LOS ANGELES, CA (August 18, 2022) – Lifetime continues to dive deep into current events and add to its captivating slate of movies and casting for 2022 with the upcoming October Ripped from the Headline movies, Swindler Seduction and An Amish Sin. Premiering on Saturday October 22nd, Swindler Seduction features Colton Haynes (Arrow, Teen Wolf) in a dual role, playing crooked twin brothers, starring alongside Gabrielle Graham (Twenties, Possessor). The inspired-by-true events thriller exposes the world of the romantic con artists – men who earn their living off women who they fool and steal from.

The following Saturday on October 29th, An Amish Sin stars Kellie Martin (Army Wives, Life Goes On), Dylan Ratzlaff (A Million Little Things, Doomsday Mom) and Rukiya Bernard (Yellowjackets, Van Helsing), and is the story of an Amish teen who tries to escape the harshness of the 18th century lifestyle she has grew up in to find her voice and independence in a neighboring city.

Short form specials Beyond The Headlines: Swindler Seduction and Beyond The Headlines: An Amish Sin will debut directly after each respective premiere, and will include interviews and deeper insights among the current events highlighted.

Both films will join our previously announced slate of Ripped from the Headlines movies, including The Gabby Petito Story (Oct 1), The Disappearance of Cari Farver (Oct 8), and Let’s Get Physical (Oct 15). All movies will run on back-to-back Saturdays in October and debut at 8p/7c.

Swindler Seduction

When Louisa (Gabrielle Graham) meets handsome and sweet Steve (Colton Haynes) at a bar in Chicago, he seems like the perfect guy: an angel investor and entrepreneur who just sold a company for millions. 48 blissful, sexy hours and countless lies later, Steve disappears, and Louisa realizes she’s been swindled out of thousands of dollars. Beyond The Headlines: Swindler Seduction explores the phenomenon of evil and criminal twins and the environmental and genetic circumstances that can lead twin siblings to a life of crime. In this special, we speak with a forensic psychologist to deconstruct and analyze a true crime case of identical twin sisters who turned on each other.

An Amish Sin

The Amish world has always fascinated outsiders with its insular community and 18th century lifestyle that shuns the temptations of modernity. But all is not as wholesome as it seems. Inspired by true stories, Amish Sin follows Rachel (Dylan Ratzlaff), an Amish teen who refuses to obey her parent’s command that she marry the man who abused her as a child. When she attempts to run away, she is caught and sent to a “rehab” for Amish girls who don’t follow the rules. Managing to escape from the facility, she makes her way to a neighboring city where she has to learn to live – and find her place — in our world. Also stars Kellie Martin as Rachel’s mother Sara and Rukiya Bernard as Grace, who befriends Rachel when she leaves the Amish community.

Lifetime keeps everyone on their toes this September with The Bad Seed Returns premiering on Labor Day, Monday, September 5th, then new movies every Saturday, inspired by true stories! Tackling a horrific Ripped from the Headlines story of parents who keep their six kids locked up in their home in House of Chains debuting on September 10th. As the month continues, Girl in Room 13 debuts September 17th, as the power story of a mother searching for her daughter who is being human trafficked. Dying for a Crown closes out the month on September 24th and is the story of a girl willing to do anything for popularity.

THE BAD SEED RETURNS

After the murderous events that left her father (Rob Lowe) dead, 15-year-old Emma, a seemingly typical teenaged girl, is now living with aunt Angela (Michelle Morgan) and navigating high school. But the darkness can only be hidden for so long, especially when Angela’s husband Robert (Benjamin Ayers) begins to suspect Emma may not be as innocent as she appears, and a new girl at school, Kat (Ella Dixon), seems to know Emma’s secrets from the past. Left with no choice, Emma slips back to her old ways to take care of her enemies by any means necessary.

Patty McCormack, who earned an Academy Award and Golden Globe nomination from the 1956 version of The Bad Seed reprises her role as Emma’s therapist Dr. March.

HOUSE OF CHAINS

Starring Mena Suvari and Greyston Holt

SEPTEMBER 10TH AT 8/7C

House of Chains tells the story of a seemingly normal, suburban family whose dark secrets remained hidden for years. Following their own set of strict religious beliefs, parents Laura (Suvari) and Tye (Holt) keep their six children separated from the outside world. As the children grow older and begin to ask questions Laura and Tye’s authoritarian ways grow stronger leading them down a path of child abuse, neglect and imprisonment. In order to keep their younger siblings safe and to free themselves from the shackles their parents have created the older children band together and risk a harrowing escape to alert authorities and save their family.

Inspired by actual events, Girl in Room 13 examines the story of Grace (Dias), who was addicted to opioids after her doctor prescribed them for a sports injury at a very young age and after three stints in rehab, she is finally ready to turn her life around. Under the watchful eye of her mother, Janie (Heche), Grace takes on a job at her family’s restaurant. But her past will not let her go and when her friend coerces her into meeting her former love interest and drug dealer, Richie (Montesi), she finds herself imprisoned in a motel room with no way out. Held captive, Richie repeatedly violates Grace, forces her to consume drugs and alcohol, and starves her — all to break her down so that she becomes compliant and can be sold into human trafficking. Refusing to give up on her daughter even when her husband and the local police believe Grace has returned to a life of using, Janie starts an all-out hunt to find Grace. Stopping at nothing, Janie discovers the dark world of human trafficking and the shocking statistics about its widespread victims and its unexpected accomplices.

Inspired by true events. Lydia Campbell (Jennifer Titus) and her daughter Elle (Catherine Daddario) have just relocated to Florida from Los Angeles under mysterious circumstances. Lydia is the new Assistant Principal at Bellview High where Elle is a senior. Being new to town, both are looking to live a better life and will do anything to achieve it. As prom season begins, with Lydia by her side, Elle stops at nothing to gain popularity and become homecoming queen.

LOS ANGELES, CA (August 11, 2022) – With October marking the start of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, The Gabby Petito Story is set to premiere on Saturday, October 1 at 8/7c on Lifetime and star Skyler Samuels (Nine Lives of Chloe King, Scream Queens) as Gabby Petito and Evan Hall (Orange is the New Black, Mars) as Brian Laundrie. Timed to the one-year disappearance of Gabby Petito, the movie is part of Lifetime’s Stop Violence Against Women public affairs initiative. As a trusted destination for women, Lifetime created a new PSA to debut as part of the movie’s roll out, driving to the important work of the network’s partner, the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence and their helpline to provide resources for women. The documentary special, Beyond the Headlines: Gabby Petito will air following the movie at 10/9c for a more in-depth look at the true story.

The Gabby Petito Story explores Gabby and her fiancé Brian Laundrie’s complicated relationship and what may have gone wrong during their cross-country trip that resulted in Gabby’s tragic murder.

The disappearance of Gabby Petito captured America’s attention, setting off a nationwide search for the 22-year-old travel blogger after her parents reported her missing in September 2021, when she failed to return home following her cross country “van-life” trip with her fiancé Brian Laundrie. Non-stop coverage on the news drove amateur sleuths to dissect Gabby’s social media posts for clues about what happened to her during her trip, leading to the eventual discovery of her body in Wyoming. As the one-year anniversary of her tragic death approaches, the movie will bring to life Gabby and Brian’s doomed love story, including the warning signs that Gabby’s life was in danger, the ensuing search for her, the eventual discovery of her murder and ultimately, Brian’s suicide.

Skyler Samuels is best known for playing ‘Chloe King’ in ABC Family’s Nine Lives of Chloe King, which garnered her a Teen Choice Award for Breakout Actress. Samuels followed that with a leading role in Ryan Murphy’s Fox series Scream Queens. She also worked with Murphy again on FX’s hit series American Horror Story: Freak Show. Recently, Samuels starred as a series regular on Fox’s The Gifted. She also starred in Lifetime’s Switched Before Birth. Her film credits include Liongate’s Public Disturbance, Spare Room, The Duff and shot a lead in the Sony Franchise The Meg with Jason Statham.

Evan Hall was a recurring character on the critically acclaimed Orange is the New Black. He was also a series regular on the Nat Geo series Mars, produced by Brian Grazer and Ron Howard’s Imagine Entertainment. Hall has amassed an impressive list of guest star credits including shows such as Elementary, Blue Bloods, The Equalizer, Blacklist and more. His film credits include Rebel in the Rye, In Searching, C Street and Just Ask, as well as numerous shorts. He also has a long list of voiceover credits.

Golden Globe(R), BAFTA(R) and Emmy(R)-nominated and SAG-winning actress Thora Birch (The Walking Dead, American Beauty, Ghost World) makes her directorial debut in this film and plays Gabby’s mom, Nichole Schmidt. The film marks Birch’s return to Lifetime, having starred in highly rated films, Homeless to Harvard: The Liz Murray Story in 2003 for which she earned an Emmy(R) nomination and The Pregnancy Pact in 2010.

The Gabby Petito Story is produced for Lifetime by Hybrid. The film is written by Gregory Small and Richard Blaney (Gone Mom, Jodi Arias: Dirty Little Secret) and directed by Thora Birch. Birch joins Lifetime’s growing roster of first-time directors through their Broader Focus program.

Being a leader in telling powerful stories of women and providing a platform to shine a light on unheard voices, Lifetime is also in development on several movies surrounding violence against women who may not have had the same media attention as Gabby Petito. These include the stories of Carlesha Freeland-Gaither, Adriane Fields, Beatrice Weston, among others, with each project in various stages of development.

Beyond the Headlines: Gabby Petito is a one-hour true crime documentary special that will chronicle the twists and turns of the tragic road trip through the lens of Gabby’s social media presence as told both by the people who knew her best and a community of online strangers and cyber sleuths who ended up banding together to ultimately solve this shocking homicide. Two timelines were unfolding in the Gabby Petito story – a private one and a very public one. Beyond the Headlines: Gabby Petito will give viewers an inside look at both sides of Gabby’s life and the chasm that existed between the two.

Los Angeles, CA – August 11, 2022- Lifetime is making a star-studded list, checking it twice, and adding EGOT award winner Rita Moreno and returning favorites Marissa Jaret Winokur and Sarah Drew to the network’s 2022 It’s a Wonderful Lifetime movie slate. Moreno will be starring in Santa Bootcamp along with Winokur (Hairspray), Emily Kinney (The Walking Dead) and Justin Gaston (Nashville Star) and the holiday tentpole movie will be directed by the network’s Queen of Christmas, Melissa Joan Hart. This will mark a holiday reunion for Hart and Winokur, as they previously starred in the network’s 2018 film A Very Nutty Christmas together. In addition, Santa Bootcamp will be Hart’s fourth directed picture for the network, which will join her previously directed Lifetime films, The Santa Con, Feliz NaviDAD and The Watcher in the Woods. Santa Bootcamp will also showcase the network’s commitment to diversity and inclusivity, as deaf actors Deanne Bray and Zyra Singleton will be joining the cast.

Sarah Drew (Grey’s Anatomy, Cruel Summer) pulls triple duty as the star, executive producer, and writer of Reindeer Games Homecoming. Drew stars opposite Justin Bruening (Sweet Magnolias, Grey’s Anatomy), reuniting the two former co-stars. Sarah has previously starred in Twinkle All the Way and Christmas Pen Pals. All will be joining Lifetime’s current nice list of announced 2022 holiday talent which includes Mario Lopez, Jana Kramer, Keshia Knight Pulliam, Patti LaBelle, Brooke Elliott, Brandon Quinn and Danny Pintauro.

“I have always been a holiday person… particularly Christmas. The idea that I’m actually going to participate in this wonderful Lifetime Christmas movie, Santa Bootcamp, just tickles me to no end,” said Moreno. “I have been known, at Christmas time, to decorate anyone in my house who happens to stand still for more than a minute. I will decorate anyone and anything because I turn into a child. Therefore, what a treat for me! Thank you Lifetime. My grandchildren are already celebrating!”

SANTA BOOTCAMP

When event planner, Emily Strauss (Emily Kinney, The Walking Dead), is hired by mall magnate, Ed Mancini (Patrick Cassidy, Castle) to stage the ultimate Christmas Gala for his most important investors, Emily finds herself being sent to bootcamp – Santa Bootcamp – to find the perfect Santa and inspiration she will need to make the evening a success. While there, Emily meets Belle (Rita Moreno, West Side Story), the bootcamp’s drill sergeant with a heart of gold, who helps Emily rediscover the magic of Christmas and find romance along the way. Additional casting includes Tony(R) award winner Marissa Jaret Winokur, Justin Gaston, John Schuck, and deaf actors Deanne Bray and Zyra Singleton

REINDEER GAMES HOMECOMING

MacKenzie Graves (Sarah Drew, Grey’s Anatomy, Amber Brown) is a brilliant, competitive, crossword puzzle loving Biology teacher in Vermont who recently lost her father, beloved fire chief and the heart of the town’s holiday fundraising tradition “The Reindeer Games.” Every year since his death, she competes with her dad’s former team, a group of colorful retired firefighters, to win the Games and keep his tradition alive. The holiday however, her world is rocked when fading Hollywood star, and Mac’s high school crush, Chase Weston (Justin Bruening, Grey’s Anatomy, Sweet Magnolias), comes home for Christmas to visit his pregnant sister and nephew and is begrudgingly roped into participating in the Games. When the opportunity to compete against her former mega crush arises, Mac is determined to show him up and win the Kris Kringle Cup at all costs. As the competition heats up, so does the spark between Mac and Chase, and Chase soon finds himself eager to not only win the games, but also win her heart as well. Brian Sills also stars.

New York, NY – August 11 – Lifetime announces two new Ripped from the Headlines movies, Let’s Get Physical and The Disappearance of Cari Farver from executive producers Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, under their Milojo Productions banner as part of the previously announced partnership with Lifetime. Let’s Get Physical stars and is also executive produced by Jenna Dewan via her Everheart Productions with Kyle McNally, and features Jennifer Irwin and Michael Consuelos. The Disappearance of Cari Farver stars Lea Thompson, Zach Gilford and Alicia Witt. Both films will debut this October on Lifetime.

The Disappearance of Cari Farver is based on a true story and the subject of Leslie Rule’s bestselling true-crime book A Tangled Web. Dave Kroupa (Zach Gilford, Good Girls, Friday Night Lights) is shocked when his new girlfriend, Cari Farver (Rebecca Amzallag), starts sending him demanding texts. When Dave ends the relationship, he finds himself on the receiving end of an onslaught of twisted messages from Cari, who has abruptly disappeared. Dave’s ex-girlfriend, Liz (Alicia Witt, Friday Night Lights, The Walking Dead), also begins receiving harassing texts from Cari, resulting in a dangerous situation for them both. Meanwhile, Cari’s mother Nancy (Lea Thompson, Back to the Future, Switched at Birth) continually searches for her, keeping the pressure on the police who eventually uncover a shocking discovery. The Disappearance of Cari Farver premieres Saturday, October 8 at 8/7c.

Inspired by actual events, Let’s Get Physical is the story of fitness instructor Sadie (Jenna Dewan, The Rookie) who by day, taught fitness and dance to soccer moms, but by night led a double life running a sophisticated prostitution ring with a customer list that included very prominent men in the community. After an anonymous tip, authorities raided her studio, leading to Sadie’s indictment and ignited a firestorm in the small town leading everyone to ask, who exactly was on the client list. Dewan executive produces and stars alongside Jennifer Irwin (The Goldbergs) and Michael Consuelos (Riverdale). Let’s Get Physical is set to premiere Saturday, October 15 at 8/7c.

She meets Carla (Laurie Fortier, The Walking Dead), a successful event planner, who offers what seems to be the perfect job to pay for tuition. But before long, Eve discovers this opportunity is nothing more than a front for a dangerous scheme with deadly consequences. Los Angeles, CA (July 20, 2022) – Lifetime has greenlit the new original movie House of Chains, inspired by the disturbing true story of a troubled married couple who imprisoned their six children within their home due to an intense religious ideology. Mena Suvari (American Woman) and Greyston Holt (The Night Agent) star in the disturbing Ripped from The Headlines story from MarVista Entertainment. The film also stars Natalie Jane, Carina London Battrick, Callum McAllister, Aias Dalman, Madeleine Kane, Isla Grimes, Owen Irvin McCullough, Hudson Wurster, Joey Carson and Grayson Taylor-Day as the children at various ages and will debut this fall on Lifetime.

House of Chains tells the story of a seemingly normal, suburban family whose dark secrets remained hidden for years. Following their own set of strict religious beliefs, parents Laura and Tye keep their children separated from the outside world. As the children grow older and begin to ask questions Laura and Tye’s authoritarian ways grow stronger leading them down a path of child abuse, neglect and imprisonment. In order to keep their younger siblings safe and to free themselves from the shackles their parents have created the older children band together and risk a harrowing escape to alert authorities and save their family.

The Bad Seed Returns stars Mckenna Grace as 15-year-old Emma, a seemingly typical teenaged girl who is anything but that. Set several years after the murderous events of the first movie which left her father (Rob Lowe) dead, Emma is now living with her aunt Angela and navigating high school. Angela’s husband begins to suspect that Emma may not be as innocent as she appears and suggests sending her off to boarding school. Meanwhile, a new girl (Ella Dixon) at school seems to know Emma’s secrets, leaving Emma no choice but to slip back to her old ways and take care of her enemies by any means necessary.
