to have him aboard the TARDIS.”

“These chimps are the cutest babies on TV this year.” – Paste Magazine

The third and final episode of Baby Chimp Rescue airs Saturday, December 19th at 8pm/7c on BBC AMERICA, as part of the weekly programming event Wonderstruck, celebrating the elegance and power of our natural world. In this week’s episode, “A New Beginning,” the team reaches a breaking point now caring for 38 rescued baby chimps, and the orphans have their first taste of life in the forest. The three-part series narrated by Gillian Burke (Blue Planet UK), from executive producer Jo Shinner (Planet Earth: A Celebration), follows an American couple, Jenny and Jim Desmond, as they teach their 21 rescued baby chimps how to survive on their own.

Husband and wife Jim and Jenny Desmond are parents to an unusual and very large family of 21 orphaned baby chimpanzees. But their home in Liberia is rapidly becoming too small for this rambunctious troop of animals. Stretched to their limits, the Desmonds are building a sanctuary in the forest so their unconventional family can live as natural a life as possible. But before they can move out, these orphans need to learn how to live like wild chimps.

Welcome to baby chimp school, where lessons are taught by Jim, Jenny, a team of local caregivers and chimp expert Ben Garrod. Star pupils include Max, the cheeky future alpha male who is easily distracted from lessons. Ella, the youngest, is a very fast learner. And Lucy, the cleverest, helps teach the others what to do. The series also highlights the work the Desmonds are doing with the wildlife authorities to rescue endangered chimps and teach the public that chimps are neither pets nor food. With the wild chimp population in free-fall, they’re in a race against time to change the way people see chimpanzees – before they disappear forever.

THE WATCH RELEASES NEW TRAILER AND SERIES KEY ART

BBC AMERICA’S New Original Series Premieres with Two Back-to-Back Episodes on Sunday, January 3

AMC+ to Debut the Series’ First Episode, Early, Starting Thursday, December 31

December 10, 2020 – NEW YORK – BBC AMERICA’S newest original series The Watch has released a new full-length trailer and series key art prior to its two-episode premiere on Sunday, January 3, 2021 at 8pm ET/PT. In addition, AMC+, the company’s new premium streaming bundle, will exclusively premiere the first episode of The Watch on Thursday, December 31, with additional episodes being added weekly timed their linear premiere on BBC AMERICA.

The Watch follows an unlikely group of misfits, The City Watch, who are forced to find the guts to save the world, surprising even themselves in the process. The comedic yet thrilling series pits trolls, werewolves, wizards and other improbable heroes against an evil plot to resurrect a great dragon which would lead to the destruction of life as they know it. From lead writer and executive producer Simon Allen (The Musketeers), the modern and inclusive series is inspired by the characters created by Sir Terry Pratchett’s famous “Discworld” novels, including the captain of The City Watch Sam Vimes (Richard Dormer, Game of Thrones), the last scion of nobility Lady Sybil Ramkin (Lara Rossi, I May Destroy You), the naïve but heroic Carrot (Adam Hugill, 1917), the mysterious Angua (Marama Corlett, Blood Drive) and the ingenious forensics expert Cheery (Jo Eaton-Kent, Don’t Forget the Driver) together with The Watch’s own idiosyncratic depiction of Death (Wendell Pierce, The Wire).

The series also stars Samuel Adewunmi (The Last Tree) as Carcer Dun, a figure from Vimes’ past; Matt Berry (What We Do in the Shadows) who is voicing Wayne, a talking sword; Anna Chancellor (Pennyworth) as Lord Vetinari; and Bianca Simone Mannie (Homeland) as Wonse. Also appearing are James Fleet (Outlander) as The Archchancellor; Ralph Ineson (Chernobyl), who is voicing Sergeant Detritus; Hakeem Kae-Kazim (Dynasty) as Captain John Keel; Paul Kaye (Game of Thrones) as Inigo Skimmer, a.k.a. The Duke of Stab; Ruth Madeley (Years and Years) as Throat; and Ingrid Oliver (Doctor Who) as Doctor Cruces.

The Watch is a BBC AMERICA original series executive produced by Hilary Salmon (Luther), Ben Donald (The Mallorca Files) and Richard Stokes for BBC Studios, Rob Wilkins (Good Omens) for Narrativia, Simon Allen and Craig Viveiros (The War of the Worlds). Johann Knobel (Shameless) is series producer of The Watch, and Simon Rogers (Doctor Foster) is production designer. BBC Studios is handling distribution internationally.
