AMC’s 11 Weeks of Reveals until Season 11 of The Walking Dead

AMC’s 11 Weeks of Reveals until Season 11 of The Walking Dead
As part of AMC’s “11 Weeks of Reveals until Season 11” of The Walking Dead, which returns Sunday, August 22 at 9pm ET/8pm CT, AMC revealed today new images and details about what’s ahead in Season 11 for characters Maggie (Lauren Cohan), Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), Rosita (Christian Serratos), Gabriel (Seth Gilliam), Aaron (Ross Marquand), Alden (Callan McAuliffe), Magna (Nadia Hilker) and Lydia (Cassady McClincy).

Character images (download here) and descriptions:

MAGGIE I Lauren Cohan

While Maggie has blocked out the psychological horror of things seen and done in order to persevere, she is even more determined to fight for a future. A future for her son. But with the constant presence of Negan getting under her skin, does Maggie have as much control as she believes?

NEGAN I Jeffrey Dean Morgan

Negan secured a hard-earned place within the community, which Maggie threatens. He does not like her holding his fate. But this is about survival, and Negan knows how to survive.

ROSITA I Christian Serratos

Rosita is fully adept at raising her daughter and rising to the demands of any mission. She is an unyielding soldier and mother who remains calm under pressure. As a critical leader at Alexandria, she weighs what is the best course of action against all odds and differing opinions.

GABRIEL I Seth Gilliam

Rather than speak with God, Gabriel speaks in hard truths. He may be in a dark place, but it is allowing him to see clearly. He is stable and able to fight for the group in any capacity. If God is reaching out to Gabriel, He will have to wait.

AARON I Ross Marquand

Suffering from trauma inflicted on the road, safety is of the utmost importance for Aaron. It’s personal. It’s his daughter. It’s the community he helped build. Usually driven by compassion, Aaron questions if there is humanity left in the world. Is Gabriel right? Are evil people the rule and no longer the exception?

ALDEN I Callan McAuliffe

Alden is a man of great loyalty and little tolerance. He has always looked at his surroundings and decided his own truth. With Hilltop burned down and Alexandria in shambles, his senses and observations are on higher alert.

MAGNA I Nadia Hilker

Magna came out of the cave with a different perspective: Life is too short. With her family dwindling, she protects from near and afar. She will not engage in the meaningless, but rest assured, she will take a stand on big important issues.

LYDIA I Cassady McClincy

Lydia is a trusted soldier in the community. Confident, she adds her opinions, even if it means clashing with others. She knows not to let others speak for her ever again. That is what it means to truly be a part of a family, and she is family.

Additionally, as part of TWDU.com’s “11 Weeks of TWD” where each week leading up to the Season 11 premiere on August 22, a custom piece of artwork will be shared that looks back at significant moments from each season of the show’s decade-long run. The sixth piece of custom artwork is a watercolor painting from Zelda Devon, and can be viewed here.

AMC will drop new reveals – photos, trailers and more – every Thursday counting down to the Season 11 premiere of The Walking Dead on Sunday, August 22 at 9pm ET/8pm CT.

The gorgeous and gripping new docuseries Eden: Untamed Planet premieres Saturday, July 24 at 8pm ET/7c on BBC AMERICA and AMC, and available on AMC+ same day. Narrated by BAFTA Award-winning actress Helena Bonham Carter (The Crown, The King’s Speech), Eden: Untamed Planet invites viewers to travel to the far corners of the planet and discover the secrets of Earth’s few remaining untouched lands, all flourishing with rich biodiversity. Isolated from the rest of the world, life here exists as nature truly intended.

While the remoteness of these Eden’s has protected them from the most damaging effects of human interference, the series will also reflect on the survival of these rare, precious and unique environments amid the perils of the modern world.

Delicately balanced, species-rich, unique ecosystems – this series embarks on a breath-taking journey to Earth’s last Edens.

Episode One – “Borneo: Sacred Forest” – Premieres Saturday, July 24 at 8pm ET/9c on BBCA, AMC and AMC+

Borneo is the richest rainforest island of all; home to 60,000 species of plants and animals. 6,000 of them are unique – and more are discovered almost daily. But this ‘paradise’ is an illusion; the lush forest is effectively growing on a desert, the soil shallow and nutrient poor, leeched by eons of incessant rain. Beneath mist-shrouded mountains and dark jungle canopy, this mysterious world is bursting with life.

AMC NETWORKS GREENLIGHTS DARK WINDS AS A NEW SERIES FOR AMC+ AND AMC

AMC NETWORKS GREENLIGHTS DARK WINDS AS A NEW SERIES FOR AMC+ AND AMC
Western Noir Thriller from Graham Roland, Produced by AMC Studios, Follows Two Navajo Tribal Police Officers in 1971 on the Hunt for the Perpetrators of Multiple, Yet Seemingly Disconnected Crimes
NEW YORK, NY, July 9, 2021 – AMC Networks today announced that it has greenlit a new AMC Studios series called Dark Winds for AMC+ and AMC. Created and executive produced by Graham Roland (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, The Returned, Almost Human, Fringe), the series stars Zahn McClarnon (The Son, Westworld, Fargo), who is also an executive producer, and Kiowa Gordon (The Red Road, Roswell, New Mexico). Vince Calandra (Castle Rock, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, Sharp Objects) is showrunner and also an executive producer. Chris Eyre will direct the pilot and executive produce. Executive producers include George R.R. Martin, Robert Redford, Tina Elmo and Vince Gerardis.

Based on the iconic Leaphorn & Chee book series by Tony Hillerman, Dark Winds is a psychological thriller that follows two Navajo police officers in the 1970s Southwest, as their search for clues in a grisly double murder case forces them to challenge their own spiritual beliefs and come to terms with the trauma of their pasts. Season one will include six episodes and is expected to premiere on AMC+ and AMC in 2022.

“We’re thrilled by the prospect of authentically telling this story with a group of remarkably talented individuals,” said Dan McDermott, president of original programming for AMC Networks and AMC Studios. “This is a rich and deeply unsettling psychological thriller set in a world we know viewers will appreciate experiencing for themselves. The series order is the product of several months in a writers’ room staffed entirely by Native American writers, and it is a series that will be brought to life by those storytellers, with a cast led by Zahn McClarnon and featuring Native American actors, filmed largely in and around Native American lands, with the full support and blessing of The Navajo Nation. We are so excited about telling this captivating and entertaining story while rendering this vibrant, rich, wonderful culture and community on AMC+ and AMC.”

Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez said:

“We are excited to welcome Chris Eyre, AMC Studios, and the industry’s top executives for the production of Dark Winds, part of which will be filmed on the Navajo Nation. I also welcome my friend, Robert Redford, back to our Nation once again. This week, the Navajo Nation lifted more COVID-19 restrictions to welcome visitors and tourists back to Diné Bikéyah. We look forward to welcoming the film crew and we hope this will serve to draw more interest from production companies and draw more tourists to boost our economy and contribute to the ‘Buy Navajo, Buy Local’ initiative. Thank you to everyone involved in this great venture with the Great Navajo Nation!”

Robert Redford said:

“I read my first Tony Hillerman novel in 1986 while filming in New Mexico and was immediately hooked. Hillerman is a master storyteller, his writing is full of mystery and suspense, set amidst a background that blends traditional oral stories of Native American culture and landscape. I am happy to partner with George R.R. Martin and AMC on this project, and am especially grateful for the collaboration with President Nez and The Navajo Nation.”

George R.R. Martin said:

“Tony Hillerman was one of the greats, as every mystery reader knows. Down here in the Southwest, Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee are as iconic as Sherlock Holmes, Hercule Poirot, Philip Marlowe, and Travis McGee. When my friends Robert Redford and Chris Eyre asked me to help bring Leaphorn and Chee back to television, I could not agree fast enough. We have great source material in Tony’s novel ‘Listening Woman,’ a great pilot script from Graham Roland, a great director in Chris… and what a pair of leads, with Zahn McClarnon as Leaphorn and Kiowa Gordon as Chee! Our plan is to shoot in New Mexico, in and around Santa Fe and on the Navajo reservation, and we are bringing in as many Navajo and other Native Americans as possible, as writers, directors, cast, and crew, to capture all the magic and mystery and wonder of the Land of Enchantment. Thanks to AMC for making it possible. Tony Hillerman wrote a lot of amazing books, and it is our dream to adapt as many of them as we can.”

Graham Roland said:

“As a Native American and a writer, the opportunity to work with iconic storytellers like Robert Redford and George R.R. Martin to tell a story in this world, with Native American leads, and do it at AMC, home to some of the most acclaimed dramas of all time, is a dream come true.”

Zahn McClarnon said:

“I am honored to be asked to star as the lead in this innovative series for AMC and to Executive produce. To have the support and to be a part of a team which is led by two iconic visionaries as George R.R. Martin and Robert Redford is something to which I’ve always aspired. I believe as Indigenous people we are in a new era of progress in TV and film representation.”

Chris Eyre said:

“Over the past 25 years, it has been my goal to celebrate the telling of Native American themed stories from a Native American perspective with characters we can all relate too. With this television series and the support of AMC, the Great Navajo Nation and George and Bob, we are creating opportunities behind and in front of the camera while making great entertainment in the beloved American Southwest.”
