YouTube Gaming To Host International Charity Live Event in June

New York, NY, April 30, 2021 — As part of YouTube’s ongoing commitment to support the LGBTQ+ community, YouTube today announced two global livestream events to raise money and awareness for The Trevor Project, the world’s largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ) young people. Both events will premiere during LGBTQ+ Pride month in June.

“YouTube, at its best, is a place where authentic voices can find community and share their unique stories with the world,” said Susanne Daniels, Global Head of Original Content for YouTube. “At a time when in-person events are still limited, YouTube Originals will supersize the celebration of the LGBTQ+ community by honoring its authentic voices, recognizing its unique stories, and amplifying the pride that this vibrant community has already shared with the world.”

With many physical Pride Month celebrations still on hold this year, YouTube Originals will partner with JA Films to premiere a multi-hour, star-studded livestream event celebrating the LGBTQ+ community on Friday, June 25 featuring Trixie Mattel, Daniel Howell, Kim Chi, Monét X Change, Peppermint, Denali Foxx and more names to be announced soon. The virtual celebration will take place across the globe and feature multiple hosts, musical performances, special live moments and more, with viewers encouraged to donate to The Trevor Project via YouTube’s Donate feature directly on the livestream.

To make this virtual special a community moment, JA Films has created a microsite with a Call To Action asking users and creators to submit video content sharing stories of pride, questions for the hosts and more. Select responses will then be featured throughout the stream on June 25.

A live Minecraft competition will stream exclusively on YouTube Gaming in June featuring creators from around the world with the goal of bringing awareness to mental health issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community, in addition to raising money for the Trevor Project via a donation link. More details and participating creators will be announced soon.

Both livestream events are a continuation of a long standing relationship between Google, YouTube, and The Trevor Project, including a multiyear grant from Google.org to enable the Trevor Project to introduce machine learning and natural language processing into The Trevor Project’s platforms and the creation of a new AI-powered training tool called the Crisis Contact Simulator.

Apple TV+ today announced “Schmigadoon!,” the six-episode musical comedy series executive produced by Lorne Michaels and starring Emmy Award-nominee Cecily Strong and Emmy Award-winner Keegan-Michael Key, will make its global debut on Friday, July 16. Two episodes will be available at launch followed by one episode weekly every Friday.

“Schmigadoon!,” a parody of iconic Golden Age musicals, stars Strong and Key as a couple on a backpacking trip designed to reinvigorate their relationship who discover a magical town living in a 1940s musical. They then learn that they can’t leave until they find “true love.” The first season also stars Alan Cumming, Kristin Chenoweth, Aaron Tveit, Dove Cameron, Ariana DeBose, Fred Armisen, Jaime Camil, Jane Krakowski and Ann Harada. Martin Short guest stars.

Hailing from Broadway Video and Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, “Schmigadoon!” is co-created by Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio. Cinco Paul serves as showrunner, and wrote all of the original songs for the series. Barry Sonnenfeld directs and executive produces. ‘Homemade Astronauts’ to Stream Thursday, May 13, on discovery+

(LOS ANGELES) – Although we’ve been living in the space age for over half a century, very few people have experienced space for themselves. For some, space travel is the ultimate mission – exploring our universe beyond the Earth’s atmosphere to discover the unknown. HOMEMADE ASTRONAUTS streaming Thursday, May 13, on discovery+, will document three self-financed teams who dream of becoming some of the first private citizens to launch themselves into space.

Each year, civilians from across the country and around the world set out on their own backyard space race – using nothing but grit, determination and self-taught skills to create their own home-built rockets and spacesuits. HOMEMADE ASTRONAUTS follows the journey of three groups of dreamers who pave their own paths, each with a different approach to space travel.

The four-episode series, filmed over the course of two and a half years, documents the rarely seen world of home-made space travelers and the extreme lengths these teams take to reach their goals.

These pursuits of big dreams come with big risks. And no one took bigger risks or had bigger dreams than lifelong daredevil Mike “Mad Mike” Hughes. He and his build partner Waldo Stakes set out with the ultimate goal of propelling Mike 62 miles above the earth, all the way to the Karman line, the border between Earth’s atmosphere and outer space. Their plan is to raise enough money to build a “Rockoon” – part rocket, part balloon – as a cost-effective way to make the journey.

Cameras document their progress as Mike first makes three bold attempts to reach up to one mile above the earth in a steam-powered rocket. His goal: to garner publicity and fundraising for his rockoon. In March 2018, Mike launched himself nearly 1,875 feet into the air in the Mojave Desert. On the heels of this successful launch and landing, Mike tweaked his design and aimed for a full mile above ground in February of 2020.

In taking this big step towards his ultimate dream of reaching 62 miles above the earth, Mike met a tragic end when his launch did not go as planned. Sending shockwaves throughout the rocket-building community and all who knew and loved him, Mike’s friends and supporters gathered in July of 2020 in tribute to the man who pursued his dream, and paid the ultimate price.

Separately, in Minnesota, the real-life “Rocketman,” Ky Michaelson, is the first civilian to build and launch an unmanned rocket into space. He’s working together with his son, Buddy, and entrepreneur Kurt Anderson – “The Rocketboys” – to take his skills to new heights. Ky hopes to become the first amateur to build and launch a fuel-powered, manned space rocket. Along the way, Ky and the Rocketboys build a rocket sled, in which Kurt attempts to break the land/ice speed world record.

Finally, in Oregon, anthropology professor Cameron Smith takes matters into his own hands to pursue his dream of space flight, after finding out years ago that his vision did not meet NASA standards. Now, he is creating a spacesuit that can withstand all the elements of space travel, with the ultimate goal of taking himself to the Armstrong line, 60,000 feet above ground. Using supplies as unexpected as a crockpot, he crafts a space-worthy suit that he tests on himself for safety on an airplane flight. With that success, Cameron designs a specialized hot air balloon, and comes up with an ingenious plan to float himself to the highest height.

New York [April 30, 2021] Thirty-two million people tuned-in to the latest season of Home Town, the wildly popular HGTV series featuring home renovation experts – and stars of a recent People magazine cover story – Ben and Erin Napier. The season, which wrapped on Sunday, April 25, at 8 p.m. ET/PT, delivered its highest-ever ratings among several key demos, averaging a .85 live plus three day rating among P25-54 and a 1.08 L3 rating among W25-54. It also landed a .61 L3 rating among M25-54 and a 1.16 L3 rating among P2+. Among upscale viewers, the season averaged a 0.96 rating among upscale P25-54 and a 1.20 rating among upscale W25-54. Their new six part event series, Home Town Takeover, premieres Sunday, May 2, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on HGTV and the first two episodes will be available to stream the same day on discovery+. Netflix, the world’s leading streaming entertainment service, will stream Taiwanese drama series, More Than Blue 《比悲傷更悲傷的故事》.

The series is directed by Director Pei-Ju Hsieh 謝沛如, who previously directed Heavy Craving《大餓》, and produced by Good Movie Co. Ltd, mm2 Entertainment Taiwan and Medialink Holdings Ltd. Rita Chuang 莊淳淳, General Manager and Producer of Good Movie Co. Ltd, was the original producer of the More than Blue movie.

The 10-episode romantic series tells the story of star-crossed lovers, Chang Che-Kai (Fandy Fan 范少勳) and Sung Yuan-Yuan (Gingle Wang 王淨) in their student days and is a follow-on from the story of the 2018 box-office-breaking Taiwanese film of the same name. The 2018 film was an adaptation of a 2009 Korean romantic movie.

Dom tells the story of Pedro, a handsome boy from Rio de Janeiro’s middle class who is introduced to cocaine in his teen years, putting him on the path to becoming the leader of a criminal gang that dominated the tabloids in Rio in the early 2000s: Pedro Dom. Shifting between action, adventure and drama, Dom also follows Pedro’s father Victor Dantas, who as a teenager, makes a discovery at the bottom of the sea, reports it to the authorities and ends up joining the police intelligence service. The series shows the journey of father and son living opposite lives, often mirroring and complementing each other, while both confront situations which blur the lines between right and wrong.
