New York, NY – August 10, 2022 – IFC today announced the exciting and star-studded lineup of guest stars set to appear in the upcoming season of the Emmy®-winning variety series Sherman’s Showcase, returning to IFC and AMC+ on Wednesday, October 26 at 10:30pm ET. AMC+ will premiere the first two episodes on October 26, with additional episodes available to stream on the service one week early. The series is produced by RadicalMedia, producers of this year’s Academy Award®-winning Best Documentary Film.

All-new award-winning actors, musicians and entertainers that will be seen flexing their comedic muscles in the witty, irreverent and wholly original series, including (alphabetically) Ace Vane, Emmy®-nominee Demi Adejuyigbe, Desi Banks, Jerome Benton, Michael Blackson, Heidy De La Rosa, Emmy®-winner Chris Hardwick, Emily Kinney, Ted Lange, Laci Mosley, Rashida Olayiwola “Sheedz,” Emmy®-nominee Dewayne Perkins, Jay Pharoah, Emmy®-nominee Issa Rae, GRAMMY®-winner and Emmy®-nominee Chance The Rapper, Amanda Seales, Kent Shocknek, Emmy®-nominee Paul F. Tompkins and Porsha Williams. Returning guest stars include (in alphabetical order): Eliza Coupe, Morris Day, Rob Haze, Emmy®-, GRAMMY®-, Oscar®– and Tony®-winner and executive producer John Legend, Emmy®-nominee Nigel Lythgoe, GRAMMY®-nominee Vic Mensa, Tawny Newsome, Xosha Roquemore, Chandra Russell, Zuri Salahuddin and Bresha Webb.

Said Blake Callaway, General Manager of IFC, “Sherman’s Showcase has it all. Bashir and Diallo have delivered a jam-packed new season full of sketches, songs, fashion statements, movie parodies, outrageous antics, and even a trip to Lagos. This block party of a sketch show is back and better than ever.”

“We worked so hard to make this season happen,” show creators Riddle and Salahuddin said in a statement. “We filmed during a Covid spike. Our writers’ room was in a parking lot. We were wearing masks in the recording booth. It was insane. Still, somehow, we think we’ve topped Season 1. As our director Matthew Piedmont has said, we tried to only elevate the Sherman’s Showcase experience this season. And despite the challenges, the cast, crew, and a ton of dancers and stars still found their way to the studio where we shoot this show. Risking their lives. And ours. It was worth it.”

The acclaimed series Sherman’s Showcase features sketches, dancers, fake commercials, movie trailers, cultural nostalgia, the Funk Monster, A-list guest stars and original songs (“Drop it Low for Jesus,” “Marina Del Ray”) that definitely climbed the fictional charts. Each episode is hosted by Sherman McDaniels as he takes viewers through time, via music and comedy drawn from the 50-year library of a legendary (but fictional) musical variety show.

Sherman’s Showcase’s first season is rated 100% Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and is created by Bashir Salahuddin (Top Gun: Maverick, South Side) and Diallo Riddle (Marlon, South Side), who also star and executive produce. Emmy® and Tony® winner Mike Jackson, EGOT recipient John Legend, and Emmy®-winner and CEO of the management, media and social impact company Friends at Work, Ty Stiklorious serve as executive producers through their Get Lifted Film Co. (La La Land, Underground, Jesus Christ Superstar). Pete Aronson serves as executive producer, and Frank Scherma and Johnathan Meyers of RadicalMedia, the production company behind this year’s Academy Award-winning Best Documentary Film, also executive produce. AMC Studios Content Distribution is managing worldwide sales of the show.

IFC FILMS TAKES NORTH AMERICA ON “THE LOST KING” FROM STEPHEN FREARS STARRING SALLY HAWKINS AND STEVE COOGAN AHEAD OF WORLD PREMIERE AT THE TORONTO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

Film tells the incredible true story of Philippa Langley, who uncovered the remains of King Richard the III, which had been lost for 500 years

NEW YORK, NY – August 10, 2022 – IFC Films is acquiring North American rights to THE LOST KING ahead of its World Premiere at the 47th Toronto International Film Festival. THE LOST KING reunites the Oscar nominated and BAFTA winning creative team behind box office and critical hit, PHILOMENA – director Stephen Frears and writers Steve Coogan and Jeff Pope. The film stars Oscar nominee and Golden Globe winning actress Sally Hawkins (THE SHAPE OF WATER) in the lead role of Philippa Langley, alongside Steve Coogan (PHILOMENA, THE TRIP SERIES) in the role of Philippa’s husband, John Langley. The film is produced by Steve Coogan with Christine Langan (THE QUEEN) and Dan Winch (A VERY ENGLISH SCANDAL) and is a Baby Cow production for Pathé, BBC Film, Ingenious Media and Screen Scotland. Executive Producers are Cameron McCracken and Jenny Borgars for Pathé; Rose Garnett for BBC Film; Andrea Scarso for Ingenious; Jeff Pope and Philippa Langley. The film was Co-produced by Wendy Griffin.

THE LOST KING tells the remarkable true story of amateur historian Philippa Langley played by Sally Hawkins, who was behind the real life discovery of King Richard III in 2012 after the remains had been lost for 500 years. Langley spent years researching and searching for the remains, in spite of skepticism from friends, family and academics. The film is the life-affirming true story of a woman who refused to be ignored and who took on the country’s most eminent historians, forcing them to think again about one of the most controversial kings in England’s history.

Of the acquisition, Director Stephen Frears said,“I’m delighted that THE LOST KING has found a home in North America with IFC Films. It was hugely enjoyable to work again with Steve and Jeff and we were blessed with an incredible performance from Sally. Toronto is always special and now we have IFC at our side”.

Arianna Bocco, President of IFC Films said, “We are delighted to collaborate with the exceptional creative team behind THE LOST KING. Stephen, Steve and Jeff and our friends at Pathe have brought the astounding story of Philippa Langley to life and Sally Hawkins has added another brilliant performance to her resume. We can’t wait to have the world premiere with our amazing friends at Toronto this year in person, on a big screen.”

The deal for the film was negotiated by IFC Films’ Head of Acquisitions and Production Scott Shooman with Cameron McCracken, Managing Director, Pathe UK on behalf of the filmmakers.

ALEXANDER SKARSGÅRD, NICHOLAS BRAUN AND MORE JOIN THE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED 53RD SEASON

ALEXANDER SKARSGÅRD, NICHOLAS BRAUN AND MORE JOIN THE HIGHLY ANTICIPATED 53RD SEASON OF DOCUMENTARY NOW!

Duo to Star in Two-Part Episode “Soldier of Illusion” Set to Kick-off Season 53 Premiering Wednesday, October 19 on IFC and AMC+

NEW YORK – August 5, 2022 – IFC today released a first look teaser and final details from the highly anticipated 53rd season of Documentary Now!. The two-part season premiere episode, “Soldier of Illusion,” written by John Mulaney, and “Trouver Frisson,” paying tribute to the films of Agnes Varda, join previously announced episodes “Two Hairdressers in Bagglyport,” “How They Threw Rocks” and “My Monkey Grifter” to round out the season. Known for lovingly paying homage to the world of documentaries, Documentary Now! Season 53 will debut with a two-episode premiere on Wednesday, October 19 at 10 PM on IFC, and on AMC+ the same day. New episodes to debut weekly on Wednesdays.

The upcoming season of the critically acclaimed comedy, co-created by Fred Armisen, Bill Hader, Seth Meyers and Rhys Thomas, executive produced by Lorne Michaels and produced by Broadway Video, will include six all-new documentary-inspired episodes. Descriptions for “Soldier of Illusion” and “Trouver Frisson” are below:

The two-part, season premiere episode, “Soldier of Illusion,” written by John Mulaney and starring Alexander Skarsgård (The Northman, Big Little Lies), Nicholas Braun (Succession, Zola) and August Diehl (Inglourious Basterds), was inspired by the Werner Herzog-focused documentary Burden of Dreams. In the early 1980s, a visionary German filmmaker (Skarsgård) tries to will his magnum opus into existence while working in the remote, punishing conditions of the Russian Ular mountains. Kevin Bishop (Miracle Workers, The Tracey Ullman Show), Gana Bayarsaikhan (Wonder Woman), Matthias Rimpler (Ludzie i Bogowie) and Fred Armisen will also star, with Documentary Now! ensemble alumni Deb Hiett returning as narrator.

“Trouver Frisson”features French actor Liliane Rovère (Call My Agent!, Family Business) and Ronald Guttman (Godfather of Harlem, Sister of the Groom). Inspired by Agnes Varda’s Gleaners and I and Beaches of Agnes, celebrated French filmmaker Ida Leos (Rovère) searches for why she no longer experiences “frisson” – the goosebumps that have always been her guide. Written by series producers Matt Pacult and Tamsin Rawady and co-directed by Micah Gardner, the episode also stars Documentary Now! alumni Gary Kraus.
These new titles join the three previously announced episodes, all written by Seth Meyers, to round out Season 53:

“Two Hairdressers in Bagglyport” will star two-time Academy Award®-winner and Documentary Now! alumni Cate Blanchett (Blue Jasmine, Carol), as well as Emmy®-nominated actress Harriet Walter (Succession, Killing Eve). Paying homage to documentaries 3 Salons at the Seaside and The September Issue, the episode is a fly-on-the-wall portrait of a hair salon owner (Walter) and her staff (Blanchett), in the small coastal village of Bagglyport as they prepare their yearly stylebook. Fred Armisen will also star as George the Postman.

“How They Threw Rocks” will feature Welsh actors Trystan Gravelle (Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power, A Discovery of Witches), Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes, The Crown) and John Rhys-Davies (The Lord of The Rings, Indiana Jones), as well as legendary Welsh singer Tom Jones. In the vein of When We Were Kings and other great explorations of sport, the episode chronicles the Welsh sport of Craig Maes, also known as “Field Rock,” and the iconic 1974 bout dubbed “The Melon vs. The Felon (Gravelle).” Fellow Welsh actor Sam C. Wilson (Dodger) joins as infamous Craig Maes competitor Sior Strawboss or “The Melon.”

“My Monkey Grifter” will be helmed by actor Jamie Demetriou (The Afterparty). Drawing inspiration from My Octopus Teacher, the episode follows Benjamin Clay (Demetriou), a filmmaker who forms a deep, emotional, and financially taxing relationship with a monkey who may have ulterior motives. Fred Armisen also joins as Detective Blakely.
The six-time Emmy®-nominated Documentary Now! debuted to rave reviews from critics and quickly became a fan favorite thanks to its insightful take on some of the most well-known documentary films. Each episode takes viewers back in time to honor groundbreaking documentaries. Season 52 guest stars included Cate Blanchett, Owen Wilson, Michael Keaton, Natasha Lyonne, John Mulaney, Michael C. Hall, Taran Killam, Richard Kind, and more.

Documentary Now! is executive produced by Fred Armisen, Bill Hader, Seth Meyers, Rhys Thomas, Alex Buono, John Mulaney, Broadway Video’s Andrew Singer, and Lorne Michaels. Once again, Thomas and Buono are the show directors with Lee Groombridge, Matt Pacult and Tamsin Rawady serving as producers. Alice Mathias and David Cress co-executive produce, with Eddie Michaels and Andrew Garland producing for Broadway Video and Erik Kenward serving as consulting producer. EMU Films produced in the UK and Belgium with Jim Mooney, Michael Elliott and Wali Ullah serving as executives.

Irreverent New Zealand Comedy Premieres Thursday, August 4 as a Binge Release on Sundance Now, Followed by a Two-Episode Broadcast Premiere Wednesday, August 17 on IFC

NEW YORK – July 29, 2022 – AMC Networks’ IFC and the targeted streaming service Sundance Now released today an all-new trailer for the irreverent kiwi comedy Good Grief. Season two of the original series will make its U.S., Canadian and U.K. premiere on Thursday, August 4 as binge release on Sundance Now, followed by its North American two-episode broadcast premiere on IFC beginning Wednesday, August 17.

Co-created, co-written and starring sisters Eve and Grace Palmer along with co-creator/co-writer Nick Schaedel, the six-episode comedy series is set in small New Zealand town and follows two millennial sisters with very different personalities who inherit a funeral home from their grandfather.

Since inheriting the Loving Tributes funeral home in Season 1, Ellie (Eve Palmer) and Gwen Goode (Grace Palmer, Adrift) have set off on very different paths. Ellie embraces her inner ‘girlboss’, with all the ill-fitting pantsuits, amateur TV ads, and plumber liaisons that entails. Meanwhile, Gwen spends five months DJing in Bali and reappears unexpectedly in New Zealand to discover their mother has a new boyfriend and she’s been kicked out of the family home. Gwen moves in with Ellie, takes up the job of social marketing for Loving Tributes, and embarks on a childish prank war against their mother’s new partner. As family tensions escalate at work and at home, Ellie must decide whether to intervene, or let Gwen grow up all by herself.

Good Grief, Season 2 is directed by Kiel McNaughton (The Legend of Baron To’a, My Life is Murder), produced by Angela Cudd (I Am Waru) and Kerry Warkia (Vai, Waru).

SHUDDER SLATES SUNDANCE MIDNIGHT OFFICIAL SELECTION SPEAK NO EVIL

2022 FESTIVAL HIT TO RECEIVE U.S. THEATRICAL RUN VIA IFC MIDNIGHT – OPENING IN NY & LA ON SEPTEMBER 9 | Film to Play at New York’s IFC Center and Los Angeles’ Laemmle Monica Film Center | Streams September 15, Only on Shudder
NEW YORK – July 25, 2022 – Shudder, AMC Networks’ premium streaming service for horror, thrillers and the supernatural, and IFC Midnight announced today a theatrical run for the highly-anticipated psychological horror Speak No Evil beginning Friday, September 9 ahead of the film’s streaming debut on Thursday, September 15. A national rollout will follow beginning Friday, September 16. An official selection of Sundance Midnight 2022, Speak No Evil is written and directed by Christian Tafdrup (A Horrible Woman) and has also played the Goteborg Film Festival 2022, Seattle International Film Festival 2022, Chicago Critics Film Festival, the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival where Tafdrup won Best Director, and the Fantasia International Film Festival.

In Speak No Evil, on a vacation in Tuscany, two families – one Danish, one Dutch – meet and become fast friends. Months later, the free-spirited Dutch family extends an invitation to the more conservative Danish one for a holiday weekend getaway at their countryside home. However, it doesn’t take long before things gradually get out of hand as the joy of reunion is replaced with misunderstandings. The Dutch hospitality quickly turns unnerving for the Danes, and they find themselves increasingly caught in a web of their own politeness in the face of eccentric…or is it sinister…behavior.

Written by Tafdrup and his brother, Mads Tafdrup (A Horrible Woman), Speak No Evil stars Morten Burian and Sidsel Siem Koch as the Danish couple, Bjørn and Louise, as well as Fedja van Huêt and Karina Smulders as the Dutch couple, Patrick and Karin.

Speak No Evil is Tafdrup’s first genre film and was presented as part of Works-in-Progress at the Gothenburg (Göteborg) Nordic Film Market 2021. The acquisition deal was negotiated by Emily Gotto, VP, Global Acquisitions & Co-Productions on behalf of Shudder and Susan Wendt, Managing Director of TrustNordisk (Another Round) on behalf of the filmmakers ahead of Sundance.

The film is produced by Profile Pictures’ producer Jacob Jarek (Holy Spider, Rams), in co-production with Oak Motion Pictures in the Netherlands, with support from The Danish Film Institute, FilmFyn, The Netherlands Film Production Incentive, with co-financing from DR and Nordisk Film Distribution. Local distribution will be facilitated through Nordisk Film Distribution.

BREAKOUT SENEGALESE FILM TO RECEIVE U.S. THEATRICAL RUN VIA IFC MIDNIGHT – OPENING IN NY & LA ON SEPTEMBER 2 FILM TO PLAY AT NEW YORK’S IFC CENTER AND LOS ANGELES’ ALAMO DRAFTHOUSE | Streams September 8 Only on Shudder
NEW YORK – July 14, 2022 – Shudder, AMC Networks’ premium streaming service for horror, thrillers and the supernatural, and IFC Midnight announced today a theatrical run for the highly-anticipated and award-winning Shudder Original Saloum beginning Friday, September 2 ahead of the film’s streaming debut on Thursday, September 8. A national rollout will follow beginning Friday, September 9. The film, written and directed by Jean Luc Herbulot (Dealer) was a breakout release of Midnight Madness at the 2021 Toronto International Film Festival, before playing Fantastic Fest 2021, the Red Sea International Film Festival, the Sydney Film Festival, and the 2021 Vancouver International Film Festival.

“Saloum is a bold combination of horror, revenge thriller and African folklore that’s worthy of every bit of praise it’s been receiving at festivals,” said Shudder General Manager, Craig Engler. “We’re proud to share this incredibly original and thrilling film from the distinctive voice of Jean Luc Herbulot with our members and theatergoers.”

Said Herbulot, “I created the Hyenas as a personal gift for my own 7-year-old self who grew up without heroes and my 37-year-old self who was bored by modern African cinema, and today I hope they can be the heroes of many across the globe. It’s very important for us at Lacmé that this type of story offers a glimpse of what African myths and legends can generously deliver to a global audience.”

In Saloum, shot down after fleeing a coup and extracting a drug lord from Guinea-Bissau, the legendary mercenaries known as the Bangui Hyenas – Chaka, Rafa and Midnight – must stash their stolen gold bounty, lay low long enough to repair and refuel their plane and escape back to Dakar, Senegal. When they take refuge at a holiday camp in the coastal region of Sine-Saloum, they do their best to blend in with their fellow guests; including a mute named Awa, with secrets of her own, and a policeman who may be on their tail, but it’s Chaka who happens to be hiding the darkest secret of them all. Unbeknownst to the other Hyenas, he’s brought them there for a reason and once his past catches up to him, his decisions have devastating consequences, threatening to unleash hell on them all.

Saloum stars Yann Gael, Evelyne Ily Juhen, Roger Sallah, Bruno Henry, Marielle Salmier and Mentor Ba. The film marks the first production from Pamela Diop and Herbulot’s pan-African Lacme Studios. Diop produced Saloum and the executive producers are Hus Miller, Douglas Jackson, and Mike Shema. Alexis Perrin and EV.L Prod are co-producers.

The acquisition deal was negotiated by Emily Gotto, VP, Global Acquisitions & Co-Productions on behalf of Shudder and Adeline Fontan Tessaur, co-Founder and Managing Director of Elle Driver on behalf of the filmmakers.
