ATLANTA (July 14, 2022) – Court TV has renewed the original true-crime series “Someone They Knew With Tamron Hall” for a second season and has added it to its primetime schedule on weeknights at 7 p.m. ET. The show now serves as a lead-in for the network’s flagship program, “Closing Arguments with Vinnie Politan” (8-10 p.m. ET).

Hosted by Daytime Emmy Award-winning TV host, journalist, and author Tamron Hall,”Someone They Knew” stories are told from the points of view of the people impacted by the case, including lawyers, jurors, members of law enforcement, and the victim’s family and friends. Using new interviews, archival footage, and re-creations of the crime, the goal of each episode is a balanced story from victim to verdict. Hall is not only a seasoned crime reporter and true crime author, she is also committed to sharing stories consistent with the Court TV lineup.

Court TV has had a strong start to the year with the success of “Someone They Knew” and live coverage of the Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard case. The network’s coverage of Depp vs. Heard nearly quadrupled the audience for the networks’ live trial coverage as compared to the pre-trial period (+278%). Daily streaming hours more than quintupled during this same period (+415%). More than 500,000 viewers – the most since the network relaunched in 2019 – tuned into Court TV to watch the verdict in the trial on Wednesday, June 1.

Streaming viewership for trial up more than 400%

ATLANTA, June 7, 2022 — More than 500,000 viewers – the most since the network relaunched in 2019 – tuned into Court TV to watch the verdict in the Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard trial on Wednesday, June 1.

Court TV viewing that day exceeded 500K between 3:20-3:30 p.m. ET – during the time the verdicts were read – with 538K viewers 2+. Viewing peaked at 3:27 p.m. with 558K viewers P2+.

Court TV was one of the highest-rated television networks among broadcast and cable, ahead of ESPN, TBS, TNT, FX, ID, Discovery Channel and 127 others in viewers 2+ when compared with broadcast and ad-supported cable networks 3:15-3:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday.

Court TV’s coverage of Depp vs. Heard nearly quadrupled the audience for the networks’ live trial coverage as compared to the pre-trial period (+278%). Daily streaming hours have more than quintupled during this same period (+415%).

Pregnant model and boyfriend kill psychiatrist: Nevada vs. Kelsey Nichole Turner and Jon Logan Kennison – Former Playboy and Maxim model Kelsey Nichole Turner, 25, and her boyfriend, Jon Kennison, 27, are charged with murder in the death of respected psychiatrist, Thomas Burchard, 71. Burchard’s bludgeoned body was found in the trunk of an abandoned luxury car. Buchard had known Turner for about two years and had been helping her financially.

ATLANTA (April 22, 2021) – More than 400,000 viewers – the most since the network relaunched – tuned into Court TV to watch the verdict in the Derek Chauvin trial on Tuesday, April 20.

Court TV viewing Tuesday afternoon peaked between 4:30-5:30 p.m. ET – during which time the verdicts were read – at 402K viewers 2+. Court TV was ranked in the top 15 ahead of such networks as ID, ESPN, TBS, TNT, FX, Discovery Channel and 100 others in viewers 2+ when compared with ad-supported cable networks 4:30-5:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday.

April 20 was the most-watched day since Court TV was rebooted in May 2019 with increases as high as +10 times the pre-Chauvin trial time period average. The network’s trial coverage itself was up more than +330 percent.

In terms of streaming viewing, Court TV was up more than 20 times for the trial and more than 40 times for the verdict versus the pre-trial average.

Court TV officials worked with Hennepin County court officials in Minnesota for months to ensure that cameras would be allowed in the courtroom and that all viewers would have full access to the proceedings.

Forty-six-year-old African American George Floyd was killed on May 25, 2020, in Minneapolis while being arrested for allegedly using a counterfeit bill. Footage showing Minneapolis police officer Chauvin kneeling on Floyd’s neck while three police colleagues looked on, went viral on social media and sparked a global movement protesting against police brutality and racism. Chauvin was tried separately and was found guilty on all charges: second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. The three other officers, charged with aiding and abetting murder, will be tried later this year; Court TV will air the trial.

Michael Ayala, a popular face on the original Court TV, will be joining the network once again teaming with Vinnie Politan, Julie Grant and Ted Rowlands on the network’s anchor desk. An attorney and EMMY(R)-Award winner, Ayala has over 20 years of experience in-front of the camera. He previously was an anchor, reporter, writer and researcher for the original Court TV where he covered and reported on the cases involving O.J. Simpson, Scott Peterson, the Menendez Brothers, Bill Cosby and Dr. Jack Kevorkian. Ayala, who also anchored for CBS in Chicago, will make his return debut on Court TV on August 24 and will anchor weekdays 3:00 – 6:00 pm (ET).
