With this mission in mind, the Irwins continue to take up the mantle during the global pandemic as the new season opens with Terri delivering the much-anticipated news that Australia Zoo will finally reopen after being closed for 78 days due to COVID-19; Bindi and the team at the wildlife hospital find themselves in a desperate race to save a dozen corellas; and Robert witnesses the incredible birth of three tiger cubs.

Prior to the challenges of the pandemic, Australia faced devastating brushfires that wreaked havoc on the country’s landscape and wildlife population. The Irwins efforts to help as many animals as possible are the focus of a special episode. This season will also follow personal family milestones as newlyweds Bindi and Chandler prepare to welcome their own little Wildlife Warrior to the world, and Robert learns how to drive with the help of Terri and Bindi in his dad’s iconic old ute.

Be sure to be on the lookout for TEAM RUFF who is looking to reclaim their title after last year’s loss – they’re coming back with a vengeance! Gear up because it’s officially the most wonderful time of the year for the biggest game of the year – PUPPY BOWL XVII!

PUPPY BOWL celebrates adoptable pups in all their cuteness and showcases the incredible shelters and rescues, as well as their staffers, who dedicate their lives to helping animals find their loving homes. In years past, PUPPY BOWL is 16 for 16 with the adoption rate at 100% as all puppies and kittens featured in PUPPY BOWL to date have found their forever homes with loving families. And even though this past year has been different from year’s past, one thing is for certain – there will be a PUPPY BOWL – and discovery+ and Animal Planet continue this annual tradition to highlight these special puppy players and kittens so that they can finally find the place they are meant to call ‘home.’

This year, 22 shelters and rescues from nine Northeastern States are enlisted to bring 70 incredible adoptable puppy players out for PUPPY BOWL to sport their TEAM RUFF ‘Tail Mary Tangerine’ and TEAM FLUFF ‘Bark Blue’ bandana colors. What genetic traits are these pups bringing to the game? With the Wisdom Panel™ dog DNA test, we’ll find out what’s beyond those big puppy dog eyes and how each dog’s breed mix might give them an advantage on the field. We’ll see their skills playout in the brand-new GEICO Stadium, where these adoptable players have even more room to rumble and fumble! Fan-favorite elements, including slow motion replays, nose-to-nose action from the famous water bowl cam, and aerial shots of the field from the brand-new TEMPTATIONS™ Sky Box are all back this year, along with epic drone shots of puppy players across the arena that bring audiences as close as possible to all the game-play action. THE HOME DEPOT goal post nets serve as the backdrop to every touchdown and field goal as audiences have a front row seat view through lens of the cameras in the CHEWY end zone pylons.

Joining this year as PUPPY BOWL XVII announcers are ESPN’s Monday Night Football play- by- play announcer Steve Levy and SportsCenter host Sage Steele who will be providing puppy analysis throughout the game! The PUPPY BOWL XVII Pre-Game Show begins at 1PM ET/ 10AM PT where long-time PUPPY BOWL sports correspondents Rodt Weiler, James Hound and Sheena Inu, and field reports Brittany Spaniel and Herman Shepard pump up the crowd with pup insights on the furry matchups before the big game. Sponsored by [ yellow tail ]® wine, the Pre-Game Show will also offer ideas on how to create a PUPPY BOWL “tail”gate party for the perfect viewing experience. The game opens with a special performance of the National Anthem by singing-group and internet sensation, Boys World, before kicking off with the pups of the PEDIGREE® Starting Lineup, who are giving it their all to compete for the one and only BISSELL® MVP (Most Valuable Puppy) award by scoring the most touchdowns. Who will take home the title this year to join the greats of puppies past in the Puppy Bowl MVP Hall of Fame? Tune in to find out this and which lucky pup will also take home the coveted SUBARU OF AMERICA, INC. Underdog Award!

Joining the game for the 10th year in a row is America’s favorite “Rufferee,” Dan Schachner, who, after a decade, is ready to call the puppy penalties, ruffs & tumbles, and pawsome touchdowns for a game unlike any other. Award-winning animal advocate and television correspondent Jill Rappaport also returns to introduce the SUBARU OF AMERICA, INC. Pup Close and Personal segments that shine a light on some of these adorable athletes and other adoptable puppies across the country, in addition to the special Senior Spotlight stories which showcase that age is just a number with senior dogs who are ultimately puppies at heart.

– New season moves to 2-hour episodes every Saturday at 9PM ET/PT –

Tia Torres has dedicated her life to New Orleans-based Villalobos Rescue Center, the largest Pit Bull rescue center in the U.S. where she and her family work tirelessly to provide Pit Bulls another chance in life while also offering a fresh start to parolees. Now, after 30 plus years of experiencing the high and lows of animal rescue and breaking down stereotypes of both pit bulls and individuals who have been released from the prison system, Tia her family take a special look back at the extraordinary milestones they have accomplished with a special 200th episode and season premiere of PIT BULLS & PAROLEES. The 2-hour premiere airs Saturday, January 2, 2021 at 9pm ET/PT, with 2-hour episodes airing every Saturday following the premiere featuring even more

incredible rescue stories in this supersized season.

In the season premiere and special 200th episode, Tia’s children, grandchildren and parolees gather to recall their favorite stories across 200 episodes filled with heartbreak, joy and the memorable rescues that have shaped their lives. We’ll see the early days from season one, when Mariah was still competing in beauty pageants, and the very first dog Tia rescued on the series – a senior pit bull named Walter. Tia and her family also reminisce about the twins meeting Lizzy and M2, the adjustment to living in Louisiana, and of course the most memorable, surprising and heartwarming adoptions from over the years.

This season, we’ll see how Villalobos has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and how Tia and her family have found creative ways to find dogs forever homes – while also giving back to the New Orleans community, in spite of the shutdown. We’ll also witness Tia and Mariah temporarily close their beloved restaurant and boutique amidst the global shutdown, and although a challenging decision, the pair looks ahead to a new beginning to reinvent both businesses and keeps their utmost focus on their rescue efforts.

Throughout the season, audiences will also experience more incredible rescue stories than ever before. We’ll see Tia as she deals with one of her most difficult rescue situations ever, where over 50-hybrid wolf-dogs are left to fend for themselves on a Texas property. ANIMAL PLANET PREMIERES THREE-PART TELEVISION EVENT “WALKING WITH ELEPHANTS” ON DEC. 15

Each year, thousands of elephants make an incredible journey to the Okavango Delta in Botswana to feed on its lush vegetation, in one of the biggest natural events on the entire planet. WALKING WITH ELEPHANTS follows Levison Wood, a passionate explorer and conservationist, as he is led by these magnificent animals on their annual epic migration across Botswana; a journey fraught with risks and dangers as elephants are coming under more threats than ever before. WALKING WITH ELEPHANTS premieres as a three-hour television event Tuesday, Dec. 15 beginning at 8 PM ET/PT.

WALKING WITH ELEPHANTS gives a deeper understanding of the majestic elephants of Botswana, as Wood follows the migration route from the salt pans of the Kalahari Desert where the journey begins to the nutrient rich lands of the Okavango Delta. Wood and local safari guide Kane Motswana, a San bushman who grew up in the wilds, gives the Animal Planet audience unmatched access to the dangers these resilient animals must overcome – poachers, predatory wildlife and dehydration – to arrive at their destination. But this up-close and first ever on the ground look at this elephant migration doesn’t come without risks; Wood has his own terrifying close calls with wildlife that includes lions, hippos, crocodiles and even the elephants themselves.

Wood, known for his earlier work on “Walking the Nile” and “Walking the Americas”, travels more than 650 miles by foot, as he follows the elephants on their epic migratory route to gain all-new insight into this still mysterious journey – one that the elephants have done for thousands of years, which no person has done on foot. Until now.

Audiences can join the conversation on social media by using #WalkingwithElephants and following Animal Planet on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for the latest updates.

Published earlier this month, Wood’s book, The Last Giants: The Rise and Fall of the African Elephant (Grove Atlantic in the U.S.) dives deep into his study of African elephants. Weaving natural science, history, and firsthand accounts, Wood traces the journey of the elephant throughout time and across some of Africa’s most glorious landscapes. African elephants face very troubling realities; droughts and poaching have decimated the population. However, Botswana remains a haven, home to the world’s largest elephant population. In The Last Giants, Wood documents his journey from WALKING WITH ELEPHANTS as he does all he can to raise awareness and the need to protect African elephants.

WALKING WITH ELEPHANTS is produced for Animal Planet by October Films where Managing Director Adam Bullmore serves as executive producer with Alexis Girardet as producer. For Animal Planet, Keith Hoffman is executive producer with Sarah Russell as supervising producer.

Paired with never-before-seen footage of Joe filmed for Animal Planet’s Wolves and Warriors in 2018, audiences will witness the stories of animals who were caught in the crossfire of Joe Exotic’s big cat breeding business, and the heartwarming stories of those that found new homes after the G.W. Zoo. SURVIVING JOE EXOTIC premieres on Animal Planet Saturday, July 25 at 10PM ET/PT.

In 2018, Animal Planet’s Wolves and Warriors film crew was given access to the G.W. Zoo and an inside look at Joe Exotic’s operations; from his stage show, the interactive tour, as well as never-before-seen interview footage of Joe. SURVIVING JOE EXOTIC features this exclusive interview footage of Joe from 2018 paired with all-new firsthand revelations from staff who worked side-by-side with Joe, including former employee Gaylynn Eastwood and former manager Saff Saffery. Both reveal new details about Joe’s breeding business, his behind-the-scenes treatment of the animals at the G.W. Zoo, and his dangerous dealings of trading in exotic animals.

Animal Planet audiences will also follow the touching and inspiring journeys of the animals who survived from under the direct care of Joe Exotic. We’ll meet Kryxis and Kadira, two visually impaired tiger littermates whose vision was restored after their rescue from the G.W. Zoo through surgery at the Exotic Feline Rescue Center in Indiana; and Chobe and Kariba, two lions found traumatized by the pain of inbreeding and spending their lifetimes in a small enclosure, who are relocated to Wildcat Ridge Sanctuary in Oregon where they can step on cool grass. We’ll follow these stories of hope and learn more about what’s next for the innocent animals who were caught in the endless cycle of neglect and mistreatment that exists in the world of big cat and exotics trade.
