ESPN Re-Signs SportsCenter Anchor Elle Duncan to New, Multi-Year Deal

ESPN has re-signed popular SportsCenter anchor Elle Duncan to a new, multi-year contract, keeping the Atlanta native as part of the ESPN team for years to come.

Duncan, who joined ESPN in 2016, co-anchors the 6 p.m. ET edition of SportsCenter with Kevin Negandhi on weekdays, a position she moved to in March of this year. She had previously anchored the noon edition as well as early-morning shows.

In addition to her work on SportsCenter, Duncan has been a co-host of the weekly ESPN podcast First Take, Her Take with Kimberley A. Martin and Charly Arnolt since June of this year and she is among a rotating group of panelists on ESPN’s afternoon program Around the Horn. She also has appeared as a panelist on Highly Questionable.

“Elle has been a fantastic team player since joining us and has handled every assignment with professionalism and a great attitude,” said Norby Williamson, ESPN Executive Vice President, Event and Studio Production & Executive Editor. “She and Kevin Negandhi on the 6 p.m. SportsCenter are a destination for fans for breaking news and a look ahead to the big matchups of the night.

“Elle excels at everything she touches and she makes us better each day.”

Earlier this year, she and Negandhi contributed to ESPN’s coverage of the NFL Draft, starting each day hosting the network’s morning show Get Up, followed both nights by leading ESPN Radio’s NFL Draft broadcasts.

An unabashed fan of the University of Georgia Bulldogs from her native state, Duncan also has been part of ESPN’s coverage of the College Football Playoff National Championship.

“For over five years, ESPN has given me the opportunity and space to be myself. And in my experience that is worth holding on to,” said Duncan. “However, there’s no greater test of that belief than me barking on air… so I’m glad we wrapped this up before college football starts. Also, Go Dawgs.”

During her time with ESPN, Duncan also has contributed to ESPN’s The Undefeated, including co-hosting the weekly radio program The Intersection in 2020 and serving as one of four panelists for the 2020 prime time television special Time for Change: We Won’t Be Defeated. She also has been a moderator for the espnW Summit.

In addition, Duncan has appeared on ABC’s Good Morning America as a panelist and as a guest reporter.

Previously, Duncan was an anchor, host and reporter for two years for the New England Sports Network (NESN) in Boston. Prior to joining NESN in early 2014, she worked in a number of on-air positions in her home city on both television and radio, including as a sports anchor and reporter for WXIA-TV, Atlanta’s NBC-TV affiliate, from 2012-2014. She also worked as a television sideline reporter for the Atlanta Hawks and on SEC and ACC college football telecasts.

Duncan, who once aspired to a singing career and has a deep love for music, started working in broadcasting in 2003 as an entertainment reporter for former Atlanta sports radio station 790 the Zone, then in 2005 began a seven-year career as an on-air personality with Atlanta hip-hop station V103 where she hosted a top-rated program.

She moved into sports as co-host of pre-game, halftime and post-game shows for the Atlanta Falcons Radio Network in 2010-2011.

Two Major Bermuda Triangle Underwater Wreck Sites Discovered While Shooting the History Channel Series

Two Major Bermuda Triangle Underwater Wreck Sites Discovered While Shooting the History Channel Series “History’s Greatest Mysteries: Expedition Bermuda Triangle” Premiering Tuesday, September 7 at 8PM ET/PT
Marine biologist and lead diver Mike Barnette and his team discovered a plane wreck that was positively identified as a WWII TBM Avenger plane by former Navy pilot and WWll craft expert Roy Stafford.
[via press release from History]

WHAT: While filming “Expedition Bermuda Triangle,” produced by Lone Wolf Media for The HISTORY Channel, two major discoveries were made in the waters off the coast of Florida in the infamous area known as the Bermuda Triangle.

Marine biologist and lead diver Mike Barnette and his team discovered a plane wreck that was positively identified as a WWII TBM Avenger plane by former Navy pilot and WWll craft expert Roy Stafford. This plane looks to be an identical match to the missing squadron of five planes referred to as the legendary ‘Flight 19’ (prominently featured in Spielberg’s ‘Close Encounters of the Third Kind’) which took off from Ft. Lauderdale back on December 5, 1945 with 14 men on board and was never seen or heard from again. After the discovery, Mike presented his findings at the Washington Naval Yard, as chronicled in the episode, and while additional investigation is still needed to determine if there are any identifiable markings to 100% match the wreckage to one of the planes from ‘Flight 19,’ the possibility remains open.

In addition, Mike and his team also located the shipwreck remains of what they believe to be The Sandra, a famous cargo ship that vanished without a trace on April 5, 1950 in the Bermuda Triangle 71 years ago with a 12-men crew on board. The identification was based on lab tests of cargo samples taken from the wreck site as well as a combination of Lloyd’s of London records, various documentation of the ship records of transfer and ownership, and ultimately locating the ship’s original design and drawings at the Mystic Seaport Museum. The Sandra is one of the featured disappearances in Charles Berlitz seminal best-selling 1974 book The Bermuda Triangle and is among the ships frequently mentioned when the ‘mystery’ of the Bermuda Triangle’ is invoked.

“History’s Greatest Mysteries: Expedition Bermuda Triangle” chronicles a team of renowned explorers as they make startling new discoveries in the depths of the Bermuda Triangle. This enigmatic, deadly stretch of ocean has long had a reputation for mysterious disappearances, UFO sightings, and bizarre phenomena. Over the years many have sought to reveal the Triangle’s deadly secrets but now — a true game changer – three groups of investigators join forces for the biggest search for ‘Flight 19’ yet, the squadron of US Navy aircrafts that vanished in December 1945. Along the way, the team will uncover long lost ships, reveal new secrets hidden in archives, and uncover a series of unsettling clues to what makes these waters so dangerous. Have they finally solved the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle?

WHERE: “Expedition Bermuda Triangle” premieres on The HISTORY Channel as part of “History’s Greatest Mysteries,” hosted and narrated by Laurence Fishburne.

WHEN: Tuesday, September 7 at 8pm ET/PT

IFC/Sundance Now Acquire Comedy Good Grief, Co-Commission Second Season
IFC and Sundance Now Acquire Exclusive Rights to Season 1 of New Zealand Comedy GOOD GRIEF and Co-Commission Second Season From BSAG Productions Ltd
Series co-created and stars sisters Eve and Grace Palmer

New York, NY; August 31, 2021 – AMC Networks’ IFC and the targeted streaming service Sundance Now have acquired the exclusive U.S., Canada and U.K. premiere rights to New Zealand comedy Good Grief and have already co-commissioned a second season from Kiel McNaughton and Kerry Warkia’s Brown Sugar Apple Grunt Productions Ltd. Co-created, co-written and starring sisters Eve and Grace Palmer along with co-creator/co-writer Nick Schaedel, the six-episode comedy series is set in small New Zealand town and follows two millennial sisters with very different personalities who inherit a funeral home from their grandfather. Good Grief, Season 1 will make its U.S., Canadian and U.K. premiere on September 30 as binge release (6×15) on Sundance Now followed by its North American broadcast premiere on IFC beginning October 4. Season 2 will go into production later in 2021 in Auckland city and premiere in 2022 with 6 episodes expanded to 20 minutes each.

Unsure what to do with the funeral home – or the oddball staff that keep the place running – Ellie and Gwen Goode (Eve and Grace Palmer) are thrust into a world of embalming, emceeing, and embarrassment. Recently fired from her teaching career, Ellie starts to warm to the job, but all Gwen wants to do is go DJ in Bali. By staring death in the face every day, Ellie and Gwen begin to confront the realities of their own life, and what they want to make of it. Good Grief finds light in the darkness, weaving both the comedy and tragedy of life into a rich emotional tapestry.

Good Grief, Season 1 is directed by Kiel McNaughton (The Legend of Baron To’a, My Life is Murder), produced by Angela Cudd (I Am Waru) and Kerry Warkia (Vai, Waru). The first season’s creative team and lead cast will also return for Season 2.

Eve and Grace Palmer said, “We’re honoured to be working with AMC Networks to bring our little kiwi comedy to an international audience. They say ‘if you don’t laugh, you’ll cry’ but we hope that in watching this dark comedy about life and death, you’ll be able to do both.”

“Good Grief is a unique and quirky comedy that we’re excited to bring to audiences on both Sundance Now and IFC,” said Dan McDermott, president of original programming, AMC Networks. “After watching the first season, we were so in love with the Goode sisters that we jumped at the chance to work with Eve, Grace, Nick, Kiel and Kerry to commission further adventures with them.”

Kiel McNaughton, founding partner of Brown Sugar Apple Grunt Productions noted, “We are over the moon to be partnering with AMC Networks to bring more unique and underrepresented voices to audiences around the world. We can’t wait to get going with season 2.”

Sundance Now has a successful history of experimenting with new formats and short form series, most recently with the series State of the Union, which was renewed for a second season earlier this year. Season one, written by Nick Hornsby and directed by Stephen Frears, starred Rosamund Pike and Chris O’Dowd and swept the short form categories at the 2019 Emmy Awards, with wins as best Short Form Comedy or Drama Series and for both Pike and O’Dowd. State of the Union’s second season will match the format of the first, with 10 episodes, each 10 minutes long, and stars Brendan Gleeson, Patricia Clarkson and Esco Jouléy.
