“Accused: Guilty or Innocent?” follows the dramatic inside stories – as they unfold – of 8 people facing trial for serious crimes they are alleged to have committed. Each claims to be not guilty or that their actions were justifiable, and put their fate into the hands of a jury. Season two of the acclaimed true crime series offers an extraordinary account of what happens when someone is formally charged with a crime and sent to trial – all solely from the perspective of the accused, their legal team and family members. Each episode follows the accused person’s journey through the planning of their legal defense, the trial and, ultimately, awaiting the verdict. As evidence mounts and the trial approaches, these riveting and emotional stories provide an unprecedented look at what happens when your freedom is on the line. Season one of “Accused: Guilty or Innocent?” averaged 1.2M Total Viewers1 and reached a total of 16M Total Viewers2 over the course of its run.

On Thursday, August 12 at 9pm ET/PT, A&E will air a special 2-hour episode of “Accused: Guilty or Innocent” which picks up on the powerful and poignant stories of the accused who were featured in season one. How did life change for the men and women who face the judgement of a jury?

“Kids Behind Bars: Life or Parole” is an original documentary series that tells the individual stories of previously convicted child offenders sentenced to mandatory life terms without parole who are now seeking resentencing, following a United States Supreme Court ruling. While some may be resentenced to life, others could be immediately released or given a new sentence that makes them eligible for parole. Season 2 chronicles the horrific crimes and emotional impact on family and friends as they grapple with the question of whether these convicted offenders could be released back into their communities. Each episode will include exclusive commentary from the convicted offenders directly from prison and family and friends of the victim, as well as leading psychologists, law enforcement, and reporters closest to each case as they provide their own unique perspective on the Supreme Court ruling and how it is impacting each individual case.

“Kids Behind Bars: Life or Parole” averaged 747,000 Total Viewers in its freshman season3 and reached a total of 21M Total Viewers during its freshman run4.

Over six hours, “Invisible Monsters: Serial Killers in America” weaves the stories of five infamous serial killers – Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy, Jeffrey Dahmer, The Green River Killer and BTK – together into a single narrative exploring the perfect storm of what was happening in culture, communications, law enforcement, media, forensics, and technology that allowed them to proliferate and evade capture. Names that still strike fear into the hearts of many, these seemingly normal men developed disturbingly intimate and hands-on approaches to murder that were at odds with their soft-spoken public existence. Most of our public understanding of the modern serial killer comes from the 20 years that all five men were active. We still struggle to reconcile the uncomfortable dichotomy of monsters hiding in plain sight. The stories of these killers and their victims will be told by those closest to them, including exclusive interviews with survivors, investigators, forensic psychologists, prosecutors, and victims’ family members. In each 30-minute episode, “I Survived a Serial Killer” documents the harrowing, heroic stories of one or more survivors of the same serial killers. Told from the survivors’ point of view, the series highlights the strength and perseverance of regular people encountering and overcoming pure evil. Interviews with those closest to the cases will round out the stories of these unimaginable crimes. Over the 12-episode series, viewers will hear from survivors of killers including Andrew Urdiales, Richard Beasley (AKA The Craigslist Killer), Angel Resendiz (AKA The Railway Killer) and David Parker Ray (AKA The Toy Box Killer.)

In each one-hour episode, “America’s Top Dog” features furry friends alongside their handlers facing off on a massive canine obstacle course designed to test their speed, agility, teamwork, and trust as they navigate a series of challenges over two rounds of competition. Award-winning veteran studio and sports broadcaster Curt Menefee (“FOX NFL Sunday,” “The OT”) and actor and comedian David Koechner (“Anchorman,” “The Office”) serve as hosts and break down the action, while sideline reporter Rachel Bonnetta (FOX Sports, “FOX Bet Live”) catches up with the teams down on the course.

Season two introduces a new format with head-to-head match ups, pitting a pup against another competitor in their class across working dogs, police K9s and “underdogs,” for an epic battle to prove who is best. The winners of each of the three classes face-off head-to-head to determine who is that week’s Top Dog. Each week, the winning team will receive a $10,000 cash prize as well as an additional $5,000 to donate to the animal charity of their choice. In the final week of competition, the winning teams return for the ultimate face off for the title of “America’s Top Dog” and an additional $25,000. The competition continues across season three with even more breeds, high-stakes and new rules.

Also hosted by Curt Menefee, “An Animal Saved My Life” showcases amazing acts of heroism from different kinds of animal heroes. Featuring stories ripped from the headlines, viral videos, surveillance footage and interviews with people who have been saved by animal heroes, the series highlights scares and saves that range from heartwarming to adrenaline pumping. Pet owners overwhelmingly think of their cats and dogs as family members who provide emotional support and love, but sometimes animals risk it all to save a human life.

As part of A+E Networks’ efforts to amplify the voices of those making changes in their communities for the greater good, three Voices Magnified short form pieces have been commissioned, focusing on individuals in the AAPI community. Voices Magnified gives a national spotlight to timely and important conversations on equality and social reform which are occurring across America today. These short form pieces will begin airing in April and run into May in alignment with Asian Pacific Heritage Month to recognize the contributions and influence of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders to the history, culture and achievements in the United States.

Mitchell Maki/Going for Broke

After the attack on Pearl Harbor, President Franklin Roosevelt signed an Executive Order relocating over 100,000 Japanese Americans to concentration camps, imprisoning them behind barbed wire. Despite this, some 1,100 American-born Japanese men volunteered to fight for the U.S. The 442nd Regiment Combat Team – the most decorated military unit in American history consisting of mainly second-generation Japanese Americans. Mitchell Maki and the Go For Broke National Education Center educates the public on the valor of Japanese American veterans of World War II and their contributions to U.S. history.

Anh Vu Sawyer

In 1975, when she was an 18-year-old college student in Vietnam, Anh and her family were part of the historic airlift from the American Embassy rooftop, a few hours after the fall of Saigon. Now, Anh is the Executive Director of the Southeast Asian Coalition of Central Massachusetts. Her mission at SEACMA is to provide assistance to Southeast Asian refugees, immigrants and low-income families so that they can thrive and contribute, while also helping to preserve their cultural heritage in their new home of Massachusetts. She has a lifetime of stories of honoring and preserving not only her family’s Vietnamese heritage but many others and from many racial and ethnic backgrounds.

Tessa Xuan

Tessa is the Chair of OPAWL (Ohio Progressive Asian Women’s Leadership). Concerned with the rise in hate incidents targeting Asian Americans across Ohio, Tessa led a movement to demand action from their elected officials. They sent the letter to the governor and public officials throughout the state of Ohio asking that they speak out against hate. Their advocacy and message worked. Since sharing the letter legislators introduced two new bills in the Ohio State House focused on combating anti-Asian racism and establishing an Ohio AAPI Affairs Commission. Tessa also believes that crucial to combating anti-Asian resentment and violence is centering joy. So, Tessa and OPAWL launched the #IWillEatWithYou campaign to encourage community care while showing solidarity with everyone impacted by anti-Asian racism during the pandemic.

Additional short form focused on the Asian American community will run on air or online, centering on individual people who are finding solutions to social justice issues, working to bring communities together, confronting difficult challenges and inspiring change. Some examples include:

Families That Fed America: The Nguyen Family

Chef Andrea Nguyen tells the story of her Vietnamese-American family that fled the Vietnam War and came to America, with only her mother’s little orange notebook filled with recipes – a family treasure that would become emblematic of their past, their journey to America, and their life as Americans.

The Spirit That Built America: Wong Tsu

Without Wong Tsu, Boeing would not be the success it is today. At the age of 12, he was picked to be in the Chinese naval academy and at 16 he was sent to England to study naval engineering. From there he graduated from MIT in 1916 with a degree in aeronautical engineering. That same year Boeing hired him as their first trained aeronautical engineer. Tsu played an integral role in designing Boeing’s first successful product, the Boeing Model C. This plane brought immediate financial success to Boeing and executives claim “the company might not have survived the early years to become the dominant world aircraft manufacturer” without Tsu’s efforts.

The star actress, rapper and comedian found her way thanks to her grandmother and the New York City restaurant her family ran for decades.

Biography: Ken Jeong

Back in the 1990s, Ken Jeong was a physician who dabbled in comedy. After years of open mic nights, he won a stand-up competition. Even though comedy became his life, his medical training still comes in handy helping cast and crew on film sets.

Biography You Need To Know: Fazlur Rahman Khan

The Bangladeshi American civil engineer known for his innovations in high-rise building construction. He is regarded as the “father of tubular designs” for high-rise buildings, including what was the tallest building for 20+ years — the Sears Tower in Chicago.

Biography You Need To Know: Maya Lin

This American architect and sculptor is best known for her design of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Furthermore, The HISTORY Channel will share educational resources across its social and digital platforms about the history and contributions of Asian Americans and the roots of Anti-Asian racism.

Lifetime’s social platforms during Asian Pacific American Heritage Month will be dedicated to highlighting Asian American women who have made a significant impact to our culture for their Fierce Female Fridays featurette . The women Lifetime will shine a spotlight on include war veteran and senator Tammy Duckworth (5/7), Chinese suffrage activist Dr. Mabel Lee (5/14), journalist Lisa Ling (5/21), and designer Monique Lhuillier (5/26).

Other Asian American women Lifetime has featured for Fierce Female Fridays include the first female Vice President of the United States, Kamala Harris, sexual assault activist Amanda Nguyen, comedian and actress Awkwafina, the first Asian American congresswoman Patsy Mink and actress Sandra Oh.
