New drama from writer Kirk Ellis and director Tim Van Patten, and executive producers Tony Krantz and Richard Plepler

Today Apple TV+ announced an order for a new limited event series from Emmy and WGA Award-winning writer Kirk Ellis (“John Adams”) and Emmy and DGA Award-winning director Tim Van Patten, with Academy, Emmy and AFI Lifetime Achievement Award-winner Michael Douglas set to star in the lead role as ‘Benjamin Franklin.’ Based on the book “A Great Improvisation: Franklin, France, and the Birth of America” by Pulitzer Prize winner Stacy Schiff, the new limited event series is a co-production between ITV Studios America and Apple Studios.

The drama will explore the thrilling story of one of the greatest gambles of Benjamin Franklin’s career. At age 70, without any diplomatic training, Franklin convinced France – an absolute monarchy – to underwrite America’s experiment in democracy. By virtue of his fame, charisma, and ingenuity, Franklin outmaneuvered British spies, French informers, and hostile colleagues, all while engineering the Franco-American alliance of 1778 and the final peace with England of l783. The eight-year French mission stands as Franklin’s most vital service to his country, without which America would not have won the Revolution.

The limited event series will be written and executive produced by Kirk Ellis, and directed by Tim Van Patten, who will serve as executive producer alongside Michael Douglas, Richard Plepler through EDEN productions, Tony Krantz through Flame Ventures, and Mark Mostyn. Stacy Schiff will serve as co-executive producer.

Legendary entertainer, Patti LaBelle gets into the holiday spirit starring with Keshia Knight Pulliam (Married at First Sight: Afterparty) in her fourth holiday film for the network, A New Orleans Noel, which also features Tim Reid and her real-life husband, Brad James. Pulliam executive produces alongside Whoopi Goldberg (Caught in His Web) on her second Lifetime film this year. Beloved Lifetime favorites, Mario Lopez and Jana Kramer, team up as stars and executive producers for the currently untitled dance-centric romp which will also star comedian Cheri Oteri and Lopez’s real-life wife, Courtney Lopez. Brooke Elliott, returns to Lifetime following her long-running critically acclaimed series Drop Dead Diva, to executive produce A Country Christmas Harmony with her Sweet Magnolias co-stars, Brandon Quinn and Danny Pintauro.

Grace Hill (Pulliam) and Anthony Brown (James) could not be more different. Despite having gone to college to study architecture together, their lives took them on completely separate paths. However, when they’re both hired to work together on the home of Loretta Brown (LaBelle) – a New Orleans praline icon – the two find themselves working together at Christmas…and butting heads over more than just architecture. When Anthony and his family discover that Grace will be celebrating Christmas alone, they invite her to take part in their traditions and their celebrations. Soon, fiercely independent Grace begins to learn the importance of family and community, while modern Anthony learns to embrace tradition and the magic of Christmas. But when Grace is offered a new job far away from New Orleans she’ll have to decide if she’ll leave, or follow her heart.

Now, with her record sales on a rapid decline, Chrissy is strong-armed by an unrelenting record executive to return to the hometown she left behind to perform a live Christmas concert. Accompanying her on this journey is her longtime supportive assistant Eugene (Pintauro). Luke Covington’s (Quinn) quiet life is suddenly disrupted when he runs into Chrissy, his ex-girlfriend and former country music duo partner, who disappeared on him to pursue her solo career, all those years ago. After a tempestuous rainstorm forces the ex-sweethearts to seek shelter in Luke’s ranch home, the two realize that the only way they’ll survive the holidays is with the other one’s help.

Former Broadway star, Billy Holiday (Lopez), returns to his hometown for Christmas after being abruptly fired as the host-producer-judge of the hit TV series “Celebrity Dance Off.” While there, he encounters Rae (Kramer), the charismatic owner of the local dance studio, where Billy’s 12-year-old nephew is her standout student. This Christmas Rae is planning a dance recital fundraiser with the goal of taking her students to see a Broadway show in New York City. Billy volunteers to help Rae with the recital by reviving the town’s traditional Christmas Eve show which was once a showcase for local talent. With Billy’s knack for producing and Rae’s knowledge of all things local, their collaboration clicks, and romantic sparks start flying!

· Cleo Anthony (She’s Gotta Have It, Seasons of Love) as Kam
· Darius Homayoun (Tehran, Succession) as Majid
· Dylan Bruce (Midnight Texas, Orphan Black, The Murders) as Spencer
· Wallis Day (Infinite, Batwoman) as Gigi

· Returning for season 2 recurring cast include:
· Jonathan Sadowski (Young & Hungry, Live Free Or Die Hard, Friday The 13th) as Devon
· Li Jun Li (Babylon, Florida Man, Devils) as Francesca

· Logline: SEX/LIFE is the story of a love triangle between a woman, her husband, and her past that takes a provocative new look at female identity and desire.
